that's a good question, i've asked my self the same. Im inclined to believe the answer is yes, or at least SBENU did pay a majority. If we take into consideration OGN has made no move prior or later to do anything BW related, it seems they were not interested in putting in their own funds. Understandable, i guess.

Yeah, Sbenu did pay for everything. That was the whole deal with SSL12, Sonic didn't have time to manage the preliminary stuff like qualifiers/earlier stages and all the stuff that has to happen before OGN touches the tournament.

I like your neutron star analogy. Starcraft Broodwar survives as long as the players are there IMO. there are plenty of people to host tourneys both big and small.

Every time anything pops up in Broodwar, someone makes a "this may be the last [blank] we ever see", times they are a-changing post. I think that's how it's been for the last ten years or so. At some point, you have to move past that.

I am a bw fanatic, but it kinda feels this way to me still. Look at the crowd at the last finals: 25-26yo guys on average, plus a total lack of fangirls. Sponsors, tournaments and active ex-pros are awesome, but the key for survival is young followers, of which there are very few. I'm enjoying it while it lasts, but can't help feeling like it's the late autumn for our game. The shit Sonic got his company into and the impending leave of Bisu don't help too. What we need is Flash and Jaedong destroying the Fish server once again.
ps: does anyone know if these 2 tournaments include the next VNSL, or are they a bonus? Is the next VNSL supposed to happen?

If by some chance that next season, someone that haven't been to a Kespa final gets the champion cup, then hey that would definitely motivate younger generation to replace the old guards.
But honestly, don't really care if its the same few guys on top. As long as the games are high level enough for me to go: "Yeah there is no way I can physically execute that.", its all fine!
