Sonic has secured main sponsorship for the first season of the "official" Sonic Proleague! The sponsor Gabangpop was announced on February 3rd on the opening day of the league, which is played online.
As for team sponsorship, currently 5 out of the 8 teams have obtained sponsors and are taking on new names.
Great news!! So Sonic is sponsoring 2 teams? Also it's a shame having that nice studio rented and doing the matches online. I guess not all players are constantly showered with balloons like bisu and have tight schedules. So pumped to see how this works out.

Yeah... I think it's nice to see that the team will have 8 leagues, but I'd prefer 6 teams and have it online (More players per team, less teams, easier to schedule for offline and less chance of WO). 1 or maybe 2 matches a week and have it played online.
It's great that a few more sponsors have been picked up. Obviously the ultimate aim would be to have enough money and commitment from the sponsors to have the games offline, training houses and the players fully pro again. But that’s a fair way off yet. It’s just great that everything is moving in the right direction for now. I look forward to seeing more great games.
Dat commentary lineup. So Moodslook = online clothing store Gabangpop = online store Commanwang = PC maker Sonic sponsoring two teams isn't too bad I guess since he's getting exposure too. But I really hate how Sonic holds off sponsor announcements.
Seriously, we're just in January of 2014 and we're already jam packed with BW content. I'm afraid to say there's almost too much BW content lol

BW 2.0 will produce more content than you ever imagined.

Atm there's literally 0 information about online/offline (unless I'm missing something), so it's just mine and other people's assumptions that it's mostly going to be online with perhaps the finals offline in the studio.

Moodslook - CJ Gabangpop - KHAN Commawang - MBC SinbalFarm - Hwaseung SBENU - SKT

from what sonic said about sonic pl a while back he said it would be an online thing he can do through the week and then have offline SSL on thurs sat. Having a proleague offline would be quite difficult with all the players scattered throughout parts of korea. I'm hoping the casters are all at sonic's studio though it would be totally cool if the finals could be offline though
Remember folks that one year ago we can't even fathom the possibility of BW being competitively played in an offline setting and now we are witnessing it first handily. We should have full confidence of continuous growth of this industry and that PL will eventually develop into similar mold.
What makes it a proleague though? Are the players professional only (the good ol' you have to go through Courage and earn your professional certificate)?

Aren't lots of the players already nearby due to SSL9?

No they commute to sonic's studio in Seoul for the ssl9 days. Pusan used to live in Busan and he said it was like a 2 hour subway to get to seoul so a lot of the times he would stay at starcue's house after the event since by then the subway lines close. There are quite a few of the players who live nearby but there are still some that live sort of farther away.
On top of that they aren't technically pros atm if they have schedule conflicts they won't have the time to make it. It's just too much of a hassle to have the whole thing offline. Would be really cool to have like the playoffs or just the finals offline though!

I've never thought of Brood War as a religion, lol Didn't realize I had one But at least it's better than any of the alternatives, if I have to pick one

Team league is the only thing that's been (kind of) missing so far. SPL is what turned me into a regular BW viewer, and it's going to do the same again! xD
What is happening to BW is just fucking crazy. It defies all odds, all trends. It's just fucking nuts. I remember just a couple years ago when "BW revival" was thrown around in threads like a joke .... adn now here we are ..... unbelieviable !
And it's all about one dude and it's passion for the game and perseverance. If it wasn't for sonic BW could have been dead a buried for good.
Good news to see a PL going on even if online. It's a step in the right direction and 5 of 8 sponsors is great as well! Gabangpop though lol.

What other game hasn't been updated for like 12 years except new maps and has had such a great history only to fade away and then rise backup like this, the level of dedication of a few people in this subforum and especially by Sonic and a few of the Korean casters is just complete nuts and so amazing.
I truly cannot thank you that stood by in the darkest days, I truly need to start hardcore training to atleast achieve c- again
The last addition was announced today. All I know about SalDaGa is that according to this source, he was on SKT (the pic isn't him, just the table of players) and that he's (been) on WHITE.
No jangbi >_> no streams ever either.
Also, the first match (SKT vs MBC) was changed to the next week and replaced by KT vs CJ.
I just noticed, there isn't a team that looks super weak to me. SKT looks perhaps a bit stronger than the others, but I feel like every team could win.
KT looks WAY better than before with Mind and Modesty jumping on.
Woongjin seems like the weakest of the ex pro teams. As much as I love piano, he wont beat ace protoss or terrans and Zero isn't back to his best yet. SKT, MBC, and CJ are the strongest imo but the other teams have good rosters as well.
Weeks 1-3 are in the calendar now, but just week 1 has already been adjusted drastically 3 times, so keep that in mind and try to check constantly :/ Schedule changes will be announced here + edited in the calendar asap.
sonic usually contacts everyone day of the events and makes sure they are available. When they have sudden schedule changes you see a lot of those sonic schedule changes where he just completely flips stuff last moment lol. but since all the participants are in the same time zone and are contacted before hand there shouldn't be any walkovers.
If someone makes a LR thread, make it for whole week imo. There's not enough interest to make new LR for each clan war, so lets just have one LR per week (3 CWs).
There is some Sonic event running now, dunno if it's related to SPL or not. Sponsor of event is "memorette". And as usual afreeca starts lagging during Sonic events...

It would be nice. I'm not sure if anybody else works on this.
I'm definitely not, cuz I have enough clicking for my carpal hands as it is, so if anyone wants to do it go ahead. I'll be happy to help if there's anything unclear. Same goes for SSL9 btw.

My hands are already aching so I'll stick to the SPL I think . I'll spend some time in the next week or so learning how to use liquipedia and then create+maintain all the pages for SPL there as well if nobody else is going to do it.
