So kiddies we are a little under a month till Blizzcon and i figure we should start planning the meet up! Normally i think we just wait for semioldguy to set something up at that restaurant but a) he is mia right now b) There is a big OSL finals that night that we need to watch 0_0 !!!
SO! Cali kids, any ideas on where we can go that we can book out for a large number of people to stream the finals? I know Socal nerds did it before so i guess we'd be looking for a similar venue. Worst case we just cram everyone into one hotel room and crowd around a laptop...but it would be nice if we have room for... a few extra guests.
1) If you are coming to blizzcon (even if you are a lurker please just register ffs lol) post here if you would plan on coming. It will be on the Friday night. 2) If you have good ideas for location etc let us know!

BJ's worked really well for dinner two years ago. If enough people are driving down so that most/all of us could carpool I'd highly recommend doing that again.
I'll be there I have one car (since I live 5 minutes down the street) that we can use to go around to places if necessary.
EDIT: Yes I am aware I don't have to pay for airline tickets/hotel which is imbalanced!
And as far as places go there's a ton of places nearby but if a lot of people have cars we can expand and pick some possibly better places. In the Gardenwalk theres a CPK, Cheesecake Factory and a Bubba Gump which is mostly new. Also there's a 24 hour bowling place about 5-10 minutes away so we could go bowling later if you wish (Linbrook). I would suggest the Yardhouse since it has like 50 million selections for alcohol but the closest one is in Costa Mesa or Brea.

Haha I wish I could have you all over but I only have an apartment so that's a no go with my parents being there too... I could have a few over to hang out so you can check out my SNSD posters! lololololo I thought you said you weren't going anyway? No, but everyone needs a place to watch the OSL finals on a big TV! Last resort is..... yeh

Really depends on how many I think I could do like 10 tops at my place on the 52 inch unless you want to sit outside on the porch and look into the window stalker style.
Any chance to get a restaurant only for the meeting and try a wifi connection with a projector??
TL closing a restaurante for private party, would be soooo coool
I can imagine
Tasteless as bar tender Idra as security guard at the entrance door Artosis in the main stage doing some stand up comedy Incontrol w/ gf @ kitchen preparing some desserts

Because TL staff and Starcraft celebrities are meant to serve us cocktails, amirite?
Would you guys be interested in doing an SC2 tournament? For kicks and giggles?
If this year is like last year, they'll have two areas for SC2. One area is for people just wanting to try it for fun w/15min. time limit and another area that people are allowed to actually play 1v1's with no time limits.
I could organize the whole thing and set up time slots. Obviously, we won't do it right away because people will want to see the opening ceremony or stand in line to buy stuff.
So. You all interested?
Edit: I'm also going to assume that the build we'll be playing will be the same build from the press event last month. Which, to me, was a pretty stable build for all 3 races.

good luck finding one open until the end of OSL finals

I wanted to organize TL vs SC2GG @ SC2 but Diggity shut that down ;_; But I'd be up for a tourney. I think open brackets are going to be ridiculously hard to manage, but if you wanna go down that road best of luck.
It's not going to be something open to the public. haha. I'm talking just those who are going to Blizzcon from TL/GG/SC2GG. Can't be more then.. 30-40 people at most? We'll do Bo1 for the first several rounds into a Bo3 for quarter/semi's and Bo5 for Finals.
Like I said. I'll make sure people have time to actually play the game and still be able to do things. Blizzcon is two days and we can split the tournament up. Maybe do all the Bo1's and Quarters Friday and then the Semi's and Finals on Saturday.
So those that wish to play. PM me and I'll start making a list. Signups close Wednesday the 19th at 12am PDT. (That's 00:00 -8 GMT)
How hard was it in previous years to arrange this sort of thing with a restaurant, especially with the whole OSL finals idea? Has the projected game thing even been done before?
On July 28 2009 05:43 StorrZerg wrote: Has Blizzard announced whats going to be available to buy yet? (tshirts hats posters ect)
Prettysure that's a no. I believe they're having a 'pre-sale' for ticketholders online BEFORE Blizzcon though, so we don't have to wait in that dreaded line for an hour, as we had to do at previous Blizzcons.
yeah they said that they were going to open up a online store 2 days before blizzcon and u can buy the stuff then. Also, the roster is 65 now lol! gunna be a crazy party ^.^
Anyone else get their Blizzcon ticket barcodes today?
I did... Except I only got the code for ONE of my FOUR tickets.
o.o
Anyone else experiencing this?
edit: Also, it's been about 5 hours since my first code arrived - A bit of snooping around the Battle.net site tells me that I'm not the only one experiencing this. It seems the rest should arrive sometime today. =)
I'll try to make the meetup. Will be in Cali on a 3 week vacation basically going roadtrip-mode. I convinced my traveling partner to go to this meetup. Don't have tickets for blizzcon though, but we'll see how that goes..
Did we find a location yet? Sorry I browsed through this thread and didnt see a sure-fire post... and its really late and I have work tomorrow and have to get up super soon
i dont know if this has been suggested but what if we can get some guy from blizzcon to let us use their bigo projection screen from the tournament stage to watch the finals? that would be cool

Hoping to meet some of the more colorful people from the forums though
Hotels all have big conference rooms that no one will be using at 2am. I'm sure at least one hotel would be amenable to hosting us, even if it costs a few bucks a person to rent the room.

In my experience TL meetups actually get bigger, rather than smaller, as the lurkers and people from other less-cool sites show up.
You guys have to talk to blizzard because there are tons of rooms at the convention center which aren't used during blizzcon. Of course... it is 2am...
Maybe Blizzard headquarters? rofl.
My best answer is to find a 2 or 3 story pub and rent the upper floor.
80 People can bring some serious cash to the table though.
Less Cool sites? Wow. Pretty arrogant Mani. So are you going to start carding people? Tattooing real TL'ers from the fakes and lurkers? Nope. Sorry. Not cool enough to watch StarCraft with us.
Geez. Grow up. I mean. Just because people like to visit other sites more or not be active in your community doesn't make them less of a person or less worthy to hang out with you or other FANS of StarCraft.

Perhaps by definition they are then community meet ups? We did pull 60 at the last finals party here in San Diego.

Geez Psy don't be butt hurt :-) It's just that the less cool sites' people don't manage to organise their own meetings and show up unannounced at the TL one. Which is fine, every TL meet up warmly welcomed lurkers.
Only thing is, it makes it really easier to organise things if they would just register and post in the thread that they'll be coming. Last time we had set up a bar for 40 people and like a 100 showed up.

thats still like 50 per person if you manage to get 100 people to pitch in. damn expensive.
I would have been totally fine if had just said people from other sites. I know TL is a great site and it is always progressing steadily. But does Mani REALLY have to stoop himself to the level of a child and throw in a snide remark? Wasn't necessary.
A reason why other sites might not have their own meetups is because they want to hang out with everybody from the SC community and not just their own groups. This isn't High School. But now I'm speculating. I'll let it drop.

lol @ the people getting offended by manifesto making a joke
calm the fuck down, your reactions are why video game communities get so much crap and are viewed with such stigma, there's no need to get butthurt insecure over a 1 liner offhand joke by someone, jesus.
have you ever made fun of friends or done good natured trash talk before? ie basically every single healthy irl guy relationship involves a lot of giving and getting back (in terms of insults). lets not be sensitive nerds please.

On August 07 2009 03:56 Psyonic_Reaver wrote: Mani. I'm sorry I over reacted to what was just a joke. I'll restrain myself in the future.
I wasn't joking at all. A lot of nerds from less cool sites come to TL parties. It is ridiculous. We should charge them 2x as much because they can hang out with awesome TL members. At Paris it was a nightmare. They were throwing bottles on the patio.
That being said, I never considered YOUR site to be less cool. In fact, I think it is pretty awesome. Did I not offer to help with the sc2 tournament because I have some Blizzard contacts and ran their community stuff last year? Did I not just post some support in the PL finals English cast thread Radivel posted?
Anyway, who I was referring to is people from non-SC sites. gamereplays.org is much much less cool than TL. diabloiii.whatever is much much less cool than TL. I don't even remember the WC3 sites, but I can basically guarantee they are much much less cool than TL.
I think your over-sensitivity and reactions are what leads people to see your site as less cool, not anything we do. Seems like you are dealing with an inferiority complex. The problem with getting a conference room Chill, is that there will be damage with 80 drunken SC nerds, and no way to cover it except out of pocket. I still say, find a pub with a second floor and rent it out.

There aren't many pubs that large in SoCal. in fact, the bar scene here isn't that great.
is anything going on thursday or friday night? I know after the convention I wont have shit to do friday (as well as nothing to do on thursday when my brother and I arrive from plane).
I'm not sure if I'll be able to show as I'm attending blizzcon with my new wife and my brother and his wife. None of which frequent this site. Hopefully I can slip away to catch the OSL finals with you guys.
are people planning to wear TL merch the first day again or at least some kind of progamer merch? it was really convenient last year for meeting up with people (and pretty funny that wow players realized by the end of the first day that they were in for a rough game whenever they saw a pretty pony)

On the subject of food, I've been watching Man Vs Food on Netflix, and I watched the LA episode. I desperately want to go up to Orochon Ramen (http://www.rameniac.com/reviews/comments/orochon_ramen/) and try the special 2 challenge, but I'm a noob when it comes to California and don't know how feasible it is to get up to LA from the Anaheim area, nor if anyone would want to split cab fare and take the trip up with me.
I live in the area, and will be going to blizzcon. to above post, yes it is feasible to go to LA from anaheim, it is about 30 - 45 minute drive i'd say. But LA is the only place with good chinese food in Southern California (alteast LA county and Orange County, where Anaheim is). I know of plenty great restaurants.
I figure the best will be at a hotel lounge somewhere. Easier internet access and I'm sure they'd be willing to stay open a bit later for 80+ people who'll be buying drinks/food the whole night.
In anaheim, right by the Honda Center (the place where the ducks play) is a place called JT Schmid's. It is an AWESOME restaurant/bar with great filling meals. I go there before every Ducks game. Always left satisfied.

I m from France ;p but well if u want to call me Mexican i dont mind, it s better than French i suppose, or the same :p Though dont try spanish with me it wont work
Has the location been decided yet? I saw some stuff about using convention space, some other suggestions for a restaurant near the Honda centre, and some lounges at nearby hotels. Have we picked any of these yet? Do we even know which ones are feasible for all-night gatherings? What about feasible for people below legal drinking age, which as far as I know is 21?

The floor plan. On the bright side, SCII and the progamer stage are closer together than they were last year. On the negative, I don't see a tournament area like they had last year, for unlimited SCII.
Edit: Nevermind, there's a community tournaments area on the far right. That's probably it.
I'll be going at some point, though I haven't slept yet, and I need to be at the airport around 6am, so I doubt I'll sleep. I might try to score a nap sometime after I check into my hotel, and hopefully go with a line that's died down a bit. I might toss on my TL shirt, but I'll definitely be wearing it Friday.
The OP hasn't been updated in so long that I bet it's around 100 at this point. I asked to be added a few days ago and am still not there. Has the location been decided?
