I don't wanna shit on people who like Quake, or say that it isn't fun to watch for people who like it, or that maybe in some other circumstances it could have been as popular as that Korean FPS that got TV time, but I don't think id software deserves to get shit on for not running high quality Quake tournies anymore... I can hardly think of any game devs nicer than id software.

From reading both your posts, it seems that you both agree that Blizzard cares about esports but in his case, he believes it's a better thing than id since at least they are trying to promote SCII even if it has COI and its for money but you believe that it's better that Blizzard doesn't intervene for those same reasons. I have to agree with you on this one. Blizzard's involvement in SCII was much better prior to WCS induction. Much preferred having GSL on its own with other tourneys and keeping it that way(with maybe an extra tournament in AM with good prize money). I guess it's like BW. No blizzard involvement, have OSL/MSL and PL, just the right amount and keep interest in the players/scene ![]()

A random person can watch 20 minutes and feel like they've gotten all they can get out of it. The variety in it is too subtle for a casual player, even those who played a bit of Quake back in the day. You can't simultaneously say the game is dying because there's too many casual players not smart enough for it and that it's an easy game to get into and watch at the same time. If it's all relative, then Quake having good spectator value means BW had god-like spectator value ;p I think even BW was just 'pretty good.' BW could make people who only played casually watch it and want to play more or at least see more. Quake I think you already had to be a decent player to get anything out of it. Did you ever meet anyone who watched hours and hours of Quake but was the equivalent of D- in BW? Hi, I'm someone who watched hours and hours of Quake (Q3, QL, Q4) since 2004 but was not good at all in Quake. I also think it is an awesome game to spectate, I'd say it's easier for a beginner spectator to understand than appreciate than an RTS game. RTS games in turn are more spectacular to watch (cool battles between big armies) and easier to understand than MOBAs but it hasn't prevented LoL from stomping them completely. Whether a game is good spectator wise definitely does not guarantee anything about it's popularity, to suggest such a thing seems completely absurd as there are infinitely more factors that make a game popular.

I agree with you in a point. It was easier to me to "get" SC2 than it is with LOL or DOTA. Maybe im just dumb :-P, maybe not.

Chef: Blizzard does, but only SC2. Masterofpuppets: They do, if you want to see a company who doesn't give a shit about esports, Id. Chef: Not really Id's fault for killing quake, it's not their job to keep quake alive it's the community's. At least they didn't actively sabotage the quake scene. Masterofpuppets: At least blizzard killed BW to promote SC2, Id is shitting all over quake for no discernable reason. Chef (and everyone else who liked BW): I think we liked it better when blizzard didn't give a shit (basically anytime before SC2 was about to come out), we didn't need them to build the BW esports scene, we just need them not to be assholes. I think that pretty much sums it up. Basically screw Id, they don't give a shit about esports. Screw Blizzard, if only they didn't care about esports.

Jangbi's probably just too tired to grind back into champion shape again, even though he was making headway.
