If I had to take a guess, it would probably be that the global economy is going into the toilet, and its starting to affect every company. As a result, many companies want to trim the fat in such harsh times, and BW teams seem to be a part of that fat (which doesn't account for MBC Game's decision to switch to a music channel). I don't really have an extensive knowledge base regarding the economic situation of modern BW, but seeing how American and European companies are falling apart, I can't help but think that its happening in South Korea too. Keep in mind that PL finals are once a year... It's hard to pay bills just from one paycheck.

only 7 teams and the OGN channel left. The best that could happen would be 3 new sponsors for the teams and a new channel. Oh my god, I would be so happy.

For selling other eSports to sponsors, people always point at SCBW as a model of success and proof that it can wrok. If that model fails, it'll be a huge blow to people trying to pitch eSports to sponsors. Hopefully all of eSports doesn't fail along with SCBW. Stop talking about what if's. It isn't dying. Look at other games man, very few have lasted this long. As long as developers continue to produce games there will be an audience. It's up to them to create one's as timeless at Starcraft, which isn't the easiest thing to do. KeSPA is working very hard to keep this phenomena going. I know we don't always see eye-to-eye with them or their practices, but give them credit where it's do. The teams might shrink, but they are dedicated to bringing us the finest tournaments available. Cheers!

It would seem slightly redundant for OGN to sponsor another team since the OGN Sparkyz became the Hite Sparkyz, then merged into Hite Entus, which was recently renamed back into CJ Entus. However, any sponsor is better than no sponsor.

It's no wonder we only see a few teams regularly getting to finals. First place in regular league should still have benefits (good seeding or 1 round buy) but you have to fight into the finals. This would give other teams a chance to make far instead of the same few teams all the time. I'm sure that this is at least moderately important to sponsors. Think about it like this, if your finances are tight and you have a poorly performing proteam you're more likely to axe them than if they've recently been deep into the playoffs. It wouldn't totally shield proteams but it would certainly help. it really sucked last year when the difference between 1st and 3rd place was only like a 3-4 win difference.

This kind of shatters everything I had known about the BW scene. OZ? Gone? How... I can't... I can't even fathom this. ![]()
