Frankly, you can do what you want, it really depends on what you prefer, fair play or win by using rules.

The way the games work out in this league ensure that every game is important, not just the last games played. A word of advice, simply to avoid that type of situation, every player on each team should be playing out their games as if was indeed the decider match.
