i wouldn't take the overall ranking seriously at the moment considering msl died and osl is on hiatus. i'd take the proleague ranking as a better indication of 'kespa ranking' at the moment. kespa has a weird formula in that individual league performances don't decay for until at least a year or something ridiculous like that.
Now that the MSL is gone Kespa needs to reformulate their rankings because aside from Flash at #1 this list isn't a very accurate representation of the top 30 players.

i also took a look at these rankings recently (hello proleague app!). i love that you can see why kt is on top of proleague. kt not only has the strongest "1-2 punch" but also the strongest "1-2-3-4-5 punch" of all the teams according to these rankings (means, kt is the first team to count 2 players and the first team to count 5 players from the top). this makes it easy to get 3 out of 5 wins
Yea rankings are totally wrong. Zergs have been performing weaker than usual this season. Especially the higher ranked zergs Zero and Hydra, they have been losing more than they have been winning. The rankings are totally inaccurate in reflecting the state of the current proleague.

iirc they progressively decay over the year
ALL points earned in kespa ranking do not decay until 2 months have passed, then they decay at 10% at a time. So after 12 months, they're 100% decayed. So players still have all their points from two months ago. To simplify it, say Flash wins an OSL in December and earns 500 points for January's rankings. January->Feb he loses 0%, Feb->March he loses 0%, March->April he loses 10%, so he's at 450 from the OSL, April->May he loses 10% of the whole to drop to 400. This progresses until it runs out.
You don't lose points for losing games, you just don't gain any, so you'll eventually drop out as you don't win anything and your old points start decaying after 2 months. It's a decent metric when the MSL was still around and there were a lot more games in general if you wanted a less volatile, long encompassing ranking.
even the proleague ranking are not really fair imo: Fantasy should definetely be 2nd place or at least above Bisu, Stats and SoulKey, Zero and Light too should be behind Fantasy, even in the mid tier there are some players i don't think they deserve their spot, like Calm, which is not playing and when he does he often lose..
lol, the same bitching every time just accept Kespa rating for what it is.. a statement of how well a player has been doing overall in the last 12 months, not just the 1 month, so how on earth is it a surprise that last is not on there.... or effort who had retired for several months.
The rankings are calculated on a rolling one year basis I believe, so sometimes a player can perform well now and drop the ranking or perform badly now and climb. How the rank changes depends on what happened during the entire last year.
It is somewhat similar to the ATP rankings, for reference.
Soo made Ro8 last OSL, I assume that's why he's still so high. Combine that with no corresponding MSL, and last year's irregular tournament schedule, and no Starleague at all for going on four months now, the algorithm has been messed up.
I haven't paid attention to the pro scene for months now and my jaw literally just dropped after seeing that. I expected Flash to still be first but the rest of the ten was shocking
I think the reason that strange things are happening has to do with the long break between seasons. A player like Stats who has been highly dominant lately is actually losing places on the ranking because games that he played earlier in the year (Winner's League where he made a ton of all kills) don't count for shit anymore.

Yeah, I know that. But the fact that the points are only added, never subtracted, and they decay throughout the year should be common knowledge, especially when all the info is already on TL and no "research" is needed whatsoever.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the rankings taking a year to decay. It is supposed to be an overall ranking not a current super up to date ranking of skill.

Why would they change it? The numbers will be lower because of fewer games, but so what?

It counts results over the past 12months or so and for a long time during then Stork was terrible, Soo was winning games and Jaehoon has a very good record
It's a shame that the Kespa rank is becoming largely irrelevant. I liked that Kespa rank was a good balance of individual league and proleague, albeit favoring SLs. But this was fine, since ELO really only rewards really deep SL pushes, and even then the games aren't weighted any more, it's just that if you make the finals you got a lot of wins on the way there. So ELO kinda favours SPL.
But with the end of individual leagues, Kespa is off. Sure the OSL will come eventually, but in the current state of 1 or 2 OSLs per year, those who make the semi-finals are really gonna be inflated.
I guess it is a good thing a Protoss is ranked as high as number 2? I don't think Protosses have usually been ranked as high in the recent past? It has to be good for the metagame.
