Q:Congrats on getting to the finals, how do you feel about it?
A:Thank you, I feel pretty good about it since I've heard a lot of talk about BaBo , Dewski and Shuruken (maybe others) being favorites and I wanted to prove that I can be amongst them even if I don't play very often.
Q:That valkyrie play in game 2 did quite a bit of damage, but did not win you the game. Did you practice that strategy before?
A:Yes I did practiced it a bit before against my friend panix but I never really gave it some thoughts and I should have perfected it better before using it. Since I don't feel as comfortable in TvZ as I am in both TvP and TvT, I thought I should try something fancy to give me an edge but unfortunately it didn't worked.
Q:After being down 0-2 what where your toughts? where you afraid of going out of the tounament?
A:Yes I was afraid. Like I said, I'm not confident in TvZ so I wasn't so sure of what to do but I told myself to go back to the basics of TvZ and see how it goes. Fortunately for me, it did went well.
Q:In game 5 five you reacted perfectly to the 4 pool, where you expecting something like that? what where your toughts?
A: Yes I did expected something like that. I watched the replays of Dewski vs Shuruken and I saw that Shuruken was able to use many builds and that he was not afraid to cheese. After he chose Aztec as the final map and knowing that he was on a 2 games losing streak on standard games, I was 100% sure he would go for a 4 pool so that's why I've sent 2 relatively early scouts to be sure.
Q:Seems like you'll be facing obelisco, since you beat him in the group-stages do you feel you have the upper-hand going into the finals?
A:Yes I do feel I have the upper-hand but I shall not take him lightly.
Q:What was the hardest game for you in the tourney?
A:My hardest game was probably the game vs Shuruken on Sniper Ridge. I don't like the map but I thought I could use the long cliffs to my advantage while denying his expansions and fortunately, it worked well but I had to constantly be aware of his movements so I don't get off guard by some sneaky lurkers. TvZ is the only matchup where I don't feel I have an advantage going into late game so that's another reason.
Q:Congrats on getting to the finals, how do you feel about it?
A: Thank you, i feel pretty good after getting through Round of 8 and Round of 4 due to my PvP and also defeating Babo after our match in drlt where i lost to him.
Q: In game one your shuttle got mind controlled, however it didn' t affect your game play at all. what did you think at that time?
A: I had already scouted his templar archives and then his dark archon, so i did think he would try to mind control my shuttle, i was just not quick enough to get out with the shuttle before it got mind controlled. However, i knew my expansion was way before his, so i had an advantage in macro vs him.
Q: What was the hardest game for u going into finals and why?
A: I think it was after Babo tied the series 2-2 with me giving up an advantage of 2-0. My reaver control was not good in games 3 and 4, i was not sure what i could do to win the last game. Also, another difficult moment was in the last match of my group, where an unscouted 5 pool drone all-in got to my base; i thought i had lost for a moment.
Q: What was the reasoning behind the 3 gate push in game 5?
Babo was playing a style that relied more on overwhelming instead of a style of unit control, my bad reaver micro made me lose games 3 and 4 so if i didnt switch styles i would probably lose to the same thing. Babo also changed and the roles of games 1-4 sort of reversed in that last game.
Q: Why did you pick that map for game 5?
A: The reverse ramp in Neo Aztec as well as the 3rd being vulnerable would help me contain Babo with the 3 gate and then overwhelm him with the follow up push that came later. CB has a more defensive main and natural while EC you can take safely 3 bases.
Q: Any thoughts about your Final opponent, EssBee?
A: I think he has the upper hand in this series, nevertheless it will be a tough series for both of us.

Nothing official yet, we want to collect some info while we are proceding into the RO8 of the tournament.
Pumpkin [KDV} please send me a pm with information on if you posted in the Drtl thread or practice partner thread, 2 replays of you playing and any additional info you might wanna add.
I should also clarify: postponement is clearly not allowed, however is it allowable to pre-arrange a match and play earlier if one or both players need to and both agree.
From DRTL season 1, couldn't play season 2 due to timezone issues (5am T_T).
Also can you please use the [time] tag? It would help me out a lot.
Just incase anyone from Aus is wondering, Melbourne/Australia time, its 3:00am 13/05/2012. I will probably be organising the game one or two hours earlier if possible.
Also considering the games are on different dates anyway is it possible to have Bo3 for Ro32? I mean having the game on Sunday morning/Saturday night means I have to sacrifice a whole night anyway lol so its annoying having to do that just for one game. Would be pretty bad if people had to give up their day just to get 4 pooled once and lose
Updated OP. As of now we have 22 people signed up.

No, this will not be allowed.

Round of 32 is going to be replaced by an ODT-like group stage.

The first round will be an ODT style group format. we need all 4 players to be there at the same time.
What about the later rounds? I have a potential work assignment on the 19th that I can cancel but I would prefer to go to it and participate in the tourney if possible (if I get that far, of course). Obviously if my opponent does not agree, I will cancel the work assignment and participate. That's why I'm not removing my application btw.
The first round will be an ODT style group format. we need all 4 players to be there at the same time.
Is it possible to make it one hour earlier then? Or split the group stage so that we can play the games at pre-organised times? (Like must complete all games before X date)
I played one game in s1 for freedom and didnt play s2 even though i was in a team due to daylight saving and accidental avoidance and fun ISL qualifer rape

It will be difficult since, ODT, you don' t know exactly who you will be playing next. say for example you are in a group with sgs.gorg, fabiano and l1ghtning. You are scheduled to play fabiano, while gorg and l1ghtning play each other. If you win, you face winner of other match, and if you lose, you face loser of other match. If you win again your second mach, you pass the group. If you lose you go one your last chance to play winner of the 1 losers match.
Thus you could be facing 3 different people troughout the group.
Also you are signed up, going to update players later.

the C- players in it are people who were at D/D+ ranks during DRTL and who improved through practice and dedication. I could hardly hold a D rank 6 months ago hating TvZ the most and I managed to go undefeated TvZ in the league and improved considerably in all aspects. I think this is kind of a reward to the effort and dedication of those players.
That said, I'll not be participating for the reasons I already stated.

I can't do that. I suppose I can participate in the group stages and if I advance you can just give away my spot or give my next opponent a bye. is that cool?

It specifically says "this tournament is for participants of DRTL." I don't understand where the misunderstanding is.
You don't rly see my point. It's like after ASL there will be ASL2 for example for mostly players from ASL, but if someone did B-/B during tournament shouldn't be in 2nd tour, my opinion.
On May 05 2012 17:52 Mewka wrote: Still its other tournament and ppl which improved shouldnt be allowed in this one, but that's only my opinion and no offence
Of course you are allowed to state your opinion.
While we are at it here is mine: The two players who have C- status, have played in DRTL, and i' ve seen their recent games and i believe they have the requisits to play in this tournament. The fact that they hit C- does not mean they are consolidated C- players (no offence). And your reasults in a tournament depend on a number of things, not only your rank. Preparation, shape, maps and match-ups all come into play. Jaedong and his performance in the ODT is the perfect example for this. Futhermore, higher rank players have a tendency to get cheesed more often, since their opponent might decide thats their best chance against them.

If I go online right now and lose 1 game I will be D+ again. If I had done that before the start of the tournament, the foundation of your argument would be non-existent. Does 1 game either way really make that much of a difference?
Regardless, according to the organizer my skill level is appropriate, so that should settle everything anyways.

Sorting will take place Monday as well as map pool finalisation. Sorting into groups will be done by seeded-style, however matching the players in those groups to play will be done by blind Draw-style. what is seeded: + Show Spoiler +
A Seeded tournament is organized in a way that the players are ranked based on previous results or experience. Players will be sorted into the groups so that theoretically we will have a good balance.
A Blind Draw tournament is organized in a way the players are not ranked based on previous results or experience. The match ups are based solely on the luck of the draw.

It's a little upsetting that only 2 Z/T will come out of Group F ): Otherwise there seems to be many strong contenders for group of death... IMO C D and F will be the groups to keep an eye on. I voted C.

I don't think there is a group of death... 2 clear winners from each group aside from maybe 1 or 2 of them..
I think that predictions would be difficult at LEAST for C D and F.
For F, I agree shuruken will 2-0, then who knows either Arya or Nagasima 1-2...

I think IU can take L3gendary and that Minsc can take Prophecy/IU from having played most of these players (obviously I played them with P/T so it's a different perspective, and Minsc used to be T main). Not necessarily favored to win, but not as sure-fire as you claim.

Oh ok no problem. Usually Random is considered a race, so I was planning on just selecting RvT because all my vT MU's are basically the same, but that's cool PvT is fine.

Yes Group C is group of death hands down now. I wouldn't want to face any of the 4 people in that group. I only beat Legendary with off-beat tactics on maps like Fortress. So, in a way, I am happy that such a group exists ^^ I expect good games and of course only 2 of you make it!
so who wants to trade groups with me HUHU ??? hello .,. blah blah whoever wins my group will undoubtablly be top 4 finisher in this tournament i just got a feeling ... some the other groups are very easy tho lol but no complaints here, will be fun im only in it for strong matchups not for the money
Group B is a player short. In the event of not having someone fill it in Hyominnie takes win in game#2. And loser of Slugger vs MSJ takes win in game#4.

lol wat? That's retarded.
No, it isn't. This way the player who is preparing vs P still plays vs. P. Everyone else will have time to prep vs him being T if he passes groups. Makes sense to me.

But it isnt like the substitute knows which group he will be seeded in, so the substitute couldnt prepare for a specific race as well. Thus forcing the substitute to play off race, would be two disadvantages at once: a) not playing the main race and b) playing against a opponent which had more time to prepare for the matchup.
Imho it would be better to just let them play their main races.

No, according to that, only the first match in the group is P. If he wins/loses that, he is allowed to play T for the winners/losers match in the group stage. From the original rules for substitutes, one would assume that if you substitute someone, you play their race the entire tournament.

In an ideal world there would have been more substitutes which would ease the subbing process by allowing a player of same race to sub in. The two factors you mention are definitely disadvantages, but there is nothing that can be done to really change any of that. Too many factors resulted in this outcome: people signing up but then not being able to play, the time at which they made this announcement, the amount of subs and their race... This is the best way to solve it fairly for the people who have been practicing their specific MU already. You can't just up and say "sorry hyominnie, you're playing vT instead of vP today."

Yes. That makes sense given the group at least - all the players in that group already had to or at least should have practiced vT except for MSJ who would have probably only play vs. P. This is still the best solution available - forcing someone to play P AFTER the ODT makes no sense whatsoever because the groups' results are impossible to predict that far ahead to know who would play who at Ro16. Therefore his race has no impact on the running of the Ro16, at least. Whether it would be more fair for him to play P for the entire ODT is debatable but what you propose certainly is not (plus, do we really need more P?).

Well, I just wished the rules were slightly clearer regarding subs, because if you read it as its written now, it does sound like you play the race you substitute the entire tournament.
I spoke to Dewski yesterday and he agreed to play his first match as a protoss.
Here is my tought process behind my decision: -First, Dewski signed up before the sign-up was officially closed, over a week before the start of the tournament. He was busy with the DRTL finals (also Shuruken was but different players have different timings, maybe Dewski was concentrating 100% on finals and thats understandable). - I was hoping more people would sign-up as a substitute. -Subing him in group G (which happened to be the first group available when it was his turn on sub list), and forcing him to play protoss in his first game, IMO gives him enough of a handicap, together with him knowing his group and maps 2 day later than other people, to justify him playing out the rest of his group and tournament with his main race. - In this particulare case players got to know 3 days beforehand the change of a player in their group, and bngo gets to play his original match-up.
This is the best, wanna be fair/balanced solution i could come up with. While i understand it is impossible to make everybody happy, decisions have to be made and i stand by my decision. Time will tell if it was a correct decision or not.
I am sorry rules are not 100% clear. I have been fixing this along as it comes, to try and provide players with a fun tournament where matches are played-out, trying also to avoid surprises for players.
Any furthur subs will be revised case-by-case, aldo with the Tournament being round the corner, people who are subing in now will have to play the race they are subbing in for, at least trough-out the group-stage, if not trough-out the whole tournament. Even so, they will still be for sure some walk-overs.
sGs.Puyi here. I have volunteered to help out pebble with the DRIT by helping him organize the reps and organize and rename them into spoiler free folders for him and any other caster/viewers that wish to download the rep and watch.
To make things easier: 1. Only winners need to send in the replay. If you win, it becomes your responsibility. Send it to DRITOURNAMENT@yahoo.com as soon as possible. 2. When emailing the rep, put your group letter (eg. Group A) as the subject.
@pebble444 Instead of me organizing half and you organizing half, I think I can handle all 8 groups. It shouldn't be too hard.

Well if having reached C- disqualifies you from the tournament I'll forfeit. But atm im high D+ and only achieved C- by virtue of playing a lot of games and from the fact that wins net you more points than loses. I've beaten 1 or 2 C- players and lost around 20 games against them.

if the case of some of the people leaving groups we can merge the 2 smaller groups that had people leave it and with the extras we will use as subs as for i assume that the likely hood of all of us showing up is slim im just guessing also what time does this thing start tomorrow????

I'm confused. It's 8:42 EST right now, so 12:00 EST is in 3 hours. However it is 21:42 KST (according to TL), so 2:00 KST is in 4 hours?
Your post says 21:14 KST and you say +5 hours so... I'm going to guess it's the latter (2:00 KST according to TL) but I suggest you look into using the [.time] function because I had thought that this tournament started at noon all this time and made plans accordingly.
EDIT: Okay, it's all due to daylight savings, I see. Right now I'm in EDT timezone instead of EST. Sorry about that.
uhm right now here it is 14:46 CEST here. so there' s a 7 hour difference i guess. So its 12:00 EST i believe. 19:00 CEST.
17:00 GMT (+00:00)
Edit: i tought so too that it started at noon EST. This daylight savings rellay messes timezones up Edit2: 7 hours difference i guess in the summer (northern hemisphere), 6 hours in winter(northern hemisphere).

There was that too for a couple weeks, but after, Nikon shifted it by an hour for DRTL afterwards. Maybe it was still different for some other time zones.
The TL time tag feature takes in consideration the timezones with daylight saving, so just refer to that time it will be the correct one for your timezone.

Btw group D played game 4 on fs, aldo it was supposed to be on CB.Just saying.
I believe that with some training and proper precautions (especially towards cheese builds), BaBo has a very solid shot at taking this tournament. When in form and vs BaBo in a series, be prepared to be mind fucked. Perhaps even 1a2a3a macro stomp roll a Terran while recalling armies left and right. Or some flashy micro. And many more.
If no games are played from now till tomorrow at round of 16 time i will advance sgs.CTIA A1, UED_themarine A2
Uhm that doesnt make sense because its cause of sGs.Ctia absence we were not able to play rest of games in group A. Following that logic sgs.Ctia can just not show at all tommorow and advance as A1 ...
I will be on tommorow since 12 CEST to 19 CEST all the time waiting for looser of + Show Spoiler +

to play me .. adding u to friends so whenever ure on ill whisper u , hope we will be able to play games to decide whos advancing and whos not, not some dirty tricks !

Thanks! Appreciate the confirmation ^^ No offense to anyone but I feel like the left side of the bracket is very stacked with very strong players, gonna be tough in the Ro8 and onwards no doubt! I'm glad to see the favorites from either side advance though, I think this finals will be great no matter who ends up there.

Mirror matches for map stats not counted. Individual stats i took what i could find together from the DRTL plus the tournament. Edit: corrected some stats.
Hmm I'm sure I won more games in DRTL S1 + S2 + DRIT than this but it's not important ^^
Anyways, I have to request a 1 hour PP on my match tomorrow with Massssssss tomorrow. i will be getting back from work no earlier than 1:30 (and matches usually start at 1 for me). I will send a PM to Massssssss and pebble to double check.

excellent polls.. As usual matches start at 17:00 GMT (+00:00) and casting starts at 19:00 GMT (+00:00) (with co-caster AtomicArchon) tune in to watch some RO8 action!
Still missing a Caster for Babo vs masss and Dewski vs shuruken... if nothing comes up i might just cast them myself.

I would be willing to try casting Dewski vs. Shuruken ^^
I haven't ever casted a game myself before but me and Probe used to talk about games while watching them all the time, and I've seen many casts, I'll do my best!
The cast of Dewski vs. Shuruken will probably be tomorrow due to my shitty microphone, time TBA. Will also probably be casted by both myself and pebble ^^
EDIT: Just watched the recording, sorry for ruining your streaming with this super quiet shit ): It's weird, I can hear myself through the skype phone service and everything... ;-;
Oh I figured out why my mic was off I think -_-; My headphone jack is screwed up and I have to keep headphones half-plugged so it causes static... Shouldn't be a problem in the future I just won't use the headphones... Sorry to everyone again ;-;
The worst choppiness seems to come during unit actions (watch the last 2 minutes of the cast, before and after the gg) ... Maybe I need to alter my sound quality? Any suggestions on this would be great as well.
EDIT: If anyone has any feed back on the content of my cast I would greatly appreciate it ^^ (those of you that can sit through it xD)

For the third place series, A first map was never decided for the first match, so i' ll let you two pick it together. If you don' t manage to find an agreement we will just randomized a map from the map pool (in that case i hope my sorting abilities will not be as bad as Jangbi' s). Next tournament will be a bit more spread out, we will be keeping the current format with a few variations. Map pool will be decided again from a poll. (Fs will be already in map pool and i' ll be dropping jade as mandatory) Going to post the thread after Final is over.

The lower game level is the games are more interesting? Or what? Its paradoxically.
Very strange things happen on tl.net...
Majority of the starcraft broodwar fans are D/D+ ranks player so that accounts a lot of us lower gamers who are not top tier like isl3 and gc3 level of players . It's nothing to do with being paradoxical some times it's good for us newbies to play some tournament in our league . Also what else to talk about isl3 or gc3 ? besides it being a place for top tier bw foreigners I don't see a problem at us d rank getting some activities for our own league .

There are more people for whom this topic is/was directly relevant (as Sawamura ninja'd me to explain), and a lot of the posts in here are made by the same people, giving an inflated page count. I've made at least a page if not more of posts in this thread by myself.

Just to make it clear.
If you do "enter gg enter f10 e s q" really fast (like 200+ apm) it often doesn't show ^^ No worries.

Enter gg enter alt+qq so much faster.
I avoid alt + qq like the plague because I am too used to it force quitting programs/games that I played back in the 90's =_=
Also f10 esq gives a sick pattern that my fingers like to do a bit too much... =) / =(
EDIT: Some notes on G1 to help you in the future perhaps: Z taking third at a second nat on FS is standard because then you can easily secure 4 and then 5 gas with that third you kept from before. Defending the second nat vs a FE build is not hard and after that it's hard for toss to break it due to sunk spore lurker.
Sair always should scout the Z base first to see the tech, the overlords that are farther away will die anyways as they return to the main if there is no spire, so why not hunt the ones in his main AND see the tech? Also, sair/dt is outdated and rarely works nowadays as most zergs get dra/overlord or spore/sunk or a combination of the above at each base. Storm is usually upgraded as soon as templar archives come up and 2 ht usually made right away at least as well. DT wasn't dead, just hiding and they ARE hard to ses xD
Cannon wall-off is standard in pvz at expansions because well they're cannons they kill shit, stall units, and allow templar to storm the units attacking the cannons... Hydra have to shoot up, lings need swarm, and ultra can't runby, seems pretty win to me?
Almost no one makes zealots to break lurk contains, hence the goons that you asked about... 1 storm + 1 goon shot = dead lurker.
I felt like your game sounds were a bit loud and the lack of music was a little noticeable but not necessarily bad. I suggest you lower the volume a little because you have great action casting but it gets drowned out by hydra deaths :p
As you noted it was Bo5 not Bo3 so you should have as many reps as Bo# but I think you know that xD
Game 3: It was overpool as the overlord finished right before pool placed.
Overall: Judging by your name you are an SC2 guy, so I want to thank you especially for trying out BW casting and I hope you enjoyed it and I hope I helped! Keep it up!

Wow... Thank you so much for this
There's still so much for me to learn! But now I'm going fulltime casting/playing sc2 and bw so hopefully everything should improve with time. I have had the game sounds problem every time, mainly because I regulate my own sound through the external sound card, and I can't really listen to it like everyone would :S
Thank you very much for the analytical help, I'll make sure to remember all of this. I'm reeeeeeaally outdated since I played bw like 5 years ago I shall learn all the races and watch recent progames to see what is up with the metagame.
Edit: format and sorry interview was sent to reclusive first
Obelisco's net crashed on game 6 but I had a huge advantage and it was nice from him to give me the game. Good sportmanship by obelisco and a really awesome tournament by pebble!
