The day started off with an introduction by MC Joon, Um Jae Kyung and Kim Carrier, each took time to explain the significance of this final and share their own feelings and predictions for the upcoming final. Kim Carrier's observation that Fantasy appears to want the final more seemed to fly in the face of his history with Jangbi and his utter elation when Jangbi used carriers in the previous final.
Jangbi eventually got a chance to respond and continued in the same vein of confidence that he has been mining since his return to form in 2011. He responded to Kim Carrier by stating that he wants the title just as much as Fantasy and does not believe he, as a Protoss, should lose to a Terran in a best of five series. Fantasy was not short of confidence himself, respoding in kind to Jangbi's assertion about PvT balance by reminding the KHAN player that he is no ordinary Terran.
As the questions rolled in it became clear that while OGN are keen to keep the narrative about transition and their "new beginning, most of the press and even the players themselves were conscious of the past and the end of something great. The announcement of the final legends match, between Boxer and Yellow, was a surprise to few in the audience but again reinforced the tone of retrospection. Many references were made by press and the OGN casters to the records set by Fantasy's SKT Terran predecessors and the inconsistent history of Protoss in the OSL which Jangbi is seeking to deny.
Although mention was made of the pressures the transition has placed on the players and the difficulties faced by those working in the eSports industry today, the press conference maintained a relatively light hearted tone throughout. Jangbi and Fantasy laughed together when one Korean journalist suggested that their escape from the Kong line was not yet complete, while Kim Carrier was again quizzed on his continuing love for Carriers and the condition of his tear ducts.
In responding to one of the final questions the OGN PD again looked towards the future and mentioned that OGN would be, for the first time, running an English broadcast of this OSL final. The other casters and MC Joon also expressed their desire for this last final to be a celebration of Starcraft and a springboard for future successes, rather than a memorial service to yet another Korean eSports institution that has come and gone.
I think it might be streamed at TVOngamenet on YouTube but I'm not 100% on this.
Either way, myself, kjwcj and JSy (translator/photographer) will be attending on behalf of Teamliquid. It will start at 1pm.
Stuff that is covered at media day include; - Revealing the legend match - Photoshoots - General press Q&A
I might miss out on some other things, but, if you want a question asked to either Fantasy or Jangbi in relation to the final, this could be your opportunity (time permitting).
Follow me on Twitter (@TL_GTR), and I'll try my best to update from the event if the Korean ESPORTS sites are not.
Shit, I wonder what the legend match will be! Likely to be a final boxer vs yellow ye?
God I'm so bad at thinking of questions.. however it would be very interesting to know what either of them feel of the future of brood war, regarding the whole C-OSL and stuff. I know Jangbi said he would keep playing brood war in pc-bangs, so obviously the love is still there Can't come up with a specific question though. maybe just a comment on it?
Ask Fantasy, if he wins, does that mean him and Jangbi are equals (1-1 in finals) or does it mean he's greater than Jangbi? (because he's won the OSL before)
For both - the two of them ended up in the finals of the last two OSLs, doesn't that prove they are in fact the best two players at the end of Broodwar? Do they feel underrated, with all the praise TBLS are still getting meanwhile?
ask the players: this OSL has had 0 new maps and 0 non-4player maps. Has this made it harder to devise strategies for your matches?
ask the organizers: is there any possibility that there will ever be another BW tournament on OGN? - if the organizers aren't taking questions then ask the players if they have a desire to continue competing in BW if it were possible / if they think they will ever play in another BW tournament.
"How can you see the masses of fans still passionate about BW and tell them this is the last OSL?" Then give him watering puppy dog eyes. ;p lol
I guess it'll be nice to hear the announcement of the Legend Matches, but I don't really wanna know about all the stuff they plan to do with SC2 and tarnishing the legacy and name of OSL. Which I think must be mostly what this is about... How they are going to continue into the 'future of esports' with SC2 and hope their fans stay with them... Basically beg for us not to abandon them after they drop BW.
If Mike Morhaime makes and appearance please throw a shoe at him keke

Ask both how did they balance their practice for the SPL and OSL(iirc jangbi played an SC2 game on SPL after his Ro4 but that's like 2 weeks ago so whatevs, they'll just say their 100% focused on the OSL or something, but still, ask that), and how do they feel being the only ones not focusing on SC2 for quite some time now(they'll probably gonna answer "it's for the last OSL imma do my best blah blah blah" but you'd should still ask that).
Um Jae Kyung giving some background about the records/significance of this final.
First finals rematch in consecutive finals. Chance for first Protoss back to back winner after Boxer and Jaedong did it for Terran and Zerg. If Fantasy wins 3-1 in the final he will have the best win % of any Starleague winner ever, if he 3-0's he will be the first undefeated Starleague champion. If he goes 3-2 he matches Boxer. OSL record is 12 win streak, Fantasy currently on 9 win streak. Protoss 5 finals wins, Terran 4 wins. Chance for Fantasy to even it up.
Winner Predictions from Um Jae Kyung: 3-0 is very possible for either player. It's going to come down to mental fortitude and who wants it more, in this respect he feels Fantasy wants it more so may have the edge in that sense.
Now Um is talking about the mentality and the mindsets that the players need to have. How can they handle the pressure of winning the last BW OSL? Questions like that.
Kim Carrier's Predictions!
If Fantasy's going to win, he will most likely shut out Jangbi 3:0 If this finals goes to the 5th game, Jangbi will win.
Other than the Legend of the Fall Protoss has never shown dominance in Starleague. Terran has won the most OSL titles but have always struggled most against Protoss in finals. If there's a 3-0 it will be Fantasy winning 3-0 but if it goes to the fifth game he predicts Jangbi will win.
Remember to post good questions in here guys. We are the only foreigners at the venue, so take advantage of it. Even it is being streamed, which is nice.
Do either of you have any words to say to the foreign fans who will not only be traveling from far and wide to be at the finals, but also be watching this finals in all corners of the world?
Responds to Um's comment by stating that he wants it as badly as Fantasy. He feels that Protoss should never lose a BoX series against Terran.
Fantasy:
Really wants revenge from last final. Responds to Jangbi by saying that even though a Terran should never win versus Protoss in a BoX series, he is no ordinary Terran.
Jangbi and the whole team focused more on showing fantastic games to the fans than winning last finals because we thought that would be the last BW OSL Finals, and got good results. Since this finals IS the last BW OSL Finals, we will prepare the same way.
uh I can't think of a good question TT. The only thing I can vaguely think of is for maybe like a response by jangbi to this: Q [to fantasy]: In your post-game TV interview, you said that if (T)BoxeR and (T)iloveoov came to your finals match, you would win. A: Up until now, my SKT Terran seniors have all been 2-time OSL winners. In the past when I reached the finals, I would hear fans say things like "Fantasy is really an SKT Terran now," but because I could only win silvers, it was like the SKT Terran line was dying out. This time, I will definitely win and keep the SKT Terran legacy alive.
about what legend he feels he can continue as the last protoss in the last OSL (since legend match is also just boxer vs yellow, he is only protoss legend to be represented at the finals). I.e. fantasy has both boxer there and the whole SKT line to become a 2 time osl champion, but what legend does jangbi think he can fulfill.
Does this being the last BW OSL ever hold any special meaning for you? Do you feel added pressure to win because of it? To Fantasy, does your experience in the last purely BW SPL final help you out for this?

I like this one - would he be creating his own legend, possibly?
PD: This last Finals we hope to bring everybody who had a part in this E-sports together and even though we will be sad, we hope to go out with a smile.
PD says we are currently expanding out list of things to do for the finals. We hope that everyone will laugh and smile at this last Finals. We even moved our location so that as many people would be able to join in as possible.
TL QUESTION!!
Fantasy, we think that the last map being pathfinder affected you in the last finals. How do you feel with Ground Zero being the last map?
Fantasy: Pathfinder was very different compared to normal maps, but Ground Zero and all the other maps seem very normal. I think the more normal they are, the better they are for me, so I am very confident.
Q: How do you feel about being next to Boxer and Iloveoov in line? Boxer is coming for the legend match, so he must've said some words of encouragement to you. How about Iloveoov?
A: I hope he comes. I learned so much from him. I hope to win in front of him again.
On July 30 2012 13:54 Chef wrote: it works fine for me... try refreshing?
Then the stream skips way ahead because it was behind before.
Jangbi being confident in his preparation. Despite only having prepared with teammates last time, I won. I think the way you approach these finals is more important than who you practice with.
Fantasy says I agree. My protoss practice partners are satisfactory, and Flash said he will teach me some builds. I am very friendly with Flash, so he said he will help me.
If it's not over yet, maybe for Fantasy: He first lost OSL final to Stork and later won OSL final vs Stork - can he do the same with Jangbi and does he generally get advantage over an opponent with time?
If one of these wins in these finals, and then wins a SC2 OSL, will they get a golden mouse? Will Flash, Jaedong, and Julyzerg have a shot at getting a Platinum mouse by winning 2 SC2 OSLs?
How about showing off carriers one last time, Jangbi?
PD: Presently we will recognize Jangbi and Fantasy if they win a SC2 OSL after winning this one, and subsequently present a golden mouse to him.
Jangbi: I really want to use carriers, but this time the maps are not helping me. However, you never know. The situation might come up. I plan on producing carriers if the situation calls/allows me to.
KC: I honestly think if he produces carriers, Jangbi will lose. Fantasy i think is secretly hoping for carriers. I hope Jangbi doesn't overextend. I just hope when the game is already won, I hope you can produce one or two as a ceremony.
[joke] ask fantasy why dts are bullshit. there's only one last starleague for all BW fans of the world to properly organise their years of complaints together [/joke]
Um: I cannot wait for the day of the finals, but at the same time I don't want it to come. It will feel like we are sending a dear friend in BW away. I personally hope that the finals don't become a sea of tears in being the last BW Finals. We are repeating to ourselves that this is not an end, but a new beginning. Even if the game changes, this is Starleague all the same.
KC: If this is the last Starleague period, I would've been a lot more sad because this would've been the end of us and Ongamenet, but this is the last BW Starleague. Like Um said, this is like sending a dear friend away. I am feeling that today as well. However, like we said, this is not the end but the beginning, so I hope to remember that at the Finals.
I don't know what will happen. We just need to experience it.
On July 30 2012 14:11 Chef wrote: Really interested what Kim Carrier said. Hope he was like 'no I want it to be a sea of tears' lol...
He said he's the kind of caster who goes with the flow. "That's why I said many things like "Legendary protoss." I also had the mishap of losing my composure in the Ro4. So whatever happens, happens."
Hm. Well I'm glad most of the questions were focused on the actual final and not the transition. You can't get away from a few comments and things they basically have to say like 'please don't stop watching or we won't have work' and indeed it probably would be harder if it were shutting down completly like MBC Game did, but overall they had a good focus on what BW fans wanted to hear.
Obviously I'm bitter about the "new beginning" motto too, but whether they're thinking about their future or they're trying not to piss off their producer and sponsors, I'm not going to blame them. They are at least acknowledging that putting away BW is not done willingly.

A big chunk definitely won't and I'm gonna be a part of that as well.
If they do get an english caster it will probably be some sc2 caster who never really played BW and has no idea what is going on and will get paid way too much for doing it.
Well it's a decent gesture. Will definitely satisfy those coming from Blizzard.com on the advice of those recent articles about the OSL finals. However almost anyone who has been watching BW for a long time is going to be watching with the Koreans the way it was meant to be English cast will undoubtably be more laid back than the Koreans, catering to people who don't know the first thing about BW.
I don't think it'll be a random SC2 dude. It could easily be Artosis, Tasteless, Day9, Sayle etc. Or just a Korean with decent English that they don't have to pay too much. Sayle would basically do it for free from home anyway, so all they would need to do is contact him and make his stream somewhat official haha...

Wouldn't have a problem with moletrap solo casting. Would most likely still watch the korean restream unless they come out with a quality breakthrough.

there are a few english casters that I like: sayle, hackebeast, kiante/sirjolt (for the most part )
although of course I would prefer for korean tournaments to just have the original korean casting (because I can follow the game along fine without a caster and I enjoy the excitement added by the casters + audience) instead of an english caster talking over the original audio. ESPECIALLY because it is so annoying when you hear a caster say something that is just totally wrong or miss an important detail that you catch. it distracts me from the game SO MUCH :\

Thanks
I'm curious who the get to cast it. I won't watch the English live just because at this point it means so much more with the original Korean guys, but I'll watch the English rebroadcast later. I want to see how well an English cast can sound with proper audio equipment and (presumably) the wide berth of information they give to the Korean commentators.
Also because i'm a petty person, and I want to watch for all the errors they make and think how much better it would have been if only they had asked me
DES will probably have a transcript eventually, if not there's a YouTube vod if some enterprising person wants to get the full translation.
Getting full well translated quotes was hard to do on the spot because jsy didn't have anything he could take notes from but hopefully there will be some Korean press stuff that gets translated like always.
i think a highlight is that (exert from fomos) Fantasy said "... our protoss' are not worse than other teams, so training is still very satisfactory. Also there's someone helping me, KT's Flash said that he would recommend some openers to me, after this media conference ends I'm going to talk to him... He said that he would tell me strategies he originally prepared for the finals now. We have a really good relationship, he will help me." And JangBi said "last finals was also like this, Flash always helps Fantasy, even though my opponent is T so it would be better if he helps me, but he still always helps Fantasy. But I won the last finals so I'm not too fussed about it (laugh)."
If this does get released on des i will post the full translation
In responding to one of the final questions the OGN PD again looked towards the future and mentioned that OGN would be, for the first time, running an English broadcast of this OSL final. The other casters and MC Joon also expressed their desire for this last final to be a celebration of Starcraft and a springboard for future successes, rather than a memorial service to yet another Korean eSports institution that has come and gone.
Cool, I can finally spill the beans.
Oh wait, he still haven't spoke about the details... damnit.

It is about korean casting being what it is, I mean the english casters nowadays atworst just point out the obvious with some kind of jokes. If you mean sc2gg commentators, I'd say that most people playing at C/C- level and above knew more about the game which is sad to me, save for nuke, most of them has many so many calls where I would question if they watched the same game as me..

You are dumb. The Korean casting is incredible and what many of us have been listening to for ages. Without understanding the meaning of their words, we hear the excitement in their voices and get the feeling of the game. Kim Carrier is incredible as are his compatriots. Most of us will listen to them because we know they are the best, not because we hold any grudges against English commentators or what they are going to be expected to do. Kim Carrier will cry and scream about carriers if he wants to. I don't think an English commentator on short notice and with less involvement in the scene (there is no greater involvement than over a decade of casting OSLs) will do that.
If you've been watching BW for ages, it will feel like sacrilege to listen to anything but the Koreans. Koreans yelling about StarCraft is part of the religion and tradition of BW. It would be weird, after listening to these guys so many years, to suddenly listen to a random English commentator's first day at OGN (who is likely destined to cast SC2 if all the 'look to the future' stuff is true).

I would like to associate myself to the comments made by Mr. Chef. Watching Zero play Jangbi was such a heart break because of the levels of skill that both players displayed. To the point that Kim Carrier was moved to tears. I didn't understand it then, but during game 1 of Flash vs. Fantasy, realizing how deep and amazing this game is and how much excitement it brought out of Sayle and everyone watching - I started to tear up. Can't believe their ending such an amazing spectator sport. Let's hope the finals deliver amazing games once more. What an epic finals (!!!)
Hopefully Sayle and others will do their own English restreams regardless, because this is a one-time event and it's very unlikely that OGN would bring them down for it this time.

Well, personally, since I've been doing casts of all the other OSL games this time around, I will just try to do a restream, unless I read a statement that clearly states that restreams will be taken down or are forbidden. Even if it would, it's not a big deal, my goal was only to cast the OSL to begin with.
Would suck not to be able to do the finals as intended though. Either way, watching it should be more than enough to make me happy
I'm so happy that there is an English stream of this, because I don't understand the game much and I couldn't follow it with Korean commentating. And English casters aren't bad. It's funny that a lot of people hate that our English casters scream too much and it's just not enough for people that are used to Korean casting.
The Korean casters are really good, saying that our English casters suck is either high standards or nostalgia.
