Tenshi, the head organizator of iCCup Nation Wars, had to leave the staff due to real life issues. We are aware of the fact, that there are still questions left open and that there is still a lot of confusion how the system works. The staff will try to substitute Tenshi's position as soon as possible and work on fixes/better communication for the upcoming weeks. Keep in mind, that this is only the beta phase of nation wars.
Also, please do use the National Tournaments Forum for questions, reports, complaints and such from now on. We can not edit the OP here, and we will not read this thread every day. It's easier for us to communicate and organize this event at www.iccup.com.
Official updates (rules, modus, w.o., streams, replays, results, scoring, etc) will be posted in our forum and in our news in the next one or two days. We will do our best to keep this event running as smooth as possible. If there are urgent requests, please write a PM to iCCup.Paladin.
We're sorry for the inconvenience.
Looks like the wait is finally over, here we go folks… iCCup presents: iCCup Nation Wars (iNW)!
Will it remain true that Korea will topple everyone in the foreign scene? Or will we have another country be crowned as SC:BW’s prestigious #1? iCCup Nation Wars is an event that gives players of the same nationality a chance to ally together and compete against rivals from a different country! Which country will be the lasting BroodWar super power? We will find out as the season inches closer and closer to its final hours… Will it be Korea tearing down the world with ease? Will the United States unleash its fury upon the world? Will the mysterious Hungarians step up and take gold? Will China finally emerge from its slumber? Or will the Russian bear make use of other nations as its claw sharpener? If anything, for sure…Expect the Unexpected…
Schedule and Team Players are allowed to register to participate in iNW at any given time in the season. When team leaders are elected and organized their teams, it’s very important that leaders designate a CW coordinator for their team. It is the responsibility of these CW coordinators to send me a schedule with times when their team will most likely be available to participate for CW throughout each week. Specific iNW admins will pair teams with similar times for CW; the wars will be a custom format explained later. Top 8 teams at the end of the season will enter a playoff round, where they will glory, fame and the title of SC:BW International Champion!
By June 22nd – Final nominations for leaders By June 27th – Vote for leaders By July 4th – Organize teams (Preparation period over) July 5th – August 10th – CW/Qualifier Period August 13th – Ro8 Playoffs August 20th – Ro4 Playoffs August 27th – Season Playoff
Do you want to participate? It’s easy, just follow the procedures below! 1) Follow the exact format to create an account ID: [Creation] Bracketed 2 letters of iCCup flag. (ie. [US]Tenshi, [CA]Tenshi, [CN]Tenshi, [PL]Tenshi etc.) Players are to register under the nationality of their official documents (ie. Their passport, license, etc.). Players no longer in a team will have their account locked (we don’t want random people not representing their country roaming the server). 2) Find your team page and join: + Show Spoiler +
Note: This list contains the top 40 countries from iCCup ladder last season, if your country is not in this list and want to participate, send a PM to iCCup.Tenshi on iccup. 3) Once you’re done, you need to send me a PM (via iccup.com to iCCup.Tenshi) with your known AKA’s, rank, country. I will keep this information in a formal list. This is important!
All participants must adhere to the following regulations: In addition to our current ladder/tournament rules, players are forbidden to: 1) Be in more than 1 iNW team 2) Use more than 1 iNW account (No smurfs) 3) Share accounts (Be it 1v1 or 2v2) The iNW admin team will be doing regular account checks for cases of shared accounts, caught in violation will result in immediate clearstats and account lock. If your account is locked, you’ll have to PM me for account unlock. Depending on your reason and sincerity, I might consider giving you another chance, but don’t bet on it. Your respective clan accounts are perfectly safe and fine to ladder on, we only require you to limit yourself to ONE iNW- account (also perfectly fine and safe to ladder on).
All team leaders must be aware of the following: As a leader, it is your responsibility to build a stable and efficient team. Therefore it will also be your responsibility to choose officers each designated with a specific role. + Show Spoiler +
Team Officers: 1) Team leader – in charge of settling disputes between officers and/or members 2) CW Coordinator – in charge of arranging CW’s with other CW Coordinators. 3) Advertiser – Spreads teams popularity/interest in hoping to attract more people to participate. 4) 2 Recruiters – Recruits potential players.
Teams are limited to a maximum of 35 players including officers.
Format and Other Rules Regarding CW Teams are limited to playing only 3 CWs a week against other iNW-teams. CW Scheduling will be handed to iNW admins; team CW coordinators are responsible for submitting a series of optimal times for CW.
Set1: Player 1 <map> Player 2 Set2: Player 3 <map> Player 4 Set3: Player 5+6 <map> Player 7+8 Set4: Player 9 <map> Player 10 ACE: Player 11 <map> Player 12
There will be NO postponed matches iNW teams are forbidden to challenge non-iNW teams (avoid country/team conflict)
Team Leader Selection Players are to vote for their own countries team leaders only. It will be separated into 2 phases; a nomination phase and a voting phase. Players have until June 22nd to nominate their leaders. Send a PM to iNW- on iccup.com with the name of your desired candidate in the description. Top 5 candidates will be announced and vote for your desired leader through the same process. Team leaders will be decided on the 27th.
Miscellaneous Announcements http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/community/140-national_tournaments.html This will be the official forum for iNW related announcements/issues until further notice. Teams are free to use it as they see fit. No BM/flame will be tolerated. If you wish to make an argument or opinion, be civil about it.
Streams Our iCCup streaming team will be casting 1 or 2 ‘highlight wars’ on a weekly basis (most likely on Sunday). Exact time has yet to be decided.

Unfortunately yes, the designated iNW tag is official. Sorry =[
you make an accout called [UK]Poetic and join the icc team, then I think you can only ladder on your Poetic[AoV] or [UK]Poetic account's. At least that's what I gathered.
On June 20 2011 09:07 Poetic[AoV] wrote: My main account is Poetic[AoV], but obviously this account is on the [AoV] team. How could I be a part of the UK team without smurfing?
I apologize if I didn't make this clear in the OP. Players are not allowed to have more than one iNW- account. So you can create another account [UK]Poetic and be perfectly fine. But you cannot create another [UK] account or an account of a different country than your own.

You're safe to ladder on both accounts. But please do not to create a 2nd iNW account. Once again, I apologize if I didn't make it clear

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to say no to that... We're trying our best to keep iNW from conflicting against team/country related issues. Hope you understand =[
On June 20 2011 09:58 dRaW wrote: So would you make someone like scan or dayfly leaders of team korea since they can translate for clanwar matches?
Scan doesn't live in Korea.
He has korean citizenship and he can translate/organize for the korean team, also looking @ American candidates, I assume neither of those will select the current best american player; Scan. So, we might as well use him somewhere.
do we really have to go through such a voting contest if a country can just organize itself? Or is it for those who have multiple people who want to do it or there is controversy, etc.
On June 20 2011 10:42 LML wrote: do we really have to go through such a voting contest if a country can just organize itself? Or is it for those who have multiple people who want to do it or there is controversy, etc.
I am also concerned about this I think some countries could organize themselves without a problem
If countries can unanimously decide on a leader, then message me and this entire voting process will be over with. Send me a PM with the leader's name. The nomination/voting is mainly for countries with two or more people wanting to become a leader so there arguments can be limited.
I honestly vote for nOoNe to be the United States leader and myself the co-leader, as I have a lot of projects on my hands and can easily help nOoNe out with anything he needs managerially. Furthermore, he is a very good administrator. Not to mention, nOoNe would (from what I assume) love an opportunity like this. Justin, correct me if I'm wrong.
Hmmm, there should be at least 8 good teams, I can see USA, Canada, Hungary, Germany, Korea, Russia, Peru and Chile for sure. I guess Ukraine still has a few great players even if White-Ra and Strelok are gone. Definitely sounds nice. Thanks for organizing.
edit : How could I have forgot about Poland, they are great too.
I really need a potential Russian, Polish, Hungarian leader right now who could spread the news about iNW- to their respective countries. If anyone knows a potential candidate or feel like they want to give leader position a shot, shoot me a PM ;/

Keep in mind that teams will have 2-3 CWs per week
Tbh I doubt that alot of teams will be playing 2-3 CWs per week. Except maybe the first 2 weeks, 1 CW per week sounds like a reasonable goal for most countries. Unless I underestimate the impact of nation wars ofcourse.
On June 21 2011 05:48 krndandaman wrote: once we're signed up and on the team page, can we start laddering?
Don't forget to send me the necessary information. and yep!
So then how does the leader choose the A and B teams. Does he kick those who are not on the team?
Nation Wars was previously designed to have A/B teams, but due to the rising opinion of having leaders format their own teams, we removed the A/B format and will allow leaders to form their teams at their own discretion. The names haven't been edited yet, but all A-teams are the official teams participating in iNW. It's up to the leaders (and/or their officers) to decide who will be in the team and who are not qualified, provided as long as they don't exceed the maximum limit of players (35) per team

So I assume leadership will be transferred to whoever is leader once elected. Then leaders get to choose who is in and who is out. Sounds awesome.
On June 21 2011 08:04 krndandaman wrote: anyone have any guesses on what the rank cut off will be for the A team? C/C+ perhaps?
I assume it'll be up to each nation. As for example Canada has a ton of B and A players. While Denmark might have fewer. so they will have to delve into the lower ranks for their a team.
On June 21 2011 13:48 Shiro)Tenshi wrote: Well...we don't really have to cast the games lives... Casting replays is always another option
Casters will be fine however, if I want my top player to play in the ACE match I have to put him out in Game 4 or else he'll probably afk. This presents a problem being as there is no guarantee in 4set getting played. Its really not ideal. First player already has to wait around 3 matches before ACE, you want to get him to wait for 9 matches? What if one ends up like TerrOR vs Bakuryu, hour long game... Bo3 just doesn't work for SPL style.
I have plenty more to say, but I think its pretty self explanatory why Bo3 doesn't work here. If you think otherwise and wish that I elaborate more on reasons why it doesn't work then just post below.
What if you have dual passports for two countries? Are you able to apply for position as manager for those two countries in case you don't get voted in on the other one?
to add 1 more reason- I like BO1 better because then some people like me can cheese and it gives the worst player like me chance to win vs the best player
Tenshi, I think you should think about this Bo1/Bo3 issue again. I find myself agreeing with many arguments contra Bo3 ... we want this to be a fast, action-packed event, after all. Maybe increase the number of permitted Wars to 4 per week, to equalize? Give the matter some more thought, please.
I like Sayle's idea about having the first four matches played Bo1, and making the Ace Match a Bo3; sounds like a nice compromise to me.
We are planning to have the remainder of the ongoing iCCup Season 17 as a 'test phase' ... that will give us the opportunity to work out small glitches (which are sure to show up) and find the best Modus/Rules/etc for the event.
Personally I find myself agreeing with all Bo1's. I concur with Michael(OD)'s opinion. Bo1's give a chance for relatively worse players to beat players of higher caliber. I'm not sure if ACE Bo3 is a good idea either...simply because the skill variance in the community is just way too big. ie. Best player in Korea can easily take on Bo3 against best player in......CA or PL or some other countries (I'm by no ways bashing; sorry if you took offense). If it's a Bo1, then some of our international players will have a chance to take the CW (once again, I'm not bashing).
I guess we're voting between between Bo1 Sets 1-5 or Bo1 Set 1-4 Bo3 ACE
if anyone from balkan area or turkey, i would love to assist you guys with the team as much as i can since i already have some past in iccup with sorting events to balkan and turkey. if there are no one i can take the control for a united balkan team since we already have very little amount of players, similar thing with SEA team
On June 21 2011 16:24 deL wrote: What if you have dual passports for two countries? Are you able to apply for position as manager for those two countries in case you don't get voted in on the other one?
Please don't do that. ;/ Players are only limited to choose to play for one country. The country you choose to play for will be left to your discretion
This is a shoutout to all Scandinavian players! If you're willing to participate in this event, can you please send me a PM or reply here? I need to get an idea if you guys can successfully form a potential team. (Denmark/Sweden/Finland/Norway/Iceland)
You may now vote for your leaders. Nominations are in the second post. Private nominations have also been sent to several countries who have difficulties regarding english communications.

Leaders have been elected. Private leadership requests have also been sent to certain countries so hopefully more can participate. I need confirmation from all leaders... Teams will have until July 4th to organize themselves

We currently have 18 likely teams participating, 12 of which are pretty much prepared for anything and another 6 still in the process of getting ready.
I'm hoping to get the opening matches of iNW played this saturday or sunday, depending on how the teams schedule themselves. If not, then official CWs will definitely start next week. For those of you interested, this week I'm hoping for (preview) matches from: Romania vs Spain United States vs Canada Poland vs Peru Kazakhstan vs Mexico Russia vs Chile
I'll most likely start arranging schedules for official iNW times, because it seems like leaving the leaders to contact each other doesn't seem to be very effective

I have to agree with you planning everything. As one team might get their perferred time and then the other team is at a disadvantage because one of their top players cannot make it.

This is typical of an Iccup event. Nothing ever succeeds at Iccup. Furthermore, the casters are always unpopular. It really seems like Gecko hijacked nation wars just like he hijacked ISL2 and tried to hijack ISL1. Also, pretty sad Gecko is acting like he runs things at Iccup when he should have been demoted permanently for abusing his admin powers by holding a grudge and banning LRM)Game multiple times when he was told not to do so. I really suspect Gecko is a Paladin-smurf because Gecko always posts for Paladin and then has people reply for Paladin. The account "Paladin" wasn't created until GeckoXP's demotion and public reputation as an abuser. I would also like to rant about the frequency of the times Iccup admins who are coincidently Teamliquid admins close threads or ban people because they don't agree on how Iccup is run. Jump on the Gecko Bandwagon folks, hold grudge more, ban community leaders like Joekim, LRM)Game, rd.Sayle. Have half the admins resign because they disagree with you, you'd have to be a Paladin(smurf Gecko) do to something like that. My point is further proven by the fact Tenshi quit leading this project, in all probability out of pent up frusturation of Iccup management.
Very well said Jumperer. It just donned on me vTv.Joekim and LRM)Game, both leaders of two of the best teams of Iccup were permanently IP Banned. LRM)Game's revelation Iccup is digging its own grave is indeed true, certainly if they continue banning leaders of the best Iccup Clan League teams. Iccup should sit down and be open minded to advice and the possibility they may be making mistakes.

Agreed. I think it's impossible even at the hands of certain incapable people for Nation Wars to fail. Too many people have vested interest and feel nostalgiac with an oldschool event like this. It's too bad that the US has been ripping people apart. Go Ooh Ess Aye!

To my knowledge, Nina's post was one of the few that isn't about NW... What thread are you reading? Also, agree with this is not www.iccup.com
P.S. Who do you think made the original schedule? (of course iccup slightly modified this to get it to overlap with every other existing non-iccup event which was already scheduled. Not only did I make it timezone friendly, but I got it to dodge all other major BW events.
@nina, try looking at yourself before pointing at others. I remember a thread of you from a couple of days ago being exactly what you tell others not to do. Why?
I think you should just post the results eventually, maybe put a spoiler, casts can still be held, VOD's can still be hosted. If someone doesn't want to know it yet, wouldn't have to read it, right.
Really you guys, REALLY? Gamma you clearly sound like an unhappy person, I reccomend reading this wonderful blog about the theraputic nature of owning a cute cat; maybe you could get more angry at it, and less angry at people who volounteer their time, effort and passion to create and support events that are hosted for people like you (assuming you /and others\ still fall under the category of "people who still like foreign Brood War").
Yes we all have differences that need working-out, but if you're gonna be detrimental to the Nation Wars movement then piss off, because I don't see you re-organizing ALL your weekends for the next 2 months to be able to stream/cast the replays on a regular basis. People only really get the right to complain when they've tried to do anything about it, so chill bro, u gotta skate.
And if there's ANY more animosity floating around here imma D-Web, Mind Control, then Recall it into this youtube video to destroy it forever: let the funk do the healin (: [timely Bootsy video owing to the fact I just saw him LIVE]
You may or may not be able to infer from my posting quality that it just turned 5AM here, 'night

Text wall >_<. You must be a virgin posting a text wall like that and having 2,500 forum posts. I'll hard counter your pitiful troll attempt with this GUIDE TO SEX WITH DOGS AND FAQ'S You obviously need it.

YOU MEANIE YOU ARE SO MEAN, YOU MADE ME CRY AND IM REPORTING YOU TO BLIZZARD FOR EMOTIONAL DISTRESS!!!
u gotta skate.
u gotta commit suicide, here I recommend you jump overboard off your boat with a cannonball like this guy did.

In all truth though you really sound lke someone who hears bout things seconhanded, doesn't play on iccup, and jumps on the bandwagon to assume Iccup leadership must be omnipotent and right.
I agree, there should be a results / table-scored page of all the NW games so we can see what's going on. For results so far, it seems like we're in the dark, I couldn't even find many of the scheduled iNW matches on iccup.com.
Finally, for everyone arguing iccup vs whoever, let's just relax cause it's not even important right now.
We just finished the updated rules, schedule and overall design. Every leader has been informed via PM - it's recommended to check them. A couple of new threads have been opened or posted again including a temporary overview of played nation wars and an interim scoring table.
Public news will be published within a few days on iccup.com's frontpage.
This will be the last post in this thread for now; from now on please use www.iccup.com as source. This thread can be closed.

I have to agree
I use team liquid as a hub to casually keep up with starcraft. the game of my youth placing it on iccup only will probably hinder your chances to gain more viewers
imo we cannot just blame the iccup admins for this, as easy as it may be. The teams and especially the team's leaders! have had responsibilities and everything was explained very clearly on how to do, and yet there were barely any teams following such easy steps as reporting your match in the according thread or some teams didn't show up at all and PM's were sent to the team leaders at the beginning of the week, so the information was delivered, besides that a news and a thread with the playdates.

Oh god, just write another faked suicide note and blame us for it if you really have to Shade. I'm kinda sick of you.
Anyhow, the season is over, as many teams didn't respond to any of the admins in the end at all. Plus, numerous of our admins have a stressful RL, too. We're trying to figure out how we can improve this and make it easier for next season. We'd be happy to hear about suggestions at iccup.com.

this tournament is going to be abandoned ?
T_T
This tournament/league is NOT going to be abandoned. As said, we're working on the communication, schedules and rules update with a high priority. The most important thing for us right now is to inform the participating teams, which will be done by the end of tomorrow.
The public news MAY be delayed for this week. If we're going to re-open a thread here or not is not yet decided, and the decision is not mine to make.
Secondly, don't make open threats to the community and give them ultimatums. + Show Spoiler +

Above quote just for the laughs. Eywa never fails to amuse me.
In addition, to make something like this thrive, you need a well-established Admin Staff as your initial foundation. Yes, National Team Leaders and Teams should be reliable and responsible but to create something like this; compassionate, fair, understanding admins are absolutely necessary.
I enjoyed the premise of all National Members joining a team and creating new accounts, yet the prior interface set-up whereas lazy gamers didn't have to switch is much preferred. Meaning: National Members don't create new accounts but are seeded onto the National Team and get special little icons.
Lastly, there needs to be motive. The iNW format started off well under Tenshi's management, the fact that everything changed under the predecessors shows the lack of experience and wisdom to handle such a feature. iNW had no prize, only pride. iCCupCL and BWCL already offer pride and bragging rights. Maybe open a new Tab for Rankings and NW History. Put some more thought into the development if you are interested in reviving a concept that many players have been exposed to (knowing what works and what doesn't work).
For all of his flaws, Joekim in his flaunting of his ill-gotten iccup A rank disguised as advice for admins may lie a point: Splitting the BW "community" apart and segregating it into isolated cantons doesn't help to motivate international effort for the Nation Wars.

Yes, I know. I still like to have the feedback on our page, so does the senior administration. Posting here often times leads to derails and random accusations, which helps nobody in the end. We will use iCCup to actually to the final organisation anyway. If a thread for the final league with info will be hosted here or elsewhere is not yet decided.
On a personal note, this will be definitely my last post in this thread, maybe on this page as a whole, as I'm tired to read over posts from persons such as Shade (Boxer(OD)), Cpt. Fatbeard + Fanboys with their only goal to throw as much dirt as possible. It's kinda getting annoying.
