This is a collaborative project between NeverGG and Konadora - thank you to Konadora for his hard work translating these messages at such short notice. 안녕하세요: Messages from the Korean Progamers is basically just what the title implies. Working in the field reporting/photographing Esports at Yongsan OGN studios provides me with ample opportunity to help connect the foreign Esports community with the Korean pro-scene. I love working on projects such as the Backho Well Wishes card and the promotion of foreign fan created cheerfuls in Korean event booths. So with a decent amount of time upon my hands due to cutting down upon individual events (MSL/OSL mainly.) I decided to really make the effort to provide a fun messaging service. At this point in time who knows who will leave a message for the foreign fans and we'll be checking back with certain gamers to see what else they'd like to share in the near future. To kick things off backstage at this Tuesday's Proleague I caught up with four of eSTRO's most famous faces and asked them to quickly write a little introduction message in the commercial break between the matches. Who would you like to hear from next? Thank you to eSTRO manager Kim Sung Hwan and the players of eSTRO for their kind co-operation in the first of this series. + Show Spoiler +(Also I may be taking limited numbers of questions at a later date, but right now everything is very much in it's initial stages. So please bear with our little duo-team.) UpMagiC: Hyvaa: Really/Seiya: Ryan/Sangho:

Nice!
I'd like to see one of an old school legend like Nada, Boxer, TheMarine, IntoTheRainbow, Yellow, Reach.
If not them, maybe one of the super popular, and well aware of the foreigner scene progamers like Sea or Savior.
Edit: FBH would be nice to, since he used to hang out with a lot of foreigners and has good english.

Very nice work
A small suggestion related to the art work.. perhaps you could consider a different background or a different font color, because the text was a little hard to read ^^

You guys need to thank NeverGG more.
|
Thanks a lot for doing this. Obviously it'd be awesome if you could get Boxer/Yellow/Savior etc., but I'd already be happy with anyone who says something more interesting than 'I will work hard and try to become a better player'.
|
sweet, thanks for everything!
|
Thanks for this guys :D. Heya NeverGG, sorry if you answered this elsewhere, but do you ever get the chance to tell the progamers (through a translator or something D: ) about the foreign community, what we think of them, for example how we call Reach Mantoss, etc. I bet if they knew they'd really get a huge motivation boost ^^

This is the coolest thing ever Hearing from the guys in ACE would be great

This is absolutely awesome. Thanks for doing these, and thanks to Konadora for translating them.
|
I didnt expect to see the actual scans of their handwriting. Its cool to be able to see a more personal, hand-written message. I think it means a bit more than just sending an email or a post on a fan cafe :D
|
Thanks for this, it's neat!
I'd love to hear from some really oldschool players, and of course, Much!
|
awesome
I wanna see Jaedong's english

why do they all talk like robots? they all say the same thing: producing great games and trying to impress us. i wish theyd get more casual and talk like real ppl. cool thing tho keep it up

Ever seen an interview with a football/basketball/baseball player on TV? 90% of them say the same generic thing every time about how it was a team effort and etc.
Anyway, cool concept - thanks never & kona.
|
|
I'm always impressed by the korean progamer attitude.
They always seem very, very good mannered, and make it sound like it's their public duty to become better and better players.
I wonder if they are all elitist jerks in disguise (or maybe a few of them) or it's just the way true progamers are.

Hello to my overseas fans, I am LCC! I will work hard to produce great games so please cheer for me!

Aww, they're all so modest. Thanks for this NeverGG (and konadora), nice to see the foreigners becoming a bigger presence to the progamers in any way and vice versa.

Could you inform them before the interview that we are the biggest sc community worldwide and that we admire all progamers for their skill and creativity (well, some more, some less )? I have no idea if some of these players are even remotely aware of the awesomeness that goes by the name of TL.net, so consequently I would like to see gamers interviewed/messages, who know of the foreign scene.
Incidentally, I want to hear messages from the greatest terrans that have ever walked this earth, him, iloveoov, and NaDa; additionally by.fantasy, Sea[shield] and Leta!
|
If at all possible, SKT would be awesome

Ohh, thanks for this never and kona! What a cool idea, hope to see more of this in the future!

eSTRO's manager is a fluent English speaker and he's very aware of Teamliquid - as are a lot of the other coaches/managers (such as We Made, CJ and MBC Heroes.) I've spoken to a couple of players who know the site - including those formerly interviewed or who are keen on the foreign scene like Sea, Boxer and Violet.
I always tell the players at our photoshoots as much as my konglish allows me to (I've told Kal how the foreign fans think he's really tall and FBH that his ceremonies are very much talked about.) I'm going to keep on trying to make more interesting connections between overseas fans and the pros here in Korea in the future.
I'm also planning to possibly extend this to a few one-word-answer questions such as things like 'Favourite fellow gamer.' 'Favourite foods.' 'Favourite hobby.' etc in the future depending upon coach/manager approval. I'll be with eSTRO again on Sunday so I'm going to gather messages from the other A-teamers and berate Sangho for his message. I'll try and get him and Suny to write in English because they're pretty good at it
Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions!

Yes because you've been to the team house, met the boys in person many times and know their managers/coaches pretty well. This is far from the case - eSTRO is one of the teams with the best atmosphere, friendliest and easiest going players and nicest house dynamics. The guys maintain a great working and relaxation time attitude and they're fun to be around at events. Don't make assumptions based upon a total lack of actual knowledge.

Thank you so much for working hard to connect the progamers to us and vice versa, I think I speak for all of us that both directions of acknowledgment are very important to us. Making the pros feel our passion and dedication is one of the most important things currently in my eyes, because it is one of the first steps to cutting down the barriers between our cultures. Much props to everyone involved!

I'm going to specifically ask the English speaking managers to tell the players to write something else if possible. Such as maybe their hobby or their favourite such-and-such. It's definitely possible for the following teams provided the management agree to help;
eSTRO (already confirmed as supporting the project.) We Made Fox. CJ Entus. Hwaseung OZ (if a certain person is there.) KT MagiCns. Potentially MBC Heroes (if Sea can translate for me.) SKT1 (using Yeongchul as translator if necessary lol.)
I'm going to work overdrive on it this weekend so please look forward to the results from the possible range of - eSTRO, MBC, CJ and STX.
