F-rank player struggling on Hitchhiker in this matchup. I've seen some promising two gate options in pro games, and there was a video tut on Stork's stream that followed up 10/12 gate into a victory with +1 speedlots in a straight shot to his opponent's third on Sylphid that might apply. Realizing that there may be no perfect solution, I'm curious to know how the community has been approaching the resurgence of this oddball map of yore.

I’ve seen Stork expand to the corner bases instead of his nat. Besides that it seems every other Protoss is cheezing.

Just curious, is there any way of abusing this narrow choke in the middle of the map to have fast gateway pressure and avoid ling aggresion? (even if you lose this gateway it should give some adventage with aggro and buy enough time for cannons in nat?)

Here's the 9/9 gate that Brain tried against Soulkey recently where that almost works but doesn't quite.

Notwithstanding the skill barrier, most of the problems seen in this game apply to lower ranks on the ladder. Z nats can be delayed, obstructed, and harassed, but as long as a hatch comes up there is practically no destroying it with 2 gate. Dan comments in the video that the 9/9 gate can transition into macro, and the Stork tut I mentioned shows how that can work on maps like Sylphid with a 10/12 gate variation.

There might be a fast min-only strat that works too. You see Soulkey scouting for it in his second ling runby. It's pretty obvious there is no way to snag the second gas for corsair production and whatever other tech. Also referring to the commentary, gas steals, delaying second hatch with a pylon, and other shenanigans probably need to come off every, single, time. It's still more satisfying than cheese, which is predictable enough and usually gets crushed.

If any other Protoss noobs with some Zerg mechanics want to hash this out with me I'll be on US West under Alkaeus today.

Whats the problem with just playing safe? Zergs cant flank on this map thus cant win fights in any way. So just dont die to all ins and you should be set?

Am I missing something? As a zerg this felt like a graveyard and I wanted to quit the game after playing zvp on it, are you guys saying there is a way to beat toss on this map?

F-rank is like... anything will work. Strategy doesnt matter on that rank ^^

Why not go fe -> reaver corsair on that map, and secure the 2 'island' exps? Can't make it easier on low rank.

It is a good map for the protoss.

When micro and macro skills are close, the strategy matters I like the reaver corsair idea with the islands, speedshuttles can get fast to each side of the map.

At E rank I've won more than I've lost by just walling off my nat and then doing sairs like any other map. Everyone's macro is so shit at this level that if I just get enough of my men through the canyon then Z (usually) won't have enough hydras to stop me.

I haven't played a game on Hitchhiker where throwing zealots at every problem didn't either win or cost me the game
