Is it BM to say GG "for" your opponent, under any circumstances?
Example: You're playing ZvT, the game is clearly over but your Terran opponent is continuing to play anyway. You say GG. Was this BM?
I'm of the opinion that it's very BM. You should always allow your opponent to decide when he's ready to concede defeat. Saying GG for him is just like rubbing the defeat in his face for your own sick pleasure

I think sometimes my opponent deserves it, for instances, if he trys to pull some stupid cheese or some trick I think its newbish ill give him the ol' GG

Should have added an option of "Who cares"
I think the whole idea of "bad manner" is ridiculous, and getting mad because someone says GG before you do..I mean, seriously..grow up? :[

I totally agree with you. I refuse to say GG even if they have one last building left and I'm about to destroy it. If people take great pleasure in saying GG first and I do end up losing, I usually let them know that because of that I'm going to hide a bunch of buildings and go afk for awhile. True that's a jackass move on my part, but it's so sickening how rude many people are, I just can't help but hope it's a small step to fixing the problem.
EDIT: BTW it's not about caring about "GG" or getting angry, it's more about having good sportsmanship. It's one thing to say "GG" when the victory is clearly won, and leave it at that, but most people don't do that. They'll say GG long before the game is over, or if it is over, they'll add totally random and rude comments after until you leave. It's not that it's a big deal, it's just what entails a lot of the times is totally unnecessary on any level.

i hate when winner gg's first

Thanks for your input HovZ.

I posted something about this on WGTour forums. Most agreed that it is very bad manner. Too many WGTour members do it.
|
Very bm. I also do what Orlandu does, hide buildings and shit like that if it happens. Give what you get..
|
It's not BM at all, when, as you said, the game is clearly over, and your opponent is wasting your time. Especially if its a competitive game of some sort - you could be out and doing better things with yoru time than spending 10 minutes to break his mined out main with 10 tanks and 8 science vessels in it, using zerg when you have the entire map. When you can see that you're in the deepest, darkest ass and your opponent says GG for you, take it as a hint...
What is BM is not leaving after you quite obviously cease to stand a chance
|
I still disagree with you in that case, MPXMX.
The guy that did it to me was in op [cF] and he didn't just say gg, he said
gg : D
So I'm fairly confident he wasn't angry that I was "wasting his time" by not leaving.

Good manner:

It may be BM, but sometimes, I think I should be BM. Manner is seriously overrated when playing against newbs.

Some players like to swear at you and call you a newbie when they lose

Just as many do that when they win too.

Starcraft is a nice medium to let loose the pressures of the day. I go off on people for no reason, maybe because they cant do shit back. But.. unfortunately.. now a days better just keep my hands off the keyboard..

i say GG? if it's like last building and they havnt said anything.
|
When the game is not clearly over, it's BM. I've lost a one battle, and my opponent GG's me. I fight back for about 10 minutes, but it wasn't over by a long shot.
|
what if they say gg as the game looks like it's over but you make a major comeback and whoop him?
and manner should just be whether or not a person is a dick.
|
i **think** i did that at WCG
^-^||
hahaha.............

i usually say GG when i have a mass of hydras in a p's base and he hasnt left yet, or something similar i think its bm when people stay even after they have absolutely no chance to win, its almost a slap in the face because they think i suck enough that they could still win...
|

Well, I kinda agree with that too. It's bm both ways...there is absolutely no need to stay in a game when you've clearly lost. Still, I don't say 'gg' first if I'm winning but I can understand if some people get frustrated when they have 4 running bases and are killing their enemy's last... and the opponent STILL just sits there letting you take down every single building. So I think it depends on each game and can't really be generalized as bm or whatnot by default.
|
It's pretty much against sportsmanship, however I do think there should be another universal expression/abbreviation to end the game. Something like "thanks for the game" (tfg?). Typing "good game", when you lost a 5 minute game due to some cheesy strat is just plain wrong.
|
Someone told me I should quit sc, and have told me gg before it's over. I say it's bm and practice always makes perfect.

apparantly the korean word "sugo" means exactly that. correct me if i'm wrong, but thats what i say :D

I think sugo means good job.

unless your enemy did something that bm first, such as blatantly hacking or talkin lots of shit, i think its very bm to say gg as the winner.
i also think its sort of rude for the loser to not say "gg" and just leave the game. thats not too important though because it feels good to know that theyre so pissed they cant even say "gg".
|
very bad manner, but of course its also very bad manner to hide buildings when you're out of resources/expo and u have no units left.
|

i really do not agree, i don't think it's because you are on the internet that everyone should be allowed to shit on everyone else + this is maybe only a game but while you're chatting u are still talking to a human being even through the internet. And i think growing up is learning to respect people even when you are 10000000 miles away and you do not risk anything, you just respect ppl coz u think it's right.
And i could add that to the eyes of many, life can be considered as a game.
|
Usually saying GG for your opponent is bm, but some people just need that GG throw in theire face.
|
who cares about manner gg leave yo noob :pp

Generally bad manner. However, I have played games where my opponent has done something lame like lift off his last starport or factory, after all his other structures have been destroyed, and moved it to the corner just to prolong the game and irritate me. Under those circumstances I think it is fair to rub it in his face a little with an early gg.
|
|
i hate it when the winner gg's
|
Is asking "gg?", when my opponent looks dead, bm too?
|
I find it very BM, but the best feeling is when they say "GG newb" and you end up winning the game.
|
Well I think that saying "gg" (before your opponent have something like 3scv +5marines and tones of buildings) it's bm but seriously why you people just don't say anything and just kill it. Look at this point, what do you think will happen if on the starleague or any other tourney like that, winning opponent say "gg" before the enemy that will probably lose, what do you think, if he become a bm? Well probably ... + I am wondering what people watching this will say . -..-
|
Norway28665 Posts
there's nothing more satisfactory than winning after your opponent says gg. however, I feel it's acceptable to say gg before your opponent if it's like, he has a couple of buildings left which you are destroying, simply because I want to say gg before he leaves. if my opponent decides not to say gg at all, I will usually message him gg afterwards just to make him angry, as people who leave without saying gg tend to be somewhat annoyed.
and personally I regard "gg" more as a "thanks for playing" than a "good game".
|
id stand up and leave the room without quitting the game
I don't get annoyed or anything, it's just that I take pleasure in them wasting their time
|
ive never said GG before my opponent does and i get fairly annoyed when an opponent does to me. The last time someone said gg and told me to leave i purposefully prolonged the game as long as possible even though i was on the verge of giving up anyway
|
and from now on im going to adopt nazgul's method :O
|
I think typing in "/w wgtbot win" when you think you're winning is much more BM than saying "good game".
|
Yeah sure, if you feel the game is over just say "gg"

Poor guy >.< !

it depends entirely on the context of the situation. i bet the people that voted very bm have done it many times against people who they thought were 'rude' and if the other player is wasting your time when it is very very clearly over, then it is not bm. of course people should also realize that by saying gg first, you are not going to get him to quit so ya it depends
|
i dont think its bm
i got a question since were on bm topic...
ok i was in game playing and he killed my base and i said gg cause i had no units then i forgot i had some money made some goons killed the mutas make an expo and win the game was that bm?
|
if i win and opponent doesnt give up, he just wastes my time and he is BM, not me, so of course id say GG, and maybe even something more harsh, if he wont quit.
|
its obviously rude unless ur a dolt. whether or not you feel justified in being rude to people you are better than is another story
|
Usually, I admit defeat when all hope seems lost and I say "gg", but I usually don't say "gg" when my opponent says it first. I think it's rude =/
And I never say "gg" when im winning unless my opponent says "gg" first.
|
I think it's very BM. It's the loser's job to concede the game, period.
|

|
i hate that shit when they say gg. Especially midgame. Last time it happened he cannoned up my cliff and said "GG" like a fucking homo not realizing I had the island. I dropped all his expos (he figured he could just take the map)...dropped mad lurkers on his cliff and raped him....man that felt good.

so let me get this straight. you thought you were dead, but you forgot that you had a couple extra thousand minerals in your pocket? and so you used a surviving probe to warp in a pylon+nexus+cybernetics+1or more gates, and then you made a few goons immediately (all of this must have costed at least 1500 for 3-4 goons) and then you killed his mutas? the same mutas that destroyed your entire original base?

thats one of the best feelings i get on bnet. once some newbie zerg 4pool rushed me and said "gg" as soon as he got into my base. well i got a zeal out and microed the hell out of my probes and zeals. i lost a lot of shit, but after i survived i won easily.
the best feeling i ever had vs BMers: way back in the day, it was a 2v2 on BGH. I attacked one of the enemies and almost wiped him out. meanwhile, my ALLY started coming towards my base and hasnt been helping me the entire game, so I knew he was backstabbing me. So I unallied and immediately sent my first army to his base to kill him too. It basically was a 3v1... but really a 2v1 because I killed the first guys base pretty much. Took over an hour to play and I won. with all the shit talking and all, that was the single most crowning acheivement over BMers.
|
i think its very bm ... its the players who decide if they still want to contest, unless the guy hides pylons or some shit all over the map -_-"

While generally I would agree that it is extremely rude, I do feel that under some circumstances it's warranted (when opponent tries to rebuild a hidden base without realistic chance of a comeback, or when opponent makes you destroy all or most of his buildings after you've won beyond any serious speck of a doubt are good examples).
|

heh. I never blame people if they do that unintentionally, but it is kinda annoying. after somebody says "gg", I stop trying.. So it is pretty annoying if they keep playing and build up some hidden army, while I've stopped making units/expoing altogether. I guess it's not that bad if they didn't realize they weren't quite out yet, though.
|
I hate when people do that. Soooooo BM. And it's hilarious especially if you win. Then you get to be twice as BM :D
|
I think it should be programmed in bw that whenever you type "gg" + enter - you will auto quit your current game.

i killed the mutes i had some canons in the front (this was when i sucked) so instead of attacking after i killed the mutes he took map but in the end i came out winning +_+

it's kind of BM, because it's assuming you win, they might have something hidden or w/e, most people don't like it because they don't like being told they lost, they like to declare defeat themselves, and most expect a return gg as a sign of good sportsmanship
I can't say I've run into this problem though....I leave once a game looks like I'll have to try....screw trying....trying is the 1st step to failure.....who wants to fail?

if people say gg before the game is clearly over (which a lot of newbies on wgt etc tend to do) it motivates me to try even harder and can often end in a comeback from me.

ill only do it if they try something stupid like hiding buildings all over the place to try n make me leave. it usually works --;;

^ As if that's somehow any better in the manners department. Actually, saying GG and immediately leaving yourself seems like a nice and tactful way to gesture to your opponent that he's really ought to have gotten the fuck out and stopped wasting your time a good while ago.
