온게임넷은 블리자드 엔터테인먼트(Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. www.blizzard.co.kr)의 스타크래프트 부르드워(StarCraft®: Brood War™)로 진행되는 게임리그인 스베누 스타리그 시즌 2가 오는 5월 17일 (일) 저녁7시 ‘챌린지데이’를 시작으로 열전에 돌입한다고 금일 밝혔다.
온게임넷이 주관하고 신발 및 패션 브랜드 스베누(SBENU)가 후원하는 스베누 스타리그 시즌 2는 스타크래프트 부르드워 기반의 e스포츠 리그로 아프리카tv에서 게임전문 BJ로 활동하다 패션 브랜드 ‘스베누’의 CEO로 변신한 ‘소닉’ 황효진 CEO가 후원을 결정하며 많은 게임 팬들의 환호를 이끌어낸 바 있다.
시즌 1 결승전 당시 황효진 CEO는 시즌 2의 개최를 언급한 바 있으며, 3개월의 준비 기간을 거쳐 다시 한 번 온게임넷과 리그를 진행하게 되면서 팬들과의 약속을 지켰다.
이번 챌린지데이에는 총 24명의 선수가 출전해 듀얼 토너먼트 진출자 12명을 가리게 된다.
주요 참가 선수로는 ‘염선생’ 염보성(테란), ‘여제’ 서지수(테란), ‘광전사’ 변형태(테란), ‘승부사’ 한상봉(저그), 전태규(프로토스) 등으로, 선수들은 A, B, C 총 3개 조로 나뉘어 3판 2선승 경기를 치르게 되며 각 조별 매치업에서 승리하는 선수들은 바로 다음 라운드인 듀얼 토너먼트에 진출하게 된다.
중계는 각 조별 경기 중 선택 중계하는 방식으로 진행되며, 현장 관람을 원하는 관객들은 경기 당일 현장에 방문하면 선착순으로 무료관람이 가능하다.
한편 챌린지데이에 이에 앞서 오후 4시부터는 C조에 편성될 선수 3명을 가리는 오프라인 예선이 치러진다. 그리고 챌린지 데이를 넘어선 선수들은 오는 24일부터 진행되는 듀얼 토너먼트에서 윤용태, 박세정을 비롯한 지난 시즌 16강 진출자들과 ‘택신’ 김택용, '불사조' 김정우 등 강자들을 상대하게 된다.
방송은 온게임넷을 비롯해 온라인 다음 tv팟에서도 시청할 수 있으며, 대회와 관련된 자세한 내용은 온게임넷 홈페이지(www.ongamenet.com)에서 확인할 수 있다.

I'm not familiar with when/how previous OSL player introduction/group ceremonies were conducted, but seeing how the Challenge Day qualifier is held this Sunday, it looks like there won't be much of an opportunity for the pomp and circumstance beforehand -- i.e. no opportunity for the 12 losers...
Hopefully there will be some pageantry prior to the group stage

Very true, but seeing how the post-KeSPA stats cover the relevant SSL11 players, it's more representative of the times.
Maybe Jaedong, EffOrt, Soulkey and other strong ZvT players skewed things the other way during KeSPA era...but with the current crop of players, it is what it is

i will touch upon the fact that terrans are the more superior players right now in the post-kespa era. in fact, through the games ive watched, zergs have been extremely unimpressive in their TvZ matchup (albeit TvZ is inherently favoring terrans). but a zerg with good ZvT hasnt shown anything yet to me. i watched the good zergs like ZerO and EffOrt get absolutely crushed by mong, last, sea just to name the matchups i've had a chance to cast so far.
