Update: NukeTheStars's recent english commentaries have been taken offline.
Update: moktira requested information that he posted relating to the nevake account and their copyright claims here. Go read it before posting.
Has anyone looked into this much? There's some discussion in Sayle's thread but it seems like a company is basically blocking BW Proleague content. The only thing I can find on them is that they had the rights in 2007.
Yeah I didn't notice. This does piss my off royally. Though I think it may be wise to get the videos off of nevake that can't be found anywhere else onto a HDD. Just incase they try to shut the channel down.
It looks like the earlier games from Proleague 11-12 are still watchable, maybe KeSPA struck up another deal with IGN that begun in December? It seems kind of dumb, but copyright is a bitch some days.
I'm trying to familiarize myself with the Kespa/IEG/OGN/MBC issue in 2007 through the old threads, but it's still a little confusing. (Obviously) given how PL survived, what was the specific conclusion of that ordeal?
Seriously? So all of a sudden IEG decides to start caring about blocking PL content...awesome. Really hope they don't legally have rights to any of this and it gets shut down in a hurry.
I'm actually kinda nervous because Nevake is like the last remaining bastion of BW games, many gams might be findable but they are scattered all over random channels. If Nevake got the axe.....
EDIT: It does seem only videos from the 30th are blocked and no others so hopefully it's just a mistake.
Seriously, IEG? Didn't they get booted out during the whole Kespa/Blizzard war, when it was determined that Kespa didn't have the right to sell broadcasting rights to IEG in the first place, resulting in IEG pulling sponsorship from their proleague team?
Hope this gets sorted out fast. If those fuckers still have the rights somehow... hope they don't start shutting down streams.

This is very possible, and it wouldnt be the first time.
Also a new message from Nevake on his channel:
nevake (7 minutes ago)
A few VODs have been blocked worldwide today as they "may include content that is owned or administered by International E-sports Group", I'm disputing it at the moment, I've never heard of this group but they definitely have nothing to do with these VODs.

Oh Youtube. why are you like this :|
Maybe his copyright dispute was successful? I haven't tried disputing for mine yet. It's interesting though. If IEG really does have the rights, why would they only block CJ vs ACE? All the other matches were left untouched, at least on my channel.

What I meant was, if the dispute was already deemed successful on the basis that the claim was fraudulent, then all of these IEG copyright claims should therefore be withdrawn as well. And yes, it was only CJ vs. ACE for both channels. Maybe "IEG" is just a CJ/ACE whore. "Go ahead and watch your other crappy teams, but you don't get CJ and ACE. They're MINE!" lol
I believe there's someone archiving Nevake offline.
I wonder if IEG decided to have some guy go flag latest VODs or something. Funimation sometimes just youtube searches (if you can call it that) their properties and Copyright requests them down.
Basically because of the way liability is set up (youtube can get sued for any of it's millions of videos), the entire system is guilty until proven Innocent. The problem is absolutely anyone can claim copyright infringement, but there's no penalty for falsely accusing. But it's a huge hassle to prove your innocence. But once you do, it can be immediately flagged for copyright infringement again.
Are you suggesting that it might not have even been IEG that complained, but a random vigilante who thinks they know what is copyrighted? Or do you have to own the video to make the complaint?
Yeah, from Shamus's writing, he's gotten videos flagged from... and I quote:
YouTube starts off by notifying you that their content-sniffer has detected that you have used “Third Party Content”. It tells you what kind (audio or video) and who the owner is, but that’s it. It doesn’t name the original work, give a timestamp for where it was detected, or even provide a link to the alleged owner. There’s no contact info and you can’t ask for clarification. In the past, I’ve had people assert “ownership” over segments of freely-available game trailers. (They did not own, produce, market, or publish the game, the trailer, or the footage. It was just some asshat who put up a trailer and said, “I own this”.)
On December 06 2011 06:17 Chef wrote: Are you suggesting that it might not have even been IEG that complained, but a random vigilante who thinks they know what is copyrighted? Or do you have to own the video to make the complaint?
There has been a spate of Russian companies that file complaints on Youtube videos neither party holds the copyright to and then uploads their own version. I wonder if this is related?
Youtube gas gone down the drain. At least in germany it is totally unuseable because every second video is blocked due to copyright. Thank god there are already countless eastern european, russian and chinese sites waiting to fill it's shoes

From what I can find, IEG was listed as the "strategic partner" for the Cyberathlete Professional League.
There's also some stuff floating around from a few years ago that says IEG purchased the rights to broadcast BW from kespa, like others have mentioned in this post already.

Sucks though because youtube is better for picking up casuals at random. It might be changing, but most people are going to youtube something before they bliptv it.
On December 07 2011 11:10 Antisocialmunky wrote: That's really weird. Maybe its some random hater that was trolling Brood War :p?
I was really leaning towards the 'some random profiteer' angle. I guess IEG is really behind this(?) but that really has happened before- someone claims copyright when neither party holds rights then in the confusion exploits the situation by uploading the same videos and taking profit sharing with youtube.
But old vods don't receive as much traffic so the longer I thought about it the more implausible it became.
Random hater: But why? You'd have to be a super villain to find this worth your time. IEG: Uh.. it doesn't make any sense but it's possible.. Third party that is yet to be discovered and holds rights: most likely.
I realize this is all wild theorycrafting but I've already typed it all out and I don't want to backspace... I'm very interested to know who's behind this.

Jon747 received strikes for uploading the english BW GOMTV VODs and later the first GSL. I believe most of the time the WCG VODs (at least WCG Korea..) were just fine.
I'm not sure if YouTube's policies have changed since then. It was really quite shocking to see 1000s of videos removed in an instant just because of a third strike. You would think at very least they could have frozen the account at let the videos already there remain... Such is YouTube.
Looks like EsportsTV is most likely working officially under OGN in some manner. They've been uploading SF2 Proleague cuts larger than the normal 15 minute user limit, which I would have done had I better means to edit and had an idea of how to edit rounds that go for half an hour. - I mention the SF2 Proleague, because I doubt there's a lot of people intereted in this Proleague thus the only entity that would take the time to record and upload it would be OGN or an affiliate.
I was wondering why all the SPL 11-12 VODs were either unlisted or removed.
Sucks for nevake
they are all removed now....looks like nevake is gonna be inactive for a while(at least in the main use of it) until something happens...really bummed about the vods being in parts.

If it's really OGN, I have no qualm with that. They're finally getting revenue from the English community via youtube money. So we don't have to pay, and they get something in return. Still, TL database has been far more reliable than anything out there, and I'm a bit shaky about anything else.
I don't mind if this is OGN doing this, as long as the VOD's are uploaded quickly we shouldn't have any problems with it since it is their own content. I have a feeling OGN will leave the older seasons alone unless they are going to upload them as well. It looks like they already had STX vs Woongjin up 7 hours ago which is pretty fast. Who knows they might even let youtube stream proleague for them some day. Which would be great for the foreign audience (doesn't have to be english casting) just a clear and lag free stream!
As long as they get the VODs up in time for my rebroadcasts, I don't really mind this too much. I'll just start using blip.tv to upload my SPL VODs. It's a bit unfortunate though, since a lot of newcomers get into BW through Youtube first, so this is kind of cutting off anybody who isn't a TLer and thus knows where to look.
I wish ogn actually release an official statement that they are trying to reach the foreign community and not come up with some weird channel call esport tv . Shutting down nevake vods like that isn't right.
If they are in fact reaching out to the foreign community, it would be solid if whoever was working on the Nevake account or someone who was working on getting the VODs up to the Small VOD Thread reached out to them to arrange something with them. I'm all for OGN making money off of us watching and am glad to see an official "method" for getting a hold of the games, but the spoiler free method TL manages in the Small VOD Thread is amazing and I don't wanna lose that. Total first world problem but still.
If anything, OGN should reach out to the people behind Nevake and make a deal. No paid employee is going to have the same dedication and love for the game that they have.
Yeah, I was wondering where all the VODs went, so I consulted the Small VODs thread here to find out about this ESportsTV thing. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.
Well, the Vods are pretty good quality, and you just have to stand a 1'30 ad. If they are gpoing to put all the games online, that would be great, but they should post something in the forums...
Also, Sayle for OGN foreign commentator. Make it happen!

YES
If Sayle wants to, of course. But who wouldn't want to get paid for what you already do?

We can post them in forums. That's no huge thing to do.
If it's really OGN behind this, I don't mind as long as they get the VODs up quickly. I do wish they would've reached out to us first - there's got to be someone working there who speaks English well enough to communicate, right? I do wish they wouldn't mess with Sayle, though. English commentary is nice, especially for newbies.
So it's just this season? They left all the older VOD on nevake alone, and are now uploading everything in better quality to reach out? If these two are true, I can only really get behind this.

They should have told us though. We are the biggest English sc community, after all. OGN should just register an account, the way GOM has.
Although given the relatively recent nature of the issue they might be stuck behind the 3-day post restriction.
If it is just OGN I'm fine with that but I really wish they posted/released an article informing us instead of slapping a warning on nevake/sayle without saying anything, especially since youtube only gives you 3 chances. Imagine if nevake was on it's last strike and that warning killed the entire channel. :\
Hopefully they clarify what's okay to be on nevake and don't flag other videos. x_x;

Would have been a nice gesture yes, but since this is probably a kespa-ogn related move, they have all the copyrights, so I think we should be happy they didn't take away what they aren't gonna provide.

Maybe this has something to do with the KeSPA/OGN/Blizzard deal that is only just now being revealed? Would be nice if Blizzard started supporting BW outside of Korea.

They probably don't have that perspective, remember the Fomos mess or something like Hiya thinking he's being trolled when told he has an audience on TL because it's a SC2 team.
This is kinda shitty though for them to do this to nevake, especially if he's been uploading vids for years now. I'm going to send them a message to not do that and I won't be subscribing to them. I hope you guys are with me on this!

If they are not taking old videos down and uploading new ones in better quality they are saving the trouble from whoever runs nevake, no? Please don't pester them against something that could be pretty cool.

Well... we still get to watch our precious proleague... Now we have to watch more ads but... At least we still have them! Sure took them long enough to care to do this, though...
Which was completely shot down by majority of TL BW community, but he went through with the article anyway.
you do realize that OGN ran the best possible scenario to make this work right.
EsportsTV has only rights to SK Planet Proleague and SF2 Proleague.
which means all content before SK Planet Proleague and SF1 is safe on nevake.
Our agency has rights to the southkorea e-sports. SPL / SF2 league will provide live and VOD services. Overseas users are delighted to offer better service.
Thanks. ^^ Come hang out frequently on our channel. We will provide LIVE services, VOD also will continue to be uploaded.
The ads support BW so really, stop complaining. :p
Still, I wonder if there is a service that allow a way to record english commentary as a .mp3 file and sync it to a youtube video. That would be a fun little firefox add-on project. Nothing illegal with that

I still remember that chaos. Fuck that D_so if nevake archives all went down. Boiling blood now...
It does seem likely that it is the followup from that ordeal, which seems pretty awesome to me. Not only can we stop being scared something terrible will happen from that, but we are given pretty much the best case scenario of the possible outcomes from that.
That said, it might be a good idea to keep backup copies of all the vods they are putting up though.
It would be pretty annoying if a few years down the track someone else got the licence, or they just stopped caring and suddenly we are left with a giant gap in tl database.
I guess the question left is whether or not people will be able to stream matches, or whether OGN will stream them themselves.
As long as we have a good, stable stream I don't think it really matters. I would prefer an English commentary though. Maybe OGN could run 2 streams: 1 in Korean and 1 in English (maybe Sayle commentating?)

They should see if they can get day9 or tastosis to commentate since they are a big corporation with money to pay them. That'll get lots more viewers.

I don't mind tasteless commentating proleague games again though.
Checked out the EsportsTV channel to watch the STX v Stars games and it all seems fine except that they break the longer vids up, which isn't a big deal for me. I don't see a problem with this - as long as Nevake can keep its excellent archive of videos it is surely a positive move for BW to have more awareness of and support for the foreign scene.

On a slightly somewhat bright side (not saying I support this whole ordeal or all since I'm very much against with it...):
It seems the youtube channel ESportsTV actually got a channel for today's CJ vs Samsung live event match set up, possibly in an attempt to stream it live:
Now I never watched a live stream video from youtube before but would it safe to say this is legit and can be a positive thing?
Honestly I prefer streams of these matches done by our very own TL members rather than some third-party no-name organization who try to forcibly tries to make us adjust to their policies and will with little to no choice. I just hope these actions and move by this organization won't reach over to our TL member streams and shut them down as well, because that just draws the whole freaking line! >_<
(Note: If you look at the live youtube video page description, it says the first set for CJ vs Khan is BeSt vs Stork. Fail much?)

Does anyone know in which countries IEG has the rights to proleague to? Is it only the US, because if it is then all you have to do is upload the vods to another website with servers hosted in another country.

I would assume its everywhere outside Korea. Or OGN themselves are hosting the content.
Wutttt? They could at least have said something before springing this, even if they are the rights holders... not a very good start in terms of their PR is it?
How is it a good thing? The vods are at a weird aspect ratio, as is the stream. and the stream buffered so much it ended up 25 minutes behind. we had a great system working previously, if they start taking streams down then we're going back into the dark ages =.=

excessive buffering into a 25 minute delay is pretty fucking horrible. I'll stick to restreaming, even if they come after tl/twitch and whatever and make us take them down etc.

they released a bulletin on their page on YT
SF2 and SPL league's broadcasting rights is in the South of Korea e-Sports Association(KeSPA).
Our agency(IEG) are responsible for the broadcasting rights of the KeSPA.
So, We are in charge of e-sports broadcasting rights of all.
Through the channel(esportsTV), we will provide live and VOD service.
If Someone violate any rights, the content will be blocked.
So it looks like they can have a sway on things outside of YT since they're holding the rights. A letter to TL and it's all over, and most likely TL will comply.

woah...missed out on that, but on the bright side they are doing a terrible job at blocking people out(again see nuke, maybe sayle has to do the same to avoid these guys).
I am going on the approach similar to XsebT's that I should just give feedback and help them improve their services to us.
until then I just need to download vods from the korean torrents...
Kespa seems to be doing an excellent job at getting the vods up really fast. The only complaint we might even have at this point is the aspect ratio, which I hope some Korean speaking TL member can notify them about. Assuming they haven't already.
The match finished an hour ago and all the vods are already up, this is how you stop "piracy"
I couldn't get that fucking stream to work today. =/ If they fuck up our awesome streaming system currently in use to make sure I can't get my BW fix I'll be really pissed off.

The 30 min late "live" stream was not ok.
Let's not condemn them based on their first broadcasts. I say we give them at least a month before we get really angry. They're obviously still working out the technical details.
I sent them a YouTube pm plus a small comment on their channel with regards to livestreaming....I'll suggest them alternate forms of streaming if they respond but right now i hope they respond and fix the aspect ratio.

There seems to be a lot of misinformation here so let me clear up exactly what happened.
On Monday, the 5th of December, VODs on nevake from the 30th of November had been blocked worldwide as they contained content from the International ESports Group. Initially I took little notice of this and submitted a copyright dispute and they worked fine. When I uploaded the VODs from the 6th of December I also got a content ID match but disputed it again.
Normally this ends it but here it put the dispute as ongoing, so it looked like the VODs would work until the dispute was resolved. If this was actually looked into they would probably have been blocked again, however I took no more notice until yesterday.
Yesterday I received a pm from ESportTV entirely in Korean. The title was "SK Proleague and SF2 Proleague" and the content said that they hold the broadcasting rights for KeSPA and that I had violated their copyright and was stealing content from one of their service providers, Nate, (these are the VODs that have Nate written in the bottom corner that I occasionally used lately) and that the request that we delete all KeSPA related content.
As the title said SK Proleague, I decided to just remove the current SK Proleague and leave older VODs for now. It is still not clear whether they want everything removed or not. I replied saying that I had removed all SK Proleague content and I just received another reply now asking if I was Korean, thanking me for taking prompt action and then saying "Satisfying the demands of overseas fans is more important to us than any youtube profits" (which is clearly untrue). They did not mention VODs before the current Proleague season.
From their perspective, they get revenue for their VODs, some of the VODs from the first week of ProLeague got over 8,000 views on nevake and only a few hundred on their channel. If, for example, they get a cent per viewer, then they would lose $80 per VOD on nevake so I can understand why they were annoyed.
What all this means and how it affects us
Current VODs will no longer be uploaded to nevake, you can find them on: http://www.youtube.com/user/ESportsTV and I will link their VODs to the Small VOD Thread.
Regarding streams, it will be the same situation, they live stream on YouTube and get revenue from the viewers. However I cannot envisage them shutting streams down. Their level of english seems poor so I cannot see them finding streams easily.
Unfortunately their content ID matching also means that English commentaries on YouTube will now get flagged as being IEG as it will match the video (even if you use a different source) to theirs, unless you perhaps mirror the video it will give a content ID match for VODs that have happened since the 30th of November. I suggest anyone who commentates send them a pm about this, perhaps they will let commentaries off.
In principle this service should be okay. We have a group with a direct affiliation with Kespa and OGN providing live streams and then providing VODs immediately after. If they continue to provide VODs at this rate (faster than they even get them to the OGN website) and they do not require any more content removed from nevake then this is fine. If, however, they require the removal of over 11,000 VODs which they most certainly will not replace, then this is not a good thing.
Also, their VODs have a dumb 16: 9 aspect ratio and their stream falls significantly behind. Basically the work of their paid employees will not be as professional as our volunteers. And their way of introducing themselves by causing some VODs on nevake and Sayle to be blocked worldwide and sending me a pm asking me to remove every Kepsa related VOD is not the best start.
Please note too that a content ID Match is not the same as a copyright strike, nevake still has no copyright strikes. However they can ask us to remove anything and realistically we have to comply.
Okay thanks moktira! can you email them about the 16 problem as its the only thing stopping me (and im guessing a lot of other people) from watching the vods............
On December 08 2011 23:18 moktira wrote: I suggest anyone who commentates send them a pm about this, perhaps they will let commentaries off.
Even if they agree to let English commentaries slide, isn't the content matching automatic so my videos would get flagged anyway?
Yeah, it is automatic but perhaps they could make an exception for your channel or something? I don't know exactly, it's probably worth pming them and asking. I suppose you could also just continue disputing copyrights and see if anything happens.

They have to start sometime. Better late then never etc.
I would also like to ask everyone to not message them about this issue. There is just too much potential for miscommuniction, and I don't believe they can really unterstand who speaks for TL officially and who doesn't.
Edit: This issue = Nevake account / copyright questions

what I have done seems like it would be hard for them to understand what I was saying...but still I don't know what else to do either because how else do I expect them to know..
Isn't Special Force played before BW almost every broadcast? Maybe they just forget to revert the settings to 4 : 3 from 16 : 9(when recording the vod's).

SF is played after BW. It's 16: 9 because they probably get it from the same source as Nate's VODs, which are also 16: 9.

Does Nate have a live stream? You can only view that in Korea now actually. It still doesn't really explain why they use 16: 9, I can't think of any reason you'd use it for BW.
If you put yt:stretch=4:3 into the tags on a YouTube video if fixes it, that's how I had the ones from Nate up in the correct aspect ratio, so it's really easy for them to fix. Not sure about the live stream though.
This! I prefer watching games from my HDD, so I'd like to know whether the torrents are going to be continued, moktira :D ?
ANYONE can upload stuff to the tracker. Maybe you should do it.
I don't have the VODs TT
Sign up for Korean tracker. Download torrent file. Use http://torrenteditor.com/ to add Teamliquid announce URL. Save it to computer and upload to teamliquid tracker.
I find it very odd that KeSPA thinks this type of action, which only jeopardizes the largest VOD archive easily accessible by foreigners, has the foreign community's best interests in mind. I hope (and expect, if kespa is sane at all) that some good communication between TL and IEG can both resolve the issue and possibly put us in a better spot than before (best case scenario, a partnership could get nevake an "official" tag)
First, what's wrong with Kespa opening a YouTube channel and provide their own contents for (practically) free ? This is only a good thing. They channel has ads yes but first, it's their own contents and second, they are a non-profit, so the money will go back to developping Esport.
Next, from the email they responded to Mortika it's just obvious that they will let the old VODs on Nevake alone and just prevent people from uploading Vods of the current season. It's good for Esport because people will just watch Vods in their channel and indirectly support Esport by viewing ads, what's the point of having 2 channel uploading at the same time ? It's just a waste of time and effort and a loss of money for esport. Until now they don't ask to remove old Vods, so there's nothing wrong with it.
Lastly, they still didn't take any actions about streams yet, and until they do something bad (shut down restreams...) they are , for now, just providing another stream for esport, this can only be a good thing. And I think they won't shut down restreams at all, so for now they are doing good, so please stop stupid "speculations" lol.

I think that currently, only SPL 11-12 is claimed.
@kamikami While mass panic is probably the wrong way to go, I think there is some cause for gloomy caution. They jumped in and started blocking content without any sort of information or communication. Without communication it's doubtful they can understand our position and what is best for our community (having English commentators casting on vod's for instance.) Things might work out, but the way things started isn't the best sign in my opinion.
seriously.wtf happen with the people here, without kespa bw not live 10 years.without kespa there is not proleague not team 8.u really think kespa want kill bw ?.also they have all the right to blocked all the vods out kespa channel-
No, I don't think anyone thinks Kespa wants to kill BW. But Kespa has made some pretty dumb decisions in the past. This kinda got lost in the whole SC2 vs BW; Blizzard vs Kespa fiasco particularly with some very vocal Kespa apologists like translator Milkis. Intentions and actions do not always match and Kespa is faaar from perfect. Without communication, we are bound to get the short end of the stick.

The thing is, the next step up from forcing us to remove VODs from this season is to remove VODs from past seasons as well. It's actually not very clear at the moment whether they want us to remove those. As far as I know the people running nevake are currently removing VODs of this season and seeing if they still get messages from IEG. Rather than just sitting back and saying "ok" when KeSPA shows that they're actually taking some sort of action in the foreign scene, we should work proactively to keep our archive and streams secure, as well as establishing a partnership if possible.
EDIT: if anything, I'd say it's likely that they ask us to take down old videos as well. As far as we know, IEG has not purchased rights to the current SPL season, but they did get the rights for 2007~2010 from KeSPA.
I'd like to see some sort of confirmation that IEG even has the rights to this season. I thought KeSPA couldn't sell the rights anymore, since they're licensing them from Blizzard?
We do not take away Naveke efforts. Thanks to his efforts. If possible, I want to cooperate with him.
Anyway, Through this channel, you will be able to enjoy e-sports. Please cheer for us."
Now mind you. I did not even metion nevake nor the vods of any kind.
Here is what I sent to them eariler.
"I was wondering if you thought of using a better streaming service to broadcast live stream of the starcraft games.
Youtube for us users was laggy and was unenjoyable. If you use a service like ustream or own3d. You can make a better streaming service for all foreign fans."
So I think they are giving out a standard response to everyone who sends them e-mail in english.
I actually like the youtube service, the quality is really good. If only they would add a chat service for the yt stream or open a thread here so we can communicate with them directly...
The stream looked much better today till the 2 hour mark when it randomly decided to go 5 minutes back in time for me. If they completely fix lag and properly deinterlace, it would be pretty sweet.

They have fixed the aspect ratio now, so it's in 4:3.
So they are listening to feedback which is encouraging. Also they have said no more about removing old VODs from nevake so far, they just thanked me for taking down the SK Proleague ones. Hopefully they'll leave nevake alone now.

Yeah, and to somehow make exceptions for content id matches for english commentators. The delay wasn't as bad today as yesterday so maybe they're working on it.
http://www.youtube.com/user/NukeTheStars was talking to them it seems. It would be nice if you guys could set up a thing where they won't take down commentaries uploaded after like a week or so from the original game.

u sure ??????????
Yeah, it is rather blurry, the supply counts, for example, are quite hard to make out.
I think it is a good idea to email them and leave them comments on their youtube page to leave the english commentaries alone. I didn't mind their late and underwhelming effort to branch out at first, but I knew they were much more likely to do more harm then good.
They need to start a fucking dialogue with us TL people about what they're trying to do and accomplish etc, and not shut things down without any warning. =/ Or else they will alienate the entire foreign fanbase.

This. Taking down Nuke's videos is just gonna stifle the foreign brood war scene. I can understand stoping moktira (no offense) but to hit English commentators, especially without offering an alternative.
Personally I don't really care cause I've learned to watch it in Korean. But the only way I was able to start watching in Korean was through English commentaries (vilotak ftw!). It really helps for lower level players to understand the game as good casters can really bring out the subtleties of this beautiful game.

Exactly what I was thinking. This is a nice effort if you look at it in the long run (assuming they're going to have some alternative for us) but just jumping at our resources and shutting them down feels like a goddamn hostile take over and occupation.
On December 13 2011 05:38 TheShimmy wrote: Nuke has found a way to fight this apparently. So English commentary could possibly survive. Perhaps Nevake could take the same measures?
Oh yeah, he mentioned a "Plan B' on one of his latest vods. Any idea on what it is yet?
the need to put subtitles - all they need really. personally english casts over pro korean games ruin the whole experience for me. with the TSL and foreign tourneys its great, but i just dont like english voices over pro korean games.
i notice that the TLPD is not being updated with new vod links is this impossible now that theyre not on nevake, or can we just link to the esportstv vods? the TLPD vods are/have been such an amazingly useful feature, I really hope we can continue to update them.
I think we should use TLPD links as a bargaining chip. Our community here at TL is a potential funnel of users for them, and we could help them acquire a great mass of views. Views = $$$ (which is apparently what they are after). However, we might be able to bargain for some sort of exception/partnership for specific english casters like Nuke.
There is a way to have this be a win/win for all parties involved, but a conversation needs to occur between a TL representative and an IEG representative.
I've sent them a plea in English, but haven't heard an response. We need a translator with an official association with TL to contact them to inquire about possible partnerships.
Who can do this!?
PS, Just finished reading the Glider thread and I'm in "unite Esports and fight" mode.
ESportsTV just put this on their Youtube channel as a Bulletin:
ESportsTV: On the one hand, it is sorry that stop commentary service impatiently. most are blocked automatically by YouTube system. I request comprehension about this segment to you. Now, I will listen your advice. If open beta period passes, shortcomings of our channel may be ameliorated. And, English commentary service also will prepare. thankU
ESportsTV: We will be good if many foreigners enjoyed e-sports. We can produce contents efficiently than someone in Korea. So, we began service in YouTube. We are providing VOD service with real-time live of Korean SPL/SF2 league. However, we were not to consider. It is English commentary service. Now, we can not provide English commentary service. because many foreign fans suffer discomfort, we permit english commentary service. We will not stop English commentary services of other channel from today. <---- AWWWW YEAH
That's awesome news, but how do we prevent the videos from getting flagged in the first place? As they said, the Youtube content matching is automatic and it would be a huge hassle to have to dispute copyright on every single video (not to mention, unlimited video length would be disabled on the channel until disputes are resolved).

Change the name of the video title for exmaple: "SPL CJvT8 1,2,3,4,5" or maybe make it less obvious (use enigma code :p)

The video name has nothing to do with it. The content matching system checks the actual video/audio. Also, the point is to have them not flag us in the first place, not find fancy ways of dodging the content matcher.

Probably yes, but I don't really know. And if there is, it would most likely require IEG to tell Youtube which channels to exempt from content matching in a process that may be difficult for them considering the level of English they've shown so far.
If someone plans to get in contact with EsportsTV then I would emplore you to tell them about the issues that people from certain countries (such as mine) are facing, namely that we simply cannot watch any of the live PL coverage. For now, we have reliable streamers who does the job admirably, but there will of course come a time when, like today, problems arise and the only other stream available is the one provided by EsportsTV. Which is why I think it's important to get this fixed asap.
I have already written to them on their youtube account to inform them of this issue and suggest that others do the same. And as I said, if someone knows of some other, perhaps more reliable means of getting in touch with them to bring this problem to their attention then please do so on the behalf of me and everyone else who suffers this same issue. It would be really appreciated.

"Now" means at this time. Maybe or maybe not they might do something in the future. Obviously if there were a big foreign market, they would consider paying English casters and giving good production values. For now they say 'we'll let them do their own commentaries' because they want to see if we are big enough. If Sayle's lucky maybe in a year he'll have a job like Tasteless
I'm disappointed in today's match's audio desync tho. I hope they'll fix that.
Awesome news!! In retrospect it will be a lot better to have everything 'officially' uploaded to Youtube without the semi-fear/unknowing of it getting taken down / our whole database getting wiped out (RIP Jon747). I know its backed up, but its gonna take a lot of work to re-up all the vods. Its a lot better this way And its awesome to see EsportsTV work with us and move forward (aspect ratio fix, english vods, etc.)
Also, an update from Nukes twitter:
Trying to get a confirmation message, but it looks like I might be able to get back to some good old-fashioned commentary soon.. maybe!
Wow i never noticed this, gee that's horrible. Though i'm inclined to believe that my occasional problems with vods not being available is YT/GEMA cockblocking germans more than this. Still not a thing our community needs in these times, even if i see their point.
Huge thanks you deal with all this stuff Mokti!
Edit: Actually on a sidenote can i highjack this a bit? I didn't see anybody posting this so if anybody here has insight why apparently many Germans and Swedes can't watch the EsportsTV livestream (as of todays PL game, says an error ocurred video not available, VODs work fine) it would be heartily appreciated.

Actually, I never deleted the previous casts, I just changed them to 'unlisted' so you couldn't search for them on Youtube. I think Nuke did the same (although he made them 'private'). The point is, all the videos he put back were never taken down in the first place, so I still don't know what happens if we try to upload a new one. I will set all my 'unlisted' videos back to 'public' and try a test upload of one new VOD to see if we get content-matched.

Yeah, I just set that series to private. I deleted my most recent vod, however, because it gave me a copyright notice. I think I may have been the only one to get an actual copyright notice during this whole ordeal, which is strange. I'm guessing we'll have to kick each new upload back to EsportsTV for verification through a counter-claim. Kind of annoying, although I'm more scared that they're going to misclick and give me another copyright notice ;_;
Luckily, they mentioned that they had a translator on the way soon, so all the miscommunication should be worked out in the future. I sent them a message to independently confirm that I could start back up with casts, and the guy apologized for his English. I felt kinda bad.

No, nevake and I both got copyright notices. The most annoying thing for me in regards to the copyright notices is that it removes my ability to upload videos longer than 15 minutes. As far as I know, this doesn't happen to nevake (and presumably not to you either) because his account is much older than mine. That's why I don't really want to risk it and have it affect my uploads of foreign event casts.
The translator thing is certainly good news, but makes me wonder why they didn't have a translator to begin with. You shouldn't feel bad, it was a mistake on their part.
Just wondering... Why dejavu didnt have any problems with his commentaries?? ----- They should make a contract with nuke and sayle so they can finally have a carreer as proffesional starcraft broodwar comentators, oh yeah

The point is, all the videos he put back were never taken down in the first place, so I still don't know what happens if we try to upload a new one. I will set all my 'unlisted' videos back to 'public' and try a test upload of one new VOD to see if we get content-matched.
Yeah, I just set that series to private. I deleted my most recent vod, however, because it gave me a copyright notice. I think I may have been the only one to get an actual copyright notice during this whole ordeal, which is strange. I'm guessing we'll have to kick each new upload back to EsportsTV for verification through a counter-claim. Kind of annoying, although I'm more scared that they're going to misclick and give me another copyright notice ;_;
A copyright strike is different to a content ID match, if you get three copyright strikes they ban you (this is what happened to Jon747), I didn't get a strike on nevake, just content ID matches and videos being blocked, not sure why Nuke got one, but I did unlist VODs quite quickly, as did you, so maybe they gave Nuke a strike just to prove they were serious as that was a bit later. Either way I do think it's very unfair that he got a strike at all but I'm glad this is being resolved. They are listening to feedback which is good.
guys can any1 knowledgeable answer my question about the TLPD links? is it legal to add links to the esportstv vods instead of nevake ones to the database? Will this be implemented? At the moment all the new games have no vods attached, even though there are vods available
On December 16 2011 08:59 Antisocialmunky wrote: TLPD should probably start to be linke to EsportsTV. Maybe Mok could upload and unlist VODs as well just incase.
he can't do that , because if he uploads the proleague matches it would get id match by the you tube system and the video is block .
These copyright claims seem like bullshit to me. If these people really cared about the foreign scene then they would have reached out to us sooner. Otherwise they are just hurting the foreign scene with these copyright claims that have 0 substance from what I read.
I have linked all the new VODs to TLPD, sorry for the delay. I've been busy with exams for the last couple of days, and was also not sure whether or not we were going to link EsportsTV VODs. Anyways, I will try to add them as fast as possible from now on!
Also, please pm me if there is anything I can help you with regarding VODs and/or TLPD!

I didn't see anybody posting this so if anybody here has insight why apparently many Germans and Swedes can't watch the EsportsTV livestream (as of todays PL game, says an error ocurred video not available, VODs work fine) it would be heartily appreciated.
Its all thanks to our good law-system... They need a licence from the mediainstitute (?) or arent sure about that,so they cut off germany. Not sure about sweden though, they may have a similar system.
It isnt sure yet if or when it will be available, but expect never...

I got content ID matches on my most recent commentaries too. I pmed and disputed them myself. Didn't post anything in here because nothing new or different with my situation. Though everything is online and working again now.

I just tried uploading a test video (BeSt vs Crazy-Hydra played on Dec 9) and it got content matched. However, the video wasn't blocked; it says it's still available worldwide with ads. Presumably IEG is getting this ad revenue so we can start uploading to Youtube again and all is fine and dandy?
I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I'm not sure it warrants a new thread. On the new Esports youtube channel thing, what is this other game that they are uploading videos of?

Yeah, if it's content ID matched and not blocked that's fine, it probably will put an ad at the beginning which IEG will get revenue for and it might say something about them in the description but this is fine. Will this affect whether you get full length uploads or not though? Probably won't.

Doesn't affect the full length uploads, I still have those and I now have 2 series uploaded and content matched with ads. Looks like IEG just changed their Youtube policy from blocking videos to just putting ads on them. I think all commentators can resume uploading. Yay!
Will mokitra still be uploading the torrents? I prefer to use them, but since 18th there is nothing new.. Is it lack of time or you (he) can't do it anymore?
This is really annoying, who is esportsTV. I hope this isn't because of that crazy guy who posted an article on fomos and said to cease and desist nevake.

Do you happen to have a torrent for these vods instead...? or backed up somewhere?
On December 18 2011 05:39 NB wrote: you guys should just send an email to blizzard and make them resolve this from the top down.... it will be slower but the process is guarantee...
1, This would do more harm than good. Blizzard would more then likely end up shutting down Nevake.
2, IEG is not trying to shut nevake down. Nothing (afaik) from before the current season has been taken down. I assume this will be fine as long as IEG uploads current vods and Nevake does not. Either way vods are ebing uploaded.
3, IEG is profiting from the vods, this is fine imo. This means it might auctally be profitable for KeSPA to get involved in the foreign bw scene. Which in turn is better for us all.
4, IEG seems to be firendly and is willing to work with everyone. I don't consider that bad at all.
We need to stop putting such a negative spin on everything and start looking at the bright side. People are taking an interest in the foreign audience. I don't care as long as it makes people happy, vods are being uploded, no? then as long as that happens and Nevake keeps his channel online and working. We have nothing to fear.
IEG is providing a service that is for us. They want to please us. They want to work with us and work for the foreign audience.
If they stop uploading videos and they stop providing the content. Then nevake will be free to upload again afaik.
I don't see a negative from this. I just see positives.

That is pretty neat. If you can do your content and they get the ad revenue, well that's just an amazing trade off. Has anyone tried contacting them (in Korean) about the concerns on low stream quality on youtube? If we can give them our viewership and help support Korean Esports we should almost definitely do that. If they can fix the quality the link on TL should link directly to their stream and not a restream.
What's the best way to reach them in english? I'm getting pissed off at the lack of sync between audio and video. Posting on the youtube channel doesn't seem to help.

Don't forget some of the games randomly being sped up! That is even more annoying.
Seriously, is there any way we can get them to fix their shit?
