I don't think I'll make it out of my group in any way, shape or form.
But my method of learning maps is to play against the comp a few times just to know the map, figure out what sort of build I want to try, and then play against people.

P-wars on BGH are completely different from PvP on normal maps.

Trozz speaking about technical details. I see you uploaded videos on youtube, but they has fucked deinterlacing for 640x480 H.264. You may try to upscale videos (double resolution) to fix it. There are some tools for that, but easiest way is to use mca64Launcher (videos will have resolution 1280x xxx, height is from ratio)

I think I could literally beat flash if he started the game by lifting off his cc and moving it to another expansion and I did a fast nexus build onto the same expansion. If you do a 1 base build where you take your gas normally, you still have a hard time pressuring a fast expanding p. As zerg, same thing, you're playing normally while terran is taking a huge delay to his builds.
tvt I guess at the very least you could get some earlier tech that would genuinely be beneficial but even then I'm quite certain the economical disadvantage you'd be putting yourself at would be far worse for you.

If this were true, I don't think any progamer would have ever attempted a 14 CC build, which puts you behind in terms of early defenses by way more than 30 seconds. And I was not suggesting playing off of one base. If you lift off, you either have to fend off an early attack, or the opponent fast expands in response, which gives you time to also expand to the 2-geyser natural above the ramp. I feel that the gas-rich expansion + the two geyser expansion is way better than the regular main + the gas-rich expansion, despite the 30 second delay.

That being said, I only have misu de chaud as an observer map - meaning it can't be played in melee mode, meaning that we're going to start with peons of all the different races. But we can pledge to only use 1 race.

And it's not really close at all, I think I'd be at 8 peons when you start building your 5th. Uhm, I think there may have been a big misunderstanding. I was talking about lifting off to the expansion that has one geyser with 6000 gas and 6 patches of 1500 minerals (the one that's on lower ground), and later expanding to the natural that has two geysers and four patches. The spot that I'm talking about really is quite close by air.
I'm not sure I can get the launcher to work on Linux. I tried it a few years back but there were problems. Maybe it's fixed now, not sure. I have stuff to do as well, but I wouldn't mind doing this some other time.

Yes, I considered that too, but there are low minerals there. Then you're on an island with low resources while the opponent has the map. Still, might be worth doing it once for the shock factor.
So I checked the rep and I had 10 workers when you had 5. I think you might just straight up die to a 9 pool. In TvT you might have a small window where you can get a vulture early enough to do damage but only by sacrificing a ton of econ so that vulture better kill everything.

Hmm, 10 vs. 5 does sound like a big difference. But I think doing this in TvZ was kind of pointless, since gas is an issue for the Zerg, not the Terran. Obviously a 9 pool or any other early attack would kill this. It's a (gas-)greedy build that only stands a chance if it's unexpected.

Three games were played, and I lost all of them. Kau and Drone remain unconvinced that this is viable. As for me, I feel that it was mostly because I suck, and that a good Terran player would be able to overcome the initial setback and get an advantage in the long run. But we'll never know, unless a good Terran tries it.
looking at replay from game 1, you start your 5th peon when I start my 8th. your first minerals were returned after 45 seconds. after 4 minutes, you do have a factory 75% complete while mine is just starting, but I have 2 cc, 23 vs 15 scvs, 2 gas vs 1 available to me.. I see that your build order wasn't perfect (but honestly, it was enabled by the map being weird and giving you 1 extra probe and drone - not having to build depot before rax is for you very beneficial) but neither was mine. I guess I could see flash beating me even if he did this but he would also be giving me one golden opportunity to beat him.
Mmm, you're quite right that the two extra supply greatly work in my favor. With 6 mineral patches, I only need about 12 workers to be saturated on gas and minerals, so I can go without a supply depot for a long time. I think my main problem was that I could not use the early tech advantage to secure the natural with two geysers.
Ideally, the build should go like this: -barracks, assimilator, factory, supply depot; -make Vultures from one fact and harass or at least contain below the opponent's ramp; -when the money piles up, send the probe to build a Nexus while making more SCVs for transfer; -pylon, forge, cannons to defend against air / cloaked units while you get siege tanks.
Now there's a build that seems worthy of a Gem League . Not sure how this would work out timing-wise, but the supply depot after factory would give you the first vulture VERY early, much faster than I had it in our games.
I would like to watch those mizu de chaud games :-)
If I could play this game I'd go for a wall-in into a fast natural, then transfer all SCV to natural (and perhaps some distance mining to optimize) while the main CC floats into the corner expansion. Could it work?
Oh yeah, my games vs Kau were the first I played. I had thought that you needed and Ovie to scout the minerals to get the pocket expansion on Mizu. All my other games, I took it straight away after I was told a worker can spot it just fine.

It wasn't BM. I disc'ed in set 2. I had a pretty large advantage, but I was also the one who disc'ed so we naturally agreed on a rematch. The VOD is the rematch. Chat at the beginning of the game is me I arguing about my advantage that's all. I wouldn't BM in Gem League. I think I even said gg after your sunken rush even though I was really mad in front of my computer. <3
Great games. Too bad Bakuryu didn't use the two workers for anything except the extra supply; he didn't even make assimilators instead of extractors. Then again he didn't really need to. (Also Sayle... -_- It's not "bm" if your opponent makes a hatchery, it's bm that you didn't! -_-)
Regarding the pathing problems on Mizu de Chaud: The pathing from one mineral patch at the top main is really bad, and I'm not sure if the bottom main has a similar thing. If someone updates this map to fix the top natural's extractor, this might be worth having a look at as well.
This tournament needs to be resumed. It's hands down the most amazing BW tournament ever! It's hard to believe that it's impossible to organize at least two gem leagues per year. You guys need to step it up!

To clarify, does this mean that round of 4 folks got there by default (by way of "event-horizoned" guys getting forfeited)? Also, presumably games from round of 4 still exists somewhere. Are these going to be broadcast? I am just asking because more gem league is better. TrozzJolt casts are the best!

By the way, Trozz, Sir Jolt: there appears to be a shortage of commentators for TLCs. You guys should totally get in on the action! As a bonus, this would give you access to a platform where you could promote Gem League 4. This way, it may well become the mostest, bestest, most-oh-my-goddest league ever!
GemLeague has his own chance to rise as BJ Sonic Starleague and get his own recognition. The main problem for now is some maps are SUCKING really hard so even 10 year old boy won't be willing to play on them. I admire your choice of maps but next time please try to at least choose maps with normal mineral and gas distance.

As long as it meets with some common rules as: proper resource placement, no glitching, normal path to scout and normal spawn locations (Imagine to find your opponent on f.e. Killing Fields without nightmare). Baekmogoji seems fine but I'm not fan of double geysers because it affects balance, it's more SC2 thing. In other hand if you have your favorite maps which include some of problems above you can try to fix them with editor, its small work. Even Blood Bath seems legit but there are ton of versions of it. F.e. this fan made 2.23 ver. seems much more fitting compared to default Blizz edition but I don't mind adding 2nd gas for each base because it's uniqueness is where you need to hold to your corner.
