hi all, i am from china in beijing , i wang to show u something how pcgames are in china . CKCG2005 ------> china korea cyber games 2005 china vs korea , live match in beijing matches is : Starcraft 1on1, War3 1on1 ,and Cstrik Team battle. the prizes of match : 1 starcraft 1on1: champion --> about 10000$ runner-up--> about 5000$ the 3rd-->about 2500$ the 4th-->about 2500$ 2 starcraft 2on2 champion --> about 2500$ runner-up--> about 15000/8$ the 3rd-->about 10000/8$ the 4th-->about 5000/8$ 2 War3 the same as starcraft 3 Cstrike champion --> about 12500$ runner-up--> about 8750/8$ the 3rd-->about 5000/8$ the 4th-->about 2500/8$ the prize is maybe supported by Sk telecom & Hyundai & Pantech , that is all from korea. many pro gamers from korea come to beijing . but the organise of china is very poor ,they know nothing about games, let us see what funny things they have done : some korean players write like this : ------- * Theres nothing to eat except boiled eggs Players such as ilOveOOv had to have a breakfast of one or two boiled eggs, and most of the players could not handle the Chinese style foods.
* The 3-star hotel has no water.Joo Hoon, as the CKCG Korea coach - unable to find water or a refrigerator at a 3 star hotel. Horrified after an organiser said "Most Chinese hotels are 3star anyhow, without comparing facilities and such."
* Because of the narrow tables the CKCG matches were delayed to 2PM Beijing time. The desks at the CKCG stage were too low and too narrow, that the gamers could not move their mouses freely. The CKCG organisers are hurriedly organising new desks.
* There is Starcraft, but there is no Battle.net As the games were delayed the gamers went to a LAN-cafe near the hosting area. The place, filled with Pentium-grade PCs had 32MB RAM, and because the installation was through copied disks practice was unavailable through Battle.net, and had to practice through IPX. But to hide their strats the players resorted to simple web-surfing.
* Ack! Chinese The Korean progamers were unable to hide their horror after finding that War3 and CS were installed in a Chinese version. They cannot play on a Chinese version, so their attempts at progress in the events were delayed. ---- i went to see the match , cause i love pc games ,and i like korean pro gamers.i arrived at the match field at about 10 in the morning,i thought the match maybe had started, but when i got the hall ,there war no match , and i asked why , someone told me the match was delayed because the desk is too short , and players can not moive mouse on it,i think the desk is the same as what we used for lunch at the match field.so what the korean players writed is true, but i think 32 ram of pc is a joke.after i had lunch , it is about 2:00 in the afternoon, i got very angry , because there is still no offical match ,so i went home and slept, when i woke up , the match just started at 5:00 in the afternoon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the poor thing the organise of china had done : 1 the desks of match are too short , maybe just a ass can be on it, how to play games? 2 the emcee is not professional, when match finished , she even did not know who won. 3 the hierophant and the gamers were set at a whole hall,i thought the players do not need to try to get the information of the games, what they have to do is that they make good use of theirs ears when the hierophant works 4 the lan is very shit , the computers can not connect each other , 5 ... 6 ... . . . i do not want to write more . finally the organise of china bought some desks , and all computers are put on the groud , and then they began to teach us how to set a desk , how to set a Lan , just the same as what u do the fitst time that u buy a computer . it is really a live show. at 5:00 in the afternoon, the match started, i think if the players finish their supper, during the match , the organise of china did another good job ,when player kingdom from korea had a 'Toss vs Toss' game , the organise of china think the game is a little bit long , and suggest he hurry up , i think his apm can reach another top point he never did before. player iloveoov bowed in front of the computers,he looks like a monkey with a smile on his face , from the smile i can feel how these progamers sad are.
there is no mouse pad , the pirce of the mouse & keyboard is just worth 50/8 $ , the progamers were not allowed to use their own equipment. i should say sorry for our friends form korea , in china they attach no importance to games , what they like is the students study study study . i think the progamers won't come china anymore , and i wish they won't do either , china really make them feel sad. sorry my friends. most of pc rooms is like the pic above , and chinese network is very poor ,the main competitors are 2 companies, their network is self-governed ,the connection between the 2 network is like a modem connection. most of china players play games in such a bad pcroom, use such a bad network. some lessons to korean companies , do not devote any enery and money to china company , it is no use , games are attached importance to ,so do not waste your time money and enery any more .
i wish this topic can be transfered to some korean forums. there are still matches today , let us see what the organise of china will do .
my msn is :gongxw@msn.com

Thank you for the report. It was very interesting.
I would not be so negative about the state of affairs in China. It's still early days for China in a lot of ways. Hotels, service, lan connections, quality of venue, etc. all these things will improve with time and experience. And if they don't, it probably means that the Chinese, for whatever reasons, have simply chosen not to attach the same degree of significance to the endeavors as others do. No big deal.

Weren't allowed to use their own equipment? what the fuck is china doing over there..was it this retarded last year as well? I'm guessing no, because I don't think they'd come back after that
|
they wont allow to use their own equipment because that will make them look bad.. lol
i would just ditch this tourney...and wat hotel where they were? just eggs? it's not even a hotel....Whoever sponsor this, want the gamers to die..

pj must have been embarrassed -_-

omg...those setting and desks REALLY reduce your performance to 50-60%...poor koreans!

That was a very nice informative read. Certainly gives us a perspective of how global gaming is still lightyears away from becoming remotely like what it is in Korea. I mean, China's probably the most likely place to emulate Korea. More and more I feel progaming is truly a unique phenomenon and one for people to nurture and cherish before it can be fully accepted. It's really not that surprising.

wtf are those monitors, they look like tvs from the 70's

No no no, it is perfectly preceptible, I had expected nothing more from my own country when it comes to pro gaming. Chinese people are not very excel at the following things: 1. planing 2. organizing 3. hospitality 4. entrepernoraship(excuse my spelling) Since the years of communism domination has controlled all aspects of the things listed above, we chinese do lack the above qualities. It is a pity. It'll get better though, I believe. once we done it for couple more years atleast. O and chinese version of wc3 and cs are very widely used in china, becaues chinese flately refuse to learn english. You see the korean say broken english when commentating a game, they actually use the word high-templar or something, but the chinese dont do it.
|
koreans love english speakers. whenever i meet koreans, they always ask me to teach them english ^^;; rS.Loco probably could join West Sea Guild because hes foreigner and speaks english. it is interesting for koreans to see foreingers play sc.

The worst thing is, the sponsor gave China 10,000,000¥ (or ~$ 1,250,000 USD) for CKCG. This fucking event costed them at the most 1,000,000¥, and what happened to the other 90% of the money? They pocketed it themselves obviously.
This is China for you.

Fuck that, they are just extremely self-centered, which leads to those (better) qualities you listed.

Yeah. I couldn't agree more.

Thanks for the report. I had no idea that was the state of things.

Rumors Plz Die! It's true that the organizers have done a bad job overall, but I really think the reporters from both countries whined too much. All these reports only exposed the negative side of the event and magnified every single issue out of proportion.
From the pictures from the official website the whole thing looks like a large and sprawling event, also a little messy of course. http://www.esport.com.cn/ckcg/ The thread opener just picked the most embarrassing picture (prob taken when the players were warming up in the LAN area) to illustrate the stupidity of the organizers. The table size was the biggest issue indeed, and it almost ruined the whole event. but after they made the necessary changes, players came back and kept everything going. Afterwards players from both sides were good-mannered and the matches were friendly. They have a couple soundproof (at least in theory) booths on stage, they're for contestants when their game is broadcast live on the big screen. Although i'm not totally sure but i think players did use their own equipments and it's said that they often needed to crawl under the table to plug/unplug the cables of their gears.
Obviously the organizers belong to a whole different generation and have little idea about how to run a major e-sport event. i dont understand why they stage those Beijing opera and other gaudy shows during the openning ceremony, they're like performances for ppl 50-60 years of age. http://www.esport.com.cn/ckcg/news/2005-08-20/650927.html i think for esports to develop in china, more young ppl need to lift their heads out of their books and exams and try to take some things into their own hands.

hey your a foreigner and you speak english, how come your not in sea? cause they don't accept foreigners.Loco being the exception that is.

Yep, supposely the event was sponsored by Korean tech companies. But wtf is this shit, i just don't understand why they didn't hire gamers to help organize it. Just like doing anything else in China, everything thing you try to do will inevitably incur a "people expense." You pay the fuckers who run your event, you pay the fuckers who help connect you to the right people. you pay the fuckers so they ALLOW you to do what you are rightful entitled to do, you pay the fuckers in the government so they don't give you shits. You pay, you pay you pay... Jesus fucking christ... and you get no security watso ever, if some guy in the government decided you are a risk basing on his own opinion then they can just pull the plug on you and they don't need a valid reason... fucking BS...

Hey, i'm allowed to bag my own country!
Anyhow, my patriotsm only kicks in when foreigners bad mouth China... i do have a few opinions regarding the affairs of my country but lately i have grown more critical after reading threads after threads of Chinese posters who only think in terms of pride and so called "face reclaiming".
It just appears that everyone back there only want something utterly superficial. They want China to be strong, to be united and when you ask them why? they tell you it is so that foreigners can treat them as equals and they can stand tall T_T. No one thinks to better the country or anything... if anything went wrong, they blame the society while totally neglecting their own responsibilities... i'm just sadden by this whole perceived notion of success in my culture..
Anyways... this is off topic. i think CKCG is badly organised and people shouldn't compare it with WEG. And on www.playsc.cc they said that they are going to organise a CKCG ever year till 2008 when Bejing olympics starts.. then they would try to turn CKCG as a side - show to the olympics... like electronic olympics or somthing which i thought was very interesting.
An interesting thing to note: did you know the Korean singer performed in CKCG? she used to really popular in Korea and now she doing shows and releasing albums in China... (I'm sure Koreans and Chinese know her) Very interesting to see that a main stream pop artist is involved in this event keke.

Thats very true, China's harshest's critics are problaly Chinese themselves. But like most people, will go defending they country to the bitter end against colonising foriegn imperialist dogs!

I'm sure the singer is not as popular in Korea as you think.

Am you sure? I knew she was pretty old (24 yo -_- but supposely pop artists are considered old after their teens). I don't really know her korean name or her english equilvent spelling but she starred in a popular drama a few years back.
She has a really cute face that i can see appeals to the masses..

Jang, Na-ra
her peak popularity was like 2 years back but there's a reason she's in china -_-;;
she is a little cutie tho
and korean singers always get invited to those types of events, there are only so many opportunities in a small country like korea to make some loot
