Fuck, I really should have bought tickets. 4 S class BW players AND the GSL finals AND Blizzcon tournament AND Foo Fighters? I hate being such a cheapskate.

It's not that I loathe SC2, I just like Brood War better. But then there's literally 50000 people that think that SC2 is the hottest shit on Earth, and are very vocal about it. Given the nature of this site nowadays it kinda gets pushed into my vision field all the time, and due to the nature of some individuals it can get a bit... irksome. The worst offenders are the people that spend their time bashing LoL for requiring less skill. At least they have the remedial part of being mildly funny.

That's just the way I feel tho, it varies from person to person obviously

Well, this guy is the perfect example:

Pretty sure of that too, but some could like nada did, play sc2 and go to school at the same time.

I mean, look at Yellow. He had a go at SC2. Then he went on to do some commercials for Poker.

But if anything, it'll just feel good for a lot of us who have been saying that when the real pros switch over (I always shake my head when people say: OMG MC so pro), then they'll just show how dominant top BW players are compared with everyone else (and show you guys that what Intrigue wrote back then was 100% true).

I don't understand why people still try to compare sc2 pros with bw pros. Nestea was bad at bw and now he is one of the best players in the world, forgg was quite good at bw and played sc2 since season one but doesn't have any results (I heard his games were far from exceptional when he was playing some koth) except being high ranked on ladder, which many code b players do too. Maybe he didn't play it seriously but still.

It's an evidence bw pros will be good at sc2 if they train for it,they would be good at every rts because they have amazing apm, mechanics,... but sc2 and bw are different games so it's not because you were better than someone in bw that you will be better than him in sc2.

The reason why they're good is because there's no other competition.

Forgg just started, though he wasn't the greatest at BW either. The guy just 2faced in every TvP (even though he was damn good at it).

it is hilarious and sad to see the hurt of some bw people if these players did sc2 exhibition matches. so what if they did? doesn't mean they won't stop doing bw. are you really going to restrict them from playing sc2 just because you don't like it? no matter what they do i'll enjoy whatever they show off at blizzcon

I think Flash didn't go because of the obvious. He's recovering from surgery still. If the 4 players are going to be playing, than Flash not going is the reason why. Wouldn't it have been awesome though if, all if TBLS went? lol.

Watch the recent OSL finals, Fantasy vs Jangbi. There's just so many things to it which make me prefer it. The skill ceiling implications mean good macro is actually an impressive thing, good spellcasting is impressive and not the same every game, the strategies possible are very diverse due to many factors. Players can have unique styles of play is one thing i like particularly, and i don't mean just in the sense that IdrA is a macro player. Until you watched and played BW for a while it's probably not clear, but personally i don't ever see a reason to stop spectating and playing.

I don't want to go into a detailed explanation of all the differences and problems i see in SC2 but one main thought that came to mind while watching some of the MLG games; combat is a main part of the game, yet battles between large armies can be over in seconds? Even banelings which are sort of an interesting idea are a big part of the problem simply by making tons of supply disappear at once. Even a one time large army vs large army situation in BW felt more spaced out and longer, here's a really nice engagement example:

It's hard to see why it's impressive until you played the game too but the Zerg's ability to pull off that was incredible and yet it still didn't break the defence.

The reason why they're good is because there's no other competition.

if they are going to play smth at all, no chance for it to be BW imo. Perhaps blizzard will make HoTS showmatches of Bisu vs JD and fanta vs JangBi. I dont think they will let them play vs any of the sc2 pros to avoid making them look bad... really excited about it in any case, I dont mind Bisu switching to sc2 if he is going to change smth about dat PvZ again

hopefully these players will see how big SC2 is in USA and want to give it a whirl. I imagine Flash declined due to rehab. Hopefully the US media won't ask too many silly questions and just let the players play.

He's the most winningest. However, his prime was back in the day. Recently, he's been on the back foot in BW, and who can blame him? Look at the competition - Flash, Jaedong, etc. Take Boxer for example - he has the legendary status, but no one is going to say that he'd have an easy time winning a starleague. From what I remember, he still had pretty solid mechanics, but not quite on the current top dog level.

HotS showmatches with those four would be quite sick, I imagine, and a good way to garner publicity for it. Fantasy vs Jangbi match so soon after the OSL has the potential to be hilarious by itself.

I think BW players are probably a bit apprehensive because if these players were to switch to SC2, it would be a huge blow to the future of BW.
Still, I don't think that justifies the ganking of legitimate comments of people who want to see them switch. Also, it's just a fallacious argument to say that a BW player who was ranked above MVP in BW will be able to outcompete him in SC2. To say that is to completely ignore the level of MVP's play. Nada, Boxer and July were top BW players, but they're not really close to MVP in SC2.

Throughout SC:BW's history, the level of play continually increased. Boxer used to be the best, but even at his best he couldn't compete with the top pros nowadays. Nada took over the reigns after Boxer and he was the best for a while, but the level of play continued to increase. These guys didn't drop off the BW map because they got worse, rather because everyone around them got better. I know it may be blasphemous to say, but even though MVP never had any great accomplishments in BW like July or Boxer or Nada, his level of play at the time he switched was higher than aforementioned players' levels at their peaks. MVP was better at BW than July or Boxer or Nada, but so was everyone else he was playing against so he never had the results of those players.

It's similar to how Fruitdealer was champion of SC2 until others were able to surpass him. In FD's case, you're talking only a year so the gap is still not that great, but in the case of someone like Boxer, it's been 10 years since he was king and there is just absolutely no way he could compete against the likes of MVP in BW.

I dunno why this is even a discussion, it's been clearly stated that MVP was the best player that switched, so his results in SC2 are not surprising. Which is why people think other players who were clearly better than MVP in a more mechanically difficult game would do better if they switched. You could say that he's had a head start advantage but it seems like people are able to pick up the game pretty quickly.
