SKT1, the progaming powerhouse of yore, is now languishing near the bottom of the Winners League rankings. Of their top players, only  fantasy, backed by the wily Oov, is still performing consistently.  Bisu, knocked out of the OSL by go.go, is taking a break in Thailand. BeSt isn't the dragon he once was. All three of these players have had trouble with Zergs, and SKT1's only remedy seems to be  Hyuk.
The optimist would say that the team is in transition; the pessimist would say that SKT1 is decadent, moribund. The current state of the team is best evoked by the poet Shelley, in his description of a ruined statue in the desert whose pedestal bears the words "My name is Oov, bonjwa of bonjwas: Look on SKT, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Facing this crumbling giant is STX SouL, a team that has made it into the Winners League playoffs thanks to solid players like Kal and Calm and also to a surprisingly hot performance from their midtier player Shuttle. The first game of this match illustrates the contrast between the two teams: nowadays SKT is desperately fielding unremarkable Zergs like n.Die_soO and s2, throwing them into the water and praying for them to float in a late attempt to develop new blood and protect their inconsistent top tier, while STX can confidently send out Shuttle, who has delivered beyond all expectations.

Shuttle, who is on a 10 game win streak vZ, should have no problems vs n.Die_soO. Despite this, since teams seem to stubbornly follow the Z>P>T line of thought, I expect them to send out another Zerg afterwards, either Hyuk or s2 (they could keep Hyuk for Calm later on). There won't be any surprise there either. fantasy, with a last few words of advice from his nanny oov, comes out and his experienced vP takes care of the upstart Protoss. STX, having swept away the riffraff thanks to Shuttle, can now send out Kal. Kal is the most solid Protoss right now -- yes, he has delivered more than Stork in this WL -- and he put up a valiant fight against Flash, so I would expect him to win this game. If he doesn't, things could get trickier for STX -- Calm isn't so hot vT. Then again, fantasy isn't so hot vZ. Anyway, I've predicted that Kal takes the game, then goes up against Best. PvP is a finicky matchup, but Kal's momentum allows him to win and take STX to victory. If he loses, Calm is sent out and finishes the job. I don't see SKT1 doing very with with Bisu out of the lineup, and Best/Canata really struggling. Looks like Fantasy needs to play really good games to beat out Shuttle/Kal/Calm/Hwasin, or, ofc SKT1 zerg owns everything

SKT seem like they're in a hard place. It looks like Fantasy is their heavy hitter here and the outcome will depend if Best, Hyuk and/or Canata can get 2 kills together between them. If they do, SKT will probably win. If they don't... well, Fantasy allkill might happen, but it's somewhat unlikely. The games should be pretty interesting to watch nonetheless.

Snowdift86, that's not really the correct usage of decadent, which has a connotation of a collapse of corruption or greed. If the players started dating Kpop stars and being celebrities and they stopped practicing, that's decadent. Moribund is kind of awkward, too.

They were at the top, they had at it all. Now they're foundering. Decadence is an appropriate term. Moribund is even stronger, meaning "dying." Don't really see what's wrong.

Yeah, that could come back to bite them in the ass. They were too trusting in Calm's ZvZ even though the matchup is too volatile for a coach to expect guaranteed wins.

fantasy's one of the best TvPers, he knows what to do. Kal's 4 dt drop was just excellently timed. That dealt too much damage for Fantasy to come from, especially against a player of Kal's caliber.

The thing is, fantasy was doing pretty well with his contain/harass, which he needed against Kal's 12 nex opening. It's not necessarily obvious when to transition into turtle play when your aggression is working, and Kal just hit at an excellent timing.

No, he's right. Modesty is their dedicated vZ specialist, but they wasted their ace early on in a finicky matchup. Of course, saving Calm doesn't mean they would've automatically won, since the last game would've come down to a ZvZ anyway (Calm vs Hyuk), unless they chose the Hwasin option.

IMO they should have done Hwasin/Calm/Kal after the starter
Now the coach probably knows more than us to send Modesty vZ instead of Hwasin vZ, but wasting Calm early was pretty stupid.

Well, what do you guys expect? SKT's non-zerg lineup is a kinda in a decline, so Hyuk&co have to pick up the slack. And they do, indeed.

Feels good to see SKT win again, and especially without their Tosses. They might actually build a proper Zerg line-up if they keep this up.

Now that zergs have brought their level of ZvZ play up, it's a more random matchup than ever. The rule in Winner's League is that if the zerg already up is good, like one of the team's aces, snipe him with another zerg. If the zerg up is bad, like soo, don't risk your better zerg players on a gamble. Play a non-z instead.

He managed to snipe Jaedong because he got predictable. Smart builds = 9pool speed every game
soo is unpredictable, you have no idea what build he's gonna use. And they used Modesty anyway so they must have planned to use him. There is no logical reason to use Calm before Modesty.

Last WL it was purely Bisu, heck they didnt even have to send SKT zergs during WL because of the no requirements format.
Hyuk/Soo stepped it up in the special event WL tourney though

no he beat effort by 9pooling 2/3 of the games vs a 12hatch
he beat JD with all sorts of builds (or at least as far as "all sorts of builds" applies to prolevel ZvZ lol)
they probably used calm because he wanted 1 last shot at getting an allkill (it seems like teams do this for players a lot instead of playing the most logical player)
man what a shitty result to wake up to, soo is on my anti-team -_-
