keep that shit for DotA (it's stupid there, too, btw) Whats the fun for A/A+ ppl to play vs D/C? Just to ladder up their ranks raping poor newbs in 7 minutes games? The "SC points" is to give these players the opportunity to skip boring useless games.
I never said that there is any fun in A players ( all 3 of them, lol ) playing vs D players. Don't straw man me, that's not what my argument is about.
My point is obviously that I only want players to reach C or B, and even D+, the proper way. Anything else ruins the legitimacy and value of those ranks. When a new player starts playing StarCraft, he has to work his ass off to get to C-... unless he just buys the rank. And that's stupid. The rating system should be about performance in the game, not money spent on the store.
It is ridiculous that I have to explain this.

Then how do you propose iCCup funds itself? I don't see anyone donating.

+ Show Spoiler [this is for voddy] +Yeah, it is, because you give a public expression of stupidity*, which is anything like you. I'm somewhat confident that you don't even take your own statement nearly as seriously, as you make it sound, and that's the underlying problem of this whole topic, or any topic about ICCup [replace with other non-TL.net content] on this page. - players cheat their ranks all the time, either by all-in, having friends play, or share accouns. Don't hear you biching about that.
- if you skip ranks like that, it holds you back from improving, true enough. However, point above shows that the potential bias for rankings is found elsewhere, also next point:
- There are almost 0 cases for BW, in which points are bought. The main stuff is wasted on fancy icons.
- only idiots give a crap about rankings, if they truely want to improve. If you want to improve, you want equal opponents. Compare to point above, the bias is minimal.
- One of the dev guys once said, if it really becomes a problem, they'll take care of it, but w/e, developers are criminals***
**I'm so proud I learned this word***I really mean that
I don't know why I even bother writing this, I'm sure the next GGZerGish user is just around the corner, waiting to jump on me, for not being positive enough, for not shooting rainbows out of my ass, or phrased differently, not trying to get a +1 for writing how awesome the latest SoSPA tidbit is.
It's mind blowing how little TL's community thinks, or how absurd the ideas are. Where does that come from, really? In this topic Face just asked if someone could help out running what's left of the biggest foreign server - that's basically it. He has no incentive for potential workers, and he knows it, yet he tries to make due with what he has. He wants to show that, if he had a bank roll to operate with, he would give back more than a "thank you", because admins will get shit for their work (as displayed in this topic). What's then made out of the statement is:
Jidda Jadda, we're hating you for trying to provide the community with some opportunity to actually play, instead of consuming Korea.
All that store crap is an ICCup-global idea, just like TL.net's TL+ feature. Deal with it. It comes "from above", it wasn't ICCup BW team's idea, nor does that mean ICCup BW admins like it. They like the idea, that they can still manage their server in parts, organize a ladder and some tournaments. In the beginning, this entire store bullcrap was done for DotA, and only later expanded.
Before you know try to blame ICCup in general: From what I learned Ant uses the money to run the pages, the servers, and what else he has to. There's little to no stuff left to make profit off it. Yet, I'd agree, it's not a good idea, but w/e, there's no downside to it for 99,99% of the players, nor is there any evidence that buing points on ICCup is a really huge problems. Actually, I know more pissed of wannabes hating on "B- playing on D".
Seriously though, take this topic as question for help from people who like BW and actually make contributions for the game we all claim to love, not as something you should try to load your criticism off. What they can do, they do. When they can't change things, they can't. You don't have to join them, but you certainly don't have to blame them for things that weren't their idea.
I can't imagine how a interested person would few these forums: Everything related to actually playing the game is soaked in elitism of the worst kind. The game's too hard to play, the servers are shit, the admins are idiots, there are no good players, ded game, however Korean streams are fuuuun, routers are a bitch, you can't make the launchers run correctly, there are no beginners, lose 1000 games - the list of stereotypes is endless, and not even 5% of them are true.

I like what ICCup face does. He helps out the Brood War community, of which I am a part. If I wasn't so mentally unstable that I on occasion regress in to a fetal position and do nothing for a week, then I would consider becoming a ladder complaint solver.
I also think that the ICCup store is a good idea - just not the part about buying points. Edit: Or removing chat bans, lol

the game's too hard to play lose 1000 games before a win
-> you managed it, and you didn't even have enough air during your birth, so that's definitely not supporting the theory about the game.
servers are shit rounters cant be handled launchers are so-so hard to set up
-> it's never been easier to chose where to play (garena, icc, fish, vs, battle.net, ...), to get support via google or via tech savvy people (think of xboi or liquipedia). it's not much time investment, unless you were born with your mental capability
there are no beginners
-> again, tons of information out, well structured, and there were beginner tours. better environment than ever, but bitchin' bout B- on D is easier
admins are idiots
admins are and will always be idiots in the eye of the average user, for the same reason that people like to read the yellow press. Almost forgot, you can't properly read.
leaves ded game: well you can still play it, no?

You can... buy points. What the fuck.
And Face, you're acting like a complete asshole to Toast when what he is saying is completely legitimate. It's not boring for someone to get from D to A, it doesn't even take that long. You're just being a jerk when you say:

keep that shit for DotA (it's stupid there, too, btw) You should explain your point if you want to pass for someone with a minimum of brain. Coming out with such things is just for trollers.
And you shouldn't be able to remove chatban. What on earth is even the point if you can just buy away the penaly?

Why the fuck you guys are arguing about that store which existed about exactly existence of iCCup server? You guys don't have anything to argue about? Get a job& life please. We are nearly facing the end of BW but still holding on and you writing about a thing which won't provide any help for server. Accentuating attention about dumb things like points when D rank channel barely comes into 20-30 users and peak to 50?
And calling Face asshole isn't nice. I think TL should ban that guy.
So, what I suggest is to ban every whining ass here who stays out of topic. Face said he recruits admins - so the one's who wish to be admins only need to answer. Rest of - STFU for sake of BW.

truth lies in both arguments if you think about it.
On the one hand, voddy is perfectly reasonable when he claims that buying ladder points DOES to some extent devalue the worth of the ICC ranking system.
Then again, one has to put that into perpective: with the amount of players still playing and the incentive to ladder anyway going shallow, this shouldn't be a big issue. It's not like we're trying to qualify for a tournament of something. And in that case, buyed points could be counted out nonetheless. Furthermore, projecting a lot on your ladderrank is pretty futile nowaydays. I know a ton good players who could perhaps reach C+/B- but never ladder enough and i loose a ton of games "D/D+ gogo" vs far better players. Im not complaining about having better opponents, but it means it warps the rank i can achieve in a season. Well on the other hand i play a lot of guys who go 3 sunks before pool, so it might equal out.
Point is: the server is empty, so we should focus on the positive or
play more, chatcraft less. Do more stuff, watch less streams. Make fewer grudgematch threads, play more grudgematches. This community needs to stop talking over the game and play the game. Complain less, become ICC staff member
