Hi, does anyone know how to hide your IP address on Bnet, or to detect other players' IP address?

Some dude managed to detect my IP address while I was in a channel...how is that possible? Is he hacking?

That shouldn't be possible. Only point where you should be able to detect IP's is in game, and even then, with 3rd party software.

edit: wasn't this possible with channel bot software?

I think the WHISPER command makes it possible for one user to send data directly to another user (without going by Battle.NET server).

If that is the case, you don't even need a bot to know IP of the one you've just whispered, by just monitoring all your connections before and after you make the whisper (using NETSTATS command in Windows)

Even if he is able to see your IP, it's not like he can hack your computer.

Correct.

There may also be hacks for Starcraft which display it directly on screen, but basically you can always use netstat or other network analysis tools to see which connections are active, and thus see the IP addresses.
So... what's the big deal?

yeah, because all script-kiddies hang out on gaming channels to "hack" computers. (well, with WoW where money is involved...)

The only time I'm aware of that you get other peoples IP is in the game lobby / game. Just hanging out in the channels should not reveal your IP, unless I'm mistaken.

Don't freak out about it. Visiting a website reveals your IP address: it is not like a magic number that will let him hax0r your b0xen.

Follow proper network security practices and you will be fine.

Somehow I don't think the people who CAN hack you make threats. They just hack you. The ones that make threats probably need help logging on to AOL.

I love mocking the ones that threaten though. NO PLEASE DON"T HACK ME I"LL DO ANYTHINGGGGGGGGG!

Actually after testing, neither netstat nor arp -a seem to work for me. Netstat just shows that I'm connected to battle.net. Is there another suffix I need to show individuals connected in a game?

So what actually works? It would be nice to be able to ban hackers when they smurf.

StarCraft is all UDP, so you either need a 3rd party utility to read the IPs from the executable, or a packet sniffer (netstat only shows TCP connections, arp is for local subnet only).

paranoid much? Is he gonna take your WoW gold? lol not much he can do with just an ipadress that he couldn't do by randomly go though ip adresses. Is there a higher perpensity to do something bad to you if he knows your ip? anyways your not a server so only your mac address stays the same so just retart your router and he no longer has your ip address.
I have ass for brains so,
even when I shit I'm droping knowledge.
