I hope it continues, not only because I enjoy watching it, but also because I believe BW is THAT good. I firmly believe that a good enough game is timeless, regardless of whether it is physical or electronic and it's validating to see BW and the community demonstrating that.

BW is on an upswing again and Afreeca wants to use this to market their platform I guess. A smaller game on an upswing might get more sponsorship interest than a bigger game on a downswing. In late KeSPA-BW period when SC2 was getting those big sponsorships for GSL or IM with their LG deal etc. BW was still much bigger, but at that time SC2 was the one on the upswing while BW was on the downswing. But maybe I'm talking bs anyway, it's just my assumption that things roughly worked like this.

And I thought it was weird that Afreeca would sponsor their own BW league that is NOT a sonic league even though sonic is a partnered streamer who already brings in the BW viewers and has continued to show the potential that BW has. But I think i'm just being dumb. nothing wrong with having 2 huge prize pool bw tourneys

I haven't been able to catch the streams and stuff as much recently, the SSL and this league would be absolutely perfect to fill that slot of high priority viewership (where in the past I would watch all proleague/MSL/OSL as best I could, but this would be like the times of just catching MSL/OSL). And Bisu sayed he wont some Time off, he will get his rest until all this Tournaments happen. It would be idiotic to throw away a seed into the next Tournament. After all this was just a blunt statement from him.

After all this was just a blunt statement from him. they probably acquired one. Sonic has been getting a license for any tourney above a certain prize pool threshold. And regarding Bisu while he did say in his DES interview that he wants some time to rest (possible hinting at army?) lately he's been streaming and playing quite often. It's almost as if his pride is hurt from losing to the other players in sponsor matches and his competitive spirit is being rekindled +_+ lol

I'm sure if the incentives are there, Bisu will change his mind and devote a lot of time to practicing for and competing in this Afreeca league. I mean, around $30k USD prize is a lot of money compared to what he can get from SSL.

I suspect they add a bit of number to make it even then tax that amount since blizzard seems to tax more than anyone else.

Shows in big esports today, yo? Compare broodwar S pros to the top teams of LoL. I see the exact opposite of that conclusion.

LoL is growing heavily but it's definitely not as big yet as BW was at the peak, so it's too early to conclude anyway. ![]()

It really depends on which side you're looking at, this is why the reports can differ without being false. I think PC-bang wise LoL is probably the most dominant game ever (?) or at least it's not unreasonable to assume that it's more played than BW was. It dominates PC-ratings ridiculously. On the eSports side it still grows quickly, but definitely needs some more time, just as BW needed. It has definitely not reached that state that BW had at its golden peak yet.
