MBCGame to shut down? - Page 39

Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

There are still a lot of glitches, uncertainties and problems of scale, it's not going to replace TV any time soon. It already is starting to replace TV in some parts of the world. Look at the SC2 international scene(which is larger than any other e-sport right now), which is thriving without being on TV(except for Anibox in Korea). It definitely is possible for bw to go back to an internet thing, but I think it'd be harder as it's not as popular internationally as some other e-sports that use the internet.

South Korea had ludicrous good internet. The GSL, way smaller than any hypothetical BW online streamed tournament, has never had stream problems (though the GOM player likes to spaz out sometimes, that's the GOM player).

How much have SC2 streams peaked at so far? 100k? That's really fucking small compared to TV viewerships. Could a stream handle 1 million concurrent viewers without acting up? Does anyone even know? Those are the uncertainties I'm talking about.

Both the World Cup last year and the Royal Wedding this year had 1.6million unique concurrent viewers. The same system that was used for the Royal Wedding is being used by MLG. So yes, it can definitely support over a million concurrent viewers.

This kind of attitude is the reason there's so much sc2 vs bw hate. We're not even really discussing SC2, just the content delivery platform and how/if it could work for BW. Stop with the hate.
