This was the most tense BO5 I've ever watched, even with 2 of the games being shit.

I could just feel Nony's determination in the Outsider game where he kept knocking on that wall even tho it seemed pointless, like he tried to bend reality into his own version of it. And succeeded at it.

In Idra's defense, there's not much you can do against stuff like proxy gates if you don't see it coming.
If Draco could kill Midas with it(much bigger skill difference imo), Nony killing Idra shouldn't be that big of a deal.
Like it or not, PvT is slightly imbalanced in a sense that it allows protoss players to choose these 'magic cards' that give you at least a certain chance percentage of winning, almost regardless of your skill.

Idra's biggest mistake was choosing Terran as his race.

But Nony is still a hero coz Idra is a beast.

Very disappointed in todays series, because Ra's blatant cheese in the open was a D level play, so it was basically 1 freewin for JF. (gateways come out at the same time, so equal amount of zealots - any player with decent micro WILL NOT let you harrass enough to offset the cost of 2 gateways and 2 pylons)

IdrA's CC cancel was pretty much his power outage, I bet it set him off on tilt, so he tried greedy strategies instead of the more standard siege expand. Not only did Nony get a free game too, but he just brilliantly exploited the little advantage of making IdrA angry.

So to the winners today, I guess congrats on lpaying protoss? ;D

We saw DTs. Still, this series was an incredible disappointment, no recommended games IMO.

I feel the same way here that I do about Flash vs Jaedong.

Flash is the overall better player, Jaedong outprepared him. If you really think everytime someone loses a game then they are a worse player than the player who beat them you are fucking stupid.

Therefore:

HyuN > Flash
Sen > Ret
frOzean > Bisu

etc.

NonY prepared beautifully. IdrA knows NonY is comfortable in macro games and that's what he prepared for, NonY countered that thought and did the exact opposite of what IdrA expected. Reminds me a bit of Flash vs Stork in Bacchus 2008 where Stork prepared for the Flash style build and Flash just did an all-in every game and raped Stork.

IdrA completely outclasses NonY in mechanics/multitask/macro/micro but he just wasn't prepared.

I'm not shitting on NonY or his accomplishments. It's a beautiful thing to see this level of preparation and I really like that kind of stuff.

obviously you dont really like that kind of stuff. You fail to realize that preparation is an essential factor for competetive SC 1on1 gaming. And therefore it is an essential factor for determining the overall quality of a player. And who the fuck thinks a game automatically determines who is "better" anyway? Do you really think someone went thinking "Idra > Nony" to "Nony > Idra" to "Idra >Nony" to finally "Nony > Idra" in his mind when comparing the skill of these two players??

Its pretty ridiculous to come out and belittle a players skill by saying "yeah he outprepared him and won, but the other guy is still overall better player". Your hugely underestimating the importance of strategy in SC. On a side note, I personally think its idiotic to claim somebody is overall a better player when he trained 12-16 hours a day for 1.5 years and loses to someone coming out of a year-long retirement. In the big picture Nony is the more talented and therefore better player imo, but that is besides the point. Even judging their current skill and saying "he outprepared Idra but Idra is overall better" shows that you have little experience with competetive SC at a high level.

Lay off of him, he already rounded out his argument and said that he made a wrong assumption. No need to attack DrH anymore seriously...

Im sorry that must have happened while I was typing this post ^^ Anyway, the points made remain valid for anyone having trouble to realize that there is a whole lot more to being "good" at SC than one might think at first glance.

I just want to complain about idra's lack of professionalism. Quitting game 3 without even trying some kind of all in after that CC mistake was very childish, you can do that in practice game but not in a tournament like that. I don't see any progamer quitting like that, they are always trying their best, even in desperate situation. If idra can't control his nerve he'll never be a champion.

And yes I'm angry because I lost 50$ on this series.

I think one of the big problems is how people view what makes a player "good". Some people consider just starcraft related mechanics like macro, control, multitask etc the things that make a player good. Seems like other people also take into account things like mental strategy, tactics, in-game decisions etc. Too often I feel like people tend to say someone is the better player because they will win more often in long "normal" games, but I feel thats just one piece of the game. A players strategy, mental tricks, decision-making, and preparation and an integral part of who wins. To take it to the extreme, lets say one player is vastly superior mechanically, micro's better, macro's better, better multitast, etc. Now, lets say its a TvT and the mechanically better play always goes pure marines and medics, he will probably lose most of his games to player 2 because player 2 uses a more normal strategy of using mech, which easily cleans up the MnM. Player 2 would be the better player because player 1 just isn't good strategically.

As an analogy, you can have a golfer that has a near perfect swing mechanically, and sometimes even has better allaround stats that another player, yet the mechanically, even "statistically" superior player doesn't get the results out of his game. It may because he stuggles to perform a bit under pressure, it may be because he overthinks certain situations, or it may be some intrinsic factor that is difficult to pin down. Regardless, if this player never wins and another player with a worse swing or worse stats is able to win on a more regular basus becasue they have a knack for winning, that player will always be considered better.

Think about it, if one player had near flawless mechanics but another player was consistently able to anticpate, trick, or outhink the other player on a regular basis and win, how could you not say he is the better player. He is winning more games. Maybe player A will slaughter player B if the game goes into mid or lategame, but if player B can use his mind, tricks, cheeses, whatever to consistently win more games, he is the better player. Ultimately it comes down to whether or not your winning games.

In this series Nony was the better player, he anticipated what IdrA was probably going to do and picked and excecuted builds that were designed to abuse that, and in one game IdrA even played right into Nony's hands by going rax CC, he took a risk and it backfired. While I still feel IdrA is the best player in the foriegn scene if I saw Nony start beating IdrA like this on a regular basis I would have to concede that Nony is the better player. I just don't feel its correct to say one player is better than another because he is mechanically superior, if that player doesn't have the other abilties needed to handle a situation that deviates from a straight up macro game, then honestly he isn't neccesarily a phenomal player.

Childish? He had no chance to defend against a simple 2 gate goon attack from Nony. And I havent seen any progamer cancel a cc yet so thats why they dont quit. :p

As much of a ragequit as that looked, he really had no real choices. He was FAR behind in unit count and tech (I don't even think the factory finished, while Nony had goons on the way). There was no way he could have resisted a simple 2 gate goon

Idra always makes a big deal about cheesing, and has never shown any ability to stop it, so he constantly gets cheesed... and loses. Perhaps if he just faced the problem head on and learned to respond against proxies or eco builds better he would do better. The build orders he used showed he again had his cocky approach that noone would touch him even with cheese since he's so much better but again that gets proven wrong.

On a sadder note, this can't be good for Idra in the eyes of the CJ coaches.

As Nony said, the CC functioned as a depot, he would not even have been able to build units, why waste energy instead of trying his hardest to win the rest of the games. He gged every game and like usual you people always find a way to bitch about how hes not professional or something of the sort. Maybe hes just a guy who has fun being the best he can be at sc and likes injecting humor into the game.
