The fundamental difference between the two threads is there is already a product that people are playing on (that has been streamed.) However, while SB has beta testers and will need more soon TM, it just might not be on your timeline. As a side note. I have zero control or influence on who gets let into beta, but personally, if I had some say in process, I don't think I would be altogether that motivated to let harriers and hostile whiners in the early waves. As far as I can tell, we kind of need people with patience that won't mind playing on an unfinished project. Still check the thread every single day before and after work. Usually put my bad post filter goggles on and look for the relevant information. I have no problem being patient, but at the same time I am curious the demographics of who is in the beta, as well as what you guys are looking for in beta testers.

As far as requirements, I believe it was said earlier in the thread that you need to have a good enough PC to run both Brood War and Shield Battery.

The mouse cursor did not move as smoothly as it should have either.

I think it's important to note that the people complaining in this topic are a very vocal minority. There's a ton of people that are really excited for this and are keeping tabs on the progress, but understand that it's a big undertaking and that code can take a long time to write, especially while also handling defects.

Yeah, I was going to write a ranty post about how tec27 is a long time contributor, knows the domain, has done StarCraft projects before that were really interesting (I still wish RWAPlugin has caused a real RWA revival), but I just did a quick search through the thread for his name and he's done a good job for himself. No need to reiterate. It's unfortunate the effect Birdie's thread had on the trust of the community, but I believe tec27 can win a lot of people back. The StarCraft community is spoiled with continuous cool and successful projects and tools. If you weren't around for the glory age of neat tools being released all the time for StarCraft, you'll probably at least get to experience it a little with ShieldBattery. If you came to the community and Birdie Server was all you experienced from OS projects, you have really missed out on a legacy that contributed greatly to why being a part of StarCraft was so awesome. You don't get WGT, PGT, iCCup, Fish, Penguin Plug, RWAPlayer, BWChart, ChaosLauncher, APMAlert, LMRB, eAPM, SCMDraft, StarForge, XtraEdit, SCM2JPG, tonnes of AIs, that one windows explorer plugin that added a million awesome utilities for StarCraft files, Miranda chat in BW, etc etc a million other things, because the StarCraft community is full of crappy programmers who don't finish things. Lots of these projects have been crazy ambitious and still worked really well. I'm pretty sure they're not many other video game communities that enjoy such a rich collection of user made gadgets, so don't totally lose your faith because of one naive thread.

I tried to play it like I first did so many years ago. (Which involved dying over and over and over on the 3rd Terran mission) and just experience it as it is. I remember going from WarCraft 2 to StarCraft and being totally blown away by all the abilities, the graphics and the sounds. Ah the nostalgia....
