This even has successfully taken place! Hope I see you guys again
Anyone interested in having a lan party around the Finch & Yonge area where all the kool koreans hang out?
The current plan is to go eat at a nice korean restaurant then go to a local pc bang and play some casual sc there. We're going to meet inside YK internet cafe @ Finch & Yonge to go find a place to eat then play some sc afterwards. It's right next to the Finch subway/bus (GO, VIVA, TTC) station.
I can drive anyone around Mississauga. I suspect Chill can pick people up from the east side of GTA.
Time is this coming Saturday the 20th at noon. Post here or send me a pm if you're coming
Age is not an issue unless your worried about chill cause he's a pedophile iirc. Insert lines about liking 16 year olds etc etc. Retsukage was at wwi/bcon and i think he's like 17 also gtr is like 13 or something ridiuclous - so yea no issue if you wanna come.

I'm gonna be at a tournament in Mississauga on the 19th, so I can probably come. It's more a question of whether I want to play StarCraft or play BlazBlue + Arcana Heart on the 20th... ^^;;
On second thought, I'll come regardless, since I rarely get to see any of you guys from TL (except Jesung). I'll let the guys I play BlazBlue with know about it, since they're pretty big StarCraft fans too, although I've never seen them play so I don't know how good they are ^^;;. I doubt they'll choose SC over BB, but who knows, maybe they'll be burnt out from the tourney or something.

Nah, I know someone in grade 11 at RHSS who keeps up with the pro-scene. Do you know a David?
I might be able to convince my friends to go, because I know my korean friend has wanted us to go to a cyber cafe at young and finch (assuming its the same one) as opposed to a chinese one that we've been going too :o Might be hard tho cause the next day were going to The Guvernment and they may not want to do anything the day before :o

Yeah, a David Dai, he sits behind me in my English and Math class, I talk to him here and there.

Yeah, that's the one. I think he watches Starcraft VODs, and at the very least he knows a few progamers. I think I've played a few games with him, he's still something of a beginner. He also has a few friends that are into SC.

If I live at pmall area, how do I get there with ttc/yrt?

I am going to assume that the Pmall is pacific mall at Steeles and Kennedy. If so, then coming to Yonge and Finch is very easy. Just take the 53 Steeles West (from Kennedy and Steeles or anywhere on Steeles) and it will take you all down Steeles and then down Yonge to Yonge and Finch Station.

Not quite sure yet. There's a lot of korean restaurants on Yonge & Finch so we'll probably just walk around and randomly pick one. I don't know how YK's equipment is so I'm probably going to bring my own. It was a recommendation from a friend so I haven't been there before although I used to pass by it every day on my way to work this summer.
Astral Eclipse and Hawk Eye from MMI were so amazing. I really hope Bill307 comes. His map making skills are one in a million and I wanna meet Kennigit too.
hmm, I'm just a lurker that don't know anyone but I live in the area, should i join up? Not being a iccup player means i'm beyond doomed even for casuals......
Some folks at the UofT Esports club might know me though.
all right, I'm going to try and skip out on work to show up, probably won't be able but we'll see. I'd be coming on the GO from Hamilton, anyone know if there is a bus I can take all the way to the Finch station or do I have to do some sort of change up at Union?
I'm working that day from 1-5, but there's always a chance I'd be able to show if I find a way to get off work. if not, I live in burlington, so it'd be pretty hard to get there for 7, let alone 12.
Yeah, i'll bring my own keyboard and mouse too. I think the internet cafe's eqps are bad. Does anyone know the rates per hour? I know in KTown (Christie), they have it somewhere like 2$ an hour
**Edit : Just called them and they said 3$ an hour or $5 for two hours. I guess maybe we can work something out with them if we come in with like 10 people?

Hows Burlington treatin ya? You STILL there Brad? Pshhh lol
btw, from Subway TTC from Union to Finch takes about 30 minutes.
I can MAYBE make it if you guys are going to be there till midnight. I finish work @ 10ish so after I head up it'll be around 1030ish. But I have to work the next day as well so I probably won't stay long =] I work @ Eatons temp. (just for seasonal, cuz I have absolutely no time during school)
And YK's equipment aren't bad. In fact they're superior to other net cafes in Toronto (afaik) You might just want to bring your mouse because they're keyboard are pretty pwn (for a net cafe)
and don't trust that shitty point placement on the google map YK is pretty much on the intersection (Yonge & Finch), beside Soban (shittiest korean food restaurant EVER. don't go there)

There shalt be merry-making, and hoop-tossing, and horse jousting, and wine-tasting, and fox-hunting, and barrel-rolling, and Starcrafting, most probably.
I had no clue there was this much of the community in the area. I can drive (Markham area) if there is demand, otherwise I can freely drink and end up being that guy. Perhaps it will lead to me confessing my undying mancrush on chill.

If you come eat with us, I'd say around $20-30 depending on how long you stay at the internet cafe. I'll ask for a group discount though. Hopefully we get some kind of discount. Otherwise, we'll just go to a different place!
Chill you mega cleared it up! I look forward to meeting you, and bs'ing you in team game lolol Um so now the only thing that worries me is the Korean food, I've never had Korean food and hope I don't throw it up!
Infinity you are driving from Mississauga? Is there not a train we can take/or bus from Mississauga to Toronto? I live in Brampton (we met wcg couple years ago im prodigy) and I'm up for meeting up with u and taking the train/bus from Mississauga. Or if you really want to drive perhaps I can jump in with you and pitch for gas/parking? Lemme know what u think.
One more thing what time would we stay till? I am most likely going to Circa Saturday night in case anyone wants to go and get some punani!
WTF infinity i live around britannia and winston churchill too...i never knew that...
weekdays there are go buses to finch from meadowvale go there are none of weekends, best bet would prob getting on the TTC somehow or drive on the 401
the way i do it on weekends is i take a go to union then subway all the way up, but the go to union alone is 30-40 minutes, and it's another 40-45 minutes from union to finch =( so yah, the 401 drive cuts ur travel in half
hey guys, what time is this meetup? or is it still being planned out? if it's in the afternoon, i think i should be able to make it, although i'd like to skip the korean food part since i eat it everyday ^^;
it'd be interesting to meet some TLers in the gta!
edit: just saw it's at noon!
should be able to come;; keep me on the maybe list though just in case!
hmm lol the few days i check tl.net and i see a post like this soo tempting to come and lose to allied lurks against chill ... and phantom still active..

circa is weak sauce guvernment is where it is at.
lol i been there long time ago its gino/asian fest with glowsticks.. so annoying. but both places are big ez to not get caught picking up multiple girls. and plus i have a hook up at circa now so i go where my hook ups are.
One more question about busing there with ttc. If I take 53, do I get off at Finch station or one before that? I know there's a map, but just want to optimize my route...

though I don't blame you because you live in hamilton
It really depends on you because the bus takes a left and goes into the Finch bus station so getting off earlier would mean getting off the bus while its on the 'right' lane and you'd have to walk down yonge like 1-2 blocks. Its better just getting into the finch station and going underground tunnel and coming up right where finch and yonge intersection is or just crossing the street when you reach finch station.
[I've never took the underground route but it is winter and less time spent outside is better imo]

To get from Brampton to Finch station, I suggest taking the GO bus from Brampton Bus Terminal or Bramalea City Centre to York Mills station. (go here for schedule) The cost is about $5-6. From there, it is a short subway ride up to Finch.
Jesung, you might as well put me down as confirmed. Nothing short of disaster will stop me.
Bill, if you have a USB stick, bring it. I'm bringing my latop and my pad so we can 3S! That goes for anyone else who wants to see my beefy Denjin who beat Haji because he can't even do Hadukens with the input lag lololololol.
In the interest of full disclosure I feel I should also say I went 50% vs intrigue who had never played the game before and we told him "pick chun and hold back and hit this button, or hit this button". Yep. One time he parried into low forward super and I shed a tear even though it was all just luckbox spamming.
No, it's just a portable emulator. If you are used to high level console / arcade play, then you will seriously struggle with the input delay on the PC.
^Oh right that's the word for it. I have a portable emulator for sf2 and I think I'm quite used to the input delays (though maybe not for parries). Besides input delay, is there anything else that hinders the game? (eg. one player's inputs that disrupts other player's input)
Otherwise, if it's just input lag I'm going to bring my laptop too. Although I need to install 3s
I can bring my logitech input pad then for anyone who wants to use it and playing sf3 is extremely hard on pc cause the pads for pc are not that good imo and the delay/lag that was already mentioned.

I'm going to have to take the pain of being banned as I was unable to get the day off from work, however, I promise that one day, I will meet Chill and that will be a glorious day indeed.
Hmmm looks like I'll be bringing my mouse, keyboard, AND joystick to this.
By the way Chill, Jesung kind of knows how to play 3s too, although he hates it.
One of my friends, Kenny, said he'd probably come, too. He plays other fighting games but dislikes 3s as well.
Lastly, can I make a suggestion:

Why don't we meet up inside of Finch station somewhere, instead of waiting out in the freezing cold outside of the internet cafe?
the Xerox tower above finch station has a lot of places to chill (food court, etc.), but there aren't many notable landmarks so it might be difficult to find people in there. but it's indoors~ (the actual name of the complex is the North American Centre)
or you could walk south a bit and go skating at mel lastman square while you wait
Because to get into Finch station you have to have a transfer and so basically only the people who took the bus/subway would be 'inside' finch station. However you maybe able to wait outside the gates that lead into Finch station and that is also underground near some stairs @ Finch and Yonge so we wouldn't be outside.

Precisely: we could wait inside the station but outside the gates. The problem now is figuring out how to set a meeting point inside the station that everyone can find easily.
Wow, have you guys seen the weather for Saturday, a high of -6 and low of -11 after a day of 15cm of snow. I swear we better have a good plan because I dont want to wait outside waiting for TLers to band together.
Bill I like your idea about taking the subway from yorkville.. i think i might just do that. i think it might be a good idea to exchange some numbers to.. hint hint infinity haha.
Theres a parking lot behind shoppers drug mart. Theres a parking ticket creator thinger there but usually nobody pays because of the whole "2 hours free if your shopping at shoppers" which everyone takes advantage of. even me. haha
Oh and one thing I forgot to tell you, is that there is like a $5 or $6 deposit for the cards or w/e in YK. You'll get it back afterwards though.
By the way, please be on time. I'm going to aim for exactly noon. I imagine we will gather people until around 12:30 when we leave for lunch. If you come after that and don't have anyone's cell, I guess just chill in YK for a bit since we'll be back.
I'd also like to try to work something out with YK where we can do some sort of flat rate thing on a dozen computers. It seems stupid to have everyone get their own time and pay full price if we have 20 people being there for like 8 hours.
My cell number is 416-710-7939 and I will be there early at around 11:30am on Saturday and stay as late as possible. My name is Jacob and anyone can call me and ask for directions (or ask us where we went lol) even though I might not be the best if your coming from Markham/Mississauga but I can pass the phone to someone else who can help you. My phone is free incoming so don't worry about me getting a bill

Well, the storm being on Friday doesn't help me much: I'm supposed to be getting a drive from Waterloo to Mississauga for a tournament Friday afternoon, weather permitting.
Sucks that on a weekend with not one but TWO big events going down for me, a major storm just happens to rear its head as well.

same case here for me;
i was supposed to drive/get a ride there, but if it does indeed snow storm (news said expect 15-20cm)? I doubt I can make it. I'll keep you guys updated T-T
actually given the snowstorm, i might actually come since i won't be able to get to T.O friday evening (if storm actually hits..). anyone near k-w that fancies giving a ride on saturday morning?
hmm nevermind, i guess i can just leave in early afternoon friday and avoid the storm? when is it supposed to 'start'?
nevermind yet again, apparently it starts quite a bit earlier than afternoon blah
I am in my room right now and it is still snowing. I do expect that the roads will be plowed throughout the day and night and I do not think that travel will be a problem on Saturday.
holy fucking shit there's a lot of snow in k-w and it's still going
when i say a lot i mean:
7:00 am - 0.0 cm 8:00 am - 0.5 cm 9:00 am - 2.0 cm 10:00 am - 5.5 cm 11:00 am - 10.0 cm 12:00 pm - 11.5 cm 1:00 pm - 13.0 cm 2:00 pm - 15.0 cm 3:00 pm - 16.5 cm
Yea it's snowing very hard here, I am not sure if I can make it, since I haven't had my G2 Long and I was planning on driving down (farthest I have ever driven). I dont know if I can come, I will see if I feel comfortable tho since I really want to :p
The event is on Saturday. Its Friday afternoon right now. Everything will be cleared up by Friday morning. I myself don't see why this would be canceled. It is not as if this is happening in 5 hours or something but tomorrow at noon. The city will be clearing all the snow tonight and tomorrow morning. I think everyone is going a little bit paranoid about a snowstorm that is happening the DAY BEFORE a LAN is supposed to take place. I could understand if this storm was happening tomorrow but its going to be over in couple of hours.
Almost all the weather forecasts show the snow stopping @ 9pm - 11pm tonight and then no more snow at all till Sunday 3am. They are usually really fast with the snow plows and maintenance of the roads during winter. I really don't see that as a problem imo. Everything will be cleared up by early morning tomorrow.
Some snow reports say the snow will stop @ 3-4am Saturday morning but regardless everything should be cleared up by 8-10 am Saturday morning. I live in Toronto and they are very punctual on clearing this stuff up especially since Christmas is very close and a lot of people will be doing Christmas shopping on Saturday and Sunday so they ill be pressured to have all this snow cleared up by 9-10 am.
On December 20 2008 07:13 veryhotpink wrote: i live in toronto too i know~ but its dangerous!!! many accidents can happen *knock on wood* i just hope no one has to bust their ass to get to us
I think almost everything will be cleared up by 8-9am and then the rest of the side roads should be plowed by 10am - 1pm. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Anyways, I am going for sure regardless of this storm.
The worst of Friday's storm is coming to an end as the disturbance that dumped snow on the city pushes out of the region, clearing the way for high winds, low visibility and blowing snow.
CP24 meteorologist Chris Potter says the heavy snow will taper off between 6 and 7 p.m., giving way to flurries. As of Friday afternoon, 14 centimetres of the white stuff had dropped on the city.
The main issue - primarily affecting motorists - will be grainy snow that blows across roadways and drastically reduces visibility for drivers throughout the night.
"That's going to be the biggest issue," says Potter. "(The snow) is so dry that when a wind gust comes up, the snow breezes back."
Conditions will clear up Saturday, but we can expect between five and 10 centimetres on Sunday.
so saturday is fine. Everything should be clear tomorow

I expect to arrive at YKs between 12:00 and 12:30, depending on how long the Greyhound takes to arrive in TO. (Presumably the subway will be running fine.) Once I reach Finch station, I head south a bit, right?

See you guys tomorrow.
YK IS at the intersection of Yonge and Finch. You'll see a Kor restaurant named SOBAN (don't ever eat there btw), and just a store or two is the entrance to YK. It's upstairs so it's easy to miss the entrance door but its in between two kareoke places.
I have work at 130 till 800 so I might be able to meet you guys the first 30 minutes and a little bit afterwards! =] (I work @ 8 in the morning on Sunday so, gotta get my sleep )
If you guys want, I'll be standing in front of YK from 12ish to 1. (takes about 25 min to get to my work so) Just look for a Korean (LOL) with a black/white jacket/coat, black pants with chucks w/ white earphones on.... with possibly from time to time, a lit smoke. or gimme a call @ 647-637-5893

@XDawn
I should also be their pretty early. I should be their actually around 11:30am but I haven't decided what I will be wearing yet. Probably Nike Running Pants or whatever you call them and a blackish sweater with a hood and black Rebook shoes and a very big backpack
infinity should be picking me up soon, if you see a short asian guy in orange jacket give a shout. I'm so excited, haven't ever been to something this large
Hahaha, hey guys, I'm sitting here at YK and supposedly all of you just left. There's maybe 5-6 guys left from teamliquid.
[complain] Ah, this sucks. I just got off work too so I'm too tired to take anyone on and all these guys seem really good. Plus I parked really far and my face is frozen solid. Since I've come so late, I'm kinda just by myself here. I guess I'll play some comp stomps LOL. [/complain]
That was a great meet up. Sorry I had to leave early though. I had a sweet time and it's good to meet all of you (daz, bond[i2], aerials, slained, pink, and the rest!).
It was really fun, we took some picture too with Pink's camera? It was nice owning you Jovan Jks, If we DO do this again, it'd be awesome if we can get the same turn out. Props to infinity/jesung~

We (dbunny, Bill307 & Friend + Me) all went to McDonalds around 8pm and ate and stayed their till about 12:30am talking. It was really fun. I guess if we knew everyone was going to eat later we might've stayed and ate with aerials/pink/daz/slained but I had a fun time with dbunny, Bill307 & Friend at Mcdonalds talking about everything we could think of for about 4 hours or more.
For sure, we have to do this more often - maybe get some organized games going. I had an awesome time and I am inspired now to be more active. My MSN btw is DrunKRBunny@hotmail.com.

Hope you guys had fun and HOPEFULLY enjoyed the food lol I was a bit wrecked because that place isn't the BEST place to pick out but since circumstances. Yeah. lol

Yeah for sure - thats why I told you guys that theres a way better place down at north york centre (like a 10 min walk / 1 min car ride / 1 station away for subway) but it was way too cold and I didn't think you guys wanted to go that far lol
Just got back home a couple of hours ago. GGs with the guys I played with (in SC + TMM + 3s), great chatting with DBunny and Yaqoob afterwards (and my friend Kenny, who hasn't played SC in years but came anyway ), and great to meet so many people.
Group pics coming...
Edit: did anyone actually use their own mouse or keyboard? It looked like it'd be a big hassle to try to change them.
My only regret was that I thought I'd be fine with the LAN equipment. The mouse was great ('cause I have the same one), but the different keyboard was not cool. Not that any of my games would've ended differently, but I found it less fun to play SC when I constantly had to think about where my keys were. :r
So I was wondering just how easy/hard it would've been for me to use my own keyboard. o.O
Glad you guys had fun (* jealous*), definitely need to prove my nubness on next one ( there will be a next one right?). Also, if we could have this with a little more advanced notice maybe we could get even bigger turnout. maybe jan17th ? ^ ^
