don't get me wrong, BW is great it's just that I've played almost no BW last year and this year compared to how I was playing 10 games max a day for 6 months back in 2009 (not always iccup but also with friends on LAN.)

There's instructions to play on Fish and Brain, but there is a lot steps including language packs, changing registry permissions etc. We have the step by step walkthroughs, but just by the amount of steps and the sorts of steps, it does make it harder. I still haven't bothered yet. seriously? Two steps: 1. download and install minilauncher or even chaos or wdetector, as long as it has the lanlatency plugin. 2. download and execute the .reg file to have all of the servers. when joining fish it will change your registry indeed, but if you open iccup launcher it will also change your registry by adding iccup to it, so switching between servers is still easy if you close the iccup launcher and open it again before playing on iccup. Easy as that, tbh, all the other stuff is just extra. oh, and idk if I did something wrong as my windows is in german but i once followed the registry fix thingy and it doesn't work for me (maybe i just did something wrong, but tbh, i don't need it anyway).

That being said, i wish i could play BW again but i have a Win7 sadly I hear lots of people saying about the Win 7 problems. What is it? Personally I never had any problems on my 2 Win 7 laptops.

The only problem I get is an RT error when I go window mode with ICCup Launcher or Chaos Launcher. Everything works fine with MiniLauncher. I only play window mode though, so I don't know any fullscreen problems.

There's instructions to play on Fish and Brain, but there is a lot steps including language packs, changing registry permissions etc. We have the step by step walkthroughs, but just by the amount of steps and the sorts of steps, it does make it harder. I still haven't bothered yet. iCCup has a good step by step, but one thing I've noticed is there absolutely no mention of port forwarding. I don't know for how many people this is an issue, but it's quite possible for someone to go quite a few seasons and never understand why people won't join your games. Port forwarding itself, although simple once you know it, does seem rather complicated you've never done it before. And itself could be a hindrance to playing. Both of these are technical issues and I'm not sure necessarily what can be done about it, but I think technical things can be just as much a hindrance. And the final thing is- we a have a few English casters holding it down like a boss and I wouldn't want to create extra work for them and have them burn out. But it would be nice if there were were a few more english casted vods- particularly of the Korean proleagues. Is there any way offloading the recording and uploading job to other people? But the main thing, is if there are a few english casted vods, I almost wonder if we had a dedicated thread for all english casters. The combined caster thread would be so that new casters aren't lost in the shuffle and because I don't think we have many casters regularly uploading like Day9. And if there is, then apologies to the caster, but that would also seem to indicate that we need better promotion in the BW General section. If there is a really big caster, then they could have their own thread. I don't know, maybe it's a dumb idea, but I'm just throwing it out there. The main idea is finding a way to highlight the various efforts that are already going on. I think if you're just starting BW it's still better that you play on iccup since there's actually people you speak english with. That language barrier on fish/brain can be a bit intimidating and I assume it would be even worse for someone just starting. Also go channel op teamliquid ^^, that's the central place for TL people to meet. Port forwarding is done differently on different systems so it's hard to write something about it but you're right there's no mention of port forwarding on iccup. With that said, portforward.com is a decent site if anyone has problems with that. Your suggestion for creating a thread for the list of casters is good. I don't know any of the casters except sayle, nukethestars, eton and XIJABERWALKIX (think he stopped casting though but he was good). Maybe you can start one to get more exposure for the other casters. ![]()

As opposed to a SC2 player that can probably spend days browsing the SC2 forums. If you ask for advice in BW, you get A, B level players with perfect replys, ending topics right then and there. So, a forum where new players can talk to other new players. Create clans, hold tourneys, advance together, challenge the seniors. Also, as has been mentioned, more english casts. ESPECIALLY dual and tripple casts. These are the most fun to listen to because of the dynamics between the casters. This is where A & B level players can help out. Hahaha, for some reason I just found that hilarious after it made me think about the SC2 strategy section. Just waiting for any updates during off-season like right now, and watch if my favorite players/team play and read the recommended section if there are other good games. don't get me wrong, BW is great it's just that I've played almost no BW last year and this year compared to how I was playing 10 games max a day for 6 months back in 2009 (not always iccup but also with friends on LAN.) i feel bad because i mostly just play with friends now and so it's almost like i dont really contribute to the BW-playing scene lol. it just got so hard to ladder this year on ICCUP. Once I got past D it was so hard to find games because I can't host games. it will be so much easier to ladder on fish once I get the 30 games played though (which is fucking even harder to get games vs strangers so I am slowly adding games to that playing vs friends). i know a lot of people that only watch BW nowdays and I wonder why they dont want to play anymore. I know it's a hard game and we are all terrible, but it's still a fucking blast. I guess a lot of that is having friends to play with though.

in sc2 there is a HUGE difference (i came from there, not trying to compare but showing where i come from) in how bad someone actually is in bronze (which is the same as D) and how bad a player is who is D. for me it seems any D player can be masters in sc2 (i'm masters and sc2 and i get my ass handed to me here). it just seems at this point in time its really hard starting up from scratch? i guess.

I really don't think any would be interested unless there's significant enough money on the line, and if there was such a money on the line it would probably be better spent on another promotional activity imo. Dragging in people who have left BW behind to play a couple of games doesn't strike me as something that can have any significant benefits. ![]()
