as i already pointed out you have my sympathy for how this turned out XKCD and BD. It wasn't well handled to bring Tastosis in so short term and in this way. However, on the other hand you both should feel good about this, even aside from being happy that it's good for Broodwar. And the reason is this: As Caster for the an ongoing korean Starleague, you get a decent bit of exposure and by what you say some compensation for expenses. But as you both know we have a lot of people out there who contribute to BW by writing articles, Cast, do stuff in the Liquipedia or maintain playing servers with dwindling users that don't get any of that.

So while i perfectly understand your frustration and i agree you were treated in a unfair way, perhaps it's helps you knwoing you were in a lucky spot to begin with.

SC2 generation here and I'll definetly watch. Hopefully Tasteless' passion for this game makes his casting better, because the last days of GSL weren't good.

Very much support BD and XKCD's continued efforts, persistently slogging it through the trenches with casting BW in recent years even as the foreign audience has continued to shrink.

Can very much empathize with being usurped, it really is a shame how things transpired so underhandedly...

So is the VANT Starleague sponsored by Afreeca or what (besides VANT of course )? Because I don't think bringing Tastosis to cast this will do a lot in the long run. Only by bringing the stream to twitch would the foreign BW scene grow imo. They should just let BD and amazingxkcd cast this on twitch instead of bringing Tastosis to afreeca.tv if they want more english viewers.

Afreeca seems to be subsidizing the VNSL quite a bit, from providing venue and casters to the broadcasting infrastructure and marketing (heavily, all throughout the Afreeca sites), etc.

Twitch may indeed bring more viewers, but Afreeca has set its sights on expanding outside Korea, i.e. as a direct competitor to Twitch, so I don't envision them supporting BW events/casts being simul-streamed on Twitch...

Won't happen. Twitch was popular when international streaming became mainstream and at this point, they are too big to fail (despite several missteps in the past two years). Big crouds attract a lot of streamers and a lot of streamers attract big crouds. Youtube can be the only worthy competitor if they do it right but I doubt it since they have several issues (no livestreaming on Youtube allowed in Germany for example). Local livestreaming services should pander only to the local people, everything else is wasted money. I told that the nico² people but they still tried and obviously failed.

If I were BD, I'd give Afreeca the finger. Losing money you could be earning by focusing on your main job just to cast games out of passion for the game, to end up being put in a bag and tossed aside. Afreeca showing their true colours.

Anyways, if this would've happened 4 years ago, I might've (and probably would've) been excited, now I'm just wondering if they're actually going to be capable of commentating without fucking about more than usual just to cover up the lack of knowledge of the current scene and how the game's played nowadays.

Awk well, probably not going to bother watching it, as I predict the commentary to be subpar in terms of knowledge.
You look at people and you see puzzles. I see games. You? You're a game I'll win everytime.

Hopefully just a vocal minority here with the bitterness. Ridiculous reactions from some people.

Wonderful news people have been asking for for 6 years. Clearly a positive step forward for Brood War. It will surely bring back some viewers who had left long ago.

edit: But wow did Wolf seem to not remotely comprehend the importance of what Tasteless was saying during that announcement. He interrupted him to read a sign in the crowd lol.

Okay, thanks for the info. Just thought it might be possible, since the Afreeca GSL is also streamed on twitch.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Here's how I see it: we have two amazing members of the BW community who have contributed and put time in an otherwise "dead game" (as many call it). Seems to me that strengthening the existing, and die-hard, community of fans was reward in itself. But they get an even bigger reward when they finally got hired on to cast a the premier BW tournament. Now, I don't know what the terms of the contract were and all the goings-on behind-the-scenes, but I'm going to assume that they were hired to cast the entire tournament.

Then suddenly, two other guys, the "big dogs", come calling around. These are two guys who left BW for the "greener pastures" of SC2. On the other hand, it seems to be pretty clear how passionate BD/xkcd are. But the "big dogs" are, well, the "big dogs". So they unceremoniously kick out the guys they originally hired and then bring in the "big dogs" to cast the last few matches? What the hell is that? To me it seems very distasteful (tasteless, even). From a strictly business and/or professional point-of-view, it seems very unsavory. This is regardless of casting quality.

I apologize in advance if you think that that is a "ridiculous reaction".

Also, I'm not saying it's not a "positive step" for BW. But some people need to take this in stride. Will they stick around? Will they cast these last few matches and then go away again? Will the people who "return" to watch BW stick around, as well? Or are they just following the casters? On the other side, I have no doubt that BD/xkcd are going to stick around.

Exactly.
This isn't about whether or not Tasteless and/or Artosis are "traitors". It's about how they decided to "return" and how the whole thing has been handled.

finally a sensible post
not to mention a certain "big dog" has even dissed BW, on tumblr (lol) of all places, of how sc2 is more "strategically" better than BW. so i guess now hes gonna a 180 on this cast and call BW beautiful and best game of all time. superficial sellout guy through and through. bandwagon-ners will still lap it up all the same.
