I don't think this is a paid gig. They said the reward is that they will make a video to commemorate the winner of the competition. Most likely this competition acts as a round of tryouts in case they need casters for future events.

Probably, I assume that these don't have to be done live? I mean it says that you mustn't miss any, but it doesn't actually say anything about live casting
I'm vaguely interested in doing this, but it would be useful to know the full schedule of games beforehand. Also, does this mean that any English casting of these games aside from this official VOD one is not allowed?

Kind of a short game. They should have picked a longer game imho.
They have to watch each submission. Keep that in mind.
True... but I don't think you can tell that much from a caster such a short game. Hopefully (at least for Sayle) they look at his channel and the fact that he has worked with TeamLiquid (Which they obviously recognize for SC2) and go like this guy is legit. If Sayle's vague interest comes to fruition that is :D
On February 08 2014 00:10 hellokitty[hk] wrote: SNM???
I know it's a different game, but SNM bombed pretty hard as an SC2 proleague caster and got fired, and the SC2 scene kind of hates him personally as well. There's a potentially very big set of foreign SC2 fans and exfans looking for a new RTS (see: Starbow), that are potential new BW fans but wouldn't watch with SNM casting it :\
I know, I know, screw those people, but if S4 has Tasteless/Artosis or the like and goes really well, we could end up with a few hundred new people on ICCUP playing BW (twice as many if a Terran wins), and that's really good.
On February 08 2014 00:45 malady wrote: wow I thought tasteless would of have done it.
doesn't seem like he has a big workload
Looks like it might not be a paid gig and Tasteless no longer works for free.
Well, winner of this isn't the official caster for S4. I think they want Tasteless/Artosis to cast the trial season, and then get a dedicated community BW caster if they decide to pick it up full time.

also bisudagger
I was going to cast this event before this competition was announced only because Sayle was doing the SSL. I guess now we have to take our gloves off and fight over it.
I wonder who is "grading" these? I would expect enthusiasm and articulation to be better than actual BW knowledge itself if the graders are not that great at English.
It's not just you KDot2. For me this also feels crummy. I was really hoping for Tastosis to do this. Maybe Day9 or some other people who did the SC1 TSLs.
At first I thought 'wow, so we're going to get some guy casting from his room?' but I realised that actually that's where all the casts I liked started. It's more that the list of casters I've liked in BW is short... Klazart, everyone in TSL (who were almost uniformly top players), and Manifesto7. These casters all had a lot of reverence for the players, and could do some justice to them, so I always enjoyed them.
I hope that they will find two or three good casters and link them together for a group effort. I think they must be doing this because of a scheduling conflict, or maybe they just can't even pay for one of the big names with this tourney. It's definitely a little foreboding.
I think strategically that broadcasting bw again is a win win situation for GOMTV, since there is still many viewers they will get a filled up studio and maybe kind of revive bw again to it's former days. If it's a huge success we might see more leagues coming up and possibly OGN because they see it's passion for it and they're passionate about it . Just a thought
hmh i think this announcement sounds like Gomtv isnt going to provide an english cast, which is a pity. While its a nice idea to make a contest for casters, who want to cast the vods, i won't apply mainly because im not sure if i can dedicate enough time. But i don't like to deliver work as a fan for free for profit based companies. Furthermore i have the feeling Gomtv will be quite demanding in its standards :>
Oh, i just saw bisudagger was into this as well. Although sayle is still my favourite, i don't mind bisudagger casting at all. (or how serious was that post previous page? :O)

Well, gl to all who apply though.
It targets more Englishy sites like Youtube and Twitch so I'm not sure.

I don't have time for this at the moment, plus my passion lies somewhere else.
I don't think she will be casting the games though since she is working for esgn right now in korea which mostly cover e-sport news. Tasteless also haven't stated in any of the bw streams he will be casting for gom classic.
I was really hoping Tasteless would continue this series , if not him, Sayle plz do this. Everyone is so used to your good casts I don't see someone else doing this atm. Maybe this is audition for Tasteless' co-commentator. Tasteless & Sayle, now that would be a treat
I have no interest in casting it, but I'm kind of tempted to try so I can walk around with a huge throbbing epeen if I won. hopefully whoever they pick is actually some one from BW and not just an SC2 caster who gets picked because their channel has 10X the views.
edit: can someone link the vod so I (and others) don't have to sign up for an account to see what game it is?

It's set 2 of the GOMTV Classic Season 1 finals (Jaedong vs Flash).
On February 12 2014 01:50 quirinus wrote: So, the winner can cast live or from VODs, at will? Or just from VODs?
The contest implies that it will only be VODs. I'm hoping this is just because they don't want to exclude potential casters who are interested but aren't able to do a live stream and that they'll allow an english live cast if asked.

I wanna apply but theres no chance i would be able to do it live, so thats good news... dunno if ill be able to do it at all, but its worth a shot, since i find it enjoyable to cast.

Additionally
VODs will be provided to the casters on the next day of each match day, and the casters should add their comments and send them to GOM eXP.
They mentioned "casters" so I may not be the only one? Either way I'm excited as hell!

lol wtf I won too, but they didn't recommend us to dual cast or anything? Are they expecting us to both do VODs seperately or what?
What are the chances they just sent a winning e-mail to every caster who applied just to make sure they got a plentiful supply of English VODs.
Reward and penalty - Make a special video for the personal who does a remarkable job with all 5 weeks of GOMTV Classic S4 VODs. - If you miss any, you will be disqualified for the rest.
In fact, this does imply that they expect multiple casters to do the same VODs for them and they pick the best ones each week. In which case I don't understand the point of the tryout at all.
Pretty sad considering BisuDagger and I would have gladly done all the work for free regardless. Now between this and the "only viewable on your phone" clusterfuck, I don't really want to do this any more.

This is like that moment where you put your name in a box to win a cruise and everyone in the box won. Other possibilities include the whole season could be a competition among us and the winner get ownership of GomTV. The whole thing is kind of weird now if our vods might not even get selected to be viewed by the public. I was really excited for this :/
Gom exp android app will be the one and only broadcast platform for the tournament, and otherwise, fans need to watch VODs which will be uploaded three days later.

But Sayle, what's with "only viewable on your phone"? did i miss something? Will this only be streamed fitting for smartphone apps or what?
I guess it's true, In BW everyone wins. I think the worst part is if our vod isn't selected we can't post it on our channel for viewing. So wasted time basically.

damn your fast, i just saw it myself. thx anyway.
Well, that really sucks and i have no idea, why they would do it. Anyway i think people would enjoy english casts fo this event still yet.
I think the way they've done the caster thing is cool. It means everyone who entered is allowed to legally make their own vods which not only gives it more exposure but means everyone who entered can have fun doing it and it's not just linked to one or two people. I mean Sayle I like you but there's others who want to cast too :p (note: I didn't enter since I have no interest in doing it).

Except it's heavily implied that they will only pick the best casted VOD from each week to publish as the official one. Which means if 5 people cast a game, only one of those will be published and the other four people wasted their time because the 'winners' email specifically said you're not allowed to upload the VOD anywhere due to copyright. I'm not mad because they won't pick an exclusive caster. I'm mad because they didn't even bother telling casters in the winners email that other people would also be casting. Could you imagine if there are some casters out there who don't really check TL and don't know about this situation, so they spend lots of hours preparing and casting thinking they're the main caster for this event and then none of their VODs even get published.
On February 16 2014 20:27 thezanursic wrote: This is a trial thing. Pretty sure they will be more exclusive next season.
This seems doubtful. From a business/organizational perspective, I can completely understand what they're doing. The foreign scene is small and amateur casters are likely to be unreliable. So, they want to get as many people commentating games in English as possible so when a few of them inevitably flake out, they will still have some English content to post. Foreign interest in BW isn't high enough to justify actually hiring a proper caster, so this sort of scattershot "I hope someone does all this free work for me" approach is the best business wise.

There's also the "Reward - Make a special video for the personal who does a remarkable job with all 5 weeks..."
Wouldn't be too surprised if they pick someone for 4 or 3 days and someone else for 2 days just so that they don't have to do any extra work.

Well I missed that part, that seems incredibly stupid.
so, now is somebody going to cast those vods? Because if not, im going to watch the thing on Terrors twitch now
€: i understand that you guys are unhappy with the caster situation, here is what i would do: given that i believe all "winners" for the cast use this forum: just decide for yourself who is gonna cast when, so nobody has to do a cast that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Take turns and let everybody cast, then start with the first caster again. Gomtv can't do shit about it, since they rely on foreign casters for the english vods and have no way of punishing that behaviour. Of course no one would be rewarded with the "special video", but really? who cares.

they can't reject it if all casters cast together lol. The award isn't that big of a deal
So according to whiplash's post to me on facebook, they did not accept everyone because he wasn't accepted. And no one else besides Sayle and I have actually confirmed we got accepted in this thread unless I missed other posts.

how is casting an insult? lol. Genuinely curious
It was basically shortly after SCII's announce that hundreds of German newbs came to the page. Bw.de is like a sworn community in their communtiy forums, there are dozens who never played BW but came through the ingame.de network. This community has its own rules, slang, traditions and such. There's a forum called "off topic" reserved for massive bullshit, it has no post counter and a very lax moderation in contrast to the rest of the page.
For an outsider it reads really harsh, even though it's basically only trash talk. So, off the hundreds of SCII maniacs some more "motivated" youngsters joined the bw.de staff and tried to cover SCII things EVERYWHERE on the page. And they eventually found their way into the Off Topic and community forums. It was a fight between generations. In the community forums there were topics about this and that, where students and already working people discussed stuff, and suddenly there were dozens of completely teenage-angst topics, or uneducated 13-year-old wall of texts. This was kind of annoying. Eventually, some of the young newbs dared to enter the realms of the Off Topic Forums. They completely did not understand how it worked. Most of the more persisting newbs happened to be "SCII Casters" - now categorized as casters for short, the idiots of the forums.
Don't get me wrong it reads worse than it is, but it's still an established term to flame the staff people in the Off Topic whenever you want. Just say "gtfo caster" or something.
