SK TELECOM T1, BRINGING HOME THEIR FIRST WL TROPHY, THE TROPHY THAT WAS MISSING FROM THEIR HUGE TROPHY CABINET.
SK Telecom T1: “We’re even happier that we defeated our rival KT”
SK Telecom has successfully won their first Winners’ League championship.
On the 9th, the Shinhan Winners’ League 10-11 season finals were held at Seoul Songdong-gu Hanyang University’s open-air theater, and through SK Telecom’s MVP s2 along with “The Revolutionist” Bisu’s support for their team, SK Telecom successfully defeated KT 4:1 and held the championship cup in their hands.
After the day’s match ended, an interview was held for the winners s2 and Bisu, who told us their thoughts on winning the championship, along with team ace “Terrorist” Fantasy and captain Hyuk (of SK Telecom).
Next is SK Telecom’s answers to their questions.
- Your thoughts on winning your first Winners’ League title? ▲ s2: Because we lost to KT so much, we weren’t sure if we were going to win the championship, but being unsure of whether we could win or not made us practice and work even harder, so the results of our efforts turned out to be good in the end. I’m happy, and because we are the winning team, I want to keep on enjoying these good feelings from today. ▲ Bisu: It’s been a long time since the last time I stood at the stage of the finals, and when we won, I thought, “So this is what it feels like to win a championship,” and felt really good. Whether when it’s during the semi-playoffs or playoffs, players aren’t able to rest and go through a lot of hardships, but since we were able to completely erase the fears of, “What do we do if we go all the way to the finals and lose”, I’m happy. Our team had always been weak in Winners’ League, but since we were able to take the throne this time, I’m really happy. ▲ Hyuk: It’s really great that our team won the championship. I personally didn’t participate today myself, but during practice, I thought that our team could definitely take down KT, and since the results came out the way I thought they would, I’m really happy about it. I’m also happy especially since s2 did so well. Because we won the Winners’ League championship, we will ride our momentum, and even in the regular season we will hold our position as 1st place and be able to win the Proleague championship at Gwangahnri. [T/N: The place where the Proleague finals are held] ▲ Fantasy: I’m even happier that we won against our rival KT. Our teammates practiced really hard, and to have the fruits of our labor come out makes me happy and really proud of them. I wasn’t able to participate today, but I’m really thankful to my teammates, and it would be great if we could keep this momentum up and do well in Round 5.
- (To s2) You were chosen as the Winners’ League finals MVP. ▲ s2: I was panicked when I had to play a rematch in the first set, but overall, I think that I got really lucky today, which made me able to become chosen as the MVP.
- (To s2) After you won the 1st set, what kind of thoughts did you have, and how did you prepare for your next game? ▲ s2: I practiced for the 1st set the most. Even though I didn’t really practice for the other sets, I had confidence in the remaining maps and played confidently since I had prepared builds in the case a Zerg or Protoss came out to face me.
- (To s2) A ‘T1 Zerg’ unexpectedly making 3 kills has become a hot topic. ▲ s2: Truthfully, ‘T1 Zergs’ don’t really have a good image, but it seems that the Zerg line’s atmosphere has been revived recently. Everyone on the Zerg line has been working really hard, and it will be hard to take advantage of today’s win to completely change our image, but I will work even harder to change our image into a good one from now on.
- (To s2) There was a chance for you to all-kill, but it must have been regrettable for you to lose to Flash. ▲ s2: Contrary what I had expected, after I made 3 kills, I want to think that I wasn’t satisfied with myself. I tried to play comfortably in the 4th set and used an aggressive offensive build, but Flash scouted out and dealt with my strategy well, so I failed to make an all-kill.
- (To Bisu) During the pre-finals media day conference, you mentioned that you had a “custom build for Flash”; was the build you showed today that one? ▲ Bisu: I usually don’t really talk about builds in interviews. But since it was a build I had already used before, I was able to talk about it in advance, and the strategy I used today was the one I talked about and was the one put together to defeat Flash. When I pushed out with my Zealots, for my strategy to work, Flash had go for a rax expand, but if he had gone for a factory expand instead, then I could have been at a disadvantage, but since the game went the way I wanted it to go, I was able to win. - (To Bisu) After you seized the chance to victory, your happiness was shown on your face and appeared on screen. ▲ Bisu: I had a happy expression on my face, but did it come out by accident (laughs)? I lost to Flash a lot, so I had a lot of hardships. But since I was winning against a player like that, I was too happy, that’s why that kind of expression came out on my face. [T/N: Whoever makes that Bisu bouncing up and down in his seat in glee gif will be regarded as a hero. Also, I send my greetings to Fomos when they copy paste this translation on to their site.] - (To Bisu) You seem to have restored your confidence in beating Flash, but are you confident that you will survive in the MSL? ▲ Bisu: I still don’t think that I have that much confidence in winning against him yet. After seeing that my hands were shaking during my game, I still think that Flash is a very strong player, and I personally feel that I’m lacking in many areas. But since I did win today, it seems that my thoughts have changed a bit, and since there is a lot of time to practice for the MSL and for the new map I’ll be playing on, if I just practice and prepare well, then I think I’ll be okay. I don’t know what strategy I’ll prepare, but I will do my best and practice hard.
Manager Park Young Oon: "We won according to scenario"
Q: Why did you lead with s2? A: How the games went tonight were actually one of the scenarios we considered. To be honest we concentrated more on Stats than Action. It's good management to send out newer players at the front so they got to play, and because they won, we were able to have the game flow the way we wanted it. s2 got a 3 kill and was able to guide the series without a hitch.
Q: s2's strategy changed after the regame. What kind of order did you give him? A: Before the regame, s2 did a 9 pool, and it looked like Action was very prepared. So we decided that it'd be difficult for Action to make major changes to his build, and so we decided that the opponent would not be able to use 12 hatch, so I told s2 to use the build he did. That's why we were able to get the win.
Q: You have gained the triple crown. What is the next goal? A: We definitely do not want to let KT take the finals at GwangAhnRi. That is our goal. After we got second place, we were really disappointed, and so this time we will pay them back with a victory. As for long term goals, I will tell them after we win at KwangAhnRi.
Q: Workshop starts tomorrow. What kind of preparations are you going to do? A: It is true that our schedule is very tight. The players are tired from practicing quite a bit, but I think that it's better to give them a break with the team as a whole. If we give them a lot of personal time, the players might get a little loose. While we will give them personal vacation time, we will have them rest within the team as much as possible.
The site of the finals - Seoul Hanyang University! There was a packed crowd there, what an atmosphere!
KT's new freaky mascots were introduced as well. Yes, that Flash mascot was even armed with a ruler and all. Devil!Bunkie does not approve.
Stork and Leta were also there for a special 2 vs. 2 with fan event before the finals started!
GoRush: "Hey Leta, doncha wanna see more of this?" *Starts unbuttoning vest* Leta: "GTFO"
Stork's team won in the event - That fan gets an extra $1,000 added to his bank account!
Even Effort was there to watch the finals! Effort: "What are you looking at? Damn paparazzi these days."
GoRush: "Heh heh, SKT gonna own face today." TheMarine: "STFU GoRush, you aren't even commentating the finals game today." *Sips drink*
KT arrives on the scene! Complete with MafiaZerg dirty stare!
Hoejja: "Huh? This is the last snack bag left?"
Yellow: "Well Hoejja, sometimes sacrifices hafta be made, now hand over them snacks of yours." Hoejja: "......" *Watches as everyone takes his snacks*
But then, Hoejja finds a solution to his problem!
Hoejja: "Mmm, food always tastes better when you take it from someone else."
Suddenly, iloveoov aged 20 years! iloveoov: "Why yes, I did learn how to travel through time. You gotta do everything in order to prepare for the finals."
Soo: "Heh, I bet you're not even gonna be sent out today!" Fantasy: "We'll see about that, I bet Bisu's gonna get owned hard by Flash anyway."
Flash: "I'm ready to greet all of my fans today!" Barracks: "Holy crap Flash, don't trip on that wire right there!!" OAO Flash: "Lol wha-"
Flash gives a high-five to... himself??
Bisu: "Uhuhuh, I feel strangely confident today for some reason~"
Former vocalist Park Won Gyu of the Korean rock band Boohwal was there to watch the finals! He automatically gets approval in my book.
Yeeeeeah pyrotechnics!!!
Fantasy and Hyuk: "Oooh, pretty colors~" Bisu: "Can we start already" *Pouts*
Yellow and Reach: *Smirk* "Heh, SKT gonna be taught a lesson today."
Bisu: "If the game doesn't start at this rate, then I'm going to fall asleep..."
Kespa ref: "We are sorry for the computer failure today. But since we are Kespa, we will continue to fail anyway in the future. Thank you for all of your support."
It's G.NA!
And her bitches!
"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay~"
s2 in his booth in the background: "Damn, if only I was out there instead of in here..."
Mantoss, after watching Stats lose.
Reach: "I clearly haven't manned him up enough yet..."
Coach Park: "How is a T1 Zerg winning this, I don't even-"
The sequence of Flash drinking Pocari Sweat, illustrated above.
Flash, after winning against s2: "If only Violet hyung was here..."
Beesuit is unleashed to take down the Final Boss! Bisu: "Uhuhuhuh, I feel strangely smug today~"
Bisu, during his game against Flash. He cannot hide his happiness during the game! Today is a glorious day for Kim Taek Shin!
Bisu: "Uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh, I won, I won, I won!!!!!"
Kim Taek Shin, throwing up his fist like a champ. Oh wait, he IS a champ.
SKT, on Bisu winning against Flash: "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHH SONNNNNNNN-"
Frotoss cannot hide his glee! Look at that look of utter delight on his face!
Bisu: "Uhhh, what do I do after getting out of my booth now?"
Coach Lee and Mantoss taking the 2nd place prize of $10,000. Mantoss still looking manly with flowers.
Coach Park and Captain Hyuk holding up the $20,000 prize! Profit!
s2 gets awarded as MVP! s2: "Wow, I feel useful for once!"
Win the WL championship, get drenched by Pocari Sweat.
Coach Park: "Finally, the WL championship trophy! The missing trophy in our collection!"
Bisu: "Uhuhuh, I beat Flash for once! Uhuhuhuhuh↗"
s2: "Feeling useful to your team really feels great!"
Yeeeah Bisu yeeeeeah, pimping out the trophy with former rocker Park Won Gyu!
Wassup guys. s2 and Bisu representin' SKT. Another shiny trophy added to SKT's shiny trophy collection.
SK Telecom T1, 2011 Winners' League champions! Yeeeah!!
Bisu: "This trophy? No, you can't have it. It's mine."
Thanks for the interview, a little upset that KT Lost but it's not Flash fault, I wish Action, Stats and Crazy Hydra picked up some wins to help out Flash, but what can you do.
Flash had to make double Barracks, but if he had made double Factories instead, then I could have been at a disadvantage
I assume that means he had to rax-CC and not fac-CC.
Kespa ref: "We are sorry for the computer failure today. But since we are Kespa, we will continue to fail anyway in the future. Thank you for all of your support."
(To s2) You were chosen as the Winners’ League finals MVP. ▲ s2: I was panicked when I had to play a rematch in the first set, but overall, I think that I got really lucky today, which made me able to become chosen as the MVP.
God i hate it when people say they got lucky for winning a game or more. Clearly it wasn't pure luck that s2 won his games this time! 8)
Thanks for the interview, pictures and all. Very well done and much appreciated. SKT WHAITING!
I hope that after this run Ssak and S2 develop much more, all they've done to help the team has shown they can go a long way. If this doesnt boost their confidence i guess nothing will.
the game was very surprising for me to watch because s2 got triple killed o: my liquidbet jumped up so much because even though I was rooting for KT , but I voted for SKT anyway lol.
I thought the S2 vs. Flash game, S2 was just hoping to lose by just throwing in Mutas to walls of turrets and rines. The constant zealot pressure by Bisu really did Flash in. Thanks for the write up. Fun pictures. Next time perhaps Rollllster.
From the time I saw the map pool I knew the entire series hinged on whether SKT could get Flash out on Aztec. Congrats to Bisu and SKT. See you in the PL playoffs.
I honestly thought that KT was going to win, and I certainly didn't expect SKT to roflstomp them.
s2 totally deserved mvp, and props to Bisu for sweeping up Flash rather easily. You honestly can't say that very often, and Bisu's PvT is certainly not his strong point.
Lmfao Sillylaughs is a hero for capturing that moment!! I had a huge banana grin on my face when I saw Bisu bouncing up and down in pure joy in his seat. Highlight of the finals right there. XDDD
▲ (P)Bisu: I usually don’t really talk about builds in interviews. The way you translated this part could be very confusing. It would be more accurate and much less confusing to read if you changed it as "rax expand" and "factory expand" or something like that.

Not "double barracks" but "barracks double", the double referring to a second CC. I'm pretty sure that's how Koreans refer to rax-CC (and ditto for fac-CC), though I don't speak the language so take this with a grain of salt.

Yeah, Bisu actually said "barracks double", but I was confused and thought I should translate it as "double rax" instead, which apparently was wrong. But thanks for pointing out the mistake... again.
3 kills from s2. Yes, s2 was scary in final SWL this time because he proves to me he is good and playing very well. s2 3 kills show to me that SKT zerg is not dying anymore. SKT zerg was always doing surprise. And s2 win MVP in final SWL .You deserved it. Congrats s2.
Bisu was sooo happy this time. Finally he show his happiness to us :D Congrats to SKT for winning the final SWL 10-11 and thanks s2 and Bisu. by the way, thank you for translating. I'm really appreciate it :D and the pictures caption was hilarious :D
Haha wow! I'm so happy for Bisu now. Reading about an amazing cho-gosu such as Bisu having shaking hands after a match and bouncing in his chair really endears me to him. I have to say that in general I'm a bigger fan of Flash than Bisu, so I should be sad, but Bisu played like a true boss in that game and I love him for it. Now for that pesky PVP...
Omg...When I saw the game between Bisu and Flash, I was so anxious, especially when Flash had the contain going, but when Bisu started jumping in his chair, I had a huge banana grin on my face. I'm really happy that Bisu ended his losing streak vs Flash. (In fact it's kinda funny cause Bisu 1st loss in WL was to Flash, and his last win in WL is to Flash =D)
Was so much fun to watch (ignoring the ppp incidents..) grats SKT!
The Bisu Bounce was definitely a highlight of the night, and I also didn't realize until it was pointed out in the LR thread that S2 is the shape of a heart. My mind has been blown! Grats S2 for putting the "T1 Zerg" meme to rest!
Does it feel like KT didn't plan a strategy at all and just played standardly letting SKT counter them perfectly? Seems like a lot of teams do this when vsing SKT.

Thanks for the interview translations; fantastic interviews! Thanks for including heaps of pictures as well, and the gif lol I love it. I was so happy when I saw Bisu all giddy hahaha. Congratulations to SKT T1 for the win! S2 did a fantastic job and I'm glad he got the MVP award. What a night it was last night :D

i am a very huge kt fan but i will congratulations to skt! s2 stepped up very well definitely.
A few things I kind of disagreed with kt's decisions (but yes, just mine, I'm not a pro I know, just my opinion please respect it)
1. When action went for the attack with his muta ling, he should have moved his zerglings fully in instead of attacking at the expansion, and guard the choke to the main. As a zerg player, I do that often and I found it works well. The lings destroy the spores and the mutas block the lings from coming. I learned it from Jaedong vs his game against Zero, that he unfortunately lost.
2. I was hoping that Crazy-Hydra wouldnt play to be honest. I wanted to see someone deeper within the KT blood play. I think I would have put in Barracks or even Flash at number 2. Although he is the "final boss" its more comforting to see him get kills immediately into the bo7.
3. Flash had a nice contain but he had his 1 expansion while Bisu had three. The contain itself was overstretched although it looked very nice.
But yeah, well done SKT. Very well played and I never thought I would see s2 get three kills and Flash lose to Bisu. Lets hope for a rematch at the PL finals!

They had also 2 barracks in here after the Last edit: 2011-04-10 11:54:33 was changed into a factory you see i'm a HUGE Bisu FAN and maybe he clame that for a reason.
Ps So Spica can you tell me what happened and you changed the 2 barracks into a Factory?

Spica's current translation is correct. "Double" almost always refers to expanding.

Hmm, I think you may be misreading something then.
"When I pushed out with my Zealots, for my strategy to work, Flash had go for a rax expand, but if he had gone for a factory expand instead, then I could have been at a disadvantage, but since the game went the way I wanted it to go, I was able to win."
The idea is that factory expand -> faster vultures -> zealots dont do as much damage and Bisu is at a disadvantage. So, for Bisu's strat to work flash had to go Rax Expand, so that's why Bisu says this.
If Bisu sees factory expand he can stop zealot production though and still get goons out in time. He scouted first so he could have made a single zealot and stopped the plan anyway. Even if he scouted late it's only 2 zealots produced that was not needed (and its not like zealots are useless still). He is being modest; I mean yes he could have been at a very slight disadvantage but people taking it to mean it was zealot pump or lose are just wrong.

Not even close. There was no way that push could've worked, Bisu had too much macro. After those vultures dies without claiming a single probe, Flash simply had no way of coming back; Bisu was able to get his 4 base macro running without trouble. He didn't have any zealots when that push moved out, but he had a few dozen when he went to break it. That's how much more macro he had.

To be honest, the "not killing probes" wasn't why Flash didn't win. Flash didn't win because his build order really wasn't designed for a 5/6 factory timing push like it was executed, coupled with the fact that (both of their) build orders were slowed down by the constant zealot attack. Flash's play really felt as though it were designed to get a third base and probably hit with an 8 factory 2-1 push (notice the mega fast +1) Flash just wasn't playing to his build and forced something unnatural - he would have been better off trying to play from behind (and get some clutch emps) than to push in that position [all of us terran players have lost like that a thousand times before :|].
Also, Flash really wasn't in a comfortable position to push - in fact, there really isn't a comfortable way to push on that map - lending to terran troubles on that map.
Epic 3-kill by s2, I was really surprised and impressed. Its good to see new(ish) faces take some wins.

thanks for the translation.. people at the time were saying s2 fluked the first 2 games because it was zvz but he won because he played both beautifully. people who say every zvz is a coin flip obviously do not pay attention to the play and just have resigned to their own biased ideas.
anyway, does anyone know when the next season starts? i'm friggin excited for the next season of fantasy of course ^_^

the second game itself had s2 with a disadvantage, but pulled off a win with really good control.

A big part of it is how much Bisu delayed his gas. If Flash went factory expand his opening would just be more smoother than Bisu with his 1gate expo -> gas.

Ah, when will flash switch to SC2?
hopefully never, itd be a waste of his gifts
You say gifts, as though it's possible to give these to someone. Flash was born with his CPU. It was not given to him.
