This week will be the final week to vote! If you haven't registered yet, go for it! It's free and very simple!
NOTE: This was without a doubt, the most difficult thing I have ever translated. The language was far too advanced for my current level. As a result, it has tons of errors. Please, if you are more fluent in Korean than me, point out the errors I made. I desperately need someone to proof read this.
In commemoration of the conclusion of StarCraft Brood War, the eSports corporation will be establishing an 'e-Sports Hall of Fame'.
The 'e-sports Hall of Fame' will commemorate the many progamers who acquired many achievements and plant the players' honor and self-esteem along with enchancing their images in a hall that will uplift them.
The 'e-Sports Hall of Fame - StaCraft Brood War' will commence with the conclusion of the SKPlanet StarCraft ProLeague Season 2 and celebrate all the past BW tournaments in StarCraft history and illuminate the players who participated in them.
The screening of the Hall of Fame will induct the players in to the Hall of Fame and they will be presented with certificates and prizes. Furthermore, if the eSports stadium gets established, the Hall of Fame memorial will feature the gamers' past uniforms and mouses should they choose to donate them.
The Hall of Fame will feature three sections. The primary will be If a player won a second place or higher in any of the tournaments since 1999, or if they stayed within the top 10 ranking for ProLeague for 3 years, then they will be selected as a StarCraft Brood War candidate.
Of the 51 players candidates selected, the secondary fan voting will begin. Individually the candidates will be voted for by the fans. If a candidate recieves 60% of approval from the majority a third judgement will occur. The media and commentators will be the jury for who gets to make the 'Hall of Fame' or not.
The voting for these 51 candidates will commence from August 15th to September 9th. You can vote for these players at www.e-sports.or.kr. If you vote for the players, you will be entered in to a drawing for a chance to win a StarCraft2 WoL Package CD and tickets for the ProLeague grand finals.

You will then arrive here. You should be able to take it from here, just click on "Foreigner(Overseas)". Then the bottom half will disappear. You will then see a box to check towards the bottom. Check it, then click "PROCEED TO NEXT STAGE".
Return to the default home page. Towards the middle of the screen you will see two tabs. Click the right one. NOTE: If you did not register, you cannot vote.
Once you arrive here, you are ready to vote. Click on the blue bar if you think that person deserves to be a candidate. Click on the red bar if you disagree. The middle white box above the blue and red bar is a profile page about the player but it's entirely in Korean.
I actually voted myself so I can confirm this:
You no longer just get one vote. you can vote for all your favorites now
They should have given BoxeR an instant invitation to the Hall of Fame after all he did for SC:BW but I think it's obvious that the bonjwas will be in the Hall for sure aswell as YellOw, Bisu, Stork etc.
bonjwas + whole kong line + any player decorated with gold more than once, are no-brainers. There are many others who are remembered as the best of the best.
The problem starts with the players like Mind (yes, I know he have one gold) or Calm, who overperfored in individuals OR underperformed in PL.

There's a reason why Pete Rose is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Match fixers/cheaters lose all privileges they have as progamers/players both past and present.

It isn't silly when you realize the matchfixers have been permanently banned from KeSPA, just like Pete Rose has been from the MLB. This naturally includes a ban from any and all recognition that would be officially sanctioned by the respective organization.

Tell me something I didn't know already. Another useless reply.
Things such as hall of fames are/should be based on the capabilities of a player + achievements, regardless of what he did, he should still be up there. They can try and enforce a ban from "any and all recognition" but there's a reason why people, including myself actually, still admire him as a player. So it's really just silly to suddenly say "oh wai- the guy did something bad so everything he's won in the past is suddenly just.. non-existant", it's just silly, nothing more nothing less. Though when I look at it from kespa's pov I sure can understand but that doesn't change my own opinion 'bout it.
This is awesome, I've been hoping someone does this for years. There is actually some kind of Video Game Hall of Fame organized by the competitive arcade community but for whatever reason they don't recognize Korean stuff.
Thinking there is any reason to even consider savior here is hilarious to the point of absurdity so can we just agree to not derail the thread too much with it? Let's argue about all the dudes who were really hot for one season then never did anything for the rest of their careers. Or guys like Sea who owned proleague but sucked in OSL.

Comparing players who've been hot for one season with Ma Bonjwa and denying what he was capable of + what he truly did achieve in bw is what's truly hilarious.
But please, do keep me entertained.
Haters, you've got to love them, especially when they try to deny that what cannot be denied.

I'm kind of serious and kind of not. After all he was arguably the best foreign player in the world, but was he really comparable to people like Boxer, Flash, or JD? Definitely not. So Day9 is arguable.
Apart from most of the Proleague-only Zerg lineup, by my counts they ALL deserve it! Sucks you have to register to vote, I don't believe in democracy enough that mine'll count \:
Guys, Would you like me to add in a tutorial on how to register as well? There's an option for foreigners living overseas, and once you click on that, the entire registration process is in English.

Yeah saying Day9 was ever in contention for best foreigner is a bit odd, especially if we're going to do it by all-time which would include a handful of guys who competed in Proleague.

It's weird seeing Kwanro next to names like that @_@.
Most sports hall of fames have a minimum and maximum of how many can make it in each year, but I didn't read how many can be inducted for this. Personally I'm hopingt the amount selected is quite small, perhaps only 4-5 people each year.

On August 15 2012 11:41 JohnBall wrote: Savior deserves a spot on the Hall of Fame. And a pretty big spot at that.
Alright, let me put it for you this way.
Here is a - rather small, might I add, as a Reds fan - list of one Pete Rose's accomplishments in the biggest of the big leagues for baseball, Major League Baseball. However, this is a man who placed bets on games in the sport in which he competed. Some of which were for and against his own team, of which he was a manager at the time.
Sound vaguely familiar to what we're dealing with with Savior?
Anyways - Pete Rose has been banned from baseball. Shunned completely, baseball-wise, by damn near everyone outside of the Cincinnati area. He has no shot to get in the Hall of Fame - banned from it, even with the statistics that he racked up. It's been over 20 years - multiple different commissioners have said at multiple different times there is no chance for reinstatement.
Pete Rose and Ma Jae Yoon both compromised the integrity of the game, the sport of it - for personal gain. They are both banned for good reasons. Even around my parts of central Ohio, people who think Pete Rose deserves reinstatement are in the vocal minority. Savior - and all others involved in the scandal - should continue to be banned from all KeSPA events, shrines, etc.
Like Pete Rose, there exists footage of Savior winning games. Dominating. Feel free to watch them and appreciate them for the brilliance and skill for a game that at one point...belonged to him. Just don't pretend for a moment that the man behind the keyboard is a different person than the man who could have singlehandedly brought down esports as we know it.

His play deserves a spot, but they shouldn't give him one. It'll cause way more problems from angry fans and whatnot than it would do good. And the person plays a role in whether they deserve a spot or not, and while his play deserves a spot, Savior does not. He is/was my favorite Zerg player of all time, but I understand why they aren't giving him a spot. Anyway, I think this discussion is kind of pointless. He's not going to be there and the reasons are obvious as to why; I can't see this going anywhere but "I'm right" "No, I'm right!"
I'm more interested in hearing exactly how many people are going to make it in, there are just so many names on that list that just HAVE to be in the hall of fame.

Yeah, fair enough. Putting him in there will only do harm in all likelihood.
I'm sort of sad not all the recommended players can be in the hall of fame...I mean, why not just have all of them be in it? >.<
Furthermore, if the eSports stadium gets established, the Hall of Fame memorial will feature the gamers' past uniforms and mouses should they choose to donate them.
Are they building a new esports stadium?
Even if they don't induct matchfixers into the Hall of Fame. They can build a section in it telling the matchfixing story in bw's history. IMO, they should just build a bw museum, highlighting all the different eras of bw.
I wish FBH was on the list. So many good candidates, I'm torn as to who to vote for. While I love Midas, Kingdom, and Garimto, for the first inductions I might have to choose between The Magician, The Mantoss, or The Emperor. And no, Savior doesn't deserve recognition for his accomplishments anymore(his games are still good to watch if you like tho); he threw that away himself when he decided money was worth more than his own (and BW's) reputation and integrity.

Yeah with like computer displaying the cool games too.
And I heard that BW progamming started with a table tennis table, bring that table in!
At least Pete Rose bet on his own team. Savior lost for petty bananas and strong-armed schmucks like Hwasin to throw more games because they "owed him." Turns out his little scheme hit roadblocks, as many other players were throwing games on their own terms. Even funnier when two game-throwers got matched (Yarnc vs Hwasin, Lux vs Hwasin, UpMagic vs Savior).
But should Savior at least be eligible for votes? I kind of think so.

My vote is for Jangbi
So the fact that a lot of sponsors pulled out from the scene because of the match-fixing, which was one of the major reasons for BW's end doesn't matter?
My minimum criteria would be players who won at least 2 individual leagues (Flash, NaDa, Jaedong, iloveoov, Bisu, July, BoxeR, ,GARIMTO, NalrA, JangBi), was the #1 ranked player of his race for over a year (YellOw, Reach, Stork) or held the #1 overall Kespa rank at any time (ChoJJa, Fantasy). I presume the warning up top is regarding sAviOr so I won't get into that.
You cannot just separate Savior's play & achievements from his transgressions. Wherever that name goes, everything he has done, including all of the wrongdoings, go with it. To include him, or anyone involved in the match fixing fiasco, will irrevocably taint the list.
I hope that Boxer is the first put up, as he should be imo
Yes Savior should be there, but its just such a shame that he fucked it all up, make me so sad to think about what he would be thinking now that things have ended and there is this hall of fame, and even though he was so good, none of it matters and he will forever have to live in the shadows.
Hall of fame is a great idea to honor the previous greats I don't think that this should be a fan vote... I think it should be decided by a qualified committee who look at various aspects of the candidates careers
I wonder whether there any plans to extend this "eSports Hall of Fame" to other older games apart from Broodwar, would be quite disappointing if it were not so considering its name.
Regardless, I hope Boxer wins his category. There might be tons of players that are much better than him right now, in bw as well as sc2, however if I understood it correctly he was the main reason why Airforce ACE exists and that is a feat that nobody could ever hope to top.

I'm of the belief it's actually the other way around. If you want it to be a TRUE eSports "Hall of Fame" you need to be able to separate his transgressions from his play.
You may not like the things he did outside the game, and you may not think he's a good person, but he did irrevocably change the way Brood War was played, and he was a DOMINATING player in his prime. I'm of the opinion that leaving him out when he's such a pivotal figure in the GAMEPLAY of Brood War would taint the list.
Voted for Grrr.... he won the first OSL and was the only foreigner to I think ever win a big korean tournament. 2nd would be bisu, and its a natural that boxer will win.

Typically a Hall of Fame is established to celebrate the career, contributions and legacy of players. This whole debate can be easily settled with one question: what is savior's legacy?

I think the evolution of modern Zerg play belongs in part to sAviOr, that's legacy enough alone for Hall of Fame contention.
If not, how about the entire stretch of time he turned professional play upside down singlehandedly with his ZvT?

Only one Hall of Fame in US Major Sports has ever overtly kept a player out for off-field transgressions (MLB - Rose and the Steroid Era). Other HoFs appropriate understand that the HoF is for player contributions on the field, not off the field. Writers admit that it's hard to completely separate the two (it's hard to vote for a jackass) but there are serious attempts to separate the two.
In this HoF's case there's a comical attempt to exclude Savior, but in response they will omit one of the biggest names in favor of a bunch of scrubs who have no business being in such a club. Sure, omit him. But omit all these mediocre players, too. But no, that's not the path they're taking. So what's the point of it?
I was wondering myself why the-one-who-shall-not-be-named is not part of the HoF...but after reading a bit of the comments here, maybe its too early for Voldemort :p , more time has to elapse till the people of the HoF will be able to differentiate his action on and off the game...so i think in a couple of years Savior will be joining the squad of skilled heroes.
And this Hall of Fame is a really good idea, as its establish esport as a kind of sport, to retain and express the history.

It's hilarious to think that you consider guys like Casy, GoRush and many others scrubs compared to MJY, but now is NOT the time to see whether his actions outside the game have created enough of an impact that it could be said that he definitely killed the sponsorship flow for BW (which we will judge by looking at how many sponsors line up for SC2 leagues).

This is just the HoF ballot. Lots of players end up on the ballots for the Halls of Fame in various sports every year because they fit some relatively loose criteria for performance and/or longevity. That doesn't mean that they're getting voted in.

Right, just as in almost every teamsport (football, basketball, american football), you have some players being a substitute at a top team for their whole carreer and winning multiple championships and when you look at the list of players who have won titles to get promoted to the HoF, well here we go...but it is only a list, not the decision which is based on opinions and not just a list to check.
I always rememberd how i tried to copy garimto's strategies everygame like i did really well and so! but he was so almighty with his strategies! You should also make an hall of fame for the foreigners that'd be awesome.

P.S. Not sure how it was before, but currently you can vote Yes/No for each of the suggested players. I went through all of them.

Fantasy was above 90% last night, guess it can be pretty volatile.
The trolls are out in force. 18% of people don't think Nada is a HoF? 16% for JD? 13% for oov? Normally trolling and misclicks only account for 5-8% in public polls. They'll get in no problem but it's still a bit ridiculous. Despite being a Xellos fan I have to say his inclusion would be pretty borderline. 1 OSL and 1 WCG win is nice and he was a top 5 player for a couple years but never held that #1 overall spot and was only the #1 terran for a very brief time. I thought Chojja would be at least borderline also but he's way down at only 33% Fantasy not making it in would be a tragedy. True he only has 1 OSL win but he has 4 runner ups and played a key role in 2 of SKT's proleague championships and 1 winner's league championship.
I just wonder what sane person would put Kingdom over Fantasy. And seriously red4ce, I dont know why you have a doubts with Xellos, specially if you are a fan. I was not really his fan and I admit he really was a BIG DEAL. I'm happy about him.
How is fantasy not above 60%? Do Koreans really hate him that much? 3-0 best player in the world have amazing series vs same guy in a Bo5 a couple years back, consistent PL performance, best (second to NaDa maybe?) vulture control ever. garimto too?
I think most of the people in the negatives is not really because people think they don't deserve it. I think it was because originally, you could only vote for only one person, so everyone down voted all the others

matchfixing has nothing to do with cheating. he wasn't playing any thrown games, he organized the operation
Keep in mind there's gonna be a last round after us, when the decision will be up to professionals. I wonder if that means they could add in some name(s) or are they gonna trim the selection even more.
Perhaps the chosen entries would be very few - like 3-5 people.
Initially I thought this is only to introduce one guy to the Hall of Fame, and each year add another, as they do in other sports. In this sense I was convinced Nada deserves the most to be the first one. I hope whatever they decide now that they would consider adding new people in the future, including some of those not added this time.

July should be Tier 1. He's a Golden Mouse winner and popularized (even if not invented) a completely new way to play a race that's still in heavy use today. Also, Garimto and Reach should probably move up a Tier, their accomplishments compared to their race's overall accomplishments make them more significant.
July's "innovation" to the zerg race was to carelessly flop against his opponents until they died in the same way a paraplegic may try to tear down a brick wall with their face. He would be an minor after thought if not for abusively playing his way through the easiest set of opponents to a title ever when he was way beyond his prime. He's fine right where he is at 2nd tier.

SKT tag + Best's involvement of that 0-3 EVER '08 leads me to say: boo hoo
Uh, I only pointed the most obvious reasons, actually July has developed his own map-optimizing builds with many subtleties in them, but I guess you wouldn't care about that if you don't play zerg. July's madness is much more calculated than it looks.
Savior's whole legacy is tainted no matter what you say about it. I like the comparison between steroid users in the MLB and an eSport should have some integrety and be held to a high standard as well. Honestly I dont know why people arent refering to him as he who should not be named so we can finally stop remembering how he forsake everything for money which he was already earning for doing something he supposedly loved and others only wish they could make money doing professionally.

Unfortunately, this is essentially a popularity contest so no matter how good/ influential your play is back then, if you don't have the fan base to vote for you, you won't make the cut.

Man, NaDa has a lot of fans, he was at 82% when I started writing this, now 86% (same as BoxeR).
EffOrt being so low is fucked. He was a phenomenon in 2009, and his title win over Flash was great. He was right up there as the second best zerg for a time, and was borderline on TBLS along with Fantasy for ages. (And seriously how is ZerO higher than EffOrt?!). Also just look at his page, he has 60% wins. Hardly anyone has a life-time win-rate of 60%. I don't actually mind ZerO being in the list, I think he should be below EffOrt. I feel ZerO is more at the Best, Calm level.

I think in order to prevent this popularity vote from overtaking the entire thing, they do have a third process in which commentators and the media approve of the votes. Unfortunately, the players have to have over 60% approval of votes before the third process can begin

Hey, so I wanted to bump this to 1) get more votes but also 2) the interface changed since last I checked--it is giving vote confirmation. 3) I think you can vote for multiple people. It seems like it counts who you voted for and how you voted for them now.
As indicated by this previous post, I first voted fantasy. Right now just logged in and saw the graphic (my gosu korean google translate says 투표완료= vote complete) that shows I voted for him + Show Spoiler [fantasy vote from past] +
Excellent bump! Missed it the first time around. Too tired now for any korean page shenanigans. Sorry for my sloppiness but how is sea doing right now in these polls? The strongest motivation for me to reg and vote is to get sea in there!
Nothing game wise would make me happier than seeing sea kicking ass in code S
-- A bit down the scale from that would be seeing MTW Synderen pulling his awesome card and starting to kick chinesese pro buttocks in Dota 2 The International; that would be magic as well Probably means nothing here in holy BW land though...
I think Savoir should be mentioned, but it should be pressed upon people the gravity of what he did. He was too impactful to be left out of a shrine to Broodwar, but that doesn't mean history has to be kind to him.

sAviOr has been mentioned to death in this thread. But it tends to derail the thread so sAviOr is kind of taboo right now
Anyone else vote for Kwanro??? Dude was predictable but still exciting to watch... You knew what was coming but still it was fun~ Other than that haha AFter a tie for first place (Boxer and NaDa) Yellow's a single percentage point behind~ at least at the time of my voting
Zero slipped to 58%. It'd be quite sad and a shame if the only modern era zerg player to be inducted was jaedong and gorush (personally I prefer effort and ggplay over zero, for reasons outlined over in the effort fanclub /plug). Also, I don't really remember anything particularly modern about gorush, who was a progamer for umpteen million years and still active through early 2011 when he became commentator. I.e. he's not more modern era, but ggplay was there for initialization of the fantasy build :p. However, ggplay and effort are too far out now to get 60%.
So people need to help bump zero up at the very least.
