So Spirit is over, and one player was chosen. Guess who? Well since you clicked on this you probably already have figured it out. Congratulations to NonY!
Q: You’re in group F for WCG; if you take 1st or 2nd place and advance to the next stage you will be avoiding a Korean player until the round of 16. If you had to choose which of the 3 Korean players to face, who would it be and why? (Jaedong, Luxury, Stork)
A: I’d choose Luxury. I feel very comfortable playing PvZ and Luxury is the worst against Protoss. Jaedong and Stork against Protoss are just insane.
Q: Oh I see, I find it interesting that you would choose him, I would’ve guessed Stork since most foreigners can’t handle top Zergs from Korea. On to some bigger news, you were recently contacted by Daniel Lee, the former head coach of eSTRO, he had talked to you about your Spirit performance and asked you if you wanted to come to Korea to play on a pro team. Can you tell us a little bit more about the conversation you had, what your response was to his offer, and what your future plans are in Korea if any?
A: We talked on the phone. He wanted to hear my intentions and I was happy to tell him that I want to go to Korea and focus 100% on being a pro gamer. He offered me to join eSTRO and I gladly accepted! I don’t have any specific plans in Korea yet, but I know I will soon be going there and beginning my training as a pro gamer with eSTRO.
i think NonY is going to do really well in Korea. i predict he will win courage within 2 tries. congrats to nony! discuss!
How does the drafted gamer situation work? Is rent and food included and a small salary paid? I know the good A-team guys make serious money, but do B-team guys make anything? $15,000/yr? Is that information all confidential?
...in my dream last night some dude was walking by my house and something inside had me ask him if he was NonY. He was. ... I don't remember it all, but he was really cool. Except he got hammered in my garage... ...
eSTRO's looking stronger than last season. 10th place is definitely within reach this season. Maybe even higher. This is so awesome, hope to see you in PL games eventually. Keep us updated, kk?
SC Battlechest: $20 Winning WCG USA: $2000 (I remotely remember this from the podcast) Watching a man's dream come true after years of work and while his fans and family are behind him: PRICELESS
Congrats Nony! gl hf in Korea and here's to your dream coming true!
That would rock if you ever got to play in LeCaf. Watching anyone in that house must be mesmerizing. Of course, for personal gain, if you ever had a choice in teams, I'd say go Khan with their strong P lineup :D. You would learn tons from Stork and Jangbi (and ceremonies from FBH).
I hope Nony gets traded too, but actually Estro isn't doing too badly in Proleague these days. Let's just say they're an Ace away from winning a hellva lot games.

The CJ B teams own him I heard and it won't be much different in eSTRo
Nony!!!!!!!! OMG If there is one, just freakin' one person that I KNOW will do great in Korea, its you. YES YES YES Finaly! It is a good day to die :-)
Congrats Nony! Good luck in Korea! It'd be really nice if you got to go to Lecaf and follow in the steps of your favorite players... (Jaedong and Backho) haha
NonY is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Idra, and his style is completly based on korean gamestyle, so i can see him getting better results (than idra) in a short period of time.
edit: this is like PlayGrrrr... and ElkY's days... ^_^!

yeah i'm wondering how this works as well..
When you first get to estro you aren't progamer, you are practice partner so they pay your rent food etc but you aren't on salary. A Team gets paid but im not sure about B.
Argh. I was at the MSL matches today and I tried to hold up a sign with "Congrats Nony! Next bonjwa plz" but they wouldn't show it.
One of the staff came over and I explained about Nony, him going to estro and what a big deal it was to foreigners. After what a mini discussion with her boss, she said they would only show signs related to the game. Yeah sure, thats why last time I went a girl held up a sign saying "It was my birthday yesterday. Wish me Happy Birthday please." and it got filmed.
If he gets a license then CJ Entus will probably be interested in picking him up. And maybe other teams as well. Who knows. And then eStro can pick up the next foreigner?
Gosh, now i have to cheer for nony, since im the biggest eSTRO fanboi ever Why no Cloud ? Unfair, NonY just barely won and cloud should deserve a chance, too :/
On October 16 2008 15:36 Sentenal wrote: NONY! Yes, this is great news. I hope you are able to get off Estro though.
I for one think he should stay in estro until he moves to the A team and they start giveing him some televised maches so he can showoff his potential . Because chances are slim that he will get to play in next year in PL if he moves to a top ranking team with so many competitive pros out there . f he moves to a top team he really has to dominate the practise house for them to let him play in the A team and then Proleague .
Congratulations NonY~ I've always appreciated all your contributions to the community - it was your FPVODs that got me hooked on Protoss and I've been cheering for you ever since. Good luck!

Yeah sucks for Cloud he really deserved to go with Nony together from what they've shown in the Spirit tournament . But there will allways be other chances as long as someone is still motivated .
On October 16 2008 22:10 asel wrote: Why no Cloud ? Unfair, NonY just barely won and cloud should deserve a chance, too :/
Because Nony wants it more. Maybe he was just smart by saying this, buy saying he will try to get to Korea either throught Spirit or through some other way may bave won him the ticket to Korea.
Hopefully it was geniune because the practice will burn you out if you didn't have the passion.
On eStro he will be on proleague faster but if he wants to become stronger as a player and do better in single leagues then maybe CJ is better.
I think Nony will do very well in korea. He just plays on iccup very well with great stats. He trains hard. There still a lot to learn but given from the past it doesn't take nony long at all to learn something and work it into his gaming style. He will do well i think he will pass courage rather quickly.
GL Nony put out some replays here and there of your games.

great gl nony ;] hope u pass courage quick n get OUT THERE (thats whats really important.. not the fact that his joining progamer team).
but i dunno starcraft 2 is coming out early 08 n itll be maybe 2yrs that everyone will move to starcraft2? i mean if pro gamer teams n coach decide to move to sc2. thers no hope for foreigners. not saying as a offence comment.. but there is jus way too many korean pro gamers.
NonY to Korea? No suprise . With the great results he was showing in showmatches and the Spirit tournament, he may had been picked for Korea even if he didn't win the tourney.
With Idra being the first nonkorean to ever beaten a progamer at Blizzcon, this is even more good news for Team USA!
and abandonallhope, nony is not better than idra. why? because it depends on race. you CANT say someone is better than someone comparing to person. maybe u can say nony IS better than cloud but u cant say sumones better comparing races man. nony=toss idra=terran and ALOT of terran including flash, sea, sea.really, n others r losing ALOT lately to protoss.

It's hard to compare who is better if say NonY had to face Idra, but if we go by results then NonY would be higher. NonY won USA WCG while Idra couldn't even make it out of his group . Then again Idra has been the only player to eliminated a progamer at Blizzcon.

It has nothing to do with what race you play. It's all about results and who I like the most.
nony, i am positive you will do great in korea, particularly when it comes to passing courage! i wish you the best of luck, and hopefully, you will get to play on TV >_< by the way, who is your favorite player?
YAY! Nony is my favourite foreign player despite him being a protoss. He is really the best the could send, not because of his skill but because of his dedication. GOGO Nony!

Uh he's the first nonkorean to ever beat a progamer at blizzcon maybe, but he's certainly not the first foreigner to beat a progamer, or even beat a progamer in a televised match the way your post seems to imply...
Best wishes over there, and never forget: should it feel too hard sometimes, should you lose courage, remember: you're living THE dream of many. Live up to it, and enjoy.
From what i read here, IdrA had a rough time in the estro house - how true this is i do not know. NonY, please do awesome. i hope i speak for most of TL when i say that i truly hope you succeed over there.GL!!
I agree ^^. I must see NonY vs Idra in PL, and unfortunalely, i think Idra will end up like Flash losing to JD bad. Hope the estro guys dont treat u bad and u get a legitimate shot at making it! gogogo Excelllo.NonY

Why does Europe deserve a player? No one deserves anything. You have to earn it. Nony has the results. Nony got chosen. Cloud seems determined to go and he is good, so I am sure if he sticks to it he will be able to, but to suggest that somehow Europe deserves a progamer is just ridiculous.

Finally, for some reason we all feel this guy will kick some ass there and appear on a televised match, go NonY!!! rape thos koreans and show them the power of the foreigners!
Yeah I remember all that Idra said about the estro players being complete dicks to him once the novelty of the whole situation had worn off, that he basically could only practice by playing iccup cuz the others wouldn't play him since it was too embarassing to lose vs him, and since they didn't respect him at all. I hope they won't be dicks to Nony too, hopefully his charisma and more intimidating appearance will help with that.
Yeah, contrary to people whining about those euro-jokes and blaming it on that. It may be that Idra is easily bullied. He does seem kind of shy and timid. I mean, they wouldn't do that to InControl or something.
Draco said he had to respect the people older than him, like everyone else, but the players younger than him wouldn't return him the favour. In the end that just put him on the bottom of the hierarchy.
If there are enough foreigners and enough people losing to them then maybe they will stop being so offended by that.

I like how your sig now has ESTRO for your team I dunno if it has always been like that but I am pretty excited to get anoither American over in Korea! Gogo NonY you got my support 100% good luck man
Nony, be prepared to be treated like shit over there, cleaning toilets and looked down upon from your teammates, just remember to stand up for yourself and don't take any BS that you don't deserve.
You have the support from the foreign community atleast.
/curiositymode any expectations about how soon till you get a televised match (make sure to wear a tl shirt! :D)? what mu do you expect to be most successful in vs pro gamers? do you expect to stick with eStro assuming they don't trade you or do you have a "goal" pro team in mind? are you going to try to learn korean, or depend on the limited english of your teammates/coach and try to wing it to get more practice time?
Beat them down over there. If they treat you like shit, at least then you can smile and remind them of the various times they've tapped out against your mighty protoss.
You've always been my favorite foreigner. Best of luck.

I think it may be because IdrA was a foreigner and the Koreans probably view foreigners as bad or waste of their time (comparing skill levels of course).
NonY go own it up in the B-Team and show them who's the boss!
Good luck, Nony. Make sure to have some fun while you're there, and I hope you enjoy Korean food. I'm sure we all look forward to seeing you on TV, but simply do your best.
Hopefully Nony can get his pro-gamer license fast and switch to a better team like IdrA did. It's hard to get top quality practice with a low-end team like eSTRO.
