Although I'm the one that posted the second article, now that I read it over again, it seems nothing more than something temporary to quell the press. Looking pretty grim.

Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

It's no secret that kESPA wasn't the biggest money printer in Korea, and with nearly 50% of the coverage gone they may decide that the investment isn't worth it. Seriously, put yourself in the shoes of the investors, would you really agree with throwing millions (salaries + big house + a lot of other side expenses) on a team that get's broadcasted exclusively on one TV channel? If you were the CEO how would you justify this? The prime-time has been cut in half, this means only half the teams will get to see the light of the day. Sure, KT and SKT are fine, they almost always have someone up there and as long as OZ have Jeadong they don't have to worry about anything, but the others? Good luck putting someone out there to show your sponsors logo. I know I wouldn't, probably billboards would be a better deal. I wish I am wrong ![]()

So sad ![]() Kinda thinking that myself... the PL final in Shanghai thing just seems too little too late, actually somewhat validated with this news. OGN/MBC should have looked to branch out into the foreign realm yeeeeeeeears ago. As much as it pains me to say this, GOM was the most visionary of the bunch. ![]()

I wish I am wrong ![]() The sponsors were never in the business for a financial profit, it was more about improving their company image, mostly to the younger generations that watched Starcraft. Indeed, companies like STX were largely unknown in Korea to most of my/our generation before BW, but now I would figure they have gained a bit more name value since sponsoring SouL. I don't think this whole thing is a financial thing, but it's more of MBC wanting to restructure its company and MBCGame being one of the things that is cut.

I wish I am wrong ![]() I remember watching some kind of Korean talk show on youtube, after the match fixing. They were, amongst other things, talking about how companys don't really make money off the investments in Esports, they just do it for the image and marketing. Someone linked it here on TL i don't know what its called.
