Since it is now officially allowed on iccup, i suppose we can call it micro. Can someone explain to me how this works exactly?

if you place an observer directly over a missile turret, the turret will not fire.

And for a terran to counter that, he has to hit "stop" on the turret the observer is placed over

it's best to place it as it's building, by must spamming click-move onto the turret. It's possible to move an observer over an already-built turret, and it will barely survive, but i don't know how useful that is, or how consistent you can make it. I think you can do this with a shuttle too.

the problem is that the terran can spam "stop" on the turret and it will fire at the observer anyway, so it might not be worth your observers if you are playing against a good terran

Terran will have to pay more attention to the floating turret, or not, it will provide useful scouting area for the P..

Basically place your obs above the turret.. By press S on the turret, it will attack the obs, in a SPIRAL MOTION! Woo! Tornado..

This is useless and you will always lose the observer if the terran ever glances at that turret.

Its not as useful as bugs like hold lurker or workers using mineral walk to walk trough units which are accepted bugs. I dont understand why turret stalling was banned in the first place.

easy to find, but still annoying

im pretty sure that the turret will still "detect" the ob even tho its not firing at it. so a single marine comes and your fuxed....

well the abusing isnt really the vision thing, its more like 'hey you are protoss and want your shuttle to travel in opponent base without harm? then use our new [turret staller 2.0™ obsever for only 25/75/1]...you have to use proper timing tzhough so no warranty is given about any damage inflicted while using our awesome technique...'

cuz that could be a pain in the ass for t if his turrets dont take out the shuttle in the few moments he has noticing that observers stall the turrets attack animation

Yes you can do it with a shuttle! In Diplomacy Gold 7.7 or w/e you could get free money by dropping an scv on an island with a capturable city, and put the shuttle over the turret and have the scv kill the turret after you froze it! :D It didn't always work though Much easier to do with a turret during construction.

It's not useless at all, it can be used to disable a critical turret in a turret wall so that your really early shuttle/reaver actually can get through to their scvs.
Or it can be used (as stork did recently) to disable a turret beeing built in a push for a few critical seconds while you zealot bomb the tank line and break the push.

You can do the same thing without the bug. Just send the observer first to draw fire and your shuttle will make it in np.

it's not useless if the T is pushing and has to buid up a turret because of the lack of mobile detection and limited scan capacity, you deny that turret and the whole game could be affected by it.

What do you mean? This doesn't make it not detect or not build, all it does is stop the turret from shooting.

Its way cool to call it out as useless!!
....

It was used in GOM not long ago but I forgot what game...

However it requires special circumstances. For example locking a turret being built to buy just enough time to get a shuttle there.

just like tasteless said it's a healthy bug that should be allowed seing how making it worth it requires good micro and thought

I don't see how people could call this useless or why it would be allowed... You get vision that you *shouldn't* have, giving you vital information if you are planning an attack, and rendering the turret as useless... as it doesn't shoot at anything. Sometimes it can take so much time of spamming stop on the turret before it starts firing at the obs; SC is obviously a fast paced game, so you can't afford to just be spamming stop on your turret for 20 secs and crossing your fingers...

To me, it obviously shouldn't be allowed, but since no one wants to deal with/knows how to deal with complaints if someone complains about the bug -- as it is usually hard to determine "this bug cost me the game," so may as well have it be permitted. But for a pro league, that's kinda odd, I don't think it used to be that way. Is it just GOM that allows this?

Useless or not, it's inevitable that newbie Protoss rats are going to attempt doing some gay shuttle drops or suicide observers every once in awhile. Finally something to look forward to in TvP :D

If they do manage to pull it off, it really isn't hard to locate unless you are truly horrible. A toss did it to me when I was illegal and I remember making an effort to report him >_>

Originally it was banned because people didn't know how to deal with it. But once you know you can just hit S its no different than the frozen units glitch that happens like every game anyways.

No person with any sense will ever even use this bug because the other player can easily kill the ob anyways.

And yes it's allowed in korea. I think there was some mishap when a pro used it in a tourney where it was banned and he got DQed or they had to play the match over.

It should be allowed imo because no one is gonna use it anyways.

you can 'stall' turrets with drops/shuttles aswell, if you come from a bottem angel and hit drop directly onto the turret it will stop firing while the units drop out safely.

If a pushing terran has no anti-air, and only has a turret, you can freeze it by spamming move on the turret. The terran will still be able to see your observer, but won't attack unless you spam 'stop' on your turret to un-freeze it.

LOL I didn't know spamming stop makes the turret fire. I do this to my friends all the time when I play my friends and they don't know about it either

IMO this would only be applicable during a slow push by a terran. You would sneak a ob over the terran's turret while you are attacking and this would allow you to see where the mines are place and how deep the tank line goes. I think the terran would be too busy to spam stop at that moment to kill the ob.
