Once again we return to a group stage for the round of thirty-two. Each group consists of four players; the group selection event determines their placement in each group. Each group must go through a double elimination format to determine which players will advance and which players are eliminated. If a player can get two wins before he gets two losses, then he advances to the next round. If he can’t, then he is eliminated. Two players from each group of four will have the chance to continue to fight for this season’s title.
Group A 1. BeSt 2-0 ► Advances to Round of 16 2. Light 2-1 ► Advances to Round of 16 3. fOrGG 1-2 ► eliminated 4. Calm 0-2 ► eliminated
The number of remaining competitors has been halved as the tournament continues into the Round of 16. Beginning with this round, the tournament becomes single elimination. The players who finished first out of their groups last round will be paired against a player that finished in second. Each pair of players will play a best-of-three match to determine not only who will advance to the next round, but who will earn seeds into the following MSL.
Thumbs Down Since there are four maps, there will be one map in each best-of-three match that will not be played. The players who finished first out of their group are given the opportunity to give a “thumbs down” to one of the maps. What this means is that the player will get to choose one of the four maps that he will not have to play on during this round. This allows the player the advantage of getting to remove a map that does not fit his play style or that he thinks may be imbalanced in a particular match-up.
MBC's new format for the Ro8 has entered its second season. The brackets from the Ro16 have been discontinued, and the matchups are now determined by KeSPA ranking. The matchups are a Bo5 format, with both players able to thumb down maps they do not want to see played twice.
What's up with zergs having double the number of players of the other races? (Edit: and in both Starleagues to boot) I thought swarm season was last season... I hope we do not see another two ZvZ finals in the same season again. I'm not one of the ZvZ haters, but I'd rather watch some ZvP or ZvT.

Zerg has got a few months of dominance still left.
I'll cheer for KaL, JangBi, Stork and Bisu to win this MSL on second thought, I'll cheer for ANY Protoss that win this. Then I'll cheer for Hwasin, RuBy, Iris and of course Flash. IF WORSE COME TO WORSE (God, I hate Swarm season), I'll cheer for Savior/Calm.
I looked at some previous MSLs to see how the formatting went,
and Flash and Jaedong can't face off any later than the Round of 8 because their groups are next to each other. Hopefully it is the round of 8 so we can get a best of 5.

They radically changed the formatting last time to be able to put Flash/Jaedong on opposite sides of the bracket when the Ro8 rolls around

How does that work? Did they change it specifically for that reason?

It would not be fair if they did. It should be random.

The previous format did the Ro8 sorting by Kespa rank. Rank #1 and #2 are on the opposite sides due to this format.
I havent posted here for like a year or smth(been lurking all the time), but i had to unburrow just to say that July is taking this MSL, you heard it here first

No way, too many zergs in the pool. While I love JulyZerg, his ZvZ is no longer good.
Best on the other hand is gonna Royal Road this MSL up. Impressive showing last night.

I'm counting on the fact that all the hardcore zergs are gonna have a very hard time adapting to these maps, and that july will get his zvt and zvz to a respectable lvl (or just do wierd shit that catches ppl of guard in games that matter) and then stomp all over tosses from the quarters to the finals
or in other words exactly what happened in the last OSL he won:D

Ultimately what's best for both the fans and the company behind it is an epic final between two giants of progaming. Fair doesn't come into it. If the #1 and #2 seeds face early and some scrub gets 3-0ed in the finals by the #1 then nobody wins.
If Kal somehow manages to finish second I will be very, very upset. I totally think Flash could take him Bo5, Bo3 not so sure. Although I'd say there is quite the incentive to win that group. No 1 gets Saint, No 2 gets Flash.
if that's how it looks it's not bad - 6 zergs, 5 terran, 5 protoss. not sure which of the terrans besides flash will advance but probably at least one or two will
I'm amazed of how many chances Protosses have. BeSt really can reach the final. He has no really strong opponents instead of hero who can be beaten by Light. Also we won't have Flash vs Jaedong finals. They will most probably play in semifinals.
Sucks that by.hero and Light are facing each other. Those are among the few players I like left. And FireFist vs Jaedong. Imagine if FireFist wins that lol. Go Flash, by.hero, Light, FireFist, Stats!
I counted and there are 6 zerg, 5 terran, and 5 protoss in the Ro16. That means 3 protoss and 3 terran have been eliminated, plus 10 zerg. In other words the swarm took heavy casualties and is now only slightly ahead of the other races. Eat THAT swarm season.

Worst possible matchup for Flash, if it happens. BeSt's macro-style play is strong versus Flash's defensive play, and Flash's weakest matchup is TvP right now.

I don't think it's fair to say that his TvP is the weakest, he lost games to Best and Stork who are two of the best protosses out there. He just hasn't played many TvPs since he starting owning vT and vZ...When he plays a few more vP games especially in a BoX series we say for sure how he's doing
Flash FTW!
and here are my predictions
BeSt > Canata Kwanro < Bogus Flash > ZerO Jaedong > FireFist hero < Light GuemChi < Hwasin Kal > Saint JangBi > Stats
PS. Really something wrong with second half of brackets
Flash and Jaedong will not play each other until the finals if they do play each other. After Ro16 they get sorted by Kespa rank, meaning Jaedong would be at the top of the bracket and Flash would be at the bottom as the second highest Kespa Rank.

thank god I dont have your nose
dual gold is kinda impossible nowadays
Especially with so many PL games
It looked like Jaedong might take both when he was in the RO4 in both Last season (if he could beat fantasy in the osl ro4). He ended up winning Only the OSL. To be fair, the way Flash is playing now he might be able to do it. Jaedong also had the pressure of the proleague grand finals; Flash won't have that. I'm a Jaedong fan and want him to win the MSL obviously, but a double gold from Flash would be pretty cool too.
The map pools are so bad for Zergs this MSL. I fear for Jaedong. But then again, (I know it was long ago) last time JD met Flash in the finals, he 3-0'd him so hopefully we'll be able to see JD pull some crazy shit again.
I honestly think Flash is gunna take it pretty easily. i mean cmon. jaedong has been doing bad recently. and i dont mean bad as in not winning games... i mean bad for jaedong as in winning only 90% of his games. on the other hand flash has been kicking butt and we all know it. even the last time these two monsters met up, flash was able to dominate the dong 2-0. Not to mention that Jaedong's specialty is know to be JvZ and JvP. even thou hes a JvZ beast, its not perfect (which is ridiculously difficult to do considering T always has a stat advantage over Z anyways) On the otherhand, the term FvZ has recently been coined to represent flash's unbelieveable anti zerg play.
