Total of 6 maps, with 4 new maps!
KeSPA has announced the official maps that will be used for Proleague Round 4 starting 11th April 2009.
Round 4 will now have 6 maps after removing old maps, down from 8 official maps. Only Medusa and Destination will be kept.
Round 4 will include fresh new maps, Heartbreak Ridge, God's Garden, Battle Royale and Outsider.
Maps with new concepts have been added to the map pool, with hopes of creating new exciting games.
Destination will remain as it is, while Medusa has underwent 'PvT' balance changes, and will be called 'Neo Medusa'.
The new maps will be used in round 4 and 5, and based on balance, a maximum of two maps will be replaced at the end of round 4 if necessary.
The maps will be revealed to everyone and for everyone to download, including observer versions, at the official website www.e-sports.or.kr on 10th April 2009.

i don't understand the gas change at the bottom main though

outsider is kinda weird, ive played it the least. battle royal is fun but quite non standard so its hard to really predict balance on it

Wow, hardcore. They removed good and proven maps like Andromeda and Colluseum to replace them with new and kinda odd maps.
Battle Royale is just super-strange.

Holy cow, these maps look GREAT! I can't wait to see these in action, especially Neo Medusa and Battle Royale.
(Unfortunately, every new map I've been excited about has turned out to be imbalanced)

Yeah, last september Acro and Isaac Newton weren't released to the public or the teams. Only a handful games were played on them by a select few progamers to judge the balance, that weren't broadcasted. I've always wondered how they looked like. Maybe one of them is a reworked version of one of the maps we will see used in the coming PL Round. I've read an inteview with Rose of Dream that Arkanoid was made out of a concept he initially designed 2 years early and the map was twilight with a bit of different terrain. But the initial map wasn't approved by KESPA at that time. At least we now know how Central Plains and Shades of Twilight looked like.

I notice they added neutral building + mineral block to the corners of Heartbreak Ridge.
So glad they made the center of Medusa buildable, maybe now terrans other than flash will have a chance vP on that map.

Actually at a further look i don't like Gods Garden. Seems like the entrances to the naturals arn't even. 3 easy gas seems interesting. id definitely go 3 hatch muta a lot on this map.

Neo Medusa is the same, and all around good map (except if you're a Terran facing protoss lol) God's Garden looks awkward to play on, I don't really understand the map. Heartbreak Ridge looks like it favors terran. Battle Royale looks freaking awesome. I can't wait to see games on it. It might favor zerg, but who knows. Outsider looks like it's a bad map for zerg v terran due to the third being wide open to tanks.

on neo-medusa it looks substantially easier to defend from muta. at top left compared to the other two mains

Other than Neo Medusa these maps seem a bit unfavorable to Protoss. I'm just stabbing out into the air though.

TvP on outsider looks like it be kinda hard for toss. Looks like terren never really will have to push the center. Seems like they can just leap frog the edges of the map pretty easy.
EDIT: also it kinda hard to tell but outsider really needs that mineral patch at those back expos so u need a scv and dropship b4 u can expo there. Right now looks like terren could fast expo then just float two CCs to those back expos and be running off 4 gas really quick.

They have very little recourse against being sieged.
With Battle Royale, I'm not even sure what to think. How exactly does a protoss defeat a giant Terran army on that map? It's difficult to judge distances from a shrunken down map, but if Terran can siege the Protoss base from outside those boundaries... jeez. I don't know about zerg though.

The whole set looks like it favors terran in general. Perhaps they're hoping for oov and Boxer to make a comeback.

also, for zerg (especially in ZvZ) if you need to make a sunken in ur main it won't ever cover gas,minerals, and buildings with the gas at 12, if it's at 3 it's much closer/tighter.
PS- I hope they fixed the space behind minerals there too, I've gotten drones trapped there a few times.

Outsider has 15 mineral patch and 12 gas. That's a lot of resource for a 3 player map.

Unlike Loki your back expo can be cliffed, which could lead to some cool drop ship play. And the front expo doesn't have a small choke at the front, it's quite wide open plus the minerals are facing impassable terrain which is going to make muta harass really easy. It kinda seems like both expansions are a lot more difficult to hold than Loki.

Does the Battle Royale assims works like troy's where one destroyed = small units only and 2 = complete block? If so I could actually see zerg being pretty strong zvt. Either kill one assim with pool first then go 3 hatch mutas (4 gas) then just overpower him or go quick hydras to bust both assims.
And how does those neutral buildings work? Are they only one each or are they stacked like in medusa?

God's Garden is interesting with the 2 natural expansions. Looks like the second one is going to be heavily exploited though with siege tank drops.

wow battle royal looks so fun, feels like blood bath again
gods garden looks pretty standard, securing an extra base apart from the main is going to be hard for t especially in tvp but they compensated that by giving them 3 gases
heartbreak ridge seems so weird but the map is probably the most diverse map ive ever seen, the ground seems so compact and tight but theres so many openings for p to move around so i have no idea how pvt is going to be here, as for pvz i can already tell its going to be a nightmare for p users, the exps are so far apart and theres just too much room for z to move around
i dont understand the concept of outsider..an island map? edit: oh i just noticed the ramps leading all the bases to the center while the side exps are isolated.. thats interesting but i cant imagine the gaming style here
all in all my favorite map has to be battle royal but heartbreak ridge looks amazing too, im just scared about the pvz on it
