I went over to fomos to find pictures of Samsung I can steal so i can post it onto the samsung cheering thread, and I found out about it on the front page.
Silver Retires
First Eliza, then Kingdom, Oov, and now Silver... what's happening to all our players? =/
it says he's been going through the retirement process since november and he has finished that process now. He had been looking for things to do after the retirement, and he has chosen to become a commentator for amateur leagues.
Please take some time to reminisce upon the player. You can bash on him if you want, or you can think about how much he loved those hydra all-ins and stuff.
Good bye Silver. We'll miss you and your badass build on Monty Hall.
You solved the Monty Hall riddle, sad to see another awesome face. And you made for some awesome games in the future. Your awesome build could be directly traced to GGPlay winning the OSL 3-2, instead of losing it 1-3.

You forgot the fries too, he'd be working so fast. But Silver isn't even that old yet, the last game was, like everyone else mentioned, that ingenious build on Monty Hall, even boxer, couldn't figure it out. I remember him playing savior in some finals, he got owned like 4-0, anyone remember?
i remember someone said that they were surprised that more people arent retiring (in reaction to yooi) given the harshness of the sc scene and with sc2 coming out... i guess they were right

as far as I remember YATGK MSL was the only league with a bo7 final.

i dont think sc2 has anything to do with it personally. I mean, there is a good chance that SC progaming remains live and well even after sc2 is released.. I remember back when many people(including koreans) were predicting that War3's release might overtake SC in progaming, but that never happend obviously..
I think the main reason that a lot of people retire is because there is just way too many good players nowadays.. The average korean progamer has been getting better and better, look at those guys that flake out in survivor or dual tournament - they practice 12+ hours a day and have near flawless micro/macro, but it is just too hard to get a edge imo. I truly do believe that SC progaming is probably one of the hardest jobs out there to get any real success at. At least silver got 2nd place once, that's a lot better than most progamers can say..
can anyone please post the link to any one of Silver's "genius monty hall build" ? i really haven't seen this guy play although I have heard of him. thank in advance!!
I thought his hydra ZvP was fantastic. IIRC it was the only ZvP Bisu feared back in the day. His creative Monty Hall build was excellent too. Tata Silver.
I'll be very interested to see how many sc1 pro gamers remain five years from now. Or if sc1 pro gaming even exists. Perhaps I am pessimistic...but then again it's not like sc hasn't gotten its unexpected 10 years of fame.
My all time favorite Silver game was the one against Hwasin on sin peaks where he absolutely ran over him with only mutalisks. It was really awesome.. I remember that MBCGame had a tv show like top 100 best vods or something, and that one was pretty high on the list. Too bad it's not on youtube or anything though =O

Was this the one where Hwasin was on 7?? I dont remember the Zerg but iirc Stx lost their chance to playoff cuz of it. It was seriously good rape with mutas, comparable to July and Jaedong.
added: Found the youtube of the game, a tribute for Silver.
Dunno why Pusan and MBC ppl shows up. He kinda have dual muta control but that was for like split seconds. He always look so relaxing when hes playing.

Yea I remember Hwasin was at 7..It was an awesome game because Silver was low on drones all game long but his awesome micro single handedly won him the game =P Game info http://teamliquid.net/tlpd/games/2290_Hwasin_vs_Silver but no vod sadly :O
edit : Sweet, thanks so much for posting the vod man. I love that game :O
shame Silver ;( I did wonder what happened to him. He never competed in the prelims last week either, was a sign he was gonna retire from profesional sc ;(

well his name is silver not gold, id say that sick monty hall build was his last hurrah tho it was stunning
I still remember the day he came out of nowhere and beat Boxer in the first round of MSL pre-lims with a 2-0 score. That was about 5 years ago now. There were a group of fangirls who were there to give V-Gundam some presents (they were from his fanclub) and when they heard Boxer had been finished in the first round, they just burst into tears.
Then when he beat Boxer on Monty Hall, I burst into tears. T_T
I'm glad he's gone, now he can leave Boxer alone. T_T
I remember when he proxy hatched in-base vs. FE Daezang on Arcadia, and of course the Monty Hall build and many hydralisk all-in plays. He did it with style.
But currently I think there are way too many progamers. Look at the qualifiers, lots of no-namers can be seen. Reducing the number of progamers may benefit the whole progaming scnee IMO. The majority of them's skill level is differs not too much. Luck pays an important factor as well. There will be enough fanbase for most players, as for now supporting a player is hard. Most of them do not get much on air time.
I admire them but being a progamer is really tough job me thinks.
Arg. This is sad news. The last game I remember watching of Silver was that epic game on Monty Hall where he went guardian + hydra. I will always remember that, and Silver.
Damn so many people retiring. Well I hope Nada and Boxer still have a few good years left in them...
Such a pain it is to hear of retirement, making games grow old along with its members.
And then... another game will take it's place, but it isn't truly filled, nor the same, but that is why it is new. Eventually games are forgotten, and then out of nowhere a breakthrough game occurs, that is just as fun or more so. Strange how the satisfaction of games constantly, slowly, slips away.
