Anyway my point wasn't the above, in SC2 you can make 80k~ a month from winning GSL, Means jaedong would need to win 3 out of 12 GSLs a year to make equal or more than he does now. If what everyone thinks about a real BW player switching to SC2 would rip the scene up is true then this would be no problem at all for him, he would probably even be able to take home more like 6-7 GSLs in a year. That's well more than doubling his salary if we're being optimistic. Then theres MLG, Blizzcon, Dreamhack, IEM, Assembly etc for global fame and smaller price pool.
The money is there if you're talented.
80k$ a month is no longer the amount you recieve from winning a GSL, it was only a few first GSLs, now it is about 500k won, which is about 44774$ (if it hasnt benn changed recently) thats considerably lower than 80k$, and I would imagine that 200k$ for Jaedong is/was only his base salary which can go up (and quite much so especially if he gets into a good team and gets a shot to win SPL or individual championships)
On the other hand it may be possible for him to get a personal sponsorship as Boxer did, that could be considerably larger than salaries teams (in SC2) pay out.

SC2 and brood war are DIFFERENT games. Even if SC2 team was able to pay JD salary (EG could) it would be retarded to pay so much for unproven player.

500K or 500M? 500K won is like 500 bux....

bw pros get paid so much because they're of value to korean marketeers. sc2 ain't that big in korea; sc2 is still mostly a white thing. it ain't even on tv in korea, people have to pay to get it in watchable value, online. nobody who isn't into the scene even knows who mvp or nestea are.
if tha dong switched he could get a pretty good deal but he wouldn't get a huk deal.

Would you stop with SC2? It`s a crappy game, and I`m sure someone like Jaedong won`t sell his but for money.

The topic is about his whereabouts and what he is doing, considering there is a interview of him a year ago saying he will switch at some point:
- I will definitely change to StarCraft II as I feel that StarCraft 2 is having a higher status then StarCraft: Broodwar.
Then it is pretty relevant to this topic, as the possibility is there. Hopefully he is just taking a minor back and will be back in BW

He already stated in an old interview that he _WILL_ switch, no time date but he will eventually.

sc2 is not different enough that jaedong's skills won't translate.

It's something he said I think when SC2 was still in beta lol. I think he was expecting SC2 to shoot off way more than it actually has, so this is not really relevant at all except to say that at some point he was thinking about it a long time ago. Do you still think you're gonna do everything you were thinking about doing a year ago? Especially if the interview about him wanting to lead ACE is more recent, I give that more credit to say it was a fleeting idea.
When he wrote that I bet he thought 'if the whole world is going to and watching one competition, surely the prize is going to be huge and prestigious!' but as it turns out there is just a million tiny tourneys, a lot of not very stable teams, and just nothing that everyone is watching. If SC2 lives on and consolidates and gets bigger I can see JD switching, but if SC2 stays the same or pitters out obviously he's not coming to save it. It'd be interesting to hear what he thinks of the gameplay today and if he likes it at all, but we don't have that luxury. We just have his thoughts before anyone knew how the game would play. So yeah... using this interview is a pretty weak argument. Get something more recent if you want to bring it up, cause I hear when jaedong was 5 years old he wanted to be a fireman and that probably isn't going to happen either.

very good post. this pretty much reflects hat I thought. he might eventually switch, but I wouldn't hold my breath. it's not going to happen:
- as long as BW is bigger in korea - there is more money/fans/prestige in BW - as long as he doesn't get an incredibly awesome deal
don't get me wrong. I would be soooo damn happy to see JD/Flash/Bisu/whatever switch to SC2, but unfortunately it won't happen any time soon.

So, when SC2 grows up, he'll switch. It hasn't reached BW prestige and so he won't switch (yet).
Despite me saying all that, he could have of course changed his mind but we can't speculate on what we don't know.

Conversely, they might just grab a rookie and develop him, like they did with Grape. STX has Hero, Modesty, and Calm... a bit underwhelming, but they've all appeared a decent number of times in proleague games, so I'm not sure STX would grab Jaedong. Hence, I'm inclined to believe that Jaedong would be on the new team-- what better PR than Jaedong? He's practically the poster boy for Lecaf/Hwaseung.
Whoa there; nobody settles for Killer. Mini-Dong is probably about as good as the Dong right now.
I initially typed Roro and Shine, then I remembered killer, and added him in there. lol. But still, would you pay Killer as much as you pay for JD? He's still the mini-Dong, and hasn't grown out of Jaedong's shadow yet.

Lol, yeah. Protoss teams do pretty well in Proleague. I guess there's a reason it's called Proleague. *rimshot*

I generally agree with what Chef said, however he most certainly said is and not when. It initially posted as if, then was changed to when:
How do you see the future of StarCraft: BroodWar and will you change to StarCraft 2? - I will definitely change to StarCraft II as I feel that StarCraft 2 is having a higher status then StarCraft: Broodwar. We will see more international tournaments in SC2 compared to StarCraft: Broodwar and this will make the change natural for me. I want to build my reputation abroad and reach out to the international audience but when I decide to change game I can not say, it can be today, it can be tomorrow it can be in a couple of years. .
Edit: Sorry for any misinterpretation. The correct translation is the one above.
Hellspawn from rakaka.se commented on the translation problem: "The translation is a little bit updated. We are sorry for some confusion and misleading information. We're covering all the games at WCG and therefore on a final day like this it get's a little bit hectic. It was suppose to say "as I feel" and not "when I feel". We are also sorry about the mistranslation abotu the biggest news item in the interview that Jaedong will be switch to Starcraft 2 eventually. Hope you liked it anyway, cheers"

Q: Our time is up, but a lot of people are wondering about the player you never want to lose to, if you will use queens in the future, and if you're thinking about joining ACE. A: Hmm... I don't want to lose to any player. Queen can become a good unit, or the game that ruins your play. If it works well during practice, I think I might use it in the future. My final dream as a progamer would be to make ACE win proleague. Maybe not win, but at least make it to the finals. Look forward to it haha.
