I posted this on the news section of the PGT site, here it is for those who haven't seen it yet.
OnGameNet has recently nominated a selection of maps for possible use during the next Starleague and Proleagues through the map-making community site, mapdori.com.
'The concept of the day' is the innovative placement of neutral buildings, which are placed in tactical locations throughout all but one of the maps.
The following are the four selected maps and their brief descriptions:
Hae Bing Gi 解氷期 by Byun Jong Suk (the infamous Rose.of.Dream) This four-player map has the starting positions focused into the centre. The players have the option to take two different routes; the long way around the walls, or to break through the neutral buildings to gain access into the centre area.
Industrial Revolution by Kim Jin Tae This pretty three player map forces the players to shorten their routes by destroying the many neutral temples littered around the map.
Hitchhiker by Jo Seung Yun The styles of play on this two player map hugely differs according to the stages of the game. The distance between the two starting positions is very short, however at the same time the route is very narrow. In order to expand and maneuvre sizeable armies during mid/late game the players will be forced move outwards by clearing away the neutral buildings.
Calm Breeze by Goh Mung Soo This three player map encourages tussles to take place in the centre, however there are also routes for skirmishes around the edges of the map.
Better start planning your strategies!

Very neat looking maps... I'll be looking forward to seeing pro games on these.
Finally, a return of ice and badlands maps.

Calm Breeze looks cool but those big-ass ramps scare me.

Assuming that an agreement means "bandwagon" is gay.

i really like the last one. 3 player maps becoming more popular is definitely a good thing!
not sure if i like the building concept of the other maps yet.
oh and the first one is horrible, i think you can siege other starting position's mineral lines from the center -_-, also it's positionally very imbalanced.
meh, after having looked at it again the 2nd one is really bad as well.

Calm breeze looks awesome. I don't like the others really.
Industrial revolution was pretty, but seems to hurt a protoss bigtime.

calm breeze looks like a fun map. this neutral building stuff though... i dunno. will have to wait and see how it plays out i guess.

maybe im not a good judge, but the first one is iffy for tvp imo. i guess it kind of depends on how much HP those buildings have though.. also trying to kill the bottom right expansion when you're base is at 2 would be extremely difficult i imagine map 2 has good possibilities, but there seems to be alot of buildings you have to kill which would probably be annoying. that map would definately take quite a bit of practice to get the hang of. map 3 is perhaps the best of the "building kill" maps imo. simply because the idea of gameplay they proposed will probably work. and the fact that killing off those other buildings probably won't be too much of a hassle when you're that far into the game. map 4 looks very clean. i'd like to try it out tbh ;D it has some very interesting possibilities i can already see.
these maps would definately bring some interesting and (albeit, forced) new style of play. look forward to them, if they're used.

Yes, my main problem with these maps is that they seem new for the sake of being new.
It looks like it will be more fun to watch games on these maps than to actually play on them (with the exception of the third map, which all-round does a great job of dealing with ramp imbalance and with the general difficulties of making a 3-player map).

first map = MEGA PATHING ISSUES. really really not fun
|
Do buildings screw up paths like minerals do?
|
Seems like a really cool concept but it's hard to say how balanced it will be not knowing how much hp the neutral buildings have. I would love to see how the pros play these maps, should make for some really interesting games.

them suckers really know how to make them maps

when will we have pro 5/6 player maps for 1v1? :p
