The smartest thing Blizzard can do it "We'll sponsor a BW team and help Korean BW get through this global depression, and in exchange you agree to show GSL on OGN a bit down the line", or something of that same idea. Blizz wants the SC2 Korean scene to be big enough to support Korean players (who remain top tier and big draws when they come to foreign SC2 events), but have probably given up on the idea that SC2 is going to replace BW in Korea in the next five years, if ever.

Win-win for everyone, really. Korean BW gets a needed sponsorship injection, and Korean SC2 keeps out of bankruptcy, which helps foreign SC2 stay a big deal.

That's all speculation, of course. But I think this is a good indication that Blizz has decided they can make more money working with BW than working against it, and fans of both games should be happy about that.

Edit: If Blizz is having BW pros come over to do anything SC2 related, that'd be an intensely stupid move, PR-wise.

Would be cool to have some SC:BW showmatches between them. Doubt they'd play sc2, and there's no point for them really to do so.

I think this is going to be really interesting to see. All of these players with a very vocal fanbase coming over and really being exposed to that - I'm excited to watch their reactions to that.

Agreed. Hopefully they'll have a similar experience to what Boxer got when he came over, and look how many times he's been to international tournaments since. I realise it's not the same for BW (what with the lack of international tournaments), but at the very least they will get to see what kind of fan base they have outside of Korea.

I reeeaaaally hope they have some show-matches planned XD

Most of us will be interested to see them play the new game. Its a new age and current esports needs them to transfer over.

See, comments like this make people rage. Vague terms like "current esports need them to transfer over" does not mean anything. There is already an established scene in Korea for BW and it is huge. They don't need to do anything unless they want to. And all those four have quite lucrative deals and are playing really well at the moment. There is no reason to switch if not for some weird fantasy (pun intended)

I think It is going to be a nice two-way exposure between SC2 and BW scenes, which is going to benefit both through attracting interest.

If jaedong was stork it would have been awesome to have a for fun 2v2 between SKT and samsung khan at blizzcon, still I wish I could go there to see it leave I'd probably faint from nerdgasms if I got an autograph or photo of any of them myself.

I don't think Blizzard will sponsor a team since it's just to expensive and their name is already in the boots etc. I do think they might consider supporting the BW scene more since they now make money from it and they benefit from it when it survives.

Anyway on topic: It's nice they're coming to blizzcon I hope for some BW and maybe some sc2 showmatches would be fn to see!

SC2 showmatches?

Fantasy with no Vultures
Bisu with no Corsair/Reaver
Jangbi can't micro Carriers or do a real Storm

Jaedong can do uhhh... 400 APM larva injects and creep spread? Or he can play ZvT and get this Mutalisks shot at off screen by Thors, that'll piss him off.

Like realistically, I don't see them doing anything different in SC2. Doubt they'll find anything special that's not known that they can exploit in the short time they'll have played it (if those things even exist at all).

Hopefully lots of people will get to meet them and get their signatures and whatnot. And maybe there'll be less people going "Who is Jaedong?" when I mention him in SC2. I mean come on -.-
MMOs kill APM. However Proleague plus BW Proscene music increase APM -> 100. 이제동 Fighting! Highest ranked Jaedong owner in FPL10 = clearly #1 Jaedong fan~! <- Keeping my sig from 2010

all in all, they will either play BW or wont play anything at all, blizzard just want to try to seduce them into sc2, but it will backfire and sc2 fans will be seduced by BW.

SC2 has its problems, and so did SC1 a year after release. The vast majority of foreigner BW fans weren't even around a year after SC1's release.

remember how Broodwar didn't have a predecessor that was played professionally for 11 years prior to its release

Since when did Vanilla SC proscene lasted for 11 years?? At most it was 2 years.

I was saying BW was played professionally for 11 years before SC2 was released. I worded it badly but w/e I'm tired

basically 1 year old BW is not comparable at all to 1 year old SC2

How narrow-minded can one get?

I am sceptical of that "foreign fanbase". I believe that it is mostly bandwaggoning and I doubt many of these "fans" have seen many games of these players. And while these names maybe prominent on TL, the majority of Blizzcon won't consist of TL. (I think)

I have to disagree. The sc2 scene, full of kids (sort of like myself) who have only heard names like "Bisu" and "jaedong" in whispers that portend the epicness they will bring would be fucking HYPED to see them play sc2. Furthermore, some Korean SCBW and SC2 players have said in order for the fans to switch, the big names need to switch. Having the BWers play SC2 would be excellent PR wise. I'm not sure if thats what they're going to do, however.

Also I don't think Blizz can make money off BW anymore. Not really sure how you think they can...?

Remember when Boxer came over? People went nuts at his showmatch at Blizzcon, the crowd after his games vs Rain at MLG was INSANE...there's certainly a foreign fanbase.

And yes, I realize that both of those references are when he was playing SC2, but icons like Boxer, Jaedong, Flash, etc are pretty big in the foreign fandom.

They released they would show Heart of the Swarm multiplayer gameplay at Blizzcon, didnt they? Since no one is experienced with the expansion it would make more logic to make them play a showmatch on that. Well, at least i hope/dream so... =D

SC2 will never get such Korean dominance as BW given the game design, foreigners were never behind strategically that much in BW, it was mostly mechanics and hard work. I think Blizzard is fighting for the biggest piece of pie which is 4-5 years of global just only slightly / medium Korean favored Starcraft 2 which is what is happening now. If the top of the cream players will be separated from SC2 than it will never fall into total dominance which is big for Blizzard and their business.

I mean No LAN gives them already enough power to control every tourney with prize pool bigger than 5k$, kinda shows they are smart enough to comprehend the whole situation. Remember how fast they spotted Huk sharing TLO account, they SEE. Conspiration theories!!11
