Since I won't be here today (13th), someone will hopefully post results It's played as a tournament, and maps are chosen at the moment. bo3. It means each group will have 1 finalist and those 4 will compete for 3 places.
Groups!
Group A Kingdom (P, SK T1) vs Niza (Z, Curriors) JulyZerg (Z, POS) vs Lee Hun (The Cyberpark champ) Ogogo (Z, Samsung Khan) vs Ggon (R, Samsung Khan) Terato (P, SK T1) vs SaferZerg (Z, Samsung Khan)
Group B ForU (P, Suma GO) vs Anytime (P, Samsung Khan) Lee (T, POS) vs Mingu (Z, KTF) GoodFriend (T, Curriors) vs Zergman (Z, Plus) Cloud (T, KOR) vs TheWind (Z, SouL)
Group C Silver (Z, Curriors) vs Fofy (T, Hanbit Stars) Sync (T, KTF) vs Iris (T, Suma GO) Ddang (T, Suma GO) vs Chojja (Z, KTF) IntoTheRainbow (P, SK T1) vs Junwi (Z, Hanbit Stars)
Group D Xellos (T, Suma GO) vs Doggi (T, Samsung Khan) Autumn (P, KTF) vs Yellow (Z, KTF) Nada (T, Curriors) vs Gyuntae (Z, SouL) GoRush (Z, Suma GO) vs SC_Side (Z, KOR)
For Suma GO, I thought they were already GO, but Suma GO will stay as Suma GO until they find a new sponsership. The old sponsership (Suma) ended but Suma is still giving economical support to them (like team vans, uniforms and stuff).

GoGo Nada and July...and I dont see boxers name up there...is he not competeing or what?

sucks that nada and yellow are in the same group, that means only one will advance =(
|
How is Niza doing lately ? What is The Cyberpark ?
|
A: Ogogo B: TheWind C: Chojja D: Nada
|
A: JulyZerg B: GoodFriend C: Chojja D: Nada
What the hell are Nada, Xellos, Yellow doing in same group?!
|
group c is amazing.
A: July B: Friend C: Very hard, silver/sync/ddang are my favourite D: Nada
|
cyberpark is like a pc cafe chain i believe
|
Group C and B are a joke compared to the skill level of group A and Group D
I totally agree with Ub3rnob3r Nada,Xellos,Yellow Kingdom,Julyzerg;Ogogo
in one group is not so funny
my predictions : A)JulyZerg B)Goodfriend C)Sync D)Nada
3 spots : Nada,Julyzerg,GoodFriend
|
A:july B:foru C:chojja D:xellos
|
A.July B.Cloud C.Ddang 4.Nada
my predictions

kingdom thewind chojja nada
kingdom chojja nada

|
will be rep pack from this matches?
|
Kingdom GoodFriend Sync Nada
Nada, Kingdom, Sync
|
chojja nada julyzerg would be nice
|
JulyZerg GoodFriend chojja SC_Side <--- i love him
Chojja GoodFriend JulyZerG
|
Group A only has 2 really good players -> JulyZerg and Kingdom Group B I can only see GoodFriend going through (special guest star -> ForU ) Group C has Sync, Junwi and Chojja. Group D... that one is really hard -> Nada, Xellos and Yellow
I would like : A: Kingdom B: GoodFriend C: Chojja D: Yellow !!
But It will most likely be :
A: Kingdom or July, too hard to choose :p B: GoodFriend C: Sync D: Nada
|
A I prefer Kingdom Niza OgOgO B GF maybe but I like ZergMan too C hard to say I like Rainbow D NaDa no doubt
|
nooo nada and xellos in same group
|
|
Group BC go die-- T.T nada and xellos same group.
|
ForU (P, Suma GO) vs Anytime (P, Samsung Khan) Lee (T, POS) vs Mingu (Z, KTF) GoodFriend (T, Curriors) vs Zergman (Z, Plus) Cloud (T, KOR) vs TheWind (Z, SouL) Silver (Z, Curriors) vs Fofy (T, Hanbit Stars) Sync (T, KTF) vs Iris (T, Suma GO) Ddang (T, Suma GO) vs Chojja (Z, KTF) IntoTheRainbow (P, SK T1) vs Junwi (Z, Hanbit Stars)
So...atleast one of these will go to wcg. That sucks!
|
why 'atleast' Junwi Rainbow chojja Sync GF and Foru are very good players.
|
you all highly underestimate the "newcomers". Iris, Silver, Ddang, Goodfriend, Zergman and fofy could all do very well in sf
|
off topic, and i dont wanna start a new thread, but has there been a polish wcg yet? and if not does anyone know when its gonna be held?? should be soon, isn't wcg september or somthing like that/?
|
nada xellos yellow in same group. t.t
|
A ogogo, I think his zvz is better than julys B foru, I'm guessing he won't have to play pvz C chojja, I'm not sure if he will make it, but I like his style and it suits the maps D nada, just because
|
|
It's not a round-robin though, is it?
It's a SE bracket bo3 in each group right?
|

Wow, looks like total groups of death as only 1 can pass. I think we'll have a strong Korean team this year. :O
|
It's too bad the calls for the advancing players are all very similar.
Like July from Group A, Nada from group D, and so on.
Too bad there are so few superstars.
Infinity - I hope you're right about the newcomers (but I'd think they're going to be intimidated playing with the big boys).
And where's iloveoov?

yea same here, i want to see nada/xellos in SF but i'm hoping for yellow to come out of here
|
Iris terran is actually very good.
He has a good chance of winning his group if he can perform well in TvT.
|
A:Ogogo But hoping KingDom B:Goodfriend This group really sucks compared to others C:Sync But hoping IntotheRainbow This group suxxx also D:Nada But i'd hope yellow. I doubt he would get to top-3 though...
But im pretty sure at least 2 terrans are going to WCG finals this year =(. And Julyzerg isn't going, u'll c .
|
A: JulyZerg - don't know how July's ZvZ stacks up though so maybe Ogogo can pull it off
B: GoodFriend - a bit tough to predict but I think Friend has a slight advantage above everyone else
C: Sync - again many of these guys are close in skill but Sync has been looking the strongest lately; Fofy or Iris making an upset wouldn't be surprising at all however
D: Nada - the guy recently lost to Xellos though in MSL so maybe the curse is off of Xellos. Yellow has been looking strong lately too but Nada himself seems to have a newfound confidence.
|
oh my god and i suppose all the reps will be available??

Midas, Xellos and forU will advance as Safer has no chance
EDIT: Btw it is almost all SUMA GO team as SaferZerg has been in SUMA GO before.

now i'm routing for midas, forU, and Xellos to take the 3 WCG spots.

Fun to see saferzerg go through a group with july, kingdom, terato and ogogog...

the 3 matches were all pantech and curitel vs suma go and suma wins all 3 games. safer is also on a loan from suma go to samsung. so all 4 ppl on final 4 are suma go players

yeah a lotta koreans are saying they might as well take coach Gyu-nam Cho who is the head coach of the SUMA GO team.

reps?
|
Maybe the people who won really practiced on the WCG maps alot and that gave them the edge over ppl like july/kingdom/nada whom probably spend at least 1/2 their time practicing for OSL or ITV maps
|
What the hell did Ddang have for breakfast? And who is trekkerman?
|
I guess thats the same reppack that i Dled long time ago. I just thought he sucked when he lost like 5-2 to that PUSAN. Either he was pushing weakly, or doing his "ddangrush". He didint harass too much either. Anyway, I guess he has practiced-_-
|
Oh man, I didn't expect that Nada lose against XellOs, or XellOs lose against MIdas[Gm], Anyway, XellOs has to won against SaferZerg to get the third spot to WCG

Why? I don't see anyone beating ddang or xellos -.- And most likely not foru either-_-;;
|
The point is that Europe/US is ten million times stronger in vp and vt matchups than vz mus. Common sense. It's not like they won't put up a fight, it's just way more likely that "we" will be able to get a champion if they don't have a zerg representative.
|
Sweden33719 Posts
There is NO z (probably not blackman either) who's going to stand a chance in ZvT vs any of the terrans, VERY few (blackman and uh.. PJ? I dunno) will be able to standup to foru ZvP.
Not a single T will beat foru and that's a fact. What P do you think will beat xellos/ddang -.-?
TvT ... LOL
I think Z's are to be preferred since they are much weaker to cheese!
|
Some good news :D I told you guys not to underrate Ddang!
|
Looks like XellOs's curse is off for good. About time...
|
Not having these reps is killing me.
|
FA don't worry... it's been the same every year, I can tell you that at least 1 or 2 of your heroes will get raped, maybe one or two will get good spots and one of course might win the whole thing. For the ones that get raped fanboys are gonna explain that they are in a slump right now, that they wouldn't have lost if it was 2 months earlier, that it was a bad matchup, etc. etc. Then 2 months later no one will remember those losses and will sing the old song about their godliness again
|
All I'm saying is that Europe/US has so few really good zergs that it's obvious their tvp and pvt, tvt and pvp matchups are stronger than their vz matchups. I'm not saying they are pro gamer level or anything, but Euro/US players certainly stand a better chance vp and vt than vz, generally speaking.
|
no chance for european and asian(outside korea) sc players. :O

Final WCG Korea midas vs fOru
hmm... no Nada, no Yellow, no JulyZerg...
|
I doubt Foru will loose to any foreign Z's at SF if he can own korean zergs like this... His PvT is one of the best in the world or maybe best... and PvP i guess he's also good.
|
Lame...same stuff last year too
|
well the problem is that the wcg maps are kinda bad for toss. And while the only matchup i see ddang or xellos might lose vs a foreigner is tvp, I think the odds of someone pulling that off in a bo3 are nearly zero. And someone beating those guys in zvt or tvz? don't see that happen.
|
i guess it shows again that wcg ist not the most important event to korean pros once again. either the maps just favor different players than the ogn maps by design or players like nada, kingdom and july didn't train as hard on the wcg maps as ppl like ogogo and midas. or how else does it come that the ogn/mbc leagues always have totally different results from the wcg.

It is not the most important league for those progamers in Korea, but it doesn't mean that they don't prepare for it. The whole Suma GO team went to Daegu to practice only for WCG prelim. :O
Well it's pretty weird that July lost to SaferZerg, but SaferZerg had good ZvZ anyway :D

Hands off from ForU , he is cool korean toss
|
I like ForU style. It is so cool.In pvt he throws all his got with his ground units; i mean what protoss player have u seen that almost the entire game plays with ground units without the support of carriers? ForU protoss style is so awesome that in his game it is not the terran who is containing the protoss but backwards .Those who haven't seen yet his reps don't know what they're missing.

Some european players are very good to thinking the game like trek, eriador but they lack the speed of a progamer and it really shows off in the play of a long game.I think this year's wcg will be very interesting.

Garimto should've qualified and gone to SF, people would rather do a Madfrog and let him have the win than risk him losing - he might be quite nice and innocent, but he sure doesn't look that way.

Protoss have to practise some cheese strat for everygame in the leagues. It's different thing when they have to play like 10 games in a row like now. So i find it a big surprise P user got through.

I'll take a ForU rep pack (sorted into version folders at least and matchup preferably - decently named reps) and give it a home.

Excuses, excuses.
BoxeR was definetly more dominant on the Korean scene than Xellos and Midas are now. I can understand they probably will be the best players in San Francisco along with foru (that is if Xellos actually qualifies), but that doesn't mean they won't lose a single game. All this praising is making me feel pretty sick.
As for that exhibition I'm not sure which map was it (probably LT), but I do know Blackman pretty much raped Foru. I don't want to be falsely accused of spreading rumours again so Fizban might be as kind as to give you some details.
But as you see - there's no reason to think that they're unbeatable.
|
Sweden33719 Posts
Even if boxer was more dominant it doesn't change anything! His style was more prone to fuckups and the like~~~~~
Second, I didn't mean to say they wouldn't lose a single game; what I meant was I don't think anyone will beat them in a bo 3, especially with gorky and khoral in there (gorky freewin vs p khoral advantage vs z).

I don't know what the system will be in San Francisco, however I can bet with you if you want, that one of the Korean representatives will be eliminated by a foreigner. I can put money on that.

You're missing the point, 'bud'. Are you suggesting that the skill gap between foreigners and Korean progamers has drastically increased over the last 2 years ?
|
Well there are more pro teams now and they are more organized, practice a lot more, against stronger opponents, and koreans (as was seen in korea vs china) know a lot more about map strategy than foreigners, so chances are they wont be eliminated like last year. Last year was bo1 and played on LT... there is a huge difference.

Where is the replays? when will be released?

Naz very confident, wait and see I guess^^, He's all rdy defeated Xellos on TV if some1 remembers -_-
|
I have beaten both Ogogo and Xellos in tournament/tv already so it's not really about confidence concerning WCG (not getting my hopes up) I'm just diggin in the past and using it as a reference

man, i am loving this new tomson.
first all those blackman jokes, now the smackdown.
tomson rules

omg they still didn't put them up? lolz but this time they really are putting up the replays cuz i just saw with my own eyes you can trust me on this one
|
the games are going to be finished today right?
|
I obs trunkz from chile won vs foru but foru probably wasnt trying ^^
|
I expect at least one of them will get 2nd in his group and at least one of them will be knocked out in the first or second round.
|
xellos plays so solid, he will most likely not lose a game

Ahahah I totally agree. Dweb mania back in the day... sigh.. I miss his old self.
Also, I remember last year ForU did pretty well in prelims too gettin eliminated by Yellow I think? But he SLAUGHTERED Xellos on Char. Total step by step dismantling the Perfect Terran back when his uber safe play style was being picked up by everyone.
Also, I wouldn't rule out ForU simply because Ogogo and Silent Control did REALLY well last year too. Who was the other one? HOT? Eh.. he has his jinx.

P's have been winning over 50% of their games vs z lately (a lot more for a while, they had like 66% win during last half of 2003) Protoss have to practise some cheese strat for everygame in the leagues. It's different thing when they have to play like 10 games in a row like now. So i find it a big surprise P user got through. P users always get through when they have at least one map which is good for them and no more than one really bad -_- Well only 5/32 were protoss, which isn't very good. So i don't think they always get through. Last year on the same maps they didn't get through. Last year they had 1 map which was good for them (HoV was decent) and 2 bad BOTH vs T and Z (LoC + Jungle) + LT which is slightly bad vs Z.
You forget that last years prelims were played on 2002's maps!

Second, I didn't mean to say they wouldn't lose a single game; what I meant was I don't think anyone will beat them in a bo 3, especially with gorky and khoral in there (gorky freewin vs p khoral advantage vs z). And XellOs and Midas have developed a style which is not 'prone to fuckups'? Are you sure BoxeRs loss was a consequence of his style? I don't know what the system will be in San Francisco, however I can bet with you if you want, that one of the Korean representatives will be eliminated by a foreigner. I can put money on that. I don't think you've heard of Blackmans exhibition game vs foru in Korea WCG 2002. 2 years is a loooooooooooong time bud. You're missing the point, 'bud'. Are you suggesting that the skill gap between foreigners and Korean progamers has drastically increased over the last 2 years ? .. Yes a micro intensive player like BoxeR is much more prone to mistakes than a player relying much more on macro and safe play.
I don't think any of them will be eliminated this year but I wouldn't be shocked if they were...
I have no idea why you are even arguing this. IIRC FroZ even said that game 2 was mostly lost by boxer because he made some mistake that led to him losing 3-4 dships (long time ago so I don't remember exactly). I'm not saying this isn't something that can happen to anyone but I think it'd be LESS damaging to someone like xellos/ddang + they are both better at TvT and TvP than boxer etcetcetc.

You're not actually reading what I've been typing. I never compared BoxeR to XellOs/Ddang in the present. What I pointed out is that BoxeR in 2002 was a way better player compared to the rest of the world than XellOs/Ddang are now to the current scene. And if I would question the possibility of BoxeR advancing from his group 2 years ago you would probably run in with this same confident attitude yelling that there's no way he would lose enough games in his group to make an actual threat.
And even with the BO3 system I still say foreigners will give Koreans a run for their money.

I'll try to write some of the stuff again (no it wasn't deleted I just got logged off while writing :[)
I started thinking about who could beat the terran('s if xellos qualfiies) since I really didn't do that yesterday, I was way too tired I just thought for 10 seconds and didn't come up with anyone so I posted.
TvT... Hm, I guess Elky, FroZ (does he play still and will he qualify?) and uhhhh, I hear Beast is good TvT. It doesn't seem like a lot of terran players will qualify from other countries because of dahlia/khoral and foreign top players mostly being P..
The russians were all T though, right? I guess androide could put up a good fight or even win if he's good TvT (or does he ZvT?).
Testie, if he even qualifies won't play TvT I'm almost certain, nor will any other race picker I think.
Is enjoy good enough? Is suker good TvT (if he qualifies)? I don't think either of these will beat either of the (potentially) 2 korean terrans.
I think I forgot some T's now, I remember my list was longer in my previous post.
As for Z's..Blackman as long as he doesn't get cheesed out of WCG (I hear it's single elim again..), same for tomson I guess (though I really don't know how good you are!)
Ret and Twisted if they practice back to top shape ! I recall ret saying he lost a lot to DDanGG so I dunno, and twisted is slightly worse/same ZvT than ret I think (forgive me Erwin if I'm wrong :D!!!!!)?
Does Testie play ZvT/is he good? (if he even qualifies) I don't think he would win though~~
I really don't know how good mondragon is, especially on WCG maps. Since he has almost no LAN experience (or maybe he has tons of LAN experience in germany), or at least nothing really big I don't think he'd win.
I dunno if any of the racepickers will do ZvT/are good ZvT.
Again, my old list seemed to be longer so I probably forgot some.
I didn't even mention P's intially since there's so many good P's.. However, it was also because I didn't think too many P's would qualify because of Dahlia PvZ and (close spots) PvT Chow Chow + Gorky park PvT and pvz khoral which, while not impossible, is slightly harder on toss than zerg.
But then again, what Z is gonna threaten to knockout nazgul (ret and twisted but holland has 4 spots iirc), Rekrul (4 spots and no really good zergs to worry about) or Grrr (4 spots and only like testie to worry about in the zerg department). Strafe will also most likely go through since holland has 4 spots and only, as far as I know, 4 really good players.
Nazgul isn't in shape (unless he has regained his skills really quickly) so I don't think he will beat them, same with Grrr since as far as I know he doesn't even have a team right now? I don't think strafe would win a BO3 but who knows! If he gets khoral and dahlia I guess it's not impossible. I guess rekrul could beat them if he gets good maps ^_^
Then there's Pj, Cou and hm.. Is Destroyer good? Does germany have any good P's (fisheye quit right? and how many spots do you get?)?
PJ I guess could win a BO3 though I wasn't too impressed by his WCG map play at -_-;; Dunno about Cou, I think the korean T's might be too stable for his playstyle.
I guess sys is still good.. Any good spaniard P's? Maybe hellghost (I dunno if he ZvT's or PvT's) but I'm not sure if he's good enough! Then again, he has the advantage of being able to pick race depending on maps..
I haven't seen too much of sYs PvT so I don't know if he's good, just going of reputation on this one. Zelotito isn't too great PvT I've heard... Hellghost has never really impressed me PvT..
Hm, I seem to be forgetting lots of players from my original list again..
I guess drone, trek and hellghost all could do good, especially because of their race picking~~
Anyways, yeah I guess there's plenty of players that could win a single game/possibly a bo 3 depending on maps).. I still don't think they will (win a bo3 that is) :D! But I just like most korean players more than foreign o.o
Oh yah, and after watching foru vs saferzerg I'm not so sure about foru's PvZ :///
That was really bad -_-;;;

I suppose it's natural to assume koreans will lose a game or two, is that what the discussion is about here btw? =O
What someone said about Boxer being better compared to the rest in 2002 is something I disagree with. These players are so good KAKA.

Boxer was more of a dominant force in 01 (where he did go undefeated) than 02. It's conceivable that forU will lose on Dahlia or Korhal. After all who thought Boxer would lose two games on Valhalla in 02.

After actually watching the replays... ForU didn't impress me at all.I'm not even taking the final ,where he lost on purpose.I thought he would be a greater challenge ,but I'm not so sure anymore. Xellos played nice vs Nada ,but nice as macro and micro go.He made a couple of tactical mistakes, letting Nada contain him sooo easy.Really good nevertheless, but nothing incredible from a progamer. Midas was incredibly good TvZ, but I can't make my mind about his TvP and TvT skills yet.He deserved his first place ,imo.
Overall, I think there is a higher probability of a non-korean winning this year, than the opposite.
Edit: And by the way, I liked many of the zerg players a lot from what I saw, and its amazing how none of them qualified.I guess Midas TvZ skills are to blame.
