Q: It was a tough match. Thoughts?
A: It was just as tough as the last OSL final but I also got lucky. In Game 4, I really shouldn't have been able to win that (laughs). I attacked with the intention of just focusing on one instant, and I believe I won because of that. I knew that there was no question I would win Game 5.

Q: Why did you choke up after the game?
A: I was happy because I won, sure, but the fans' cheers made me tear up. I won way too dramatically. Just as much as the last finals.

Q: When did you sense victory in Game 5?
A: Spectators may have thought that Zerg was ahead in the game, but as soon as I got my unit composition, I tried to end it. But because Zero made so many sunkens, I changed my strategy to try and drag it out. I eventually scored some points with HT and DT drops, and as soon as my deathball was finished, I could taste victory.

Q: Did you not know about the 7 o' clock expansion?
A: I didn't see it myself, but I was anticipating it. I first tried to break through Zero's critical areas but because his defense was so solid, I tried to match his expansions and his overall game plan. When the Hydralisks were pounding on my cannons early on, it was a dangerous situation.

Q: Any pressure that you are the last Protoss?
A: Before, there would have been pressure. But now I feel much more mature. Now that I am receiving more attention, I can enjoy it more. I believe these things allow me to grow more.

Q: How did you prepare for the semi-finals?
A: There was nothing too difficult. I played mindgames in the first three sets. Because I tried to make my opponent think, Zero must have had a big headache playing.

Q: You lost Games 2 and 3 after winning the first.
A: I was so mad at myself for losing Game 3. I knew what he was going to do but I couldn't defend it. After the game was over, I sat in the booth to regain composure.

Q: It's the last OSL played in BW, and you're in the final.
A: I think there's a bigger responsibility. No matter whoever reaches the final, there will be great games. I don't perform to the best of my ability when I'm under pressure, so I'm planning to enjoy it.

Q: Honestly, who would you prefer to play?
A: It doesn't matter. Flash and Fantasy are both top Terrans. Because I beat Fantasy last season, it wouldn't be bad to face Flash either. Because Flash has been so good consistently, my victory would shine more if I beat him.

Q: Kim Carrier asked you to use Carriers in the final.
A: Honestly, before, there were maps where Carriers are viable. But now, because the maps have so much open ground, it's tough. I want to use them too. If I prepare for them, I guess I might try. Because Kim Carrier is asking, I'm thinking that I should use them at least once (laughs). Last OSL final, I used them in the first and last set to great effect.

Q: How are you planning to prepare for the final?
A: I don't have much time. I was practicing BW and played SC2, and I lost all my games (laughs). My team's place is on the line too, and I need to practice SC2 for my own future as well, so there isn't much leeway.

Q: It's the final tournament played in Brood War.
A: I'm really sad. It's like your girlfriend leaving you. I'm devastated to think that a game that I've loved so much is leaving me. Even if the tournaments fully switch to SC2 in the future, I'm planning to play Brood War at PC Bangs. Brood War was the best game. Playing SC2, I realize how difficult Brood War really was.

Q: What does reaching the final mean for you?
A: It would be great to win, but it's a big honor just to reach the final. I want to win and relish the glory.

Q: What does OSL mean to you?
A: To be honest, I worried a lot after the last OSL. "What if OSL ends like this?" OSL was what made me dream as a progamer. When I was little, I went and watched the quarterfinals of MyCube OSL in Pusan and also watched the semi-finals held in Sajik Stadium. OSL helped me grow my dreams.

Q: Final words?
A: First, thanks to Roro, Shine, Juni, Odin, all the other coaches and Coach January. It's the last OSL played in BW, and if a lot of fans show up to support me, I know I can win with just as much excitement as the final for JinAir OSL. Sincere thanks to all the fans that showed up today. Also, I'm sorry that I won, but I also want to thank Zero who helped create such amazing games today.

You mean ESPORTS isnt a synonym for SC2? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -Proud owner of a Filco Majestouch 2 with Cherry Blue Switches- BW or SC2? Why not both?

Dah, I don't even understand the logic. Surely by putting "his game" in the same sentence with out using another reference/pronoun it would read:
"Another terrible SC2 player claims that SC2 is superior"

While harassing two bases at the same time and spreading his army across half of the center of the map. ;p Those are definitely not deathballs in SC2 sense.

says it all for me. I was enjoying the games until this moment came and I remembered that this was the last BW OSL PvZ ever in history and in just 3 more weeks there will be no more BW OSL.

Congrats Jangbi! Joined the people in the studio in fist-pumping during the crucial moments and aftermath of games 4 and 5. I honestly thought Zero was going to win (and I wouldn't have minded either) but I guess it was not to be.

There is a protoss deathball in bw, but it is rarely completed (unless you watch Sayle PvZ, then it's like 2/3 of the game and he defends with his deathball for 40 mins), and zerg play is like the opposite of death ball.

To be honest, i never cared much about any protoss in my little starcraft history. I remember Nalra for being a legend and yeah, he was quite cool, but i never really cheered for him since i was always on the side of Zergs and some Terrans... but damn, JangBi really get's to me. I mean, this is the real protoss hero after all... fighting the last fight that protoss will ever fight. It's epic, and overwhelmingly depressing.

I would not mind if this guy actually get's his second gold... either way, i think all contestants left have their legitimate reason to win the gold. As i was a zerg user, it's weird being hyped up for a non-zerg final, but as i just said, only Jaedong could have filled the role of the last zerg in a true fashion anyway...

JangBi for the final protoss victory after years of mediocreness...
Fantasy for the revenge against JangBi and for making his incredibly skill pay off after all.
Flash for being the god of starcraft:broodwar, achieving what nobody ever achieved and winning more starleague titles than anyone before.

Either way, i DONT FUCKING CARE who wins, im just so hyped for all of these players!
Please don't let the games dissapoint... i want 5 sets of epic broodwar in both semi and final.

broodwar forever

Nah, no way. I don't have the stats, but Stork has played way more ace matches and served a much more important role than Jangbi on Samsung Khan. It'll be impressive, but I stilll think Stork has the more accomplished career.

So sad Zero lost after having the game won on Sniper Ridge. Would have been such a sick way to win.

says it all for me. I was enjoying the games until this moment came and I remembered that this was the last BW OSL PvZ ever in history and in just 3 more weeks there will be no more BW OSL.

I cried too when I saw this ;(( such a sad moment...

Seems like there is so much more control involved. Especially when compared to colossus based deathballs. christ...

Anyway, this is kind of sad but I'm excited to see him in the finals. GOGO JangBanger hwaiting!

also a slight mistake

Q: What does OSL mean to you?
A: To be honest, I worried a lot after the last OSL. "What if OSL ends like this?" OSL was what made me dream as a progamer. When I was little, I went and watched the quarterfinals of MyCube OSL in Pusan and also watched the semi-finals held in Sajik Stadium. OSL helped me grow my dreams.

This didn't make sense to me, so I went to an alternate source for the interview

ZerO made the crucial mistake of not securing either an army or economic advantage. If he wanted to kill Jangbi with the economic harassment, he should have paired that up with securing his economic advantage, i.e. building some defenses to ensure a hambang attack isn't going to just kill him while having his army do a looser contain (i.e. not having all his lurkers at the nat) OR ensuring that Jangbi could not take back his natural by reinforcing his contain (keep his econ at the same level, do his harassment then ensure that the blockade eventually starves Jangbi of resources).

All credit to Bisu and stork, but if Jangbi would win this OSL against Fantasy or Flash he would become the #1 Protoss hero in my heart. His skill, his storyline and then taking OSL back to back against the 2 best Terran players in BW history. Talk about going out with a bang.

Even though I was cheering for Jangbi (boy was that fourth game close, total reversal), I would also have been happy if Zero had won. These games were amazing, exciting, back-and-forth and totally awesome! The next set of semi-finals will be just as great! Every player that got this far deserves the win, and I'll be happy whoever takes the gold.

You can even call it a JangBang

But no he is facing vs Flash in the finals. And then cement himself as the number 1 Brood War player of ALL time.

Damn other then jangbi when was the last time a protoss won an msl/osl? I came into the scene june of 09 and I can only remember seeing jaedong/flash in the finals for like all of them or flash/effort and I think flash/zero. I don't think a protoss has won in awhile am I right (other then jangbi's last osl win). Not a fan of protoss but kinda hoping he wins again as it's really impressive to not only beat flash in the last osl finals, but to make it to the finals again.

Great interview, I enjoyed it greatly, and while sad that ZerO will never have the chance to prove he's the last great Zerg innovator, Jangbi is always awesome.

Unfortunately, Jangbi won't be getting all that he wants. I too wish it was going to be Jangbi vs. Flash. But Fantasy is going to beat Flash. Historically, Fantasy always has the best preparation for his OSL games. He's also in the best form of anyone in BW, and let's not forget the last PL finals. It's a shame, because Jangbi won't be remembered as one of the greatest unless he takes down both Fantasy and Flash in the finals.

... seriously, what are people thinking when they post stuff like this, especially after the whole 'BW fans switching to Dota 2/LoL' thing?

Congratulations to Jangbi, I know very little about the BW scene, but even I can recognise the significance of this OSL, will definitely be watching the finals.

Jangbi, make the finals epic. I know you will. I posted a lot about how I wanted mini to win and was super hyped for him. I wasn't particularly a big fan of the jin air osl run (soo sucked for lamest ro4 ever, I'm a fantasy fan and fantasy had the game 5 easily if he didn't float 1k/1k for forever, flash just played too greedy, etc) but holy fuck, you played like a champion today. The way someone should play.

I was wrong. Jangbi, you are the most awesome protoss in my heart.

bw forever.

Just realised that all three players left alive in this OSL have been past winners haha

Can't wait for FvF!! As much as I'm happy for JB that he advanced, I'm equally sad for ZerO...I mean just look at the guy during the final minutes of the game and after the gg... T___T

Thank you doothegee for translating!! ^___^

I'm one of the biggest anti-Bisu people out there, but even with a second OSL for Jangbi you're so wrong. Bisu is the greatest Protoss player of all time and I don't think it's actually close.

I don't think there is a greatest Protoss of all time. From Garimto, Nal_Ra, Stork, Bisu, Jangbi. Seems no one gets the crown of of this group.

Eh come on, Bisu may not be as leading as the top terrans & zergs in comparison to their brethrens, but Bisu still has the most titles from all protosses (I also count here the GSL title, which was a vaild tournament back then) + how many proleague titles he brought to his teams? 4? I understand proleague is a team thing, but Bisu has always been the leaderd, the edge who at the end weighted enough to bring the title home and last but not least is what Bisu did with PvZ, no other protoss ever did something so significant, although Nal_Ra, Garimto, Reach, Anytime and probably others brought something for the protoss race as well, just not as big as Bisu's. At least this is my opinion

Remind me who has been a top contender since 2005
Remind me who used to have a win record vs the rest of taekbangleessang
Remind me who has actually made a semi final 3 OSL's ago?

I favor stork but arguments can be made for both and I dont think we're fit to decide it, but no matter if Jangbi wins or looses he's gonna be up there with the greatest tosses

It depends on whether you're arguing on who is the most accomplished or who was the better player. Bisu was more accomplished but you can argue all day about who was the better player.

While Bisu is probably the most accomplished protoss of all time, considering his team's acheivements on top of his personals, I'd say that JangBi is pretty definitively the best Protoss of 2011/2012.

Not sure if I'd put JangBi over Stork or not. 2 OSLs is a pretty strong case.

It wasn't Jangbi who was the ace of Khan for during his horrible slump in 2010/2011. Even Great was a better option for Khan when he was playing well and made the MSL finals. Even if he wins this OSL his extreme inconsistency in proleague lowers him below Stork and a few other great tosses.

Bisu only had two good years and afterwards he didn't achieve anything besides the record for most PL individual wins and winning the PL (but only twice) with his team...
Oh yeah, and Bisu only beat Savior, the protoss slayer, in the MSL finals...

There have been several great protoss players, but it's completely pointless to argue who was the best. Both Stork and Bisu certainly were at the very top.

It could backfire though. Fantasy and Flash have total polar opposite of TvP styles.

In comparison to ZvP. Its like practicing with ZerO to face against Shine.

Or practicing with Stork to face against Bisu.

No one is fit to decide this. It's almost completely subjective because there's no universal scale for measuring the level of greatness of pro-gamer legacies. But of course we can all agree that using whatever meaningful form of measurement, Stork and Bisu are two of the greatest Protosses of all time.

If every progamer were as amazing as JangBi then esports would be so huge. <3

Edit: And just because OSL is more prestigious than MSL was, there isn't anything to say that Bisu's accomplishments are less than Stork's. For me it's Strok>JangBi>Bisu but it's all so moot and frankly, irrelevant

It could backfire though. Fantasy and Flash have total polar opposite of TvP styles.

In comparison to ZvP. Its like practicing with ZerO to face against Shine.

Or practicing with Stork to face against Bisu.

JB is auto-win vs Stork thats not practice thats slaughter :D

Q: It's the final tournament played in Brood War.
A: I'm really sad. It's like your girlfriend leaving you. I'm devastated to think that a game that I've loved so much is leaving me. Even if the tournaments fully switch to SC2 in the future, I'm planning to play Brood War at PC Bangs. Brood War was the best game. Playing SC2, I realize how difficult Brood War really was.

Well said mate!

May BW live forever!

Q: How are you planning to prepare for the final?
A: I don't have much time. I was practicing BW and played SC2, and I lost all my games (laughs). My team's place is on the line too, and I need to practice SC2 for my own future as well, so there isn't much leeway.

Another terrible Sc2 player claims his game is superior.

Seems to be a theme, in this section especially.

I haven't woke up/stayed up for a BW finals in a while but I will make sure to watch this one. A part of me feels like it is dying since BW is being replaced by SC2 but I hope it goes out with a bang.
