This is more of a general warning, if you have a public BW serve, make sure you have good spam protection. This isn't the first time he's done it and it won't be the last. I have added Carl Bot personally, as it's pretty good at grabbing people who mass mention people. It's such a shame that such a great community can be ruined by one person who is upset that we don't like a hack he made. | ||

Initially he tried to push a UMS for practice that works in 1.16, this was ok but not groundbreaking and also opened avenues for hacks but he doesnt take criticism at all or doesnt understand why people wouldnt instantly praise his work | ||

I don't think you understand how much he did this. I had hundreds of notifications on my phone from 10-15 different servers. It was really fucking annoying. To all the people defending him, tolerating such bullshit in our community is not acceptable. This deranged fucker has done too much already and he deserves no sympathy whatsoever. He's a parasite that refuses to let go, while terrorizing communities with his bullshit. Fuck him. I won't waste my time detailing all of the shit he has done but I invite everyone to search TL and beyond and DYOR. | ||

We banned Moataz from the SB discord a few months back and did not get hit in this wave of spam. While that doesn't conclusively indicate that it's him, it's further evidence in that direction. Add onto that that he was recently banned from Reddit, and you can start to see that he's running out of options for places to spread his weird conspiracy theories and spam so, here we are. | ||

Seems to me he makes custom maps/tools that, if not the product of the second coming at least seemed to be reasonably well-received by people But that’s not enough somehow? I mean what’s he actually want? | ||

I fucking hate going into this territory, for obvious reasons. Having been there, done that, got the t-shirt, been extremely mentally unstable myself, been in an institution for basically a year. This kind of behaviour ticks too many achingly familiar boxes There isn’t, as you say a halfway solution. Guy needs help, not for the wider BW community’s good but for his own. I mean I got it and over time realised I was being a gigantic pain in the arse in the prior period. | ||

He's been ban evading and harassing the BW community for a very long time, constantly spamming people about CoachAI and then getting mad when people aren't interested. At first people were politely telling him off, then ultimately after he wouldn't take no for an answer he started getting banned from places, and now he regularly shows up to do exactly this. It's the exact same type of harassment each time (same style, same way of getting around @everyone server rules), and I think he's probably using a self-bot for it. Last week when he did this (when this topic was originally made) I had literally hundreds of notifications overnight (BW Melee community alone has 900+ notifications) because not every Discord has a sufficient amount of mods to catch it early. | ||

Good Luck I mean all discords got hit big and small, the probably biggest ones(CPL and FBW) dealt with it by banning his alts before he did it(CPL, and even then we missed one and there are a few suspicious ones that still lay in potential wake) and FBW just has active mods 24/7 so they acted rather quickly when it happened. The dude joins with multiple accounts, invite his alts and have some being without activity for long enough to like pass any "cant post if you are new to the server" type stoppers and atleast in regards to CPL we dont really want to limit folks from joining the server or people that are new to discord since its an effort to help new people get into game/community. Same we might not want to restrict people that aint super active on discord since some people go inactive for bouts and then come back both on the coaches side or the players side. So its a bit of a conundrum. Personally I dont want to post in this thread cause I dont want to give him more attention and what has been needed to be said on the topic has been said already but I felt like I had to adress this, its not really that easy in every and all cases to deal with this without seriously impacting the ambition of some of the discords hes hitting. I dont really get why you'd want to dedicate a lot of time in making a tool for a game and then try your darnest to make the small community playing it have a bad time, must be better ways to spend your time than this and especially since practically all the servers hes hitting the people that he damages are volunteers just trying their darnest to help the community out by sheer good will and their free time. | ||

If you have admin on other servers he's spammed you might be able to collect more from the Audit Log). | ||

Add a mute period once joined the discord. Followed by a necessary answer to a question to show its not a bot. This makes bots highly inefficient if they cant spam right away after joining a discord and the bot maker having to manually work for the bots instead of the other way around. Most programmers will just give up once you make it difficult enough for bots to be fully automated. | ||

Its a free / open source tool but for reasons of staying ahead of the spammers only trusted folk are added to the GitHub. You can talk to the creator on discord to get access to Defender: TheNitesWhoSay#2110 You can join the SEN Discord if you need assistance setting it up. I invited Star Defender on NHFFA on 20/07/2022 and it has already blocked M twice (on 25/07 and 28/07). Installation was quick and easy, and with some help from TheNitesWhoSay#2110 was able to work on a 2FA activated server. How did you solve the problem of banning the user before messages are sent? Is there a unique identifier or is the spammer bot that dumb that it joins with name "nuclear launch detected"? :D Edit: Saw you mentioned the link but this cant really be a safe method. The detect/ban/delete is already all working, but as not-the-guy-who-made-the-bot, I wouldn't want to speak as if I understand from a technical standpoint how it functions. 95%+ was a guesstimate to be fair to edge cases, but every server Defender is on has reported it working and catching problems before they start. Still, knowing technology, I don't like to claim 100% efficacy especially when both sides are free to make updates/changes daily. In my layman's understanding, we have several types of detection involving user details, behavior, and messaging. (Edited at Nite's request.) Anything further would have to come from Nites rather than myself, and are not details I'd want to discuss in public view for obvious reasons. This is part of why the GitHub is not fully public as well. We have had maybe one instance of a false-positive on SEN that I know of in the months we've been running Defender, and that was solved/patched same-day. We also support Cross-Banning so once one Defender server detects a harmful user, that ban is propagated across all Defenders. Its my opinion that Defender is the best way forward for anyone getting these targeted attacks. | ||

Speaking for bwcl specifically, banning innocent people by error 5% of the time (or less) is worth it and has no consequence beyond a tiny delay, clan leaders can contact admins directly outside the server and if a clan member gets banned by mistake their leader can let us know and we d fix it. So it works well for our specific use case. That being said,I understand that it might be more problematic for cpl for instance | ||

I left it because it was annoying as hell with the spam. I also dont add much to the discord so it was for the best anyhow. Still BSL should in that case definitely have it. Kudos for the bot maker for being awesome. I would definitely want to digest the source code but im ok with not knowing if you want it hidden from the spammer | ||

If they have it installed but it isn't working they may have implemented something incorrectly. If they need assistance they can reach out to Nites or ask on SEN disc. | ||

Sure it still is not proof, but if every indication leads to him, it is really likely that he is responsible for this. I am just glad StarDefender is protecting most Discord servers by now and it seems like Discord added a feature that allows to prevent such attacks with their AutoMod feature. But I still wanted to share this, to show that it is basically confirmed that Moataz is the perpetrator of the Discord attacks. | ||
