Q: You were the first survivor from the Group of Death A A: I've been thinking about the group a lot since the group was formed. It's been quite a while since I've been able to show my fans amazing games as recently I continued to lose to Flash and Bisu. I thought that this would be a great opportunity [to show amazing games], so I prepared really hard.
Q You've looked weak against Flash for a while now. A: Whenever I played with Flash, I always went into the game thinking that I will be able to win but my results weren't very good. I've also been quite frustrated within the game. But I was certain that if I overcome some things just a little everything can change completely. Strangely, I've made a lot of weird mistakes whenever I play with Flash and I worked hard to prepare that aspect. I was able to play well just as I've imagined today.
Q: The map you were supposed to play Sea on was La Mancha, a bad map for Zergs. It must have been hard to prepare. A: La Mancha is a really good map for Terran. I struggled quite a bit even in practice. It felt like crossing mountains after another mountain. Even if I am able to get past La Mancha, I would be playing Flash or Bisu after all [laugh]. But I believed in myself. Even during difficult times, when I sat down to play the game, there were times where it felt like god has descended down and played [for me]. Because of that I trusted my instincts and I was able to show satisfactory games today.
Q: What were you thinking after the [MSL] groups were formed? A: I was really hungry during the group selection ceremonies so that was difficult. So when I went back to the dorms and looked at the groups again and again as the date drew closer I wondered if this group was really in the round of 32 [laugh]. It felt quite new and I really anticipated it. I felt a lot of complicated emotions.
Q: Your opponent in the round of 16 is Reality, a new player. A: While he is a new player, his play is very unique and spirited, so I don't want to let my guard down. I will prepare thinking that I am facing Flash. I want to show a perfect game, a game without the slightest flaw.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add A While many of my fans worried about me a lot, I think they also had a lot of expectations. Even during the signing event during the All Star games, fans told me to advance out of the group of death. I was able to advance because of this. I'm really thankful. Also, I want to thank HiyA who helped me practice the most. Today I'm really just thankful to everyone. I think my feelings is so up right now that it can just fly away [laugh].

CoffeeJelly's translation of Flash interview. It's a bit different from Korean (the Korean is very very manner), but it's good :O

Jaedong. You are... absolutely incredible. Though I'm a Flash fan, I have to admit that nothing made me more glad to know you safely advanced from this group!!! Congrats!!!
Very interesting interview, it doesn't really feel like he ever lost his confidence and if he did, it's fully back now. I love how he says the fans support was what made him play so well, such a great tyrant <3
Milkis, thanks for translating. I'm really appreciate it :D
JD, u can fly now :D I'm sad see flash lose to him but then see he really happy ( wonder when I see he happy like this) its great. You deserve it JD. Congrats for make Ro16.
By the way, Flash win and qualify too. hope both of them will meet in final :D
OH MY GOD T_T some really great games (from both groups D and H) today. I am happy JD advanced but sad that *Spoiler? this is interview of winners anyway* bisu was eliminated. He played well but you could tell he was very nervous to play Flash.

Frankly, I feel more sad for Sea, he is a good player and would be able to advance in any group.......except this group.
Even during difficult times, when I sat down to play the game, there were times where it felt like god has descended down and played [for me].
Very epic quote. Literally. It reminds me of The Iliad where gods would take over mortals to fight in the battlefield.
I'm so happy that Jaedong won. I was so tense during that entire match versus Flash. I'm glad he was able to 2-0 that group. It should be a huge boost to his confidence.

I have a sneaking suspicion we won't be seeing a Flash interview for a while =( everyone seemed to only be crazy about the JD interview lol, but then again I kinda agree, Flash is typical manner and kinda redundant because he wins too much.

omg JD is scarry.
I love how JD says that he felt that god was playing for him at times, but in the end the games he delivered were just 'satisfactory.' JD hwaiting
JD opened normal 3 hatch mutas, Flash with rax expand, all very normal, but then JD made a ton of lurkers and caught Flash slightly out of position just as Flash was about to move out with his first tanks and vessel. JD kept the contain long enough to bring defilers over and that was that, even though Flash for some reason stayed in the game for ages despite being contained to his main base while JD had 4, going on 5.

God space-time hacks hands, only 'satisfactory' games.
jaedong's play today was insane esp vs sea his defiler tech was so fast and it's really interesting to see that he didn't change his normal style at all vs sk terran even on an unbalanced map

I really wouldn't stick my chin out too far after one game.
Yeah. Flash is still the best player in the world. While Jaedong is starting to nag at that title a bit he is not more than close, losing 3 out of 4 starleagues to Flash last year.

I don't know what I would do if I was Reality. I would probably run away. And I would start crying like a little girl, too.

He proved his superiority over Bisu by beating Flash and Sea?
I'm gonna say...
Since Flash beat Bisu, and Jaedong beat Flash... Jaedong beat Bisu? lol
One might say it´s meant as in "Jaedong made it through the group of death (with quite impressive play, I might add), Bisu did not. Therefore he is superior to Bisu"

he just aint good in individual leagues.
In spite of that, he maintains near 60% winrates in all 3 matchups, and has been a consistently good player since he started in 2005. Now that fantasy has finally won one, i think Sea is pretty undisguisedly the best active player to not have won an OSL or MSL.
In proleague, he can beat anyone, in starleagues pretty much anyone can beat him.

Agree,
I'd say Zero is the best active player to have not won a starleague. Sea is just completely outclassed by the best players, while Zero is actually good enough to beat anyone when he's at his best.
there are a lot of players who are really good in proleague and overall winrate but underperform in individual leagues. theres just a psychological or mental thing that separates players like flash and players like sea. I really do wish people like sea or leta do well in individual leagues, they are really solid players

Agreed. With Zero, you basically have the gamesense and strategy that can exceed Jaedong's, allowing to take down anyone. The mechanics, multitasking unfortunately arent quite as good which might be why.

However
I never got the impression that Zero's mechanics are what let him down. He comes up with some really good strategies and builds and he's got the mechanics to execute them properly, but I think his overall game sense isn't as good as Jaedong's and as a zerg player, where even a small oversight can cost you the game, that's probably why he tends to be a bit inconsistent.

prolly the killer instinct is missing. the ability to not give a F about anybody else but yourself winning is required to excel in head to head matches.
this is the reason why i say Tiger Woods struggles now. When he was out and about fuckin every 8 and up he saw he was straight murdering people. Now that hes been neutered he can barely make cuts.
also a reason why i say females have a hard time still competing against males in non-physical competitive activities.

Stats is the best example of this, the guy went insane berserker mode in the WL recently(oke he didn't do that well at the end, but you get the point). Then he gets taken out quite easily.

Sea is a solid player, but getting Ro8 consistently is pretty solid. And that's about where i would put sea at most points in time: low end of the top 8, sometimes top 12. Today didn't have much to do with condition, a focused sea will still lose to Flash/jaedong, even if they aren’t at peak performance.
So, jaedong has once again pulled himself within one win of matching flash head to head. Definitely the best rivalry; so close performance wise, 5 titles apiece, consistently high level games. Gotta love it.

I feel sea is definitely among the best, but he just isn't on that final "plateau" with Jaedong, Flash, Bisu, Stork, and Fantasy. Almost there, but not really. On top of that Sea is one of the worst players at controlling his nerves, which explains why he always does so well in proleague while sucking big time in solo league important matches where he's facing elimination.

神马 takes a bit of explanation, its pronunciation is shén mǎ, this is the shortened form of 神马都是浮云(shén mǎ dōu shì fú yún), which is itself slang for 什么都是浮云 (shén me dōu shì fú yún), the first two words are pronounced similarly and in this case only the first 2 words were used. The phrase (and all shortened forms) literally means "nothing is worthy", is used to show exasperation and said as a emotional sigh.
of course it could also be a typo, the writer may have wanted to write 什么 but wrote a homophone instead, in either case the writer was saying, "nothing special was needed for Jaedong" probably referencing the cheese in game 2 against bisu, which makes sense since he mentions the map right after.

Flash said he didn't need this against JD) Against Jaedong, I have every confidence to win, because it was a vZ on Circuit Breaker. Jaedong was playing very good today, and I wasn't feeling particularly confident going into lategame. Even though I had one armor and one attack upgrade, I lost all my forces easily and it discouraged me greatly. After the match, I didn't even have the will to think about the next one. I started panicing.

神马 ... uh... not sure
雷车 is vulture

Even though this is a bit irrelevant now, I think that if I had used vultures, I would have no chance of losing; but I was forced to not have radar (???????) ok I'm confused too about this last part lol
神马=什麽, not a typo, just lazy translator
Even though this is a bit irrelevant now, I think I can win the battle against JD's ground force by using Vultures, it's a shame that I don't have enough scans.
awesome translation, I was on the edge of my seat during those games. After watching SC2, BW is so amazingly better to watch, it's refreshing. Makes me wonder why I bother watching SC2 pro games...
Jaedong played nearly perfectly in both games, brilliant to watch.

It's because so many things in SC2 are too perfect if you came from a BW background.
wow jaedong ate them alive it was like watching savior in 2007 i bow in front of this perfect play sad for bisu but the 2 games against flash were also almost perfectly sick. absolute top class, no other t on this planet would have had a chance really happy for flash best t ever
I had forgotten how reat JD interviews were. He is always exuding confidence. Love it.
Edit: Just read the Flash interview. Not as interesting as JDs (as usual) but I love the shout-out to Reach. Reach is probably hooking flash up with chicks.
Woot, thanks for the Flash interview! Hopefully will get added to OP later!
Overall two great interviews and two great players advanced, can't wish for more! Oh and great shout-out to Reach, wonder what the Mantoss has been up to?

Some of my fans might not know this, Reach was a pillar of support to me. I am very thankful to have him and hope he will help, not only myself, but the rest team so we (KT) can be even better.
Hehe Flash has picked up some tricks from White-Ra with his special tactics. 2 of my 3 fav players advanced, not too shabby, too bad Bisu couldnt move out too.
I won't say anything here but strangely, the power level of my teammates has increased overwhelmingly. It's giving me a headache (Laugh) especially Hoejja and Barrack; you can expect those two to perform exceptionally if they can play as well as they did in practice.
Flash slipping in practice?! Or are his teammates really getting better? Somehow I doubt the latter...
Um... in the Flash interview, I'm pretty sure he said he had the ultmost confidence in his endgame, not he wasn't feeling confident going into endgame.
And the word about the part with 1-1 upgrades is more like an army with 1-1 isn't so easily thrown away like he did, so he was very disappointed.
I haven't watched a brood war game since early february. Been watching a lot of sc2 instead (nasl, gsl, tsl). This series reminded me of how much more awesome bw is

In all star game, Flash vs Bisu, Flash used Carriers and said, "형 캐리어는 이렇게 쓰는거에요." which means, "Bisu, You should use Carriers like the way I'm doing, Watch and Learn." I hate Flash.

flash won the game with carriers, bisu lost his game with carriers...its really hard to fault him when he's right

I agree, the translation is terrible.
Sorry about that I misread it. I updated the translation.

Well, one of Flash's strengths is his ability to handle pressure, there have been a lot of good players who were really good in practice (Magma stands out as a player all korean players said was one of the best in the world in practice) but who couldn't handle the pressure of a broadcasted game.
Oh and Hoejja has been Flash's practice partner for TvZ for ages, he drilled Flash for all the FvJ finals. He's always been good in practice and terrible live (barring a few ZvPs).

You've made some mistakes, but it's definitely not terrible.
Flash mentioned that he was having some personal problems which made it difficult to play. Does anybody know what could be wrong? I hope everything is ok for him now...
Well done to JD and Flash! I love those guys! Even though I'm a Flash fan at heart, I really enjoyed seeing Jaedong dominate today, its great for the rivalry between the two of them... I think this MSL has a bright future! Looking forward to the Ro16!

Errr, maybe I shouldn't use the word "terrible". I guess I was just bothered by the confusion since I read the Chinese translation before seeing yours. I do appreciate the work you've done and simply wanted to point out the mistake you made. Only the mistake was bad.
