Why the gloomy comments?? This post is a much-needed ray of sunshine, and I'm gonna bask. Argue and cast shadows if you like, but don't come over here to me. BW hwaiting!!!

Let's put it this way.
1. There's a lot of fans who care about BW(high ratings)
2. There's a lot of money in BW(high player salary)
3. There's a lot of players in BW(best RTS players in the entire world)
4. THere's a lot of infrastructure in BW(2 cable channels
So why is it that half the league is saying "Screw this. Forget it"?
KT can give Stats a 100% raise. Yet Hwaseung thinks a team with Jaedong on it is not worth sponsoring. Do you not see the problem here?

over all numbers are slowly falling with no growth potential in other areas.
ever major corporations knows their is a hard ceiling on ratings.... the peak is over and "investment spending" will always be limited.

Intel/AMD/ZOTAC all make logical sponsors for a computer game just as Ford/GM/Chrysler/Honda are great sponsors for an auto race.

the problem with Brood War is that I can pick a computer up for free at the local "Salvation Army Donation Store" and it will play Brood War.

Therefore, an entire segment of international manufacturers is out as a sponsor.

Could the Indianapolis Racing League by a thriving//growing entity if Auto Parts Manufacturer's and Auto Maker's themselves would not be a sponsor of any events?

I fail to see why you are disagreeing with me.

My point is that there is a ton of money to be made off of BW. But that the current setup is flawed. You have basically explained why that is the case.

So why is there a need for 1 sponsor, 1 team? Why can't it be "National Starcraft Association" where every game is sponsored by Shinhan, Olleh, SK Telecom, etc.? Or something similar? Why do you force companies like Hwaseung and Wemade to make huge investment of a single team rather than lesser sponsorships?

My only point is that there's enough stuff to make things work. There's just not enough ingenuity.

I think that's more of a problem with those specific corporations than anything else. However, my point was to not worry about problems that have no short-term solution, and just take what we can get. For example, what you say might sound good on paper, but in actuality, there might be logistical, financial, and other obstacles that prevent such a situation from materializing.

I never was into BW. This saddens me and I certainly regret it. Not only do I respect the game itself, and I don't want it to die, but if BW lasts 5 more years, maybe that means SC2 will also last longer. Maybe SC2 wont die until 5 years after SC3 comes out. Maybe SC3 could last ~15+ years as well. #futureofesports

people still watch broodwar?? that is absolutely ridiculous. i was one of the first pro players here in America, in clan deathrow. broodwar is a great memory and im grateful for everything it taught and gave me. but i think its really psychotic people are still trying to support a game that is clearly obsolete in every way. not rational behavior.

if i was one of the last few guys in BW, i'd still take your money too. but who, on earth, would ever watch or support those matches??? lunacy

time to get some therapy. its not 2002 anymore. we have sc2 and other bigger better things, good god people.. LIVE

I can't stand watching Brood War because the graphics are so terrible. Feel free to call me whatever since that is my reason for not watching, but the fact of the matter is that relatively the same game exists with a 3D graphics engine. TL is donating more attention to SC2, why won't everyone else.

So basically you're saying many people in Korea are lunatics and psychotic? That's not very polite.

By a stretch he is saying that, but what the more general message is that devoting time and money to something that is outdated and (potentially) failing is lunacy.

people will watch what they enjoy.
theres no rational reason people should watch pitchers take 10 mins to throw out a pitch but its been going on for 100+ years.
who are you to tell people what they should be watching/supporting.

Thank you for your extremely well thought out and elegantly stated response. You truly are defending what you believe in there.
