hi all, i am from china in beijing , i wang to show u something how pcgames are in china .
CKCG2005 ------> china korea cyber games 2005
china vs korea , live match in beijing
matches is : Starcraft 1on1, War3 1on1 ,and Cstrik Team battle.
the prizes of match :
1 starcraft 1on1:
champion --> about 10000$
runner-up--> about 5000$
the 3rd-->about 2500$
the 4th-->about 2500$
2 starcraft 2on2
champion --> about 2500$
runner-up--> about 15000/8$
the 3rd-->about 10000/8$
the 4th-->about 5000/8$
2 War3
the same as starcraft
3 Cstrike
champion --> about 12500$
runner-up--> about 8750/8$
the 3rd-->about 5000/8$
the 4th-->about 2500/8$
the prize is maybe supported by Sk telecom & Hyundai & Pantech , that is all from korea.
many pro gamers from korea come to beijing .
but the organise of china is very poor ,they know nothing about games,let us see what funny things they have done :
some korean players write like this :
-------
* Theres nothing to eat except boiled eggs Players such as ilOveOOv had to have a breakfast of one or two boiled eggs, and most of the players could not handle the Chinese style foods.

* The 3-star hotel has no water.Joo Hoon, as the CKCG Korea coach - unable to find water or a refrigerator at a 3 star hotel. Horrified after an organiser said "Most Chinese hotels are 3star anyhow, without comparing facilities and such."

* Because of the narrow tables the CKCG matches were delayed to 2PM Beijing time. The desks at the CKCG stage were too low and too narrow, that the gamers could not move their mouses freely. The CKCG organisers are hurriedly organising new desks.

* There is Starcraft, but there is no Battle.net As the games were delayed the gamers went to a LAN-cafe near the hosting area. The place, filled with Pentium-grade PCs had 32MB RAM, and because the installation was through copied disks practice was unavailable through Battle.net, and had to practice through IPX. But to hide their strats the players resorted to simple web-surfing.

* Ack! Chinese The Korean progamers were unable to hide their horror after finding that War3 and CS were installed in a Chinese version. They cannot play on a Chinese version, so their attempts at progress in the events were delayed.
----
i went to see the match , cause i love pc games ,and i like korean pro gamers.i arrived at the match field at about 10 in the morning,i thought the match maybe had started, but when i got the hall ,there war no match , and i asked why ,
someone told me the match was delayed because the desk is too short , and players can not moive mouse on it,i think the desk is the same as what we used for lunch at the match field.so what the korean players writed is true,but i think 32 ram of pc is a joke.after i had lunch , it is about 2:00 in the afternoon, i got very angry , because there is still no offical match ,so i went home and slept, when i woke up , the match just started at 5:00 in the afternoon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the poor thing the organise of china had done :
1 the desks of match are too short , maybe just a ass can be on it, how to play games?
2 the emcee is not professional,when match finished , she even did not know who won.
3 the hierophant and the gamers were set at a whole hall,i thought the players do not need to try to get the information of the games, what they have to do is that they make good use of theirs ears when the hierophant works
4 the lan is very shit , the computers can not connect each other ,
5 ...
6 ...
.
.
.
i do not want to write more .
finally the organise of china bought some desks , and all computers are put on the groud , and then they began to teach us how to set a desk , how to set a Lan , just the same as what u do the fitst time that u buy a computer .
it is really a live show.
at 5:00 in the afternoon, the match started, i think if the players finish their supper, during the match , the organise of china did another good job ,when player kingdom from korea had a 'Toss vs Toss' game , the organise of china think the game is a little bit long , and suggest he hurry up , i think his apm can reach another top point he never did before.
player iloveoov bowed in front of the computers,he looks like a monkey with a smile on his face , from the smile i can feel how these progamers sad are.
[image loading]

there is no mouse pad , the pirce of the mouse & keyboard is just worth 50/8 $ , the progamers were not allowed to use their own equipment.
i should say sorry for our friends form korea ,
in china they attach no importance to games , what they like is the students study study study .
i think the progamers won't come china anymore , and i wish they won't do either , china really make them feel sad.
sorry my friends.
most of pc rooms is like the pic above , and chinese network is very poor ,the main competitors are 2 companies,
their network is self-governed ,the connection between the 2 network is like a modem connection.
most of china players play games in such a bad pcroom,use such a bad network.
some lessons to korean companies , do not devote any enery and money to china company , it is no use , games are attached importance to ,so do not waste your time money and enery any more .

i wish this topic can be transfered to some korean forums.
there are still matches today , let us see what the organise of china will do .

Thank you for the report. It was very interesting.

I would not be so negative about the state of affairs in China. It's still early days for China in a lot of ways. Hotels, service, lan connections, quality of venue, etc. all these things will improve with time and experience. And if they don't, it probably means that the Chinese, for whatever reasons, have simply chosen not to attach the same degree of significance to the endeavors as others do. No big deal.

That was a very nice informative read. Certainly gives us a perspective of how global gaming is still lightyears away from becoming remotely like what it is in Korea. I mean, China's probably the most likely place to emulate Korea.
More and more I feel progaming is truly a unique phenomenon and one for people to nurture and cherish before it can be fully accepted. It's really not that surprising.

No no no, it is perfectly preceptible, I had expected nothing more from my own country when it comes to pro gaming. Chinese people are not very excel at the following things:
1. planing
2. organizing
3. hospitality
4. entrepernoraship(excuse my spelling)
Since the years of communism domination has controlled all aspects of the things listed above, we chinese do lack the above qualities. It is a pity.
It'll get better though, I believe. once we done it for couple more years atleast.
O and chinese version of wc3 and cs are very widely used in china, becaues chinese flately refuse to learn english. You see the korean say broken english when commentating a game, they actually use the word high-templar or something, but the chinese dont do it.
Myacctmessup: People tried to create a Perfect language that the whole world can communicate with out difficulty, that it is universal and easy to learn. Do you hapen to know what language is it? Fireblast: You mean love?

The worst thing is, the sponsor gave China 10,000,000¥ (or ~$ 1,250,000 USD) for CKCG. This fucking event costed them at the most 1,000,000¥, and what happened to the other 90% of the money? They pocketed it themselves obviously.

This is China for you.

Fuck that, they are just extremely self-centered, which leads to those (better) qualities you listed.
