BrainClan is back up!
This thread is a work in progress. If you have any suggestions, please reply and/or (preferably and) PM me with the information. I want this to be a complete resource.
I state, by divine proclamation, that users from TeamLiquid shall henceforth use the channel "op teamliquid" for all chatting activities on the Fish and BrainClan server. op teamliquid shall be the channel you shall use, and the channel you shall use is op teamliquid. Other channels thou shalt not use, neither op teamriquid, op tl, op pony, or any other sacrilegious channel name which does not match op teamliquid. [I be trolling. But srsly, you can find us in op teamliquid]
Coming soon: - Fix broken registry hack to stop Fish from changing permissions. - Add some more information about Fish as Brain is still down. - Explicitly separate information about BrainClan and Fish.
Although the .reg file includes all gateways, I will focus discussion on BrainClan, as they do not nuke your server list on connect (Fish is evil... ;P)
With the foreigner scene moving more and more towards SC2, it is becoming difficult to find decent games on iCCup, especially at C+ and up. Korea still has a very strong Brood War community that one can tap into and practice with. Terms like "practicing with Koreans" exist because, in general, they often have more refined builds and play. iCCup is a prime example, play during Korean hours and see how much more difficult the average skill level becomes. They are better mechanically, and at the lower levels you will quickly realize strategies which are only working because you are playing poorer opponents. If you are ready for the challenge, and feel that stronger opponents will increase your skill level more rapidly, or if you're a higher level foreigner struggling to get games on iCCup, the Korean servers may be your best answer.
The Registry File - Adding Servers
I have created a registry file that includes all the major servers below, including: - iCCup - Brain server - Fish server [with a second domain to access] - MapZine Sever [included with Brain, I'm not sure the difference ? nic.brainclan.com] - Fish & Brain "test" servers [Try these when Fish/Brain main servers are down] - All the default Battle.net gateways
I have discovered that the Fish server will AUTOMATICALLY modify your server list to match theirs. You will lose your list of servers every time you connect to that server, and will have to run this registry file again.
Warning... Here be dragons... Editing Registry Permissions
I done goofed. It's not working. Anyone who has a good knowledge of Windows access control, take a look. + Show Spoiler +
There is a work around for this. It involves editing the permissions for accessing the registry key which has your Battle.Net gateways. This edit will allow you to connect to Fish without them changing your servers on you.
Some Notes: - Once this process is done, it must be undone if you wish to change your gateways again from the user account you disable write access to, or you must login/run regedit scripts/regedit as Administrator in order to modify it again. - Replace "Melf" [not my computer... don't ask], or "Jon" depending what video you watched, with your account name. - If your permissions screen looks different or you run into problems, reply here before changing.
Windows XP: Video is here . I have also uploaded a copy to YouTube.
Windows 7: Video is here . I have also uploaded a copy to YouTube.
If you can download the registry file, simply right click on it, and select Merge [default action for double click on most machines], and click YES to the prompt.
Otherwise, copy the text from the pastebin and/or plain-text paste above, paste into a new document in notepad, File -> Save as, select All Files from the save-as-type, and name it "allscservers.reg". Now, follow above directions.
BrainClan and Mini-launcher
Mini-launcher
- Used by all the Korean servers in this thread as their loader - Mini-launcher does come bundled with some spyware baddies if you don't disable them on install. The actual application, however, is clean. Please follow this guide carefully to avoid this.
I have heard mixed reports as to whether or not you can use iCCup launcher (Chaos) for Korean servers safely. The guide below is for installing Mini-launcher, the launcher that Brainclan uses from its website. This launcher is also used by MapZine and Fish. If anyone can get a more English-friendly launcher working, please reply =)
Please ensure you have BrainClan in your list of gateways, by following the instructions in this thread.
Run the file, and make sure that all additional addons/extras are not installed by selecting the red X from the drop-down box. See picture:
This is important, as this comes bundled with spyware and other garbage you do not want or need!
After installing, open the launcher. You will be greeted with a prompt with Yes/No on it. As far as I can tell, this is asking if you want to do an update. You should probably click yes.
Then select "launcher" from the left hand side of the launcher:
Now, set up chaos as you normally would [this launcher is fully compatible with chaos]. Here's mine:
Click the button highlighted in red to launch StarCraft. Now, finally, you must log into brainclan (create an account just like you would on USEast).
Read the rest of the section on BrainClan. We aren't quite out of the woods yet...
Thank you to user fold for allowing me to use these pictures
The Ten-Hour Rule There is a policy in place on BrainClan which requires you be online for 10 hours or so before you are allowed to make 1v1 ranked ladder games. This is to avoid multiple accounts and smurfing. You must remain logged into an account for a total of about 10 hours before you can ladder 1v1. + Show Spoiler [Details and Korean Language Pack] +
BrainClan has a policy in place to avoid people making multiple accounts: you must remain logged in for TEN hours before you are allowed to play 1v1. Idle, go 2v2/3v3, whatever. I recommend you leave it open overnight, then you should be fine! =)
Note: The in-game command /lgame will let you know if you have enough logged hours. Below is a dude that actually knows Korean telling you how to use this . I'd still recommend just idling overnight to be safe

If you have an older OS or a Macintosh, I'm sorry but I don't have experience installing foreign languages on those systems.
Korean Still Doesn't Display? Crooked and I had both originally thought that this was enough, however, it isn't. This is for enabling unicode support for Korean. Unfortunately, Brood War is ancient and does not use unicode to display characters.
In Windows 7 or Vista, I believe you can set it to display non-unicode characters in Korean. This will make some strange behaviour, such as not making the slash keys show up properly.
In Windows XP, it's even worse. You will have to change your location to Korea in regional settings, effectively changing all menus in Windows to be displayed in Korea, in order to display Korean in Battle.net.
I don't know of any other way unfortunately, sorry. If anyone has a more elegant solution, please let me and others know.
Further aside, for you Linux users, I am quite proficient with at least Debian based systems, so if you want assistance installing Korean (if you're running brood war with wine or something), then PM me.
The Fish server has a similar policy. There's is you are required to play 30 games [up from their usual 10 due to server load, Brain is down] before playing a ranked match. Again, the focus of this thread is Brain, registry edits every time you connect because they change your servers is annoying.
As far as I know, any non-ums game should count, including comp-stomps or something silly. Most people use melee
Getting Korean Versions of Maps All maps used by Brain can be accessed here. As far as I know, Fish uses the same maps. Cheers to user fold for this information
Ranks
I've been busy lately. Directly quoting a PM so the information is here. Will edit into thread in own words later. The majority of this information is for Brain, not Fish, though they are similar AFAIK
from sCCrooked Every 100 points is another rank. They keep changing how many you get/lose per game so I can't tell you what will change after this very long maintenance is finished. I'd say you probably could play about 4-5 games though and get another rank (if you won 100% of course). The ranking system is as follows:
Loser (Yes your icon actually changes to the word "LOSER" in caps) > F- > F > D > C- > C > C+ > B- > B > B+ > A- > A > A+ > S- > S > S+
Each rank has its own channel and you'll be constantly moved up in the channels vs more skilled opponents as you improve in rank. As for Fish, I believe the ladder works similarly (I stopped playing fish several months ago and haven't followed it since. Its a huge pain to keep re-activating all the reg files). On Fish I believe its 10 regular games before you can ladder. Not very much to ask people to do. Right now with Brain down though, Fish got all the extra people, so there's literally HALF A MILLION over there. This will probably stay the case until Brain goes back up.
There is also a rumor going around that Brain will never go back up because Blizzard is pressuring them. This is of course, just a rumor so far. Although, its a bit strange there's no information or word from anybody on the Brainclan site about why the server is down, when it will be back up, or even what they're doing to it that's taking so long.
Back to the explanation of the rankings: A lot of people will ask for the comparisons of iCCup to Brain Rankings. The answer is difficult because often there are many styles that are being played. Bad players vs bad players still move up in rank sometimes until they reach a point where the players know how to severely punish bad play. You might find someone at C- who's really playing a bad style but nobody in D could punish them enough. Then they reach C and suddenly every game is a brick wall because their bad playstyle is punished repeatedly and harshly. My best answer would be the following chart:
iCCup Rank ---------------- Brainclan Rank
E ---------- Loser D- ------------ Loser D -------------- Loser D+ ------------- F- C- -------------- F-/Low-F C --------------- F/Low-D C+ ------------- Mid-D B- -------------- Low-(C-) B ---------------- C-/Low-C B+ ---------------C A-/A ------------- C+ A+/Olympic ---- B- and higher
Pretty much anybody reaching B-/B/B+ on Brain belongs to a massive group of people numbering in the thousands that try out for B-team spots on Progaming teams every season. Anybody A-/A/A+/S- is most likely an accomplished B-teamer on an actual progaming squad (or was a B-teamer such as Terr0r[f0u]). S/S+ in Brainclan history has almost always been exclusively actual current progamers. You can think of Brainclan as the Minor Leagues if Proleague is the Big Leagues.
IMPORTANT BrainClan Etiquette, or "How To Not Be A Foreigner" It is absolutely critical that foreigners do not stick out too badly on the Brain server. Foreigner IPs were banned from Brain before for this reason. A lot of behavior used on iCCup is considered too rude for the server. Overall, I feel they are more professional than iCCup, and this must be taken into account.
I urge you to read the following if you intend to play on Brain at all, so that everyone may enjoy the benefits of having unbanned IPs for us foreigners:
- The overall idea is blend in, don't piss Koreans off, keep us unbanned. - Wait a good ten hours after making account (policy, you must in order to play a ranked ladder match 1v1). - Make games with mini-launcher and #LL or #L2 for LAN latency. If you do not know how to use LatencyChanger for Chaos/minilauncher, practice on USEast to make sure you have it working.. ;p - Do not smurf or make multiple accounts (for the purpose of stomping n00bs anyway). Koreans hate this. They say this is what iCCup is for. - Do not chat in the ladder channels. Find someone near your rank, and whisper them the gamename/password. They will say "go" or something similar if they agree. - Have the Korean maps. [See just above this for link] - From my personal experience with having Korean friends, they take swearing, especially f-bombs, a lot more personally then we do here. It means more. Respect that, and only drop BM if you really, really mean it, and be prepared for the consequences.. (including getting us banned again you jackass. ;P) - I am unsure if installing a Korean language pack is actually necessary. If you want to host a public game, it may stand out to use the English alphabet instead of Korean. See under "Details and Korean Language Pack" spoiler above.
For information about ChaosLauncher/mini-launcher's "LatencyChanger", please see this Liquipedia article. The quick and the dirty of it: Run the plugin (see mini-launcher screenshot, tick box for it there), add #L2 to end of game name for LAN latency, as long as both are running plugin, it works, if one isn't, they will crash. #L1, L3-L5 are possible, but most Koreans will probably use #L2, which is the "same" as LAN latency (I believe that #LL is the same as #L2, but most use #L2 on Brain it seems). If you are hosting, this is the most acceptable setting usually.
Fish Downtime The regular maintenance is done everyday to make sure everyone online is active and to update the AH everyday so they do not have to have long maitenances like ICCUP. The maitenances only last an hour or two. If Fish is down, cool it for an hour or two instead of spamming the thread.
A HUGE thank you to sCCrooked for a lot of information about Brain. As mentioned, I have never played on Fish or Brain, just doing this for the community. He deserves a lot of credit for this. Give him some PM luvin
you can play on the test server for brain whenever the main ones goes down, but during maintenance they are both down. on the test server, you also only get half the points as you would on the main server.
This looks so cool. just gonna pop a reminder in here for people to download "minilauncher" which is what people use on fish (and maybe brain too?) servers as their lan latency and antihack.
This is the main page of Brainclan. The MINI launcher includes chaos and a number of other plug-ins like APM Live and Obs Mode along with W-mode much like iCCup's launcher. It is downloadable from the button with a blue registry file symbol on it labeled: "브래인접슥 레지스트리" .
When you install Brainclan's MINI, you need to be sure to not include ANY of the additional components it will attempt to put on your system. After that, my recommendation is to use "Brainclan" from the selectable gateways and not touch "Fish". It tend to mess up your registry and tries to delete other gateways from foreign servers like iCCup.
After that, enjoy playing. Brain is a great deal more difficult at every level, and grows exponentially harder as you ascend the ranks. Pretty much everyone B-/B is semipro, and any higher often means you're facing ex-progamers or something ridiculously skilled of that sort. Good luck. You'll need it.
Isn't there another foreign server? I think it was South American? Someone said its not quite up to iccup but better than bnet players. I figured that should be looked into/added too.
that's the site that I used to find BrainClan / Fish 5-6 years ago. There's a bunch of tiny servers that no one really knows about. If they're good? I guess you'll have to figure that out yourself.
Do you require any additional software (ie Chaos-like stuff) to play on brain and/or fish servers, or to get people to not bail [like people do to no-ah on iCCup]? Does anyone have links to this software? I should include them in the main thread, and I will give a setup guide with pictures for sake of completeness if you do need these.
I should state that I have only played iCCup before, this is all new to me.

You only need minilauncher.
(It's basically the korean version of Chaoslauncher and is compatible with Chaoslauncher.)

This is so awesome. I keep getting alot of lag playing people in my timezone from Korea on Iccup, so I hope that there is less lag on servers that are hosted in Korea.

iCCup is actually one of the least populated and least difficult server amongst the private server group. You want pro and mass-games? Any Korean server will do.
On February 23 2011 15:57 Ideas wrote: holy shit, are there really that many people playing BW on these other servers? I thought ICCUP was the only private server for BW :O
lol Iccup is like Bronze league or D level compared to Brain Server.
It's just insane how much of a skill gap there really is in Brood War.
There's an etiquette for Brainclan that you should learn to follow. When you join ladder, PM people only around your own current rank with the game name/pass you plan to use. Not that its unheard of to go "you make" but that's more of a foreigner thing. On there, if you can't make games, click "join". Don't even think there's a possibility of not finding one. Otherwise, spam whispers of your name and pass. Also learn to use chaos properly so you can enable the LAN latency.
- Added information from sCCrooked to the thread. Made a few small fixes. - Added some ideological "why the frick would we do this" sort of information. - You can see the latest change (usually) marked with new. Using mostly spoiler tags to keep photos/long messages under control for people.
Hey 1a2a3apro, sent you a rather lengthy PM. It states pretty much everything I can compile as to what to expect on Brainclan. Feel free to use any/all of it b'-')b
Hope some people decide to come visit the Korean servers. There are English-speaking Koreans believe it or not and its actually sort of a fad to speak nothing but English because it annoys those who don't know it. I'd still recommend learning to title all your games with the Korean map names: IE "토혼" instead of "FS" in your title will get people to join. Not all of us are anti-foreigner.
I also caution people here because I know there's a lot of people looking for fun and community. If you want those things, stick to iCCup. Brainclan isn't for you. Brainclan is a place where the players take their skills and games pretty seriously. Legitimately playing in your rank (unless you're on the way up permanently), honest practice of skills, and good etiquette will get you far there.
Just to give you an idea, Brainclan has its own official sponsored e-Sports Association title "BeSPA" that runs the Brainclan Proleague (their version of a Clan War sort of), and Brainclan Starleague (the individual league). Training there is also traditionally done "King of the Hill" style. If you win, you keep playing every challenger until you lose. Its grueling training, but if you want to know why Korean hours on iCCup are so much more difficult than the other timeslots, its because they do things like this every day in mass. Go ahead and mass KOTH every day with Koreans. I bet you move up a rank or 2 in a couple months or less.
Crooked do you know anything about fish server? Brainclan is still down at the moment and I still don't know how to start laddering on fish. Any info would be appreciated.
On February 25 2011 12:41 icemac wrote: This is pretty intense. How does one use the korean language packs that seemingly everyone there has? Do i need a korean install?
You need to change the language for non-unicode programs to korean in "Region and Language" in "Control Panel" in win7/vista. Dunno about mac/linux though. I also heard you could download some other program.
- Added a lot of information about etiquette on BrainClan - Added a coming soon section for things I want to add soonish - Moved and refactored a lot of the thread to make it more straight-forward
sCCrooked if you could get some information on how to easily read/write Korean characters [even if it's just copy-paste] for making maps, I'd appreciate it. It'd be excellent if people could do this without having to install anything too heavy or change their regional settings, but this may not be possible. You PMd me something about what to look for with /lgame, but I don't even have a Korean language pack installed! ^_^

Yes, this will work. I advise people, however, to hold off. BrainClan is still down, there is no rush. I will hopefully find a simpler solution for people before they come back online.

Fish I'm told has increased its ladder requirement. Like Brainclan with the 10 hour rule, its to limit smurfs and multiple-accounts. Of course if you're dedicated, multiple accounts is perfectly fine. They just make it a serious hassle so you won't do it unless you're a serious player. To my knowledge, it used to be 10 regular games to play ladder. I have been since informed through Korean friends that the amount has been increased to 30 games in order to contend with the massive amounts of traffic that Brainclan being down has caused. Fish and Brain have had a long standing rivalry and have had multiple Server-Wars where the whole servers play each other in massive tournaments. After you play the 30, you should be able to join the ladder channels and play normally through their ranks. I did not play on Fish extensively though due to the registry files writing over my iCCup and Brainclan (so annoying to replace) so I'm sorry I can't give more personal experience.

Thanks Crooked. Would you say having a language pack for Korean is essential, nice to have, not really necessary? And for what, hosting, joining, etc? It seems like quite a bit of a hassle if it's not really needed.
I am whoring information about Fish/Brain etiquette from you because you seem to be the resident TeamLiquid Korean replying here XD.
I'd say its pretty essential for playing on any of these servers. Its almost impossible to get anybody to game unless your title is at least in Korean with #LL/#L2 on it. Also you won't be able to tell what map you're playing unless you can figure out the Korean titles. Hosting is a huge necessity as well. Most Koreans are playing in PC Cafes which are all capable of hosting games. So pretty much everybody on any of these servers will be able to host, but as this is for foreigners trying to play there, you'll need to be able to host as well since you'll be suggesting games and not shouting for someone to make one. Of course you can just hit the join button and hit one of the many games always going on, but its faster to host your own.
Hi! I want to ask, is the Brainclan and Fish server minilauncher the same? Can i use the Brainclan launcher to go on and use it as AH for Fish server? Or are they different software?

MINI Launcher works on any server, even iCCup. It includes Chaos so as long as everyone has MINI on, and the game is #L2/#LL, you could go on any server and play with LAN lat.

Yeah it didn't work with just the pack dl'ed so I'm gonna try the same .
Yeah everything in windows is in korean now but bnet still has ?????? and weird symbols everywhere.
- added registry permissions editing video for Windows XP. This will allow you to make it so Fish does not change your registry when you go to their server. *edit* - added video for Windows 7 - need to make Korean language pack install more clear for people. I'll get to it.
If people could help me out with supplying some information to users, I'd appreciate it, and I'd credit you if I used it in the thread.
*EDIT* Oopsie. So, the registry hack doesn't work. Turns out I didn't test it adequately. If someone can take a look at what I may have goofed, let me know. I'm more familiar with Linux.
Worked for me. I changed the System Locale to Korea, so that any program that doesn't display unicode will default to Korean (a la Fish server in BW.)
I've also got my keyboard set-up to swap between English and Korean. That one should be easy enough for you guys to figure out. Now I just need to learn the language XD

Woops I had my keyboard set to kor lolol, yeah this method works! However I can only type hangul in Wmode .
How do you guys see the number of people online? When i go on, there arent any number that indicates the number of online players on the MOTD... On another note, yeah, i made friends with Korean and played games!

Is there a place where we can report people for being bad mannered and hacking? So far I've encountered two bad mannered players and multi-command 2000 APM hacker. Other than that fish server is pretty fun ^^.

Unfortunately unless you have a Korean social security number, I don't think you can even sign up on the sites for Brain/Fish to report them. Fish isn't as secure or serious as Brainclan was and they were known for being kinda craptastic compared to it. Their skill level is still significantly above that of iccup, but their structure for rules and policies are much less developed than Brain. Fish wasn't the official minor leagues of the progaming SC scene after all. Brain was.
Do you need mini-launcher? I seem to be able to connect fine to the korean servers after the registry change, and it seems chaos is still used with mini-launcher. My point is, why is it necessary to use mini-launcher?

You don't need a KSSN to log on the fish website. You can use your username and password from the login in BW. Brain and MapZine do require a KSSN however.
awesome guide! im currently downloading the minilauncher, although ive had problems with it in the past, hopefully it works this time with the additional info..
I also have Avast and it stopped me because of a virus threat What to do?

I figure it's coz it's korean server but I've been told by few koreans that shouldn't matter that much. Any thoughts?
I haven't actually lagged in any of my games, but most have a really huge delay on them. I'm using the minilauncher as well.

Hmm. I get under 150 with /ping from Canada. I'm not sure being in Europe should have anything to do with it?
Start -> cmd in typing box, *enter* [or start->run->cmd in xp] tracert lemon.brain.com Copy text or screen-shot for me and I'll take a look.
hmm i installed mini launcher, got no virsues, didnt disable anything either, also my registry file is unchanged after adding the fish server reg, i guess im lucky lol :D perfect install, played fish last night, went and checked had all the servers, tested asia, east, west, europe, iccup all worked fine, iccup is down though. strange i guess it just depends on the computer or something.
Everything is working great for me so far, including the korean language installation, thanks! Is there really anything to do on Fish until those 10 hours are up though? I want to play some 1v1 =/

you have to play 30 games on Fish in order to ladder. Brain is the one with the 10 hour requirement. You can play team games, UMS, etc while you wait.

ah thanks. I still see 1v1 games listed under melee, but not One on One. That's normal? Also, is there any way you are supposed to judge your opponent when message people for games? Just regular b.net points? I see there's not letter ranks like iCCup or Brain. Another question: can we just 1v1 a comp for 30 games?
also anyone has an update on brain server status? i dun like that fish manipulates my registry really^^ but seems the only server to go to.... well i'm not really playing but still :D
For those worried about lag, BW is entirely peer to peer - the bnet/lobby is just for setting up the games. Who you are playing and where the are based determines your latency.

Pretty sure any melee game counts so comps should work. i think when u ladder u spam game names to people then make one vs one or something like that. Not just host randomly like on iccup

are you joining games with #ll, #l1 or #l2 at the end of them? if not, the latency launcher doesn't kick in, and you'll get the delay. If you join the #l2 or similar games, you'll have trhe lan lat just like iccup and no delay problems.
This was actually somewhat long so I put it in spoiler sections for organization. So you know my experience level I will say that I have played maybe 30 games on the Fish server with around 10 being ladder. jOypOp`` is my username if you want to find me on online.
Fish (and Brain too) use a different ladder system than ICCup does. Instead of having letter ranks from D- up to A+ (and special CPU/E or Olympic ranks), its basically an ELO system. Think back to the old Bnet ladder if you played back then. If your number is high, you are ranked better. I once heard that 1600 Brainclan is around A- ICCup so if Fish is the same then that "goodplayer" sitting at 1714 is pretty gosu.
In the chat people are advertising or searching for games. If you saw people on ICCup spamming "D Python Msg" "C- Zerg fighting spirit" or anything similar, that is what is happening here.
If you don't have the Korean Font installed it can be kind of hard to get a game quickly so I suggest you do that before trying to ladder. In the screenshot there are basically 3 spams that are good for pointing out things.
A. This basically says "1207+++ Mini Launcher" B. joolri1014's spam says "1047 ++ Mini Launcher Fighting Spirit" C. I can't really translate exactly (I'm not korean so I'm learning this from experience mainly) BUT the way I translate it is "901 ZvZ play msg~~@".
Looking at this list shows two or three important things.
Most Koreans will play certain maps and only those maps (usually Fighting Spirit or python). They also like to focus train their matchups so joining a game that advertised ZvZ and picking Terran will only make you look about as silly as stork did at the OSL finals .
When you find a game that looks good, send a whisper to that person. It doesn't have to be anything complex. What I do is go /w Jungwoo- 533#L2/1 and create fighting spirit. Wait like 20-30 seconds and if he doesn't join I repeat the process. It takes 1-3 tries before I get someone into my game.
There are some key vocabulary items you can memorize to help get games easier. For now I'm just listing what I can think of off the top of my head but I might add more later.
The Races: 테란 = Terran 저그 = Zerg 플토 = Protoss 프토 = Protoss 토스 = Protoss they many times also shorten race names with the first syllable so it would become 테 저 프프 (for PvP matchups etc).
Other stuff 만 = Only 귓 = Message 방 = Room (Game room/lobby in this context) 주세요 = (kind of like "Please" I guess?) 방주세요 = (Basically combining 방주세요 meaning "you make") 투혼 = Fighting Spirit 파이썬 = Python 한겜 = One Game ㄱㄱ / 고고 = gogo ㅈㅈ / 지지 = gg 초보 = Chobo (Noob) 고수 = Gosu
Using this you can pick and pull parts to create game advertisement spams or read them if you can't host. Being unable to host though will make it 10x harder to join games.
Examples (feel free to copy paste if you want): 970+++ 저그만 투혼!!~ 943+++ 토혼 방주세요~~~ 1013++++ 파이썬 442#L2/1 875 토스 초보만!! etc. I'll let you translate them though as practice for reading this stuff.
Everything here though is what has worked for me. It should be pretty accurate except where I said I wasn't completely sure. If anyone has questions just ask. Tired of formatting and stuff so I'll just update my post like it is now. ^_^
So now Fish is down, too. The only server I can connect to at the moment is Mapzine. Does anyone know anything about Mapzine? Is the level of play there high? How do you play ladder games, and do you have to do anything first to get to play ladder?
Imagine if the Korean servers are all down and all of them people play on iCCup when its back on 50k on iCCup, that will be amazing. Argh! Why is Fish down at the only time I'm free for this week!? Any news on the Fish server on what's up?

The messages on iccup are regular daily maintenances and the others that show a clan name are for the Fish Starleague. The regular maintenance is done everyday to make sure everyone online is active and to update the AH everyday so they do not have to have long maitenances like ICCUP. The maitenances only last an hour or two.

I'm having issues with getting the korean to show up all I see are question marks and I've installed the language pack required i just don't know if there is something i am missing or what?
for my win7 non-professional/ultimate setup, I had to change the region/language settings for "non-unicode" programs to "korean". It makes things like "\" show up as the "W" with the slash, but you will be able to read korean in BW.

I've updated the thread with additional information. I quoted Crooked without trying it, turns out we were both wrong about that working as Battle.net does not use unicode. =/
hi, ive tried many times to create games on the fish server but i havent been able to get anyone to join my games, something im able to do on iccup and b.net.
do we need to open some special ports other than 6112-6119 for Fish server?

BroodWar uses port 6112 for hosting games. This is the only port you should need forwarded.
Go to op teamliquid and see if you can host with them. It may be the case that no one is joining your games (do you have name in Korean?)

Unfortunately, no, at least, not if you want to use anti-hack. You cannot run any Chaos plugins for iCCup Launcher which are not supported in the Launcher menu, ie AutoReplay, etc. Now, could you connect with your own plugins? Yes. But do so at your own risk:
1) No anti-hack or LAN latency. 2) iCCup may get mad and wonder what sort of third-party software you are using [ie hack?] and drop the ban-hammer.
just thought id contribute to this marvelous thread
running windows xp sp3, you can indeed set the non unicode characters to korean just like windows 7 and vista, to do so go to control panel -> regional language options -> regional and language options -> advanced, and in the top box "Language for non-Unicode programs" fill in Korean from the dropbox.
To do this you MUST have the East Asian languages installed as shown in your guide.
This will make your BW show up in korean..however to my knowledge for some reason the messages people type still show up as gibberish, but at least you can read game names now

You could probably disable your virus protection then re-enable it after. You should probably scan afterwords to be safe.
To make an account on Fish is the same way you would make it on Battle.net. You could then use the same login and password you made to log in on the Fish website.

I am not really eager to disable my anti-virus in order to run something that it considers a trojan. Are we 100% sure that this is just my anti-virus being silly and my computer will not get totally fucked if I do that?

I never got a trojan when I dl'd mini. It's just your AV being triggered by false positives etc. Just ignore.
You also don't need to do anything on the Fish site or even visit it to "activate" account.

Oh yeah, while this makes it so you can read announcements and b.net chat, I don't think it allows you to read map file names and in game chat. I think you have to install a language pack for this.
If you're not running windows 7 premium/ultimate and are running home edition, you have to run vistalizator: http://www.froggie.sk/download.html . EDIT: NVM. doesn't work.
Anyone know if downloading the "korean" client of brood war from blizzard's site would work?
NVM, you actually have to go to "Format" under regional settings and change that to Korean as well.

if you have the Korean Language Pack installed (google it if you don't) then press left alt + left tab. After that you will be able to change the keys of your keyboard with the right alt.

Can anyone explain why koreans stopped playing on iccup? You used to have to go multiple pages into the ladder rankings to find a non-korean, but now there's a bunch on the first page. Are fish / brain newer than I realize and koreans switched to them or did something happen that caused a lot of koreans to switch or what?

Somthing about Iccup being a dump with nothing but BM'ers and bad players, I don't blame them iccup sucks compared to fish.
My Minilauncher works fine on brainclan. Are you useing #L2 at the game name?
Also Brainclan is still empty, just 10+- ppl on ladder channel. There are like 80++ ppl on Fish ladder channel. When I use /status on brainclan it shows 140 or 150 ppl Less ppl than ICCUP.

can we start up op teamliquid or liquidparty on fish? I remember seeing snowfantasy on brainclan :D but yeah im on both servers a lot and im the only foreigner i see on usually
i even learned basic korean so i have something to talk about because it was that lonely
all you really need to know to is rr = gogo ww= gg dd = yes ss = no xnghs = fighting spirit xhtm = toss wjrm = zerg xpfks = terran
just install korean language support and your good to go :D soon youll be able to recognize the words and feel gosu by typing korean ^_^
i think im going to start a TL fish server whoiswho thread where people post their usernames to promote foreigner activity on fish...its really a great server..and MiniLauncher/wLauncher outclasses Iccup launcher by far imo
if you type xnghsrhtnaks it means "fighting spirit gosu only" (in korean obv) ive been using that to host public games before i can ladder lol
I joined a korean clan on fish today, thanks to some korean friends from my iccup team. Ill be using `B.DragOn on fish for now. I still have like 25 games to go before I can ladder, so if anyone wants to play a few, msg me.
@shinjin yeah thats a good idea, i know there are foreigners who play but op teamliquid has always been empty when i check. Also a database of english keyboard to korean characters would be really helpful.

I have korean language installed and i can write korean everywhere except BW. How do you type korean on BW? my language bar is on korean but it just types nromal letters on the server.
I can read an write korean on bnet (iccup brainclan) without changing windows language to korean I don' know If this has been posted before but the op says you need to change your location to display korean on Windows XP (which changes the windows menus to korean). You don't!!
You just have to change non-unicode programs language to korean as I show in the pic: (Windows XP) 1. On Control panel ->regional and language options go to advanced tab 2. On the drop down menu select korean 3. Clic aply and it will install from your XP CD. (sorry for the ugly pic)
Note: You must have installed East asian languages for this to work. Also some other non-unicode programs may change their display, I don't use any other non-unicode programs so it is no problem for me :D
Just a couple of questions about Brain server and the MiniLauncher:
Do I need to enable the antihack when I launch BW using MiniLauncher? If so, how?
Do the very low level players on the ladder use the most modern Korean builds and play trends or is it more similar to iccup in that you get people using all sorts of different builds from all different eras, many of which are outdated?
How come I can't see people's ranks? Is it because I haven't been on the server for 10 hours so I'm not officially on ther ladder? All I can see right now is the old battle.net icons, the rectangle with the stars on, for all players.

Just one thing, maybe someone can help. I downloaded the maps from the kespa website, but when I open them in BW there are still all the random symbols in the map description and the map name. Any idea how to get a fix for this?
Does anyone knows if there is a complaint system on fish? somebody just used the stacked scv bug to defeat me. Is there somewhere I can complaint and if you speak korean can you plz write a complaint for me? I just want him penalized I don-t care about the points.
So I'm sitting in op teamliquid on Brain waiting for my 10 hours to pass, and this guy comes in called WhiteTree. I say hi and he says "머하는 채널임여", which I google translated as "What are you doing over the channel Im". I know you're not supposed to chat in the ladder channels as it's good etiquette, but I assumed as I was in a totally random channel I'd be ok chatting. So, what's the deal?
Zarathustra, I'd just leave it man, not much you can really do.
some people hack and drop in the melee games on fish, no idea if theres a complaint system but ive seen a few people who have their own antihack. dont know where to get it though. Also ive yet to find an abuser on ladder, I think its a lot more respectful there.
If i connect to BrainClan server my starcraft crashes at "accessing account" i could join on fish server and on iccup but not on brain
adding minilauncher to dep list didnt help, i coulndt add starcraft.exe and what does this weird cmd line makes to my computer?
oh great now i cant play on iccup too because it gives me some UDP port error and i can only chat now on iccup /edit: ok this now works again after reinstalling iccup registryfile

If you have an account on the Fish website I think you can just go to the 신고센터 (Report Center) and lodge a complaint.
I've been logged in for ten hours and still don't see an option for a ladder game. Is there some other thing I need to do, like win 10 melee games or something like that?
Brainclan's ladder skill is ridiculously high even at <1000 points. I'm C+ on Iccup and ppl with just 900 or 800 points can crush me like I was nothing obviously there are exceptions but the most of them just rape me.
On fish I can comfortably sit on 1000 points without going up or down. I think anyone could play on fish and use the 30 game rule to practice for the ladder. But on brainclan I would say if you didn't hit at least C- on iccup they are going to lower you down to the "loser" rank easily. I even lost 0-2 to one guy ranked as "loser"

yeah i'm having the same issue with brainclan, it works fine on iccup and fish but brain crashes at that point, at first i read that it was a compatibility issue so set win xp compatibility but that did nothing, so i'm not really sure what the problem is now.
on the fish server, they use different maps than ones posted at kespa or in their own forums... where do i get korean maps that people are using at fish. they just ban/kick when you try downloading ingame.

Everybody uses different versions. I have 15 versions of Fighting Spirit and 25-30 of Python in my DL folder from the ~110 games ive played on Fish. If you aren't capable of hosting games there is literally nothing you can do except keep trying to join a game.
"I have heard mixed reports as to whether or not you can use iCCup launcher (Chaos) for Korean servers safely."
So does anyone know if it's possible to use the iCCup Launcher on Brain?
EDIT#1: Uhh, 1a2a3aPro your "allscservers" registry file totally screwed up my BW.. I can't join any server now. Keeps telling me "Battle.net was unable to properly identify your application version." How do I undo the changes caused by the file?
EDIT#2: Okay, so the weird thing is that, for some reason, I'm able to log into all servers except for Brain when using the iCCup Launcher; however, when I run BW normally through starcraft.exe, I can't access any server. When using the Mini Launcher, I can only access the Fish server.
I'm having the same problem as some other people posted above: my game crashes whenever I attempt to access the Brain server. Anyone know how to fix this?

just having some questions. is fish and brainclan more populated than iccup nowadays? if so, is it more brutal than iccup and are there any kinds of ranking system in them?
Yes they are both more populated than iccup, and the average skill level is certainly much higher. Even creating public non-ladder melee games on fish, I've had people join who were clearly B- level or above.
Yeah skill level is pretty good on fish. I'm usually on fish server playing 3s on hunters and let me tell you it's way way better than playing it anywhere else.
So I decided to prepare a map pack for brain and fish so that everyone doesn't need to download gajillion maps and one can simply download the pack. Can you tell me which maps do you see the most?
I'll include: 1- Python 2- Fighting Spirit 3- Circuit Breaker 4- Bloody Ridge 5- Aztec 6- Fortress 7- Benzene 8- Empire of the Sun
For now. If you got any more suggestions, tell me.
Brain is back up? I got korean language working and it says I can play ladder games but there are only like 8 people in the ladder channel... what is the deal?

btw, do you know how to look for how many games have i already played for fish server? Cuz if i play melee vs ai it doesn't count at my statistic when i double click my profile and i would kinda like to know if i am close to those 30 games that are needed
Any guide on hosting non ladder games? I just don't know what to put in game name and when I try to join games I always get kicked because of download.

On another note: Whenever I connect to Brainclan via BW after changing the registry, the application crashes. I can connect to fish fine... What's the problem?
I don't feel like laddering on iccup, but I'm not here to talk about it.
I wanted to play on Brainclan but I keep getting the "unable to connect server" or something like that. I'm using the reg file from Brainclan. Is brainclan down? I don't think so because there are only 8000 ppl on fish right now. Can somebody else join Brainclan server?

I highly doubt anybody would play with you without lan latency even if it was allowed. A ton of people find non lan latency bw unplayable. There is no reason to not use lan latency unless you want to abuse zergs in TvZ because they are pretty much forced to go lurkers if lan latency is not enabled.
The most I have seen on Brain recently is about 4,000 people. Fish definitely has more people but the Brain ladder is in my experience a lot harder and I still haven't problems getting games.

This might be a stupid question, but I have mini working on my desktop and I wanted to put it on my laptop and for some reason it glitches out and says "source file not found for latencychanger.bwl" and AdvBnet.bwp, APMlive.bwp, Hotkeyselector.bwp. Some anti-virus programs flag the plugins as trojans. I recommend disabling your anti-virus when using mini or whitelisting the plugin files if possible.

So I'm new to BW and looking to get into it, but I have no clue what server to go on. I thought ICCup was the server to go on but apparently it has only 800 people..
could anyone write something to copy paste in korean to help get games? just something like "1:1 fighting go" would be cool, or is it not really neccessary?
On July 13 2011 05:59 Razith wrote: So I'm new to BW and looking to get into it, but I have no clue what server to go on. I thought ICCup was the server to go on but apparently it has only 800 people..
I'm pretty confused, could anyone help me out?
A lot of people (myself included) dislike Iccup because they're admins have pulled a lot of bullshit, which spurred some of us to start playing on Fish. However, if you're just learning, I imagine it coul be jarring to have everything in unreadable text, so it might be a good idea to stick to Iccup for the time being, at least until you have a handle on things. There shouldn't be too much difficulty finding games at D levels in Iccup, as the that makes up the large majority of the 800 players, so don't worry about that too much.
On February 27 2011 09:46 SnowFantasy wrote: This was actually somewhat long so I put it in spoiler sections for organization.
Examples (feel free to copy paste if you want): 970+++ 저그만 투혼!!~ 943+++ 투혼 방주세요~~~ 1013++++ 파이썬 442#L2/1 875 토스 초보만!! etc. I'll let you translate them though as practice for reading this stuff.
Everything here though is what has worked for me. It should be pretty accurate except where I said I wasn't completely sure. If anyone has questions just ask. Tired of formatting and stuff so I'll just update my post like it is now. ^_^
Quoting this post I made a while back so more people see it~

Its fine to go on ICCUP if your rank is lower than C- you'll get plenty of games there. But if you want to play more competitive go play on Fish and Brain.
can any1 help me out? when i go to open mini launcher and it asks to update it keep doing that over and over to ask me if i wanna update and also when i press no and go to the launcher part it doesn't say starcraft broodwar (version number) or whatever so i go to locate it but it crashes every time. any1 else have these problems?
One tricky question: say i do not have korean language support and i create a game on the fish server by copy/paste 1:1 파이썬#L2 in the 'name' box... what i see is 1:1 ???#L2 BUT do the koreans see 1:1 파이썬#L2 or 1:1 ???#L2 ?

It doesn't matter what version of windows 7 you have, you need to set your region to S. Korea in order to see Korean text in a game lobby and in a game.

Beside that it's a really good server, there are always tons of people to play with. I recommand it!
hmmm is anyone else having issues getting past the "accessing account" on brainclan? it seems to freeze and doesn't let me login
Yes I had the exact same problem. I solved it by downloading LML's Minilauncher folder and different registry of all SC servers. I think downloading another player's minilauncher folder is nearly guaranteed to solve your problem .

Well I clic something on the wjoiner and it takes me to a game with slots closed and a guy joining instantly, I guess its more of a fast way to create than a AMM, Problem is this doesn't work with #LL or at least I don't know how to activate it. :S
Whenever I try downloading mini launcher, my Mcaffe warns me of a file called "Artemis" or something like that and telling me it's a trojan and when i try to remove it i get "You're about to remove programs taht may have been installed as a bundle or suite. Please read the program's liscence agreement before removing."
I followed all the instructions and put a red X on the add-ons. When I remove the artemis file, I keep getting a message that I'm missing a file called "brain.bwl" but I'm scared to allow the trojan. Ami the only one getting this error?

There is a work around for this. It involves editing the permissions for accessing the registry key which has your Battle.Net gateways. This edit will allow you to connect to Fish without them changing your servers on you.
Some Notes: - Once this process is done, it must be undone if you wish to change your gateways again from the user account you disable write access to, or you must login/run regedit scripts/regedit as Administrator in order to modify it again. - Replace "Melf" [not my computer... don't ask], or "Jon" depending what video you watched, with your account name. - If your permissions screen looks different or you run into problems, reply here before changing.

So I basically have to play 30 "test" melee games with random people by hosting and then I can play the real ladder on Fish? How do I see, which games are suited for my rank (~D)? How do I name the game so people on my level will join for the melee games??
Edit: I just saw the point about whispering people on my rank, what channel should I join? When I logged in I was in a channel with no people at all.
Edit2:Apparently I forgot about the minilauncher, I'll come back in a few minutes.

yes
Thanks, I got people to join my game but they still have to download the map for some reason. I downloaded for example Python from the Kespa website and put it in C:\Program Files (x86)\starcraft\maps\BroodWar. Did I do something wrong? Which of the 3 maps should I host btw? (There is OB, TR and one with just Python1.3.scx)
Another question: I checked Latencychanger for 1.16.1 in the minilauncher and put #l2 at the end of the game but it was still lagging, another mistake from my side? And what does it mean when people call their game #l2/1? I can't find the game in that case.

Host the regular Python1.3.scx.
The / is the break between the game name and the password. Eg. 4545#l2/1 = game name 4545#l2 password = 1
There are hundreds of versions of Python/Fighting Spirit. Not saying that they are all different in the actual map, but just with the naming of them. I have 20+ 투혼1.3 maps, 20+ fighting spirit 1.3 maps (same map btw, just korean / english names).
Not everyone has the exact same versions. similarly to ICCUP how they come out with a new version of a map pack every so often, and you have to redownload your maps again.
So here I was minding my own business on Fish, when some random guy started typing korean at me. It's what they do apparently. So my defense mechanism is the simple yet decisive phrase that anyone can understand: "no korean".
But this korean friend was unusually friendly, so he asked me the famous "u from". I replied Europe, but that didn't seem to bother him nor make an impact. He proceeded to BM me. (The following excerpts are quoted from memory, since I didn't think of saving them T_T):

my mini launcher had an issue where if I was playing, (i use shift+tab so i'm teal and my opponent is red) and then it would randomly deselect all of my units, color me red, and i would be disconnected and my game would crash.
I tried uninstalling mini launcher, but it said it had a corrupt uninstallation file so it's stuck on my computer, as windows.exe becomes unresponsive when i try to move it to the recycle bin.
I now just use w-launcher. It's just as good in my opinion.
Everytime I tried to update my stupid symantecAV(required to have by my school internet policy) would reject the update, so then I disabled it and ran it. But now I can't see anyone in the chat rooms and all the rooms I joined are empty or have a bot named @^^ and are moderated...

A reg file is just a txt file with a different extension. Just right-click on the reg link in the OP and click "Save as..." and then save it to your desktop.
What's happening is your browser is displaying the reg file's contexts as text instead of downloading it for you like it should.
One of the rules on here is don't smurf. Honestly, how many of you have played against a korean with a random string of numbers for their names? Or just random letters? I mean if 124879357023 isn't smurfing, I don't know what is.

rofl gg. I think laddering on Fish is really difficult if you can't host. Your best bet is to just keep asking for an English/number name to eventually get a game. >.<
Once you do get something you can join the games are sooo worth it though.

dRaW ladders without being able to type or read korean. He just types "gogo game?" to whoever is around his points and if they respond with some korean game name he just asks them "english game name please". It works for him so try that.
Koreans can understand basic "you make" "go game" and things like that. Just try and if they don't understand there's 30000 other koreans .

I can't seem to get minilauncher to update itself. It will just go to the update, and then time out and restart and ask for an update again. Does anyone have a direct link or dl for the newest update for mini. I'm thinking if I just add the file I can directly place it in the folder and hopefully it will run correctly.

when i'm in the ladder channel, not all of the rankings show up next to the player name in the player list, only some show up and it's completely random. Sometimes if I click on the player name several times the ranking will show. It's the same in iccup with the letter ranks not showing all the time Does anyone else get this problem?
My ping on these servers is 500 - 1200. I use latencychanger and join games that end on #l2 or so but the games are just laggy. Most of times I'm banned from the lobby - maybe cuz downloading a map usually takes minute or more. Am i doing anything wrong ? What are your pings guyz ?
it's not a big deal to have a high ping connecting to the server. it's understandable as you're thousands of miles / kilometers away.
It shouldn't effect the game as bad as you say though. Have you tried closing other programs like browser, etc...? My map dl usually takes a while as well. But once I download it, it is rare to find a super laggy game.
I've been playing on Fish recently and I've found it easy to get games. I'm playing in the 'sGs C level tourny' and 1 of the maps that I will be playing on is Jade. On Iccup, it is very hard to get games on anything that is not Python/Fighting Spirit [especially since Python is MOTW this week] and getting games on a map like Jade that most people don't play on is next to impossible if you want to mass game. However, I've been playing melee games on Fish server and just copy pasting korean from page 6 of this thread and just typing 제이드 만 테란 프토 #L2 which means Jade only Protoss Terran and I haven't had a problem getting games at all. The only issue is that some of the opponents seem to be not that good but thats because I haven't played 30 games yet, and I am unable to ladder on Fish.
I recommend Fish for anyone looking to practice specific match-ups, specific maps, or is looking for an active server during Korean hours. I was just on ICCup and it has about 400 people online right now, while Fish has about 30,000+ people online. Obviously, you can see it would be easier to get games on Fish.
All you need to do is get korean working on your pc, or just the ability to copy paste and just make games and someone will join, and when you can ladder, just copy paste some generic message and spam everyone. I know this is a big wall of text but just typing this in case someone is put off by going on a korean server where they can't communicate. However, if you can't host games, then you might have a hard time.
Fish does have 30,000 people during korean hours. But for people in Europe playing in the evening / at night, Fish is almost as deserted as Iccup. You mentioned maps as being a +1 for Fish when actually it's not. 90% of games are on FS and the other 10% are on Python. Sure, people on Iccup don't always adapt quickly to the newer maps but most of them do play MOTW. And you don't even have to install wacky korean fonts and copy paste them to get a different map than FS. Then there's also the lag. Fish lags more than Iccup for most people. And if this weren't enough, the whole concept of high latency is very frowned upon by koreans. I would start 3-4 games just to have people leave after 1-2 minutes while continuously typing redundant shit. I'd rather wait for a few minutes on Iccup than to go through this time and time again. Finally, if what you're after is laddering, Iccup has the upper hand, at least at the not so high levels. You don't have to message people for games, you can report faggots who disconnect after 40 minute long games, there is MOTW and the whole ladder ranking makes more sense.
I'm not hating on Fish or anything, but I'm tired of people putting it on a pedestal. And people who choose to play on Fish are part of the problem why Iccup doesn't live to its potential, little as it is.

i play on fish over iccup simply because i get games very quickly on fish. on iccup it is inconsistent. yes, iccup has great features but the difference between 400 people and 30k people is too vast to ignore. even if fish only had 5k people, i would still choose fish because the gap between 400 and 5k is big enough to make a difference on the number of games found.
not sure about europe or the east coast, but I play from the west coast and i rarely lag on fish.
Btw where can I get a big map-pack with the Fish maps? I have downloade the "kespa pack" but I still have to DL like every time and I get banned cus slow DL -___-
i downloaded the link. Now I can't connect to any server. "Battle.net was unable to properly recognize your application version..." Any one know what is going on and how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.
I just restart my game. Whenever I try to login to a public battle.net server after on a private one, I get that message. When I restart BW it fixes (as long as I join the server I want to join first).
I've changed all region and language settings for Windows 7 home premium and I'm now able to read and type in Korean both in game and in channel, but game names still come up as boxes when viewing the game list. Is there a way I can fix this as well? It's not that big of a deal because I can host, but I'd really like to fix it if anyone has a suggestion.
Due to internal conflict, complaints, and few mod-abuse etc. etc, the person who owns the server just shut down the Fish Battlenet server, as well as the website, irc chat and anything that's related to Fish Server

Brain has been dead for a while due to the person who shut down fish (apparently something to do with aqua launcher).
ATM the domain www.brainclan.com has been taken over by the KR government. Just play on iCCup (I know, it sucks, but there's no other choice atm).

I'm actually kinda disappointed, if fish + brain went down there would likely go to ICCup and we can all live happily ever after.(would they if fish did shut down?)

I don't want to start a new thread on it but can someone write in Korean "Hey you let's play? I been just whispering random people "Four#ll//Four play???" no luck....I receive some messages back but when I hosted, they don't join. And would be great if you can also write Yes/No in Korean so I know their response.
If you're trying to get games, make sure to put something along these lines in channel: I will edit this message when I get home, this work computer does not have Korean on it. I will put the english key equivalents until then.
"1089+++" <-- this number should be your current points rank. The plus symbols mean "this or higher please".
"투혼, 파이썬, etc" / "vnghs, vkdlTjs, etc" These "tuhon" "paisseon" etc are the map names. Its important to let them know what you're playing.
When you send them whispers, make sure to format it something like:
That format gives first the map name >> then the "han gaem" which is basically asking them to game. Next the number is your numerical rank and lastly the game name and password. Its best to not choose english-names for your game names although there are still Koreans who will join regardless of what the name is. However I've found that most people use this format.
Also "yes" is "예" / "ye" or "dP" or sometimes "응" / "dmd" or "eung" for slang. "no" is usually "아니오" / "anio" or "dksldh".
**Edited with Korean text also added link**
Also for those of you who were looking for the "allscserver" file in the dead links, try this one. I just re-uploaded it to this account. Enjoy!
Hi there. New problem. I can't seem to log on my account Reclusive anymore and I don't know why. Here's the screenshot with the error message. http://i.imgur.com/7T4gB.png I was playing on Fish server fine but then I decided to log on Iccup then I decided to go back to Fish and I couldn't get into the account anymore. I can make new account and play on the new account but just cannot log back into Reclusive. The game before that happen, I ALT+QQ the game when my opponent type gg so I left the game before I get the victory message. It's not the first time this has happen. Sometimes I accidently do that. When my opponent type gg, I would just Alt QQ to end the game faster(I do it when I'm playing play/ob games, it's a habit). Not sure if that has anything to do with what had happen. Hopefully the error message helped. Thanks. Edit: According to a Korean friend, the error message say wrong password but that can't be true. I remember the password, it's easy and only 2 letters.. It can't be wrong. He also say it could also be Fish deleted my account.. So yeah.. not sure what happen there. I didn't do anything wrong....I stream my games on there..
The error "비밀번호가 틀립니다" does say you entered a wrong password.
idk if someone would talk to fish admins about you leaving the games after they typed 'gg', and idk if that constitutes as an account lock. Either way, doesn't sound like that great of a situation.

Because korea has 1gbit internal network so if it takes you more than a couple of seconds to DL it is obvious you are not from korea and they dont want to waste their time

If anyone was having trouble like I was with getting language setup for Windows 7 here is the solution I found.
1.) Open Start menu and search:"Change Keyboards or other input methods" 2.) " Tab to: "Keyboards and Languages" and then "Change Keyboards" 3.) In the general tab, add Korean and Microsoft IME, and then above those options select the "Default Input Language" to Korean 4.) Select the Language Bar and make sure "Float on Desktop" "Show Additional Language Bar Icons" and "Show Text Labels" are all checked 5.) Finally select the Administrative tab (which is found on the "Region and Language" prompt) and then select: "Change System Locale" to Korea and follow the prompt to reboot your comp.
This made is possibly to read Korean symbols! The fix in this thread never worked for me, so I thought I would post these findings.

Only thing that I didn't do is updating minilauncher, because my antivirus is saying that will activate virus. Can that be the issue?

minilauncher isnt the problem, can you connect to bnet/iccup? because fish might be down for maintenance when you tried
Yes, I can connect on every other server, ICCup, bnet...and I am sure that maintenance isn't the problem. :S Because I tried to connect when zaraki (or was someone else ) was streaming from fish.

I would probably abandon iCCup if it could be made clear how to actually use Fish.

Maybe. I'm pretty sure it installs some weird stuff anyway even if you say no. Why would you be so trusting of something that's willing to give you the option for adware to begin with? It doesn't matter anyway... There is no reason to use minilauncher over wlauncher.

How are you so sure?
Before installing mini my antivirus completed a full scan with no problems. After I installed it, I immediately checked for viruses and it could no longer complete full scans (would always crash like half way through). Maybe an isolated coincidence, but yesterday was the first time in months I was able to do a full scan, presumably because the scanner got an update for whatever crap mini had installed. I had tried many, many times over the last couple of months to get it to work.
I was still able to do quick scans and I recall it finding one or two things after installing that I had to quarentine and delete. I don't use that comp for anything but writing, school and starcraft, so there aren't a lot of other places I could have gotten something. It's not a case of me being one of those people who looks at random porn sites and then attributes his viruses to something totally innocent. That they have adware at all as an option during installation makes them a pretty good suspect, even if it is 'optional.' It's a little different from yahoo wanting you to install their toolbar (although that's not entirely welcome either).

Just unzip the english version in the link I posted. There is an update for wdetector but that's it. There should be no problems if you run it as admin.
the instructions for wLauncher installation are not very clear at all, I am @ the first window after installing the file, and I don't know what to click "click Left, Right" ... and last time I tried to dL mini I almost got a virus, so can someone clear that up please? (I dont speak korean)
edit: I think I figured it out... hoping for no viruses edit2: trying to get the RPM/stats in rep to work, not working ;;
I followed XsebT's guide for installing minilauncher ( it's on this page http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=236263¤tpage=18 ) and my antivirus found a supicious file/program called something like analy.exe or natanaly.exe, don't want to reinstall again to find out though . I googled its name and got mostly korean ( maybe chinese? ) sites so I couldn't investigate what that program was. Furthermore, before I deleted the program, I noticed that it autoruns on windows start ( you could see it on windows task manager ) but after deleting it it didn't run anymore and the minilauncher still worked normally. The guide in this thread is pretty much the same and you'll get the same supicious file...
Interesting. The only time I've noticed minilauncher installing stuff on my computer was when I told it to install everything lol (including what you are mentioning)
From cadical's reply on the thread I linked. fyi when you close the program it'll open a page to an advertisement... but I don't think that's anything sketchy. Up to you, I mean it doesn't REALLY matter. You can use chaos launcher, you just won't have wdetector.
My sercuity system says that the dl link for mini accualy got a virus or somthing and can't dl mini is there a way i can use like a ah program for fish?
I think i was banned from Fish. cant connect the screen says a bunch of gibberish (no east language pack), click ok, then cd key error, click close, back to gateway select. any ideas?

Everyone is on fish not brain clan lol well at least almost every korean
Cant seem to download the minilauncher from the link provided. I'm using Chrome and it says file is malicious and even when i say keep it will not allow me to dl it.
So, 1v1'ing a comp doesn't count as a win in your profile.
Easiest way is get a friend and wait until 2 minutes have passed, save, and one of you leave. Repeat 30 times. Just 30 games total btw, don't have to be wins.

I think wlauncher is better anyway? Try searching for that instead perhaps.

It's faster (and easier) if you get a friend, and place a zerg computer in the game too. Both scv rush him (take terran, imba scv) at the same time and after the hatch dies you save the game. (game won't end immediately as the hatch dies, it takes a second) Then when you reload you just wait half a second and the game will end on it's own. Also set the game mode on melee so it remembers the game name and just paste the pass every time.

Just a bit below the SC2 maps are the BW maps. Then just put them in your download folder (koreans hate to wait for the download to finish) and Starcraft/maps/BroodWar folder (so you can create them more easily).
You'll basically need just a few maps, you can get away with only FS like 95% of the time.
Btw, your question was answered on the previous page. ;P
I have over 30 games played now, and I could join the ladder channel. Now for some reason I can't join it anymore and I've tried on a few different occasions.... Anyone have any clue why that could be? Guess I could make another account and do the 30 wins from a saved game again.
Thanks for the tip quirinus, will do that if I have to go through that stuff again.
people in stream chat during sonic starleague today said that fish now switched to what brainclan had I think, where you have to be logged in for 24 hours to join ladder. Or maybe added that on top of 30 games of melee.
I similarly played some ladder last fish season (don't know when seasons start/end, but my ladder record is now 0-0), and am unable to join ladder channel too.
So I guess it also resets per season.
*edit* I was able to join ladder after idling for some time. I may have played some melee games with friends this season (don't know when season started), but it clearly has to be time dependent since I have played no further games, couldn't join ladder, then idled and now can
I don't know about Canada but while I'm on Fish it shows the same latency as when I type "ping" on Iccup. Which for me in Central US is 187, wonder where those servers are at if those are even the real pings for me.
Just curious anyone have a guide to connect to VS Server ^^? I did everything on installations for the Chinese software, but I can't seem to make my 1.13f version work. It seems I am missing some starcraft file which I didn't get from my iccup installation (I dont have the CD).
iccup works fine without cd but... -> Load VS: Prompts me to insert CD -> Don't have CD T_T (I think file is starcraft.mpq or some random variation)

op teamliquid :troll: you will see 1 person every few days... unless you have a skype group you probably will never find someone at a random time. Op teamliquid @ iccup tends to have 1 to 5 people :D
I have a question, does anyone know why in game lobby it spams something like " wDetector 1.17" , I assume it is saying I have the wrong version because I keep getting banned on Fish, but others told me I have the right version of wLauncher, and that wlauncher is ok to use on fish. Anyone know?

I'm usually in op iops- when I'm online.

Every day, 5am iirc Korean time the server goes down for updates / etc...

edit : thanks if u know ;]
I'm assuming you mean the spam that it says when refreshing? It usually means that you need an update (you can get latest version at www.wlauncher.com)
I'm having a problem getting Hangul to display while in game/lobby when using iCCup Launcher. It's mostly just invisible. When I use MiniLauncher, though, it works perfectly.
I have changed every setting in Region and Language (Windows 7) including: Format, Current/Default Location, Default Input Language, and System Locale (for non-Unicode programs).
So i finally broke down after trying to play even BGH on battle.net and installed the fish server. I followed ops rules and just tried to blend in, surprisingly a lot of people like to speak english >.> I played a few team games because I kept getting booted and just tried to join a game that would let me stay haha.
First game was a 2v2 and my partner called me a "weak player" because i said I wanted to MnM instead of mechanic. Oh well, we ended up losing anyways because he never had a standing army and went lurkers against wraith/tank and templar goon archon.
Second game was a bit more fun went for a 3v3 on BGH, PZZ(i was P) versus TTP. Both zergs 9 pooled while I teched to dark templars and speed zealots. I researched goon range too for AA just to be safe. Luckily they slowed down the protoss a lot and made 1 of the terrans invest in a lot of bunkers and so they were totally caught off guard when they moved to counter attack and were eaten alive by dark templars and zealots. Soon after we finished them off and I claimed my first team win on fish =D.
As for what I saw in the few games I played I noticed that people try to do cute tricks(pylon blocking 1 side of their mineral line against 9 pool for...some reason.) and that most people sit on 1 base for as long as possible. Hopefully once I get my 30 games in to play ranked 1v1 it'll be a bit harder because as it is now Im not exactly being pushed too hard and rather finding small amusements in watching players try to be cute.

Does it have to be 24 consecutive hours, or just 24 hours you accumulate over time? IIRC the server used to get taken down daily for maintenance, but if it's consecutive I'm assuming they don't do that anymore?
I have some questions. Once you have the Brain / Fish gateways you just create your account through their battle.net interface? Nothing need be done on their websites right? Also, how populated are the servers compared to ICCup nowadays? I have a hard time finding games on ICCup sometimes.
Question for every BWer that uses battlenet. I am contemplating on buying the battlechest to get back on battle net, is it worth it? I am not sure if it is because on iccup, the population seems pretty dead. Anyone that gives information on # of users usually online/active on battlenet would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone on this site!!

There's still a few ppl on asia and US west, the rest is dead as f***
Does anyone knows the difference between wlaucher and minilauncher ? Because I have a really hard time downloading mini and all the koreans (even on bnet asia) seem to use wlauncher anyway ? Does wlauncher comes bundled with some thrashware that you need to uncheck at installation like mini or is it clean ?

Hey guys I have the exact same problem here, I couldn't write korean in games (I was getting those ugly symbols) then I changed everything to korean and now everything I write is invisible:
I'm using wLauncher btw. This is strange because I had this working on my old PC, I did the same steps here and it just won't show korean letters in lobby and games.
I can't change my gateways. I've tried running registry files like the one in this thread, and I have tried the battle.net gateway editor, but nothing I do changes my gateways lists. Does any one have any ideas about what the reason could be?
In the past, editing my gateways was not a problem.
