I've been using the AVLoader v2.1 for a while now. Lately I've noticed that my system keeps getting randomly infected even when the browser isn't opened. After installing anti-virus and Spybot, I've been hit with another infection and the AVLoader is definitely the culprit.
The infections are rather severe, multiple programs that regenerate themselves after deletion and browser and internet connection hijackers. Last time I spent over an hour to manually remove these from my system.
In addition to this, sometimes, after about 5 secs after the AVLoader launched SC, it would launch an ad on your desktop for a few seconds and then disappear.
I'm not sure what's going on with this useful utility but launching viruses and adware is not cool. Despite antivirus and anti-adware, whatever the program launched still infected my computer.
Has anyone else have a similar experience?

OMG. Wow..
I feel so bad for telling my friend to DL this a while ago.

Yep, ADV recently hijacked my computer. It would take over my desktop, replacing my background with some link to fake anti-virus software, and it would shut down my computer after 1 minute, before I could try to figure out wtf was going on.
Eventually I just restored windows to a previous point, but it was definitely ADV that did this, as I'm pretty vigilant about shit I download.

I guss the AdvLoader website was infected, and the small browserwindow in the launcher infects your comp. edit: I don't see anything suspicious in the html-code. So this theory seems wrong.

OO is this really true ?
Should i delete Adv ?
|
I don't have any problems at all with ADV. I do use the ADV plugin for Chaos launcher though and haven't started ADV for quite some time now.
What is the best way to proceed now? Only use the CL plugin and never ever start ADV itself?!?

Yea the code seems clean, just a stat counter and some google ads. I really don't know where the infection's coming from, but the initial infection comes from AdvLoader.exe as show in the screenshot. It was that process that launched the first virus.
I'd like to note that this is somewhat recent and with IE 7 installed. In the last month or so, AdvLoader has infected my system 3 times.
Several months earlier, I used it with no problems with another OS that only has IE 6. The new IE 7 could be the problem or it's just that the AdvLoader program has just recently started with the adware stuff.

thankfullly i got a dell comp just F,something when its starting up and the factory image restore takes about ten minutes, and poof windows vista is restored and comp formated! :D (yes this is kind of a brag bcus i never knew how ez a comp cud be until i bouight this one :ahah)

Lol. I read your post like 5 times and I don't really know what you are trying to say. T_T

Running advloader almos 24/7 and had no problems Running full security with Eset nod32 updates every day and firewall.
Nothing wrong here ...
|
|
I've never had any issues with ADV loader... but I don't run it 24/7. I only load it up for replay watching.
|
wait if you dl advloader now it will give you virus? will it give you a virus if you had advloader before this virus came up?

I have not had any problems so far, but then again, I've only used it 5 times max.

I used my advloader yesterday for the first time in like a month, and now all kinds of shit are popping up.
|
|
I've been using it with absolutely no problems since 2.1a came out
|
No wonder I had to fucking reformat my computer a few weeks ago
|
|
I dont think we should give ADV a bad name yet, its very possible its a false positive, and the OP said he only recently installed anti-virus so his computer could have been infected from something else.

There could be some fake/altered version out there? (dl'ed from a bad site) Dunno but I realy doupt advloader is responsible...
|
First, take a look at the screenshot. My anti-virus program detected a virus that was accessed by Process Name: AdvLoader.exe. If you look at the bottom of the screenshot, it is AdvLoader that launched and is accessing the virus page. The anti-virus software detected the virus, attempted to delete it but failed and notified me that it couldn't be deleted because it was in use by another program (AdvLoader).
Obviously, a program does not need to contain a virus to load a virus onto your computer. It can simply load a page from the internet that has a virus, and that will infect your computer. You can go and scan IE, it contains no viruses but you can get all kinds infections through it. The problem is with AdvLoader you can't control what it's loading onto your computer.
So this is what I'm saying the AdvLoader is doing, periodically loading pages that contain viruses/adware. The window at the top of the program makes you vulnerable to infection. And no, it's not from somewhere, anywhere else, as shown by the screenshot.
|
wow and i thought this was all due to when i freaked out about that girl i watned to see naked and made some bad decisions regarding sites i DL at.
But aroudn the same time i got advloader, i hope its not the culprit, but maybe it is and theres a cure, becuase ad-aware and spybot search and destroy couldnt get rid of whatevers fucking up my computer.

more research ploxxxx :D
i need these pop ups gone, it makes iccup fucking hard.

Adaware and spybot aren't very good. They work in the general sense but they'll always be one step behind, much like anti-maphackers. PM me and I'll help you out.

Frankly i thinkt he porablem is that your looking at too many p0rn sites zeesh cut it down to only well known porn sites they dotn give virsi ADV is clean from my look at the coding at most the it can come from the little window with random ass adversiements in it but then just put ADV loader on a closly watched fireawall dont let it free roam

Except that i have noticed that even when SC is closed the ADVloader is still open and sometimes after about a minute it might alt tab me and show a popup. I think I stopped it with bannerzapper though.

Perhaps you already had some adware which redirects the content of the browserwindow of AdvLoader. ie using the hosts file or an IE plugin. Or one of the Ads AdvLoader displays comes from an infected server.
|
This would be most sad. I'm curious why only new installs seem to be followed by problems.
|
i just installed, and aside from the interface being ugly as hell, I have no problems with adv.
|
Wow whats very ironic is just yesterday my browser was running slow (lag in scrolling pages and clicking links) so i closed my advloader and it began to run faster. But other then that my pc never ran that show while having advloader/bw open...Seems odd that it just started to do it yesterday..I ran CrapCleaner and seemed to be fine with everything. I was thinking about a defrag but I had just done one of those not even 2 weeks ago.
|
For you guys having problems, you can run advloader plugins with chaoslauncher. Just install adv then install chaos in a different folder, you can then delete the advloader.exe if you want because you only need the plugins.
|
I downloaded it and now my laptop is all screwed up, does anyone know some good free virus poretection websites? Also my other computer has it and there arent any viruses on it, is that just luck or what? Also, are there any other programs like advloader, that tell you the APM's and stuff like that? Is this a problem with the whole program or is it just corrupted from the link?
|
The only people i've seen it affecting are people who dont have antivirus installed. Maybe SMK designed a trojan to infect stupid people..
|
The virus could be a dll which is being attached to your AVloader exe. there is a place (maybe several but I only know of one) in the registry where dlls can be set to auto attach to every program run on your computer. I'd advise doing more research to figure out the source before going around pointing fingers. If you just recently installed the anti-virus its highly likely the malware has been on your computer for a considerable amount of time.
|
Lol, just look at the first post :D File name: C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\... << there is a virus Threat name: Win32/Heir And at the bottom - C:\Program Files\StarCraft\AdvLoader\AdvLoader.exe Where information, that AdvLoader.exe is a virus ? :D I just watch, that C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\... - virus(threat).
Look at the next picture - SpyBot detects a virus "C:\Program Files\QdrModule\QdrModule15.exe" - sorry, but how it depends with AdvLoader ? May be QdrModule15.exe sounds like AdvLoader.exe ? :D
P.S. i have Nod32(btw best antivirus) and SpyBot - i have no problems with AdvLoader. Btw, if you have old version of InternetExplorer(4.0 for example) or you have XP without ServicePack2 installed... your computer is already overflowed by viruses - that for sure ;-)

Hrmm i doubt it's dust bro....I air spray my tower like once every couple of months...Plus it was just ironic that once i closed out my advloader it seemed to clear up the lagness I was experiencing with my browser...I use firefox to...

I just turned on ChaosLauncher. It asked if I wanted to update RWAPlayer (or Recorder, didn't notice) from 0.3.0.0 to 0.3.0.0 I figured why not, said yes. On restart, AVG popped up saying a Trojan had been found in chaosupdater.exe. I healed it, and now it won't start.
Anyone else?

Plus now I can't get on USWest, it says my CDKey is in use (by me).

Methinks it might be possible another program is infecting ADVLoader and ChaosLauncher? Is this possible? Like maybe some kind of sketchy BW Program, Oblivion (or other hacks) are modifying these programs? Is this possible? If it were, it would both explain why this is only happening to some people, and why they wouldn't admit it... Could also be that the program randomly chooses whether or not to go virus mode (like random chance 1 in 200 of going infectious) just to avoid suspicion.
I don't know. It's all very weird and unnerving. So far my computer has been acting normally though.

I don't know. It's all very weird and unnerving. So far my computer has been acting normally though. That's almost 99% assuredly not the case. ChaosLauncher is "detected" as having a trojan because it can auto-update itself, and virus scanners see that as a "virusy" thing to do. I don't know whats happening with AdvLoader, however.
|
I've only recently been getting viruses detected while running ADVLoader. I don't know why they started, but man this sucks. I loved that program

Yeah that's not really true. if you go to sites to download free shit and look at porn you are most likely going to get a virus... But if you don't you will most likely NOT get a virus. :D

I've used ADVLoader for a couple months, but only have been getting Virus Detection pop-up messages from its ads the past week. I guess I'll have to do the work around to plug-in ADV to Chaos and delete ADV... after my virus scan finishes running...

You could also post on the AdvLoader forums and hope smk takes care of it.

This just started happening today for me. It says I have a trojan from chaosupdater.exe? So, after I delete it, a few minutes later and another message but from somewhere else says I have the exact same trojan. Why is it happening now!?!?!
edit: it was chaosupdater, not chaoslauncher

then redownload the whole Chaoslauncher.zip. That should help with most scanners.
|
Yeah I had adv for like 4 month now, and its problems have been going from small ad problems to serious ones. I think I am going to use chaos from nwo on
|
|
|
ADVLoader is like ChaosLauncher where it has plugins like zerg mineral hack detect, auto replay saver, latency changer etc.
I've been using it since it came out, and I too had noticed that it would run active x scripts and try to load popups and shit. Lucky for me though I have all my active X controls set to deny or prompt me everytime so I just close them and the program works fine.
|
I just use the plugins that come with adv and launch them with chaoslauncher. No problems so far.
