The strongest memory for me is when Jaedong killed fantasy's vulture on Neo Medusa in the game that completed his comeback from down 0-2, but there are too many memories to list

Crunchums that entire series is still my Favorite OSL finals: the most titanic clash between perfect brilliant strategic preparation, and raw might.

OSL forever, all you need is the same type of video for the MSL and MBCGame's safe ^^

My most vivid memory of OSL was the Korean Air OSL 1.

Having followed Effort ever since his first televised game against Tossgirl in GSL, it felt very special to see him eventually win an OSL against all odds. His win really was a shining beacon of light for all CJ fans during the darkest hours of the match fixing scandal.

Thank you for uploading this rift!

I remember this video and unfortunatly it was taken down when the Jon747 account was suspended by youtube. This video came at a point many were worried that it might have been the last OSL due to SC2s emergence and the conflict between Blizzard and KeSPA, hence very emotional for every BW fan. Fortunatly it was not the end and hopefully there will be more OSLs to come

Btw my favorite memories are probably from the OSL July won against Goodfriend. That final was so epic. Others that come to mind are Anytimes So1 win, NaDas comeback in IOPS and the finals when NaDa and July secured their golden mouses. Those three players as well as Reach and Flash are my top 5 favorite players of all time but Reachs win came at a point he was expected to win and I guess the same can be said about Flashs OSLs as well. Still good memories though
Live2Win is awesome. Happy new year scarabi!

Maybe its just because you can't see the full tournament brackets, but I really can't see how winning 3 OSLs out of the MANY that have taken place over the course of the last decade can be construed as dominance. If anything, the parity is simply astounding to me.

Look at the amount of OSL's. There aint a lot, theres like two a year, this isnt the GSL where you spit one out nonchalantly every month.

The OSL is designed to be as random as possible.

The OSL creates drama, the MSL creates champions.

Eh, not really. OSL just doesn't seed the previous winner with the easiest possible matchups. MSL creates artificially easy paths to multiple championships!

Keep in mind that the starleagues are spaced out quite a bit. (3 per year, I think? Maybe 4 some years) So the players that appear in multiple finals in a row are doing that over a span of many more months than players that appear in multiple GSL finals. The MSL's history, especially its early history, is a better example of how dominant players like (T)NaDa and (T)iloveoov were. (T)NaDa's MSL consecutive finals streak spans well over a year (plus two lost finals to (T)iloveoov and (Z)GoRush. (T)NaDa was in 6/8 MSL finals from April of 2002 to February of 2005

Reebok KPGA 2nd Tour (4/18/02 - 6/22/02) - (T)NaDa > (Z)YellOw
Pepsi Twist KPGA 3rd Tour (7/4/02 - 10/5/02) - (T)NaDa > (P)Reach
Baskin Robbins KPGA 4th Tour (10/25/02 - 1/18/03) - (T)NaDa > (Z)ChoJJa
Stout MSL (4/17/03 - 7/19/03) - (P)Nal_rA > (T)NaDa

(T)Oov's nearly a year

TriGem MSL (9/4/03 - 11/6/03) - (T)iloveoov > (Z)YellOw
HanaFOS CENGAME MSL (1/8/04 - 4/18/04) - (T)iloveoov > (T)NaDa
SPRIS MSL (5/20/04 - 8/29/04) - (T)iloveoov > (P)Kingdom

and (Z)sAviOr's nearly 2 years

UZOO MSL (4/21/05 - 8/6/05) - (Z)sAviOr > (P)Reach
LG CYON MSL (10/6/05 - 1/14/06) - (Z)ChoJJa > (Z)sAviOr
Pringles 1 MSL (4/6/06 - 7/16/06) - (Z)sAviOr > (P)Nal_rA
Pringles 2 MSL (8/17/06 - 11/11/06) - (Z)sAviOr > (Z)Silver
GomTV MSL (11/30/06 -3/3/07) - (P)Bisu > (Z)sAviOr

There have been 32 OSLs. In those 32, there have been 21 different winners and 34 unique participantts in the finals. So the most successful players have won slightly less than 10% of the OSLs over the last decade, and have been in 20% of the finals. Compare that to another 1 on 1 tournament style sport like tennis for example. There have been 40 Grand Slam finals over the past decade. Roger Federer has been in 23 of them. Rafa Nadal has been in 13. Combined, they take up 36 of the 80 possible spots for top 2 finishes in the "Majors". Over the course of the last decade, only 14 men have combined to win all 40 major championships.

Edit: I see from responses that people are comparing SC to SC2 in the sense of dominance, while that is fair, it is important to note that GSL hasn't even existed for a year yet. It may be too soon to say that dominance of that kind isn't possible in SC2. I'd still like to point out though, that in terms of other sports (yes, eSports are sports), SC:BW was blessed with something that many other sports lack... parity.

another example of how dominant Oov was, this makes me smile every time I look at it

To be fair, the "prime" time for a player in BW is vastly different from the prime of a tennis player. At 23 years old, a time considered the beginning of many other sport players' prime, it's considered an old age for a BW player. Oov was the oldest player to win an individual league, and he was 22 when he won it. Federer is also one of the most dominant, if not the most dominant tennis figure. I think Flash would be an apt comparison. If not for his injury, he would probably continue his dominant streak and appear (and win) in most of the league finals.

Nosforit,

The format and structure of the OSL has changed several times during its existence. Not only that, but there are so many qualifiers to go through in order to actually make it in. The video doesn't do justice to it. You'll see a lot of the same names in the top 16 though.

There's a lot more to it than meets the eye.
