1) Hello Mr. Cutedan. Please introduce yourself.
Cutedan: Hello to every StarCraft fan in the world!
This is Channel DanJJing, the host of DSL!!
I am very happy to meet everyone~~~~~~~~ ^^7 (I salute you all)
2) When did you start playing SC:BW?
Cutedan: Hmm, if I had to think about when I actually started, then I guess… high school?
Back then, I would spend all day talking about StarCraft with my friends while I was at school. Afterwards, when we got home, we would jump on voice chat and play SC together.
And then the next day, we would come to school and discuss the matches that we played the day before.
And that kind of lifestyle kept repeating…
Everyone, please don’t live like that. You’ll end up like me...
3) Who is your favorite progamer and team?
Cutedan: My favorite progamer is… well, personally… since my main race is Zerg, I like Zerg players: YellOw, July, Jaedong, sAviOr (motherfucker), Shine, etc. etc. I root for Zerg players mostly.
My favorite team I guess would be Samsung Khan? Stork was so awesome…
4) What race do you play and what is your best MMR?
Cutedan: My main race… is Zerg… but I’m not really good at SC… The highest MMR that I achieved was 1950, through 9 pool speed lings.
Everyone, 9 pool speed lings is as OP as vultures.
5) Do you have any favorite underrated players?
Cutedan: I’ve been agonizing over this question for about 20 minutes now… I really just can’t think of anyone…
I would like for Sharp to be successful though since he’s a personal friend.
He has a lot of love for SC, he’s passionate, he works hard, and he’s a faithful friend…
He’s a player that I am hoping a lot more people will come to like...
6) It’s a shame to not see Flash back in DSL3. Do you think Flash was scared to maybe face Best again? ^^ Also, would you like to see Rain to play in DSL?
Cutedan: My personal opinion is that because Flash is the best player in the history of SC and because of that reputation, he probably feels that he has a lot to lose by participating in online tournaments.
Even if he won the tournament, it would just be expected of him…
If he lost in the quarter-finals again then his fans would just be disappointed in him…
I feel that he probably had a lot of concerns when it came to deciding as to whether or not he was going to participate in the DSL.
As for Rain, it would be great to see him participating in the DSL if the fans wanted it. But, whether or not someone participates in a tournament is entirely up to them and I respect that.
7a) When you started DanJJing Starleague Season 1, what was your vision? Are you happy with how DSL came along and where you are now at as a BJ? You’re said to be a famous Korean BJ. Are your activities as a BJ paying off?
Cutedan: When DSL Season 1 started, it was meant to give off a very casual and friendly atmosphere. Think of friends getting together to watch a football match or a StarCraft match. The tournament’s purpose was to joke around while also communicating with the viewers more.
But people became very interested in the DSL… and a lot of people willing to help out appeared, so, how do I say this? I feel like the DSL has gotten a little overly complicated…
We already have premier tournaments like ASL, KSL, and Battle of the BJs, so I am trying to steer the DSL into a more B class/unique tournament that doesn’t require the players to be so emotionally invested.
7b) Does any of this mean that we can expect a DSL4?
Cutedan: Yes. We will come back someday with an even better form than before.
8) What do you think of BeSt’s PvZ? Assuming BeSt and Larva make it to the DSL3 finals, do you think Best could take down Footstargamer (Larva)?
Cutedan: Larva ended up advancing to the finals (laughs).
BeSt is… A player that I personally like.
And Larva plays Zerg, so… He’s a player that I’m rooting for...
BeSt has finals experience since he faced off against July in the EVER 2008 OSL finals…
Also, BeSt lost to Larva during Season 2 of DSL in the semi-finals…
I feel that BeSt has personally gone through a lot of burdensome experiences.
But BeSt absolutely is a good player, and he produces consistent results…
So I think that he is plenty capable of grabbing the championship.
Yes, this is an online tournament, but there’s just no telling as to what could happen~~~
The finals have recently been played and you can watch it here!
9) Lately you have shown a quite remarkable sense of fashion! ^^ Can we expect to see more of your awesome shirt collection?
Cutedan: Who asked this question?
Fashion must be their specialty ^^
Shirts… The truth is, wearing those shirts was not a planned wardrobe kind of thing.
I’ve gained some weight recently… So the only clothes that fit me were those kinds.
I will try to wear awesome looking clothes for the ¾ place match and the finals…
10) Where did you learn to speak French? I was told your French pronunciation is really good!
Cutedan: (laughs)... Nope, not at all…
I learned about French very briefly while I was in high school and college.
Le cinema
La musiq
...Is that… Is that correct?
11) Is it true that you rap/sing? Does that help you with your casting?
Cutedan: I have experience performing in front of people and talking in front of people…
I think those things do help me a little.
Rapping, casting, and all that revolves around talking after all.
12) Could you name some of your favorite music?
Cutedan: Beethoven’s 9th Symphony
Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2
Marilyn Manson
Kendrick Lamar
Kanye West
Ed Sheeran
Beenzino
Nucksal
13) There is a lot of talk amongst foreigners about maps. I imagine maps can really affect the quality of your league. How do you choose the maps for your leagues? Would you like to try new maps for DSL4? Is there any chance that could that be a foreigner-made-map? ^^
Cutedan: When it comes to maps, I think 51% of the tournament is defined by them.
I always think about it a lot when it comes to deciding which maps to use.
For Season 3, Transistor and Polaris Rhapsody were my choices.
The remaining final two were chosen through a voting process by the viewers and by engaging what the players thought.
But even that still wasn’t enough because the viewers still had lots of complaints.
In the end, I just don’t think that there is a way to 100% satisfy all three racial needs, all the viewers, and all the players.
I’ve been wanting to try out new maps that mapmakers make ever since Season 1… But I just don’t think it’s possible yet because the players have to spend lots of time practicing on new maps, and then they have to transfer over those practice results into actual matches… In order for me to use foreign maps or new maps made by individual mapmakers, I would either need the prize pool to become bigger, or the players will need to desire to win the championship more.
14) Are you excited or worried about the future of SC:R? Why?
Cutedan: I’m sorry, but… This… This one is a hard one to give an answer to.
15) Thank you so much for answering all these questions! Is there anything you’d like to say to your foreigner audience/fans?
Cutedan: There weren’t that many questions so I thought that this would be a short interview. But after thinking it through and writing it out… This took a really long time…
First off, I am really grateful to "Peeano dude" for doing this interview in Korean.
To all the enthusiastic StarCraft fans out there, let us come together as one culture that is devoid of religion, race, and nationality segregation. I feel that we are not just about simply liking the game or enjoying playing it. We are playing a role in bringing about world peace.
Please love StarCraft and thank you for enjoying the DSL… I want to take this moment to mention just how sincerely grateful I am.
